K8N Neo (MS-7030) problem with Gigabyte 6600

Hi,
I got a problem with my K8N Neo (MS-7030) and Gigabyte 6600 together.
I just tried to upgrade my system with the following components:
PNY 5700LE  128M -> Gigabyte 6600 256M (GV-N66256DP)
Onboard sound  ->  CreativeLab SB Audigy 2 ZS Gamer
Here is my order of installation:
1.  Win XP with SP2
2.  Chipset driver 5.10  (5.11 crashed during installation)
3.  ForceWare 81.98  (I tried 77.72 from Gigabyte as well)
The system went blank during (3) and never comes back.  In the last 3 days, I must repeated the above procedures over 20 times.  I tried combinations of diffierent version chipset driver with forceware, but still no luck.
Audigy2 was sitting in the middle PCI before.  However, I encounter a few system lockup during the first 10 trials, then I found a post say Audigy 2 should reside in the orange, or the one far away from AGP, PCI slot.  Things seems better after this change.
More detail about my system:
MB: K8N Neo (MS-7030) BIOS is the latest version, 1.9.
RAM: Corsair Value 2 x 512MB PC3200
PS: Antec 380W
Video: Gigabyte 6600 256M (GV-N66256DP)
Sound:  CreativeLab SB Audigy 2 ZS Gamer
Thanks
Alex

Hi,
My PSU is Antec True3808 (5V/35A 12V/18A 3.3V/28A)
I forgot to mention before.  The CPU is AMD Athlon 64 2800+.
Also, I had enough of installation for now.  I pulled the new 6600 and put the old 5700LE back in.  Now, I installed everything without a problem.
Could it be not compatible?  PSU issue?  Or something else?
Any suggestion?
I appreciate any help.
Alex

  • K8N Neo Platinum 7030 Problem

    I have a K8N Neo Platinum and as of the past week my computer has been acting really strange.  I has had random lockups that at first made me think it was the video card.  That wasn't the case.  I tried a different power supply and that didnt help.  So I decided to take everything out of my computer.  I had everything unplugged from the motherboard power, ide cables, etc.  I noticed as I was taking everything out that I felt like I was getting shocked by my case but I don't know how because I had no power supply in my computer and all the cards, processor, memory were taken out.  When I took the mb out i didn't feel the shock anymore, but when I put the mb back in the case and hooked the power supply back up to it I did.  I even vacuumed out the case totally removing all dust and dirt.  Am I missing something here?  HELP lol

    thanks for replying glenn after 2 days of hunting i can now say
    90% sure the whining is from the powersupply
    using my advanced hearing device i found a flaw in its design.  before i would put it near psu but not hear the whine from there. well it occured to me to tilt it ever so slightly (tip from radio broacasting in college) to let the noise in but block any wind from crossing the end of my tube. and ch ching finally from the rear of the psu is where it is loudest.
    ive owned 3 enermax and theyve been the best psu ive ever owned.  but this weekend im swap it with my other and see if it still happens. it will probably take 2 hours total do it which is why ive put it off this long. ive tried bumping the wires around even though its a full size chieftech with all my watercooling gear its almost impossible to not have the wires overlap each other at least a few times. but with the moving around i did do it didnt help.

  • Any one is using K8N Neo MS-7030 with 6600/6800 series with LCD monitor ?

    any one is using K8N Neo MS-7030 with 6600/6800 series with LCD monitor and his card is connected through the DVI cable without problems ?

    yup, no problems here! connected to a 19" AGNeovo F-419 TFT LCD, using DVI cable. nice picture!

  • BIOS 2.1 K8N Neo Platinum 7030

    What about the latest BIOS 2.1 K8N Neo Platinum (7030) ? Is it safe to upgrade or should i stay at 1.7 (that really works great) ?

    If 1.7 is working for you I'd suggest staying with it. (Always a good idea even if the new bios is stable).
    I had problems overclocking with V2.1 (the ide initialisation hangs) and many others have complained about problems with more than one stick of mem.

  • K8N Neo-MS-7030+3000 !No boot SPD

    Why won't this board boot with SPD timings on CorsairXL=(Low volt/tight SPD timings) ?
    Let alone boot over 225HTT--->K8N Neo-MS-7030+3000 !No >225+boot
    And there's more than one thread about this, but no solutions being brought forward.

