K8N Neo Platnium 7030-- Power Issues and Keyboard Issues

Hey,
This is my second computer that I've built and Im a little anxious to get it up and running. I finished a few hours ago and cant stop thinking about it. This may be a very small problem but I cant figure it out.
Actually there are 2 small problems.
1) When turn the power on and then off I have to flip the switch on the PS before i can turn it on again.
2) It starts up perfectly but stops on the platnuim logo without recognizing my keyboard. I press tab and del and nothing happens.
I have cleared the cmos, tried different keyboards, unplugged most of the commponets and put them back, taken out the memory. Oh and my Ata 133 hard drive is making a noise like its working hard or somthing. Another thing is I currently dont have an i/o shield (Still waiting for msi to send one).

Beyond stealing all you friends keyboards for a couple hours and testing them all, sounds like a short. Especially if you cant get a PS2 or USB keyboard working outside of the case, thats just not good at all.
I'd clear the CMOS and take out the battery for a couple hours and unplug the Power Supply to make sure nothing was getting voltage from anywhere.
Then I'd toss the battery back in, and flash a new bios version (beta 1.41 or 1.51) using an automatic batch file from a boot floppy, reboot and then try again with a PS2 keyboard.  If that didn't work I'd RMA the thing. Good luck
Oh, I've built a bunch of A64 boxes with that case and power supply lately, no way that is your issue unless the PS is actually broken. In fact, I just built one as my mothers Christmas present today, they work just fine with the MSI Neo 2, no way I'd give my mother something that I didn't trust, I would never hear the end of it

  • W2100z power-on and keyboard issue

My w2100z is having power-on issue, probably due to mal-funtioning USB/keyboard.
Sometimes it stays at black window forever after power-on, when it does reach the bios screen, it reports keyboard error.
The keyboard doesn't receive any power from the box (no light).
Solaris crashes immediately during boot, reporting some kind of unrecoverable machine check error.
I supppose it's during attaching some device driver.
I tried different keyboard on each every USB port, same result.
Without USB/keybord, this $3000+ box is useless (OS can't boot, can't install new OS).
It is out of warranty now, that's why I am posting here, or can I buy new warranty for one year and get this fixed?
Please give me some idea, Thanks!

    Michael,
I would recommend to re-post on the Solaris x86 yahoo
    group.Just did that.
While is a hardware issue, there are far more Sun
employees that may be able (and willing) to "ask
around" among their colleagues.I hope so.
With a SPARC based Sun, one would just attach to the
(serial) console port and diagnose the system ....yes, yes.
Did you follow the Troubleshooting Procedures from
    the User's Guide (e.g. reseating DIMMs/add-in boards,
booting from the Sun Java Workstation W1100z and
W2100z Supplemental CD to run the Pc-Check
Diagnostics) ?I did try to clean up the internals, make sure everthing is seated well.
As for the diag, the CD waits for keyboard input to choose from the top menu !
    Thanks for your reply.

  • K8N Neo MS-7030 Vista drivers

This is my first thread here, and I have a problem with my K8N Neo MS-7030 754 Mobo. I cant get my USB port to work at high speed, Vista won't let me use a Kingston 2GB USB for Readyboost, ( stick is optimized for Readyboost). Also cant use MSI mobo utilities, no driver found. Will there be updates for Vista driver for this board? Running AMD Athlon64 3700+, Nvidia 6800 agp, 2GB Corsair XMS DDR400, 400w Ultra PSU, LG DVD lightscribe, Lite On CD burner, seagate 80GB 7200 rpm HDD, floppy drive, Diamond 7.1 sound card, Vista Home Premium OS. New to system building, this is my first PC, trying to figure the driver issue out. Thanks.......By the way, does anyone know how I can get a MSI USB D-Bracket W/4 led read out, and the accessories for this mobo, like cables, CD, etc.

You have to wait for drivers to get released, very few are.
You're not the only one, many people complain about the same problems.
I just bought this board (MSI K8N Neo V2.0 H (MS-7030) NF3-250 Socket 754 ATX Motherboard), and expect it from Fedex any minute. I'd heard (in a thread at Anandtech Forums, where I first heard about this board - http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=40&threadid=2019857&f that nVidia was not going to support Vista with this board, and I'd assumed that it was an across the board thing with nforce 3 boards, but I may have been wrong to make that assumption. So, seeing this thread has raised my eyebrows and now I am wondering if I do indeed have to give up the idea of upgrading to Vista with this motherboard. What is the truth here? Has nVidia recently declared their non-support, or did I dream that up?

