that's it. it posts ok, has frozen there once tho. but every time since then post is ok.  Installed WinXP fine - until the install process tried to reboot into WinXP proper - where it continually reset itself until eventually it got in - and reported it had rescued itself from a serious error - I can sit in windows seemingly indefinitely - using the hard-drive to browse through the windows installation.  now the problem is when I instert a disc into the dvd drive the computer tries to read it - little disc icon on the arrow etc. then it hangs and the computer resets....  any ideas??  the computer shop I got the PSU from says my configuration is "categorically" not using 550W of power -  what do you guys think?
    thanks for any help, cheers

    mobo drivers -> SP2 -> graphics card -> Dx9
    Wrong order s/be
    Sp2 (includes Dx9)
    Mobo Drivers
    graphics card
Dx9 needs to be installed prior to the mobo drivers.
This applies to the Gart (Agp Controller)
If you haven't done so downloadWindows XP - Unified Driver Version: 5.10 & install.
Device Manager System Devices note the AGP Host to PCI Bridge Device this is the Gart driver
you should see a diff in graphics performance

  • K8N Neo Platinum driver installation

There are 4 downloadable mainboard driver zips at MSI for K8N Neo Platinum (not including BIOS a upgrade) -
    1. NVSA020.zip - SATA controller drivers
    2. NF3_CK8S.zip - Chipset drivers including:
    Ethernet NRM driver
    Network management tools
    GART driver
SMBus driver with updated uninstaller files
*Win2K IDE 2.6 driver with updated uninstaller files
*WinXP IDE 2.6 driver with updated uninstaller files
    3. USB2W9XME009.zip - USB 2.0 drivers
    4. ALC69.zip - onboard Realtek audio drivers
    *applicable version of Win OS
Are ALL these drivers from MSI to be loaded?
I think I read in some other posts where some of these drivers (?) cause problems and therefore default Win OS (or chipset manufacturer) drivers should be used instead. Is there a concensus (or list) of which drivers should or shouldn't be installed and the correct procedures and order for doing it?

    1. NVSA020.zip, these drivers come in a diskete with your mainboard as well but possibly on an earlier version. You will need these if you plan to use a SATA Raid/ or simply a SATA drive when installing your OS of choice. Please note that if you plan to use a single SATA drive use SATA 3 or 4. In this case the drivers are not necessary but rather optional.
    2. These are the nforce platform drivers. You can either use the ones off the msi site or the ones from nvidia's site. In any case i would suggest you replace the IDE driver package with the 2.5's -> http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_ide_4.15_win2KXP.html
    3. if you plan updating to a sp 1 or 2 versionof xp, you will probably not need these.
    4. ALC69.zip - > Here is the latest realtek drivers.

  • MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition PROBLEM

Hi (my english is not good sorry for that)
I just got my new computer:
    MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition
    AMD Athlon64 3200+
    Western Digital Caviar 160Gb
    PNY Verto GeForce 6800Ultra 256Mb
    1GB Value Select pc3200
    Levicom 500W
The Problem is that when i start the computer, it boot and die directly no bootscreen what so ever, it boot and die.  i dont know what to do plz help me

Make sure you have Both the ATX Wires on.. theres the Big one! (21Pins i think).. and the Small 4Pin Connector both need to be connected.. if you havent done so yet.. Another thing you could do is Take everything out and place it on a cardboard or something appropriate for the mobo.... I think your motherboard is shorting?.. if it's touching your case.. I had somewhat the same issue long time ago.. give it a try..if you want hope it helps..