    I dunno about you, but my BH5 will definitely not do 225MHz on 2-2-2-11 timings with the voltages available to this board. You need to isolate the memory from the CPU to determine which one is the culprit. Drop the RAM divider to "133MHz" (i.e. 3:2 ratio) and crank up the HTT (don't forget to change the HT multiplier to 3x). Now test your RAM buy lowering the CPU multiplier to 7x, setting RAM to "200MHz" (i.e. 1:1 ratio), and increase HTT.
    Oh and if you think your pissy attitude is gonna convince others to help you, think again. Maybe if you tried asking nicely instead of sounding like the world owes you a favour, you might've gotten more replies. Of course, now when you experience the same problem on your new Abit board, I'll expect you to show up at the Abit forums whining and bitching there as well, and just like here they'll ignore you because you can't be bothered to word your posts more carefully and more helpfully (like specifying what settings you've already tried). If you can't even spend the time to give everybody the necessary info, don't expect anyone to help you.
    Classic case of PEBKAC.

  • K8N Neo MS-7030 Vista drivers

    This is my first thread here, and I have a problem with my K8N Neo MS-7030 754 Mobo. I cant get my USB port to work at high speed, Vista won't let me use a Kingston 2GB USB for Readyboost, ( stick is optimized for Readyboost). Also cant use MSI mobo utilities, no driver found. Will there be updates for Vista driver for this board? Running AMD Athlon64 3700+, Nvidia 6800 agp, 2GB Corsair XMS DDR400, 400w Ultra PSU, LG DVD lightscribe, Lite On CD burner, seagate 80GB 7200 rpm HDD, floppy drive, Diamond 7.1 sound card, Vista Home Premium OS. New to system building, this is my first PC, trying to figure the driver issue out. Thanks.......By the way, does anyone know how I can get a MSI USB D-Bracket W/4 led read out, and the accessories for this mobo, like cables, CD, etc.

    You have to wait for drivers to get released, very few are.
    You're not the only one, many people complain about the same problems.
    I just bought this board (MSI K8N Neo V2.0 H (MS-7030) NF3-250 Socket 754 ATX Motherboard), and expect it from Fedex any minute. I'd heard (in a thread at Anandtech Forums, where I first heard about this board - http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=40&threadid=2019857&f that nVidia was not going to support Vista with this board, and I'd assumed that it was an across the board thing with nforce 3 boards, but I may have been wrong to make that assumption. So, seeing this thread has raised my eyebrows and now I am wondering if I do indeed have to give up the idea of upgrading to Vista with this motherboard. What is the truth here? Has nVidia recently declared their non-support, or did I dream that up?

    MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum Problem

    A lot of things could be wrong but it will be easier to figure out if we know what you did.  When you say you changed settings in Bios, do you remember your last settings and what you did?
    It might be helpful if you created a sig (as described in the forum rules) to show what you have in your system like my sig below. (Hint- use profile button in sign on screen.)
    Things could be broken even if there is no visible evidence (such as flames or melted component) of course.
    If I had to guess and your d-bracket reading is correct, corrupted bios requiring new bios chip, but let's not guess as a lot of things could be wrong and you don't want to invest in a new bios chip if the board cannot be brought back to life.  Consider removing parts and testing them in an other machine.  Start with CPU and memory?
    Good luck.

  • K8n Neo & 6800 GT Problem

    I've been getting waterfalls in the screen when I load windows. I also see artifacts in the bios setup menu. Sometimes the picture goes out completely and then a few seconds later it will come back on. The card fails completely under 3dmark 03. Everything in this machine is brand new. I've replaced the video card three times now and I still have the exact same problem. I've used a geforce 5700 with no problems. I've also been in contact with BFG and they said the problem is with the mainboard. Any ideas?

