K8N Neo Platinum: Will future BIOS enhance GeForce performence boost?

I read that the Nforce3 250GB reference boards showed a performance boost when paired with a GeForce FX video card. The K8N Neo Platinum does not take advantage of this now, but will it ever in the future?

Don't know if you have tried this things but heres my list of things .
BIOS:
-First load bios optimized defaults , then ..
-Set the cpu vcore voltage up by + 0.025v (don't use auto)
-Increase the memory voltage vdimm to 2.7v (or the vendors max defined voltage)
-Disable fsb spread spectrum
-Disable dynamic overclocking
-Disable cool n quiet
-Change the multiplier from startup to 11
-Turn off auto on memory timings in cell menu/dram and set all values manually
and the max mem frequency to 200.
-Turn off AGP fatwrites
CASE:
USB connectors
-Disconnect case front usb from usb header on motherboard.
-Disconnect the d-bracket from usb header on motherboard.
-Change the red MSI ide cable if used.
-Check all stand offs/spacers under the motherboard .
-If using PS2 kb and mouse some board have mislabeled color code
making people connect mouse in kb and vice versa .
Correct is keyboard in the bottom mouse top.

  • K8N Neo Platinum will shutdown in about a minute

My K8N Neo Platinum will shutdown after about a minute of powering up.  The front power LED will flash slowly and I am unable to power it backup without shutting off the main switch to the power supply and waiting awhile before I try again.
I can watch the PC health status within BIOS for a few minutes and all is well until I press any key.  Once I hit a key the system shuts down.
    The PC Health info...
            System Temp    45C
            CPU Temp     43C
            CPU Fan Speed    3139-3154 RPM
            Vcore       1.48-1.50V
            +12.0V      12.03
            +3.3V       3.29V
            +5.0V      5.02-5.04V
            Battery     3.22V
            +5VSB       5.13-5.15V
NOTE: CPU temperatures start out at about 38C that seems pretty high to me.   The room is not close to being 38C or 100 degrees Fahrenheit
    In the BIOS I have...
            - Loaded Fail Safe Defaults
            - Disabled quick boot (so the memory will be tested)
            - Removed logo displays (so I can see the memory being tested)
One memory module fails!  But the other seems to test OK.  With the bad module removed the system still shuts down.
    My equipment...
ANTEC Sonata case with the built in 380W power supply.
            K8N Neo Platinum
            Athlon 64 3200+ processor
            ATI All-in-Wonder 9600
Two Centon 512MB PC3200 memory modules
For testing I removed all IDE devices except for one good hard drive
NOTE: The system will boot up… but will shutdown as described above!
Do we have any ideas on how to isolate this further?
    Thanks
    JJ

Ok, had to reply to this one--had the exact same issue and this definitely is the weirdest experience I've ever had.  (You can skip to the last paragraph for the short version).
I was having the exact same problem, turn on the power, go into the BIOS, all readouts look ok but then after about a minute it would shut off with a blinking power light.  Would turn it off and back on, sometimes it would just get hung and I'd have to reset the BIOS with the jumper.
After about an hour of taking apart and putting the system back together over and over it occured to me--when does a power light flash?  When the system is suspended.  I also noticed that when I actually made it into the BIOS, the moment the system always shut down was when I hit a key on the keyboard (thought that was odd).  So I unplugged my keyboard and let it sit at the POST error for not having a keyboard.  I noticed when I did this it didn't shut itself down.
So then I wondered if the keyboard could possibly be sending some kind of signal the BIOS was interpreting as a "sleep" command.  So off to CompUSA to get another keyboard.  Mine is PS/2 but I thought maybe I'd try out a USB one to see if that would work out.  I figured the PS/2 port was messed up and had an internal short or something.
Unplugged the PS/2 keyboard, plugged in a new USB keyboard and was able to make it into the BIOS, then I was able to actually boot Windows!  (kept my existing Windows installation for the time being).  I wasn't out of the woods yet though, Windows hadn't loaded the USB driver yet so I had no keyboard/mouse when I got to Windows (and I even had the BIOS support option for USB KB/Mouse turned on, but that didn't seem to make a difference).  So, just for the heck of it, I unplugged the PS/2 to USB converter that came with my "USB" keyboard (thank goodness it was using an adapter) and plugged it into the PS/2 port again.  This time the PC booted correctly and I've been using it with the new keyboard in the PS/2 port since with no problems.  The old keyboard in the PS/2 slot still makes the system power off after a few seconds.
This has turned out to be one of the most bizarre scenarios I've ever been faced with.  For reference, my original keyboard was a PS/2 Logitech Deluxe 104 KB, and I replaced it with a cheapo $15 Memorex (was just for testing but hey, it works now).
So anyway, this is absolutely crazy, but try using a USB keyboard or even a completely different keyboard if your system shuts "off" with the power light flashing after 5 - 30 sec after you turn it on.