  • K8N Neo Platinum - Reboot problems

    This is very strange.......
Just bare with me as I try to explain.
I just orderd a new system to build from scratch and all seemed to go ok.
    I have:
    Motherboard: K8N Neo Platinum
    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 - 2800+
    VIDEO: ATI Radeon 9600XT - 128 MB
    RAM: 1GB DDR PC2700 CL2.5 - SAMSUNG - 1 Stick
SOUND: I also have an old PCI sound card in there.
    HD: none connected currently
    CASE: XG Viper Gaming Case
On my first boot everything seemed to go ok. I saw the post screen. The CPU, the Memory were all recognized the only thing is I don't have a HD in it right now so there was no OS to boot. I went into BIOS and double checked the settings. I noticed the RT clock was off slightly so I changed it. Looked around and made sure the AGP port was selected as my primary video adapter. Besides that I didn't change any other settings.
When I saved the BIOS settings and the computer did an automatic reboot I got nothing except a repeating "BEEP" and a black screen.
I waited a few seconds (around 20) then turned the computer on and it started up fine again. This time I didn't go into BIOS just let it boot up to the point where it said INVALID system disk. I did a reboot with the same problem - a repeating "BEEP" and a black screen.
A warm reboot doesn't do anything - It only comes back up with a black screen and the repeating beeps. Also If I power down and up too quick I also get no other effect than the black screen and repeating beeps.
The only way to get the post screen is to let it sit around 20 seconds and boot up.
Even If I let it sit over night, boot it up, see the post, and reboot 2 seconds after I get the post screen, the black screen and the beeping occurs (so I am not too sure its a CPU heat issue).
also on a side note the DBracket has some strange lights on it.  - IF I am looking at the Dbracket from the right orientation - I think it is giving a "Initalizing Keyboard Controller" error when I get the black screen. It is either that or the Video Interface error. - 3 RED LIGHTS and 1 GREEN LIGHT.
Any sugestions or help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED !!!
    Thank you !!!!!!

OK - I pulled out the 9600XT and put in a 9000 saphire radeon card with the same effects.....
when I pull out the Video card and the memory I get the same black screen and error code of course...
second - I put the memory in and left the video card out only and got a signle long beep.. then no additional beeps after that but of course no video...
third - I put in the video card (the 9600 XT) and left the memory out and got the identical black screen and repeating long beeps.
last - I put the memory back in.. booted up fine... then tried to reboot and I was back to the black screen with multiple long beeps..
one interesting thing that I learned from this was - when there was no memory in I got the same "beeps" as I do when I try to reboot with the memory in... could it be something to do with the memory?.... or is it still leaning toward a PSU problem..
(Unfortunatly I don't have access to another stick of memory right now,... nor a sufficient PSU for the system...)
    HELP !!!!

  • MSI k8n neo platinum post problem

I just bought a 2nd hand K8N neo platinum and I can't get it to post, I have reduced down to 1 stick of ram(tried all slots) vga and cpu running out of case. I have an ultra 600 psu that certainly should be doing the buisness as everything was fine on an NF7S-V2 up until 1/2 hour prior.
On the led device it's starting 4 red then after a couple of seconds it goes 1 red 2 red 3 green 4 red which I found relates to keyboard controller. I've tried with various keyboards but no joy. I get nothing on the screen at all but that's the next stage in post.
My memory is Twinmos 3200 twin x 2 x 512 double sided, which I saw in the sticky can be troublesome.
    Any body got any ideas?

i am having an almost identical problem.
First the system wont go past post, then i realised it would but only boot if i had the USB mouse unplugged (i noticed the d-brackets lights changed after i unplugged the mouse)
then i was able to get to windows, however i couldn't do much (mouse wouldnt detect if replugged, keyboard not detected - all lights off)
So i tried clearing the CMOS
now i am having the same problem, except this time i get CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded
then it tells me to press f1 to continue to del to enter setup, which i cant do since the keyboard wont work. so now im totally bamboozled
I've tried changing the PSU as well with no luck (both were 500watts)
Funny thing is, the pc having the problem is identical to the pc im writing on now, presonally i think the motherboard is not v good, since alot of people have this problem or similar to it. (and yes im using the keyboard and mouse now, that i tested on the other pc)
    SPECS:
    MSI k8N Neo Platinum
    Powercolor Radeon 9800 Pro
    AMD 64 3000+
    1GB Geil Memory
    Maxtor 160GB
    500watt Magna Dual Fans
Will check what the D-bracket says and will report back.
    ok here goes:
    (with usb mouse plugged in)
    1= green
    2= red
    3=red
    4=green
(without usb mouse plugged in) - but bare in mind i cant press f1 (no keyboard) to continue else i would probably be able to get to windows.
    1= green
    2= green
    3=green
    4=red

