K8N Neo Platinium Packaging

MS-7030-10
MS-7030-20
MS-7030-22 ???
What is the different?

i havent had a chance to look this up, but i would assume each of those serial numbers is for
K8n neo
K8n neo FSR
k8n Neo Platinum
each of these has different onboard devices present
standard k8n will have the bare essentials
FSR will have sata and onboard sound
Platinum has sata + firewire and maybe other stuff too
i just noticed they are making this board in micro-ATX format O.O
that maybe one of the other serials
hope this helps

There is a problem with, she is restores sounds of Windows as well as the reading of the MP3 well.
But if one connects the exit of a map TV on the entrance Line In, the sound is play only on the exit Line Out, end not on the Optic exit.
On my old mother board Abit NF7S the sound play correctly on the Optic exit.
Of that someone to this problem.

Yeah, just doesn't like the 16M cache drive

Before when I had just one memory chip(512mb in slot 1), I had no problem to run 235Mhz x10. All I had to do was the following :
    Put hdd in SATA 4
    Set AGP to 68Mhz
    Adjust cpu voltage from 1.45 - 1.55v
Set mem. clock to 166Mhz (sense it will increase as you raise the FSB)
Now I`ve bought one more identic memory chip. I have now 2x512MB memory placed in slot 1 and 3.
I followed the same steps as above, but with terrible results. Max 215Mhz x10 stable.
I`m pretty sure it`s not the memory chips that`s the problem, as they run stable
with original settings ( witch is higher speeds (200Mhz) than those I run on the memory when overclocking (166 - 195Mhz).
I would be greatfull for any tips or solutions that you might think would help me (and others) to reach better o/c results.

try slots 1+2 instead of 3, i have found that i can't oc very well in 1+3 either.

  • Can't get my K8n Neo Platinium to boot, fast help plz!

    Hi!
I just put all my new parts in my chassi and tryed to boot it but all i get the second i press the power button is a continued beep, not from the pc-speaker. And the cpu-fan wont start spinning!
It may be a dumb question but is'nt the cpu fan supposed to go in the C-fan connector on the board? Or have i got that all wrong?
I guess that's the problem, the cpu-fan not spinning.

yes Basic Troubleshooting Guide -- Volume 1 = Assign Resources to all ISA.
I think it might be worth reseting Cmos
When you clear cmos (userdata) you must enter the changes you done in bios over again.(Step 9)
the bios version is the same , it's in protected nvram .
Cmos of the bios chip is user data which you alter in bios + DMI a database of attached components, this can get corrupted.
When you reset cmos , default data stored in nvram is unpacked and
put all over again in the cmos area with MSIs default settings.
    Syar2003  29/12/04 23:27
    How to clear the CMOS
    1) disconnect the power cable.
    2) push the power button to drain the capacitors
    3) Move the CMOS jumper JBAT to the clear position, from it's original 1-2 position to 2-3 (it's between the Battery & Bios Chip see Manual.
    4) Wait a minute to be sure the CMOS has been cleared. Take your Time
    5) Return the CMOS jumper to it's original position 1-2
    6) Plug in power cable.
    7)restart computer
    8) enter bios and select load optimized Bios defaults - save & exit
    9) let pc reboot, if you have any settings you want changing do them now.
    like Enable Sata etc.,
see how far through you get now Again just with 1 module.

  • K8n Neo and MBM, show insane temperatures.

    Hello,
I have a MSI k8n Neo Platinium with a AMD Athlon 64 3000+, now it's run at 2350 Mhz with the inbox cooler.
The MSI Core center, shows 54ºC at MSI Core center, and a similar temperature in BIOS. (  Burning with Prime95 10 hours )
But if I execute the MBM program, shows 108ºC in "CPU"
The config of MBM (version of MBM is 5.3.7.0):
    Case: WinBond 1
    CPU: WinBond 2
    Sensor3: Winbond 3 ( Shows temps betwen 20-26 )
¿ Who is the problem ?
The CPU run's perfecty stable and the heatsink don't burn if touch it, at the MSI Core center an Bios  the temperature it's the same. When I execute MBM at moment MSI Core Center shows the same temperature of MBM, 108ºC.

It's probably a version of the bios, that's reporting the temps wrong. Update it, to the official one 1.3? Or the various beta bios's that are floating around. I'm currently using bios version 1.47(beta). At idle state, i'm at around 36c using AMD's stock heatsink.