  • Corecenter 1.7.6 and K8N Neo Platinum 1.6 bios

    Hi
Just updated from Corecenter 1.7.3 to 1.7.6, and K8N Neo Platinum bios 1.5 to 1.6.
First thing I noticed, is my reported CPU temps are really low.
    Before:
    Idle = 34c
    Load = 55c
    Now:
    Idle = 25c
    Load =38c
This cant be right...  Anybody else experience this?
    Cheers

    Yeah, nearly everyone, apparently.

  • K8N Neo Platinum Hangs at BIOS

My motherboard is very weird. This doesn't happen every time, but every once in a while when I reboot or power on my computer, it just 'hangs' at the BIOS screen. It doesn't attempt to boot to any device; all I see is the Platinum logo. The system is not locked up, as I can hit F10 and see the standard BIOS screen that displays about of memory, etc. I'll hit the reset button on the computer or CTRL+ALT+DEL and it usually boots then, but sometimes I have to do that more than once.
I have the latest BIOS version.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Lately it's gotten a lot worse.  CTRL+ALT+DEL or the Reset button does not seem to help; it will just reboot to the Platinum screen and stay there.  If I power off the computer and turn it back on, then it boots usually, but not always.
I'm seriously thinking of ditching this motherboard and buying a different brand.  I've already had to RMA an MSI GeForce6800 and now my MSI motherboard is going bad.  I'm not too happy right now.

try doing as ktn3 did (although he had a better pSU) it may help

hmm after doing some reading I realize that the 6800 needs its own power rail or something. This whole time I had the 6800 and the hard drive on the same one!
    what PSU are you using?

  • K8N Neo Platinum 1.9 Bios is so wrong

I just updated to 1.9 from 1.7 just because of the USB problems once in awhile. Now i cant even get online anymore. Did something to my Lan. Also my ram shows 1600 instead of 3200 and scores are half of what they used to be. Latency is way slower from 42ms to 68ms, all setting are lowest ,i have Samsung TCCD's 2,2,2,5 1t set.  My temp is now 64C from 32C. This  bios is absolutely terrible.
Why Cant i get online now?????????????????   What did the bios do to the lan?

No im online , what happened was it cleared the Mac address to FF-FF-FF-FF-FF . so i changed it , and now im online. Now it seems to read the memory ok all of sudden, no reason why but reading it ok. Only thing is Temp reallly really high, this is like when the mobo first came out the bios having high temps. Back to square 1, jesus
hey dude, how did you change the mac adress?? my mac adress before the update was 001109, then when i updated the bios (to1.9) was changed to another.. i cant remember the numbers, but i'm sure is different.
btw: at 64°C you can make fried eggs!!!

  • MSI K8N Neo Platinum - no Qool & Quiet

    hy,
i spend the whole day reading lots of threads about enabling cool&quiet but in my case nothing worked.
    - Athlon 64
    - MSI NEO PLATINUM
    - BIOS 1.4
    - ProcessorDriver 1.1.00
    - C&Q enabled in Bios
    - xp spII
The moment  i try to switch to Minimal Powersavings the system immediately
    freezes when i press ok.
If i could enable it, it might work, but i cant reach this level.
Any Suggestions? probably BiosBeta 1.5 will fix something?
    thanx,

  • K8N Neo Platinum driver installation

There are 4 downloadable mainboard driver zips at MSI for K8N Neo Platinum (not including BIOS a upgrade) -
    1. NVSA020.zip - SATA controller drivers
    2. NF3_CK8S.zip - Chipset drivers including:
    Ethernet NRM driver
    Network management tools
    GART driver
SMBus driver with updated uninstaller files
*Win2K IDE 2.6 driver with updated uninstaller files
*WinXP IDE 2.6 driver with updated uninstaller files
    3. USB2W9XME009.zip - USB 2.0 drivers
    4. ALC69.zip - onboard Realtek audio drivers
    *applicable version of Win OS
Are ALL these drivers from MSI to be loaded?
I think I read in some other posts where some of these drivers (?) cause problems and therefore default Win OS (or chipset manufacturer) drivers should be used instead. Is there a concensus (or list) of which drivers should or shouldn't be installed and the correct procedures and order for doing it?

    1. NVSA020.zip, these drivers come in a diskete with your mainboard as well but possibly on an earlier version. You will need these if you plan to use a SATA Raid/ or simply a SATA drive when installing your OS of choice. Please note that if you plan to use a single SATA drive use SATA 3 or 4. In this case the drivers are not necessary but rather optional.
    2. These are the nforce platform drivers. You can either use the ones off the msi site or the ones from nvidia's site. In any case i would suggest you replace the IDE driver package with the 2.5's -> http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_ide_4.15_win2KXP.html
    3. if you plan updating to a sp 1 or 2 versionof xp, you will probably not need these.