  • K8n neo platinum boot problem

    hi all
first of all sorry about my bad english...
    my pc specs
    A64 2800+ newcastle with Tt Polo735
    k8n neo platinum
    Noganet 350W (+5v=35a // +12v=15a // -12v=1a // -5v=0.5a )
    2x Wd30gb

    256mb kingston pc2700
    256mb xerox pc2700
well, yesterday i changed my amd box cooler and put the polo735.. everything was fine.. when i turn on the computer..dont boot and only a single bip every 4 or 5 secs..
i tryed everything, another mems, another vid card... i started my pc with only mems, vid and heatsink and nothing...only the beps
i put my cpu on another pc and works fine.. and put another cpu on mi mother and the same problem..
    i clear cmos and nothing
i change the psu for a generic 520w and nothing
    plz HElp
    cyas
EDIT: DBRACKET led 1, 2, 4 in red // led 3 in green

Sounds like bad/not levered pressure from the new heatsink to the cpu HS .
Make sure it correct aligned and the right way and has the correct pressure
to the cpus heatspreader . Also make sure motherboard can read the fans rpm .
    [edit:]
btw i agree with bas , your current psu is weak .
The polo fan also is a very watt hungry fan compared to boxed .

  • K8N Neo Platinum Weird Problem

Hi.I just got the motherboard yesterday. The spec is:
    Athlon 64 3200+
    K8N Neo Platinum
    512MB Crucial DDR 266
    Enermax 350Watt PSU
Now my problem is an odd one. I start up my PC, and everything is fine, XP boots etc. However. when I turn the computer off, the power light will have a flash at the front, the light stays solid for a few seconds, disappears, and comes back on. In this state, when the power switch is pressed, the computer does not come on and the light continutes to blink. The only option is to turn off the PSU, wait a minute, then turn the PSU back on and the PC will be fine. When I restart from windows (Start--> Restart), everything works fine.
I am using the latest BIOS, I was thinking that it maybe something to do with Power Saving, is there a way to totally disable it?
Thanks for your help, it's REALLY annoying me.
P.S. Are USB keyboards meant to work with the latest BIOS? Mine doesnt seem to want to.

    hi edjam,
    welcome to forum.
    1) Quote
that it maybe something to do with Power Saving
    your right it does
1-1)1st look at control panel - Power Options - Advanced tab - Power buttons at bottom.  check what set there.
1-2) When your computer does this try keeping the powerr switch pressed in for a time 4-5 seconds see if this makes any difference.
1-3) Check in bios - Power Management - Power button - that it is set to power off
    2)Quote
USB keyboards meant to work with the latest BIOS?
    I believe so
Enter Bios & check in onboard Device USB Mouse Support is enabled

  • K8N Neo Platinum 7030 Problem

I have a K8N Neo Platinum and as of the past week my computer has been acting really strange.  I has had random lockups that at first made me think it was the video card.  That wasn't the case.  I tried a different power supply and that didnt help.  So I decided to take everything out of my computer.  I had everything unplugged from the motherboard power, ide cables, etc.  I noticed as I was taking everything out that I felt like I was getting shocked by my case but I don't know how because I had no power supply in my computer and all the cards, processor, memory were taken out.  When I took the mb out i didn't feel the shock anymore, but when I put the mb back in the case and hooked the power supply back up to it I did.  I even vacuumed out the case totally removing all dust and dirt.  Am I missing something here?  HELP lol

thanks for replying glenn after 2 days of hunting i can now say
90% sure the whining is from the powersupply
using my advanced hearing device i found a flaw in its design.  before i would put it near psu but not hear the whine from there. well it occured to me to tilt it ever so slightly (tip from radio broacasting in college) to let the noise in but block any wind from crossing the end of my tube. and ch ching finally from the rear of the psu is where it is loudest.
ive owned 3 enermax and theyve been the best psu ive ever owned.  but this weekend im swap it with my other and see if it still happens. it will probably take 2 hours total do it which is why ive put it off this long. ive tried bumping the wires around even though its a full size chieftech with all my watercooling gear its almost impossible to not have the wires overlap each other at least a few times. but with the moving around i did do it didnt help.