    I have same card and mine runs great with the exception of 3dmark2003 build340.
    Crashes to desktop everytime on me also. I upped my AGP voltage to 1.60 when I got the card and that stoped the game crashes I was getting sometimes.
    I see you have a 600watt Robanton, not sure how good of quality those are, but the 6800 GT along with amd64 sucks some power on the +12V rail.
     I would say RMA board if your power supply is up to the task and other video cards do the same thing.
    good luck

  • K8N Neo Platinum - Reboot problems

    This is very strange.......
    Just bare with me as I try to explain.
    I just orderd a new system to build from scratch and all seemed to go ok.
    I have:
    Motherboard: K8N Neo Platinum
    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 - 2800+
    VIDEO: ATI Radeon 9600XT - 128 MB
    RAM: 1GB DDR PC2700 CL2.5 - SAMSUNG - 1 Stick
    SOUND: I also have an old PCI sound card in there.
    HD: none connected currently
    CASE: XG Viper Gaming Case
    On my first boot everything seemed to go ok. I saw the post screen. The CPU, the Memory were all recognized the only thing is I don't have a HD in it right now so there was no OS to boot. I went into BIOS and double checked the settings. I noticed the RT clock was off slightly so I changed it. Looked around and made sure the AGP port was selected as my primary video adapter. Besides that I didn't change any other settings.
    When I saved the BIOS settings and the computer did an automatic reboot I got nothing except a repeating "BEEP" and a black screen.
    I waited a few seconds (around 20) then turned the computer on and it started up fine again. This time I didn't go into BIOS just let it boot up to the point where it said INVALID system disk. I did a reboot with the same problem - a repeating "BEEP" and a black screen.
    A warm reboot doesn't do anything - It only comes back up with a black screen and the repeating beeps. Also If I power down and up too quick I also get no other effect than the black screen and repeating beeps.
    The only way to get the post screen is to let it sit around 20 seconds and boot up.
    Even If I let it sit over night, boot it up, see the post, and reboot 2 seconds after I get the post screen, the black screen and the beeping occurs (so I am not too sure its a CPU heat issue).
    also on a side note the DBracket has some strange lights on it.  - IF I am looking at the Dbracket from the right orientation - I think it is giving a "Initalizing Keyboard Controller" error when I get the black screen. It is either that or the Video Interface error. - 3 RED LIGHTS and 1 GREEN LIGHT.
    Any sugestions or help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED !!!
    Thank you !!!!!!

    OK - I pulled out the 9600XT and put in a 9000 saphire radeon card with the same effects.....
    when I pull out the Video card and the memory I get the same black screen and error code of course...
    second - I put the memory in and left the video card out only and got a signle long beep.. then no additional beeps after that but of course no video...
    third - I put in the video card (the 9600 XT) and left the memory out and got the identical black screen and repeating long beeps.
    last - I put the memory back in.. booted up fine... then tried to reboot and I was back to the black screen with multiple long beeps..
    one interesting thing that I learned from this was - when there was no memory in I got the same "beeps" as I do when I try to reboot with the memory in... could it be something to do with the memory?.... or is it still leaning toward a PSU problem..
    (Unfortunatly I don't have access to another stick of memory right now,... nor a sufficient PSU for the system...)

  • K8N Neo 2 - Same problems after 3 motherboards!

    I'm having serious problems here...please help
    I bought the K8N Neo 2 and keep having the same problems over and over.  I'll build the computer and everything will be running fine, no problems with POST or anything.  It'll run great for a day or two then....I'll go to power it on the next day and it'll start up, then suddently turn off and won't boot up ever again.  This has happend 3 times with this board after I've returned and RMA'd the previous 2.
    But, today I found a work around.  What I did since it wasn't booting up was remove the power connector from the board, then hold the power button down and replug the power connector back in.  It then powers up fine, but I have to hit the power button again in order for it to boot.  If I turn the computer off it won't boot up normally again.  I can't imagine having to do this everytime to turn the damn thing on.
    Here are my specs:
    MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum
    Athlon 64 3000
    2 x 512 Corsair Value Select
    Antec True 380w  +5V 35a +12V 24a +3.3 28a
    XFX 6600GT
    NEC DVDR 2500A
    WD Raptor 74gig
    WD 80gig SE
    I can't think of what's causing the same problem over and over again.  This is by far the most frustrating motherboard I've ever worked with.  Am I screwed with the board that I have now, or should I return it again...
    Please help!

    Checking your P/S is always a good idea.  But I can tell you that the power on/off functions of the K8N Neo2 Platinum are whacked.  I just installed my new K8N Neo2 and the motherboard refuses to power down from either windows or the front power switch after it is turned on.  This is the first MSI m/b I've owned that exihibits this behavior.  Have done many custom builds for customers using MSI boards - clear back to the K7 series.  My normal install procedure is to install m/b, all drives, memory, video card and connect power.  Immediately after I power the system "on" and check for fan operation and d-bracket error codes.  If all comes out ok, I power the board down (via the front panel switch).  OOPs, guess what, couldn't do that on this new m/b.  I should have known it was a problem right then.  Instead, went ahead and installed XP Pro, problem persist even yet.  Press the front power switch or soft exit from Windows, Windows shuts down, but motherboard doesn't.  Fans, video card, even hard drives keep powered up

  • K8N Neo 2 Platinum Problem!When rising to 210fsb restarting,etc...