  • K8N Neo (MS-7030) problem with Gigabyte 6600

    Hi,
I got a problem with my K8N Neo (MS-7030) and Gigabyte 6600 together.
I just tried to upgrade my system with the following components:
    PNY 5700LE  128M -> Gigabyte 6600 256M (GV-N66256DP)
Onboard sound  ->  CreativeLab SB Audigy 2 ZS Gamer
Here is my order of installation:
    1.  Win XP with SP2
    2.  Chipset driver 5.10  (5.11 crashed during installation)
    3.  ForceWare 81.98  (I tried 77.72 from Gigabyte as well)
The system went blank during (3) and never comes back.  In the last 3 days, I must repeated the above procedures over 20 times.  I tried combinations of diffierent version chipset driver with forceware, but still no luck.
Audigy2 was sitting in the middle PCI before.  However, I encounter a few system lockup during the first 10 trials, then I found a post say Audigy 2 should reside in the orange, or the one far away from AGP, PCI slot.  Things seems better after this change.
    More detail about my system:
MB: K8N Neo (MS-7030) BIOS is the latest version, 1.9.
    RAM: Corsair Value 2 x 512MB PC3200
    PS: Antec 380W
    Video: Gigabyte 6600 256M (GV-N66256DP)
Sound:  CreativeLab SB Audigy 2 ZS Gamer
    Thanks
    Alex

    Hi,
    My PSU is Antec True3808 (5V/35A 12V/18A 3.3V/28A)
I forgot to mention before.  The CPU is AMD Athlon 64 2800+.
Also, I had enough of installation for now.  I pulled the new 6600 and put the old 5700LE back in.  Now, I installed everything without a problem.
Could it be not compatible?  PSU issue?  Or something else?
    Any suggestion?
    I appreciate any help.
    Alex

  • BIOS 2.1 K8N Neo Platinum 7030

What about the latest BIOS 2.1 K8N Neo Platinum (7030) ? Is it safe to upgrade or should i stay at 1.7 (that really works great) ?

If 1.7 is working for you I'd suggest staying with it. (Always a good idea even if the new bios is stable).
I had problems overclocking with V2.1 (the ide initialisation hangs) and many others have complained about problems with more than one stick of mem.

  • K8N Neo-MS-7030+3000 !No boot SPD

Why won't this board boot with SPD timings on CorsairXL=(Low volt/tight SPD timings) ?
Let alone boot over 225HTT--->K8N Neo-MS-7030+3000 !No >225+boot
And there's more than one thread about this, but no solutions being brought forward.

I dunno about you, but my BH5 will definitely not do 225MHz on 2-2-2-11 timings with the voltages available to this board. You need to isolate the memory from the CPU to determine which one is the culprit. Drop the RAM divider to "133MHz" (i.e. 3:2 ratio) and crank up the HTT (don't forget to change the HT multiplier to 3x). Now test your RAM buy lowering the CPU multiplier to 7x, setting RAM to "200MHz" (i.e. 1:1 ratio), and increase HTT.
Oh and if you think your pissy attitude is gonna convince others to help you, think again. Maybe if you tried asking nicely instead of sounding like the world owes you a favour, you might've gotten more replies. Of course, now when you experience the same problem on your new Abit board, I'll expect you to show up at the Abit forums whining and bitching there as well, and just like here they'll ignore you because you can't be bothered to word your posts more carefully and more helpfully (like specifying what settings you've already tried). If you can't even spend the time to give everybody the necessary info, don't expect anyone to help you.
    Classic case of PEBKAC.

K8N Neo Platnium not detecting PCI cards

I had a similar problem with a 945p neo platinum board.  Anything I plug into any PCI slot didn't detect.  I solved the problem by flashing to the latest BIOS for the board.  Now everything seems to be working fine.
Maybe that might work for you?