  • K8N NEO Platinum + sapphire r9800pro

I've been experiencing some strange stuttering in games with my R9800pro. I've asked and chatted with many people with no luck. Some have suggested buying new Psu, i've read somewhere disabling fast writes might do the trick...
The stuttering itself happens in 3d games. When i scroll the screen laterally or vertically it moves a bit, then sort of stops for about half second then moves again and so on...I'm currently running my cpu at 2420mhz with 220fsb. Also my R9800 was flashed to xt but i flashed it back to r9800pro in hope of getting rid of that stuttering. Obviously yeah i've OC'd it but i've also tried it with default clocks. Same goes for the cpu, i've tried it with Stock clocks. My current PSU is a piece of , i'm well aware of that. It's Q-tec 450W. I'm just yet not convienced enough to go and change the psu, because i'm afraid that if the problem still occurs i'll sort of lose more money on the comp. (already spent almost 1000€ in the past few months) I know that by buying new psu i still would benefit from it even if the stuttering would continue..But i'm just after a solid working gaming machine and so far it hasn't been like that. I'm even considering selling the A64 mobo + cpu + r9800pro and switch to Intel and Nvidia, sounds stupid yeah....
    Any help would be apreciated...
    EDIT: tha damn specs
    A64 3200+ @ 2420mhz (Zalman 7000Cu something, most expensive i found from that series)
MSI K8N NEO Platinium Edition (Nforce 3 250gb)
    2x512mb Kingston valueram cas 2.5 400mhz ddr @ 220fsb
R9800pro (def clocks now, been flashed to xt (440/385) Vga silencer)
    Western Caviar 80gb
    Nec 2510 DVD burner
    few fans
    disk drive
    few NICs
    PSU is Q-tec 450w crap

Have you tested all the other parts of your system?
Have you ran MemTest to ensure the RAM is ok?
Have you ran Prime95 to ensure the CPU (and RAM) are ok?
Have you tried the 9800 in another machine to ensure that it is ok?
Is your system clean, have you used adaware or similar programs, have you updated and ran your Anti-Virus?
There are so many variables to eliminate in your search, unfortunately as with most problems it is unlikely there will be a quick fix. Unless someone who has had a similar experience posts. I assume you've searched the forums.
With regard to the PSU (or lack of...) If I were you I would consider an upgrade.
Is it not pssible for you to borrow a PSU, say from a friend, and try that?
If not try 'bareboning' your system and seeing if that helps. CPU, Mobo, Ram (1 stick) 1 HDD (IDE if poss) and the GFX.
The consencus of opinion, and it's backed up by MSI, is that these boards with the A64's need a good 20A+ on the 12V rail. I doubt the Qtec gets that.
    Good luck.

  • K8N Neo 2 Platinium can't detect PCI devices

    Hi
I have just bourght a K8N Neo 2 Platinium with Wireless LAN. I installed windows on it with on problems. My problem is that i have a Tv-tuner, and the wireless LAN adapter that's included in the bundle, installed in 2 of the PCI slots. Neither of the I/O devices gets detected. I've tried to update bios, changing slots, reconfiguring bios, nothing help. Also one of the 2 onboard NIC's Is'nt found in windows like my 2 I/O devices.
    What can my problem be?

not really the same problem Im afraid.
I believe our problem is with the PCI slot(s) and nothing to do with usb.
I managed to get the NVIDIA network adapter working... turns out just to be an option in intergrated peripherals was turned off...
However this doesnt really help me, I wont be using the onboard network anyway, I need to use the pci fibre card.