      I have a big problem which makes me angry...Actually there exist some problems,but I only write two of them...Firstly,when i try to overclock as rising fsb to only 210, system restarts and resarts again and again;only when I return to default value,system works.It is just a one example to show us that mobo does not work well.Secondly,about the temperature,there is a problem.System sometimes opens with 37degree,sometimes with 43 degree;sometimes rises to 55 and 62,sometimes stops at 47-48.These are not only from idle temperature but also load.Which makes me angry,temperature is 55 degree at idle;and sometimes at load it is 49 etc..I tried my CPU and fan,ram modules etc.,on MSI Neo 4 SLI mobo,and there didnot happen any problem,involving these two.So,I think they are not normal,what should I do?
    My system:AMD 64 939 3200+ CPU,MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum,MSI NX6800 VGA,2*512 ddr400 Hynix d43 ram,80GB Seagate SATA etc...

       I did it;that is to say i know that i have to lower HT and i did.In detail,ram timings were 3-4-4-6 and 1T.I disabled D.O.T,Spread spectrum,Agrassive timings,high performance mode was manuel  etc..So everything was suitable for o\c.Also I disabled Sata1-2,and connected to Sata 3 port.AGP frequency was 67,cool and quiet was disabled.HT was 4,I adjusted CPU ratio to *10 and I rised CPU frequency only to 210.So,everything was as which had to be,but system restarting again and again,works only if i return to 200 fsb...I am sure that the problem is arisng from mobo,because I tested my configuration on different systems.For example,I tried my CPU and ram modules on MSI K8N Neo 4 SLI mobo and there did not happen any problem,I was able to rich 2500mhz with HT4,250fsb*10.Temperature was accurate also.What can I do?If
    I cannot o\c my system it is unsense to have this configuration and this mobo.I think,if i bring my mobo to service of MSI,they will say it is not our problem,as you know they don't accept o\c problems.I also think that they have to explain something to me as their D.O.T. technology supposed to work at %11 o\c.Please,someone say something to me and give me an advice.

  • MSI k8n neo platinum post problem

    I just bought a 2nd hand K8N neo platinum and I can't get it to post, I have reduced down to 1 stick of ram(tried all slots) vga and cpu running out of case. I have an ultra 600 psu that certainly should be doing the buisness as everything was fine on an NF7S-V2 up until 1/2 hour prior.
    On the led device it's starting 4 red then after a couple of seconds it goes 1 red 2 red 3 green 4 red which I found relates to keyboard controller. I've tried with various keyboards but no joy. I get nothing on the screen at all but that's the next stage in post.
    My memory is Twinmos 3200 twin x 2 x 512 double sided, which I saw in the sticky can be troublesome.
    Any body got any ideas?

    i am having an almost identical problem.
    First the system wont go past post,then i realised it would but only boot if i had the USB mouse unplugged (i noticed the d-brackets lights changed after i unplugged the mouse)
    then i was able to get to windows, however i couldn't do much (mouse wouldnt detect if replugged, keyboard not detected - all lights off)
    So i tried clearing the CMOS
    now i am having the same problem, except this time i get CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded
    then it tells me to press f1 to continue to del to enter setup, which i cant do since the keyboard wont work. so now im totally bamboozled
    I've tried changing the PSU as well with no luck (both were 500watts)
    Funny thing is, the pc having the problem is identical to the pc im writing on now, presonally i think the motherboard is not v good, since alot of people have this problem or similar to it. (and yes im using the keyboard and mouse now, that i tested on the other pc)
    SPECS:

    500watt Magna Dual Fans
    Will check what the D-bracket says and will report back.
    ok here goes:
    (with usb mouse plugged in)
    1= green
    2= red
    3=red
    4=green
    (without usb mouse plugged in) - but bare in mind i cant press f1 (no keyboard) to continue else i would probably be able to get to windows.
    1= green
    2= green
    3=green
    4=red