  • K8N Neo Platinum & Thermaltake Kandalf Tower

I just bought a Thermaltake Kandalf tower and put my K8n Neo Platinum Mobo in it but I am having troubles with wiring the top panel of the tower to the mobo.
The Kandalf has the two USB plugs but when I plug them into the mobo it cuts out the USB plugs on the D Bracket, I would like to have both running if possible.
Also, for the life of me I can't figure out how to connect the Front Panel Audio Connector : JAUD1 on the mobo to the Kandalf's audio panel.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • MSI K8N Neo Platinum and DTR

    Heya fellas,
I was wondering if anyone know whether or not the new MSI K8N Neo Platinum will have support for the AMD Athlon 3200+ DTR chip?  I know some boards have had trouble with them and I'm hoping that this one, since its a new reviision, will conflict with it.
    Thanks,

If that's the "Newcastle" version of the 3200+, it is supposed to work!

  • MSI K8N Neo Platinum 2 Bios Sign On.

So I just upgraded my desktop system to juicy quad core goodness, and was going to put my K8N Neo Platinum 2 into my server box.
When I put it in, and booted it up the fans would turn on, but there was a second where it tried to output to the display and my monitor would turn on. but then it turned off.
So after disecting it again, and plugging only the video card (Geforce 6200 AGP) and the d-bracket in I could see that the lights signaled that it was stuck at the Bios Sign On.
I have a 550W Antec PSU in the box, I'm positive that is plenty, since it was in my old set up and feeding the 6800GT just fine previously.
The only real differences between the set up I had before and what is in it now, is the Adaptec 29160 SCSI card, and I removed the Audigy Platinum and the 6800 GT Agp card that I had in it.  I even tried putting that card back in, but no luck there either.
I've tried clearing the CMOS, I've tried even putting it into a new case with different PSU.  Still the same, fans start spinning, but no display.
After reading here on some other Bios issues, it says to put in a PCI card (I'll try that Monday, as I took the board into work to try to get it booted there).  I also need to test it out with one stick of ram (though I did take out two of them because I had planned on putting the other 2gb in a different PC, leaving 512mb Corsair sticks)
With installing the BIOS from Floppy, will this recover the current problem of not being able to get past the Bios Sign on?
Thanks for any help, it's greatly appreciated.

    Try with mainboard out of PC case {
Test the motherboard outside of the case to verify that the motherboard is not shorting to the case and causing a problem
         •    With only the CPU and heat sink, memory, and video card (or onboard video) connected to the motherboard, place the motherboard on a non-conductive surface and retest the motherboard
         •    Check the case mounting standoffs to verify that they are lining up correctly with the mounting holes on the motherboard.

  • Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 with MSI MS K8N Neo Platinum (Bios Version 1.40)

    I am interested in Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 (PC4000) 512MB DDR-SDRAM. Currently, I’m using MSI MS K8N Neo Platinum (Bios Version 1.40) with AMD 64bit 2800+ & MSI MS 8907 FX5200-TD128 AGP Card.
Please advice whether the Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 (PC4000) 512MB DDR-SDRAM compatible with my systems.

The "safe mode" that the BIOS message refers to is not related to Windows' Safe Mode. The BIOS safe mode lets you un-do any overclocking or memory settings that might make your computer so unstable that you can't even get into the BIOS settings to change them. In that case, you hold insert while powering on to reset the BIOS to default safe values.
As for your problem getting into Windows' Safe Mode. If you upgraded from another motherboard that uses a different chipset, or if you somehow got the wrong chipset drivers installed, then the old AGP GART or chipset drivers will cause the system to halt/reboot very early in the Windows boot process even in safe mode. I've run into this problem before and its tricky. Best thing to do is switch back to the old motherboard, then go into safe mode and remove all chipset-related drivers, and then switch back to the new motherboard. If you can't do that, try running system repair from the windows setup CD. And failing that, you'd probably have to fully re-install the OS.

  • K8N Neo Platinum Bios 1.3 Question

This is bit of a dumb question..... I am not a noob either, been building computers for 6 years.
I have a K8N Neo Platinum with AMD64 3000, 1 GB Corsair Value Ram, 160 GB Western Digital ATA Drive, ATI 9800 Pro 128MB Catalyst 4.7,   LG DVD Drive and NEC 2510A DVD burner, Windows XP Pro with SP 1a.
Tried to get into Safe Mode the other day ( to uninstall the video driver with Driver Cleaner) ...Hit F8 while booting , got the standard menu for safe mode, picked the standard "Safe Mode " option....then the computer restarts.
So I can't get into safe mode
I went back to the MSI website to get bios version again....then I saw this for Bios version 1.3 which I have on my board....
    Quote
System reboot to safe mode when "Insert" key pressed
Does this mean, instead of hitting F8...you hit the insert key , or does this mean hit F8, chose the menu selection you want , then hit insert while it is going through the boot process.
    Thought that I would ask?

The "safe mode" that the BIOS message refers to is not related to Windows' Safe Mode. OMG OMG....
If only i can get it to boot from bios.Seems pretty stable in windows even at 237.
Really strange guys.I thought 230 was my memory limit....
Gonna try higher and let you know.
P.S. this bios seems to like Kinston Ram....Value at least