  • 3 seprate problems with my K8N Neo Platnium (MS-7030)

    Hey,
I am having three seprate but very annoying problems with my new K8N Neo Platnuim. Two of the problems are audio related and one has to do with my Sata hard drive.
Audio- First of all my audio is reversed and has been for awhile (annoying for games). I also have had a problem with the drivers. I have a stereo hooked up through an optical cable and with the MSI realtek 97 (newest driver) it doesnt work. So Then I tried a different realtek driver from asus site and my optical cable worked but still reversed sound. I decided to go back to the msi driver cuase they came out with a new one and same old problems (reversed sound and no sound through optical).
SATA- Secondly I purchased a maxtor 200 gig hd and tried to install windows xp on it will leaving my windows intact on my old hard drive. Now whenever i try and boot off my new hard drive it says error operating system even if i format it and this windows works on my old hd.
Anyways sorry for my poor grammer and spelling but i would really appreciate some help on these three subjects.
    Thanks

Nobody wants to help me .... I read on a different post that u can only get 5.1 surround sound for movies through optical. You cant even get the sound check to test speakers other then R/L through optical.... This seems rediculus to me!! I have to go through analog if i want surround sound!!! Anyways this still doenst solve my problem of reversed sound or the fact that the MSI realtek driver doesnt work for optical and an asus driver (which i will now reinstall knowing about the fact that my 5.1 surround sound dreams through an optical cable will never happen ) Also my problem with my SATA drive.
P.S. Is it possible to have my audio hook up from the case to the mobo on backwards explaining the reversed sound?
Anyways thanks in advance for anyone who helps me ....

  • K8N Neo MS-7030 Rev 1 - Promise Ultra133 TX2 Help

I recently installed the MS-7030 board, for some reason if I use my Promise Ultra133 TX2 controllers the board will not POST if the controllers have a HD connected to them. Before upgrading these cards and HD's worked fine so I know these are good. Any ideas as to why this configuration does not work?
Are there any other recommended IDE controllers for the MS-7030 board?
Thanks for the help in advance!

    Here are the system specs
    MSI K8N Neo Platinum MS-7030
    Athlon64 3400+
    Samsung CL2.5 DDR PC3200 (x3)
    Nvidia MX400 AGP Video
    IBM IDE 30GB HD (x2) RAID0
    Sony CD-ROM
Dynex 350 Watt Power Supply (Best Buy Brand)
    Promise Ultra133 TX2 IDE Controller (x2)
    Samsung 120GB HD (x3) software RAID5
    1.44 Floppy
At first glance it appreaed as if my power supply might have been underpowered just as you are thinking. So the first thing I did was to swap the 350watt power supply out for a beefier 500watt version. The 500 watt version is a CompUSA brand. I realize it's not an Enermax or Antec but the 500watt power supply has been used before to power a server that had the exact setup above except it had dual athlon mp's plus external HD bays for the RAID5 set. Currently the 500watt power supply powers my gaming rig which consists of:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    Athlon64 3000+
    Radeon 9800 XT
    Samsung CL2.5 1GB PC3200 (x2)
    WD Raptor 36GB (x2) RAID0
    Lite-ON DVD ROM
    Pioneer 16X DVD+-RW
    1.44 Floppy
Judging by the fact that the 500 watt power supply can power the above rig I surmise the issue is not a power supply issue. Also I flashed the bios to the latest and greatest version supplied by MSI which I believe was v1.9. As for the boot order I did check it and it is set to boot correctly from the primary HD. Thanks for the help.

  • K8N Neo Platinum Mysterious Power off

well to start off i here is the info on my PSU:
    -MSI K8N Platinum (MS-7030) ver:1 (Never overclocked)
-AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Never overclocked)
    -2x 512MB PC3200 DDR400 Generic Memory (Never overclocked)
-ATI Radeon x850 XT Platinum (Never overclocked)
    -1x Maxtor 80GB SATA HDD
-1x Panasonic 16x DL DVD Burner
-1x Samsung 16x DVD ROM Drive
    now on to the problem....
i have had this system running for the past week and things have not been right from the get go. first i had to deal with a faulty HDD from seagate now my motherboard has learned how to click off with out the slightest provocation. i can't figure it out. it is in the middle of the night. my PC is open on my desk and while i am playing HL2 the computer will just *click* and everything goes black, the HDD heads click to a stop, the fans halt, the monitor goes black, and the power LED just sits there taunting me with a steady heartbeat of 3 secs on and 3 secs off over and over. BAAAAAA.... so i reach for the power button and give it a somewhat satisfying click only to become more angry to the fact that nothing happens; so being the elite technical support person i am i try the button again but to no avail . now i am loosing it and as my blood pressure begins to rise i angrily shut off my UPS with a vengeful CA-CHUNK of the main switch. thinking that my worst fears are over and that i was dreaming i look up at the once vibrant and pulsing LED waiting for it to go out only to find that the light kept pulsing for some time until it died in blackness. feeling that revenge was complete i flip on the UPS and then press the power button to see that my motherboard is now back to life and completely fine. so i go on my merry way fragging and winning the realms of city 17 only to have the same horrid story repeat itself once again   .
i can turn on my computer just fine after cutting the power however the frequency of this event does not permit any educated guess as to its future occurrences. it is needless to say erratic and still aggravating. is there anything that can be done to same my precious gaming rig? thanks in advance,
    -Mr. Burrito Man