  • K8N Neo Platinum DMA problem

I uprgraded my old PIII with the following system:
    AMD 2800+ (Sempron)
    MSI K8N Neo nforce3
    512MB Kingston DDR400
Windows 2000 SP4 (with default windows IDE drivers)
WD 80JB  (connected with an ATA100 round cable)
    LG 4163B (DVD-RW)  (ATA33 cable)
I did a clean install of windows but the default value for the the DVD-Writer was PIO mode. I put that drive on DMA mode though the control panel.
Now everytime i try to copy files from the DVD-Writer to the hard disk the system locks and i have to reset. When i switch back to PIO the drive works fine but very slow of course.
The BIOS dma settings are all set to auto... there are only 2 options i think - auto and disable.
What could be the problem here?

Quote from: klickitatdave on 11-October-05, 03:51:15
Did you mean ATA 133 rather than ATA 33?  If you are using an ATA 33 cable that could be a major problem.  Also, what is your setup, do you have your optical drive on the same IDE channel as your hdd or on a separate one? Do you have the latest firmware installed on the optical?  Also, I have found that my K8N nforce 3 Platinum board is very sensitive to IDE cables, (cable that worked and continue to work in my other system will not work in the MSI for some reason).  Just some thoughts.
Yes it's an ATA33 cable from my old PC, since the motherboard only had one IDE cable included.
I have the DVD-Writer as secondary master (with latest firmaware) all alone in the IDE channel and the hard drive is on the primary master.
I'll buy a new cable and try it out. Lets hope that's the problem.

  • K8N Neo Platinum Audio Problem

My motherboards is connected to my home audio receiver via optical audio cable, and only sends the front left and right channels when using the ac97 codec.  How do I set the spdif connection to send all signals in a 5.1 surround system.
Also to note there is nothing wrong with the connection because videos using the ac3 codec use full dolby digital and all signals work.
Also the other channels work fine using ac97 when I attach speakers to the rear speaker analog port on the motherboard, so that channel exists.
    Please help, much appreciated.

I didn't even know there was a way to turn off decoding to get a passthrough.  I've found that there is a lack of options that make a difference when I need them.  I don't think it's necessarily a driver problem, because I can watch movies just fine off my hard drive in 5.1 providing they support the ac3 filter.  I emailed msi and they said:
"You will need to install an AC3 Decoder in order to process and SPDIF output
    to the receiver."
Problem is that I couldn't find an interactive decoder that would process multichannel output in a game.  I emailed realtek as well to get their take on it, and they said:
    "I'm sorry !!
The AC'97 Audio codec didn't support AC-3 Encoder for SPDIF-Out .  You can try to play sound with PowerDVD or WinDVD"
So I have no idea what to do.  It's starting to look to me that we're getting ripped off here.  My problem is that I don't own any speaker systems other than my surround sound, which I cannot connect through analog, so I guess I'm gonna be deprived or digital surround in my games.  Unless I buy an audigy 2 zs platinum which costs a fortune, and that might not even support multichannel spdif output.
If anyone finds a way around this, I'm sure it would help me and a lot of users.

  • K8N Neo Platinum & Firewire Problem

    dear forum,
I just changend from a siemens D1607 to Neo K8N and I'm very happy with it,
however I habe problems with the firewire device.
It is enabled in the bios and it is recognized by win xp (it is show in the device manager (1394)..),
but when I plug in my terratec aureon firewire soundsystem (I have installed that drivers before..) nothing happens.
I tried with and without sp2, I have installed xp again..i don't know what do to now!
    some other facts:
    - I use the msi nforce driver package which was with mainboard.
    - the soundsystem worked well with the D1607 and my notebook.
    some ideas??
thanks very much for your help!!!

I can use just one firewire connector.
there was no additionally firewire bracket (only usb2..) with the mainboard, so I don't use the other connectors on the mainboard.
In the device manager I find the via firewire device+the 1394 network device, but no audio device.
yes, the audio system works fine. before I started with neo k8n I had used it sucessfully in my siemens-fuijutsu D1607 mobo.
I think I will buy a pci firewire card and see how it goes...:(
    thanks for your reply!