    2. Press "Delete" and go to BIOS setup while computer bootup.
Check BIOS advanced features and see if BIOS flash write control is enabled
(This option must be enabled. If you can not find this setting, it means the BIOS can be
    flashed.)
    3. Boot from MS-DOS boot diskette and get a:\> prompt.
    4. Type "", then press ENTER
    5. The flash program will then ask "Do you want to save BIOS?", please press "N" for no. The when you see Press 'Y' to program or 'N' to Exit, please press "Y" to continue.
    6. After flashing complete, remove floppy and reset the system .
    7. Press DELETE or F1 when prompted at first reboot after flashing.
    8. Load BIOS optimized defaults, then save settings and exits.
    Drivers & Needed Files:
(Note: All these drivers are for Windows XP.)
Leaked Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 4.40
(Please use at your own risk, these are LEAKED drivers. Password for the .zip file is "ocworkbench rules". Also, you will need to rename the WinXP_2K folder in IDE to either WinXP or Win2K else the installer doesn't pick it up.) Thanks for the link Wonkanoby!
*NEW* Leaked Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 5.03
More leaked drivers? Seems some parts of the drivers are older and some are newer.
    1. Windows XP Service Pack 1A (Web Install) -or- Windows XP Service Pack 1A (Full Install)
    2. Microsoft DirectX 9.0b (Web Install) -or- Microsoft DirectX 9.0b (Full Install)
    3. Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 4.24
    4. AMD Athlon 64 Processor Driver Version 1.1.0.14
    5. Nvidia Video Card Driver Version 56.72 -or- Omega Nvidia Video Card Driver Version v1.5303
(The Omega drivers are third party drivers optimized for gaming, most prefer these over the standard Nvidia drivers.)
    5. ATI Video Card Driver Version 4.7 -or- Omega ATI Video Card Driver Version 2.5.51
(The Omega drivers are third party drivers optimized for gaming, most prefer these over the standard ATI drivers.)
    6. Onboard Sound Driver (Realtek AC'97 Audio Codec) Version A3.61
It is HIGHLY reccomended that you install the drivers/needed files in the order listed above. Please note that there are two #5's because you either install one or the other depending on your video card, do not install both of them.
You will come across a problem here though. You can't install the chipset drivers without installing the Windows service pack and DirectX first, but the Windows service pack and DirectX installs need the internet to download files and you won't have working internet until you install the chipset drivers. Here's what I did to get around this. Instead of downloading the web install versions of Windows service pack and DirectX, download the full version and and put them along with all the other drivers on a backup hard drive or burn them to a CD, this way you will have all the drivers you need when it's time to install them and none of them will require the internet to download files.
Another note when installing drivers. Apparently the Nvidia chipset drivers also come with drivers for the onboard sound, but people seem to agree that the Realtek onboard sound drivers are better. When you are installing the Nvidia chipset drivers, just be sure to uncheck the box for sound drivers when it asks you which drivers you would like to install. Now you can safely install the Realtek drivers without any chance of conflicting sound drivers. Thanks for the tip Wonkanoby!

oh.  IIRC the installer just says USB 2.0 will be fully functional after SP1 is installed.  So after you install SP1 you go into device manager and u click update driver and it will auto search and update the driver.
Simplicity-wise, i guess its pretty much equal.  It might take less preparation to just copy DX9 full onto a CD and install that first, then nforce driver, then right away you have yoru internet connection.
but i dunno.. i guess i will try it your way this time when my RMA"d board comes.
i will be fomratting and doing a fresh install later on today and will let you know if i come across any problems

  • New Windows XP 64bit, but no drivers for K8N Neo Platinum

    Hello,
I have a MSI K8N Neo Platinum with an AMD 2800+. Just received the new Windows XP 64bit edition after attending a trade show in Houston. Used Partition Magic to make a separate partition on my SATA 400GB HD, knowing there was possibly going to be a problem. This is the final release, retail packaged, not the Beta.
The only drivers found was for my MSI Nvidia 5600 AGp video card. No other audio, Nvidia chipset or board drivers are plug & play. Onboard LAN isn't even found.
Any drivers out yet? I figure i'll have to wait. Can't get updates either bacause it won't detect onboard LAN or a Linksys or 3Com PCI card I tried also.
    Woodrow

There most certainly are nVidia drivers.  The only thing that there aren't drivers for currently is the onboard sound.  This, combined with lack of driver support for my peripherals (webcam and printer) are why I haven't made the switch.

  • MSI K8N Neo Platinum - CPU Cooler?

Hi there, this is my first post to the forum and hope that someone can help
Bascially I've just purchased a MSI K8N Neo Platinum mobo to use with an AMD 64 2800.
I'm wondering if I should use the stock CPU cooler or look to purchasing a cooler such as a Zalman? I want to keep the computer as quiet as possible.
I've recently read that it would be better to use the Cool and Quiet option with the stock CPU cooler instead?

    Chris,
If you don't mind a used one, there are probably about a hundred thousand available ones from people in these forums who has upgraded their heatsinks, and that's about everyone
The problem is, we dont want to give them up. We bought the retail package with fan not because of the free heatsink/fan, but because of the 3 year warranty that you only get with said combo.  To invoke the warranty, we'd have to return everything, including the heatsink/fan, so we hang on to it and let it collect dust.
So, for an aftermarket fan. If you don't plan to overclock, ever, the thermaltake silent boost K8 will do, although it is nowhere NEAR the 21dB that tt claims. They are known for shall we say, exaggerated claims. But it's certainly quieter than the stock HSF, and it's available everywhere.
Note that the "silent boost k8" is different from the "silent boost". The latter is for socket 462 I think.