  • K8N Neo Platinum IDE problem

I got everything installed just fine and all is well booting into windows. I then install all the chipset drivers on the cd and reboot. The next time I put a cd in my rom to install a program it takes forever for it to read the cd and also windows gets really slow. I spent a while trying to figure out what was wrong and finally reinstalled windows again. And again same thing, as soon as I install the chipset drivers my Rom goes wack and windows is super slow. So I uninstalled the IDE drivers that the disk installed and let windows install its own drivers and WAAA LAAA problem solved. By the way I use a sata hard drive and the only thing on the ide is my dvd burner. Thats the only optical drive I have. Anybody else have this problem? I even tryed the new 5.10 drivers and same thing.

I've had ide problems with the nforce ide drivers.  The windows set always has worked for me.  I had to try a few different versions and ended up having version 5.10.2600.412 work for me.
If you are deadset on nforce drivers then that may help if you try other versions but if not the windows drivers seems to not have any problems.

  • K8N Neo Platinum multiple problems...

I have been battling for two days now with my new s754 Sempron and Neo Plat.
After a nightmare Win XP  installing session, I finally got things to run somewhat decently and started update XP and the drivers for my devices. Then somewhere around 3 a.m. I had the  1000. crash for the night, and desided to call it in. Up to then I had had the onboard sound, usb and Core Center working fine. Allthough not all of the USB ports worked all the time...
Anyhow, next morning I fired the power on and after loading to windows I found out that my USB mouse did not work anymore, nor did my USB connected printer have any connection.
Core Center would pop on regulary showing CPU/NB temperatures of 99C! only to change to -123C!?!! the next second and only briefly sowing the "right" sounding temps of 35-45 deg. C. I did try updating the bios to 1.4, but this did not change anything. More over if I try to monitor the temperatures from the bios the comp totally freezes as soon as first abnormal reading sohws up.
Allso the onboard sound device seems to have dissapeared completely. Windows just states there are no existing sound devices present, and I have had no luck getting it to detect it back. Reinstalling the RA'97 drivers have no effect.
Finally the floppydisk seems to be working, but windows claims that every disk I've tried are unformatted.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling just about every possible driver, most importantly Win XP SP1, nForce drivers and audio drivers.
Now I can live with the abnormal temp readings, allthough It'll mean no OCing for me.
But I just have to get the rest working.
    Any suggestions?
BTW. There are no sudden crashes anymore, except while playing CS:Source.

...and you were most probably on the spot!
Everything started to work just fine after I dusted the USB headers and connected the cases front panel cables. I allso moved my memory to slot no.2 so that might done something too.
Anyhow, I'm so happy and ever thankfull to you !
Ever wander to these parts of the north, and I'll buy you one at the local...

  • K8N Neo platinum usb problem

Hi all i am new to this forum but anyway heres my problem
i was surfing the net when all of a sudden my btvoyager 1010 wireless adapter disapeared i haven't had a problem with this board till then, so i rebooted my pc it said in the task bar usb divce not regonised so i reinstalled the software but when i was promted to plug the wireless adapter back in it came up usb divce not regonise again so i tried it in a different usb port this time it worked fine. the old port will now not regonise anything apart from my pen drive which it works perfectly for, i am not sure why this is happening but i think it somthing to do with the mobo. Also one of the usb ports in the front of my case has stopped working altogeter the headers are plugged in properly but the port just acts dead, the other port in the front of my case works fine which is on the same header what could this problem be. the rest of the coumputer seems fine, i am writeing this on it.
    Please Help

the port...started working but when i plugged anything into it windows said "usb divice unregconised"
    ...then tried switching the headers
...the front usb ports then started working properly but the usb ports on the pci backpate...one of them started doing the usb device unrecgonised in windows like the front usb were doing before
So after swapping the connectors over, the problem is switched from front to back. In other words the problem stays put as far as the board is concerned - it remains with the same pinheader (JUSB1 or JUSB2). That means we can discount the device itself, the cabling, the BIOS (there is no JUSB1/JUSB2 swtich), the drivers, etc. It suggests instead that the problem is on the board itself. Maybe a damaged pinheader or something.
You said the thing was loose so maybe it got damaged while for some reason the connector was knocked out? Or it was loose because it was never connected properly in the first place due to a damaged pin? I'd study the pins & see if you can see any physical deformity. If not thenthe problem may be in the circuitry on the board and that's bad I'm afraid.