    Hi,
It looks indeed as a PSU problem. I had a similar problem with an MSI KT3 Ultra ARU. In that particular case, the PSU,
which claimed to to be a 480 Watt PSU,  was a very poor one, which could not even reach 320 Watt...
is there a way i could test my PSU in for this?
Quote from: EdwinGF on 23-September-05, 04:51:49
...The symptoms were the same you're having on your K8N Neo Platinum. Once we tried with a more decent and powerful
PSU, a Cooler Master® RealPower 550 PSU we use for testing purposes only. The computer didn't shut of again during a
3 Day Continous Test, we conduct for such problems...
yeah my PC never lasts over 1 day and that has only happened once.
Quote from: EdwinGF on 23-September-05, 04:51:49
After that, we installed a new CoolerMaster® RealPower 550 PSU, on that computer , and tested the computer again for three
more days. Since then that computer has never shut down without warning.
    Now the questions are:
    * Have you tried another PSU ?
    * If so, does it do the same thing?
not yet but i definitely will now.  *sigh* i as hoping this would be something non-expensive. baa
let you know tomorrow or the next day...
Quote from: EdwinGF on 23-September-05, 04:51:49
If not, give it a try, in most cases it may solve the problem. If the problem persist, please come back and let us know.
By the way, one more thing: Is your RAM ok ?, Have you mixed different speed sticks ?
    Good luck
nope nope both sticks are the same. i am planning to switch out the memory for my high performance OCZ sticks but i didn't want them to get damaged in the cross fire. i have done some extensive memory tests for these sticks that i have had in there now and they come clean every time. more in a day or so. thanks again,

  • Wireless mouse and Keyboard Issue after closing the lid - external display

Can anyone give any insight. Recent purchase of a new Late 2008 15" MBP. I have connected it to an external 24" Apple monitor on my desk and use a wireless mouse and wireless keyboard on my desk top. I have configured the laptop to wake on bluetooth devices. So here is the problem: The laptop when the lid is up recognizes the bluetooth keyboard and mouse. I close the lid/screen. Laptop powers down... the after several seconds I move the mouse and the laptop comes alive... But after that there are no bluetooth devices attached. When I use the mouse, I get "connection lost" with a white figure of the mighty mouse on the screen. The wireless keyboard is not there and I have to open the lid and manually find the mouse and reconnect. The keyboard seems to work however....
    Apple..... any thoughts..... anyone?????

Hi Stentdoc; I'm thinking, 'connection lost ~= sorta low AA batteries in the Mighty Mouse? (I would put in fresh AA batteries in the mouse and keyboard, to eliminate as an issue that the 'connection lost' is due to low batt voltage; that this is causing the failure to wake.) ... then, in System Preferences > Hardware > Energy Saver, settings for Power Adapter > Sleep, set to "never" for "Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for ..." to eliminate that as a conflict when trying to wake with bluetooth from sleep induced by closing the lid ...
Check your current "Sleep" setup (I left my MBP as "3")
    go to Utilities > Terminal
After you launch Terminal, the first step is to determine which sleep mode your Mac is currently using. You can both view and change the sleep mode using the Unix program pmset. To see your current settings, type (or, copy and paste)
    pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
    press 'enter'
You should see something like this:
    $ pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
    hibernatemode 3
So your machine is using mode 3 ... thanks to the documentation for the handy Deep Sleep Dashboard widget, which puts your machine immediately into hibernation mode (so you don’t have to yank all the power sources to invoke it):
    * 0 - Old style sleep mode, with RAM powered on while sleeping, safe sleep disabled, and super-fast wake.
    * 1 - Hibernation mode, with RAM contents written to disk, system totally shut down while “sleeping,” and slower wake up, due to reading the contents of RAM off the hard drive.
    * 3 - The default mode on machines introduced since about fall 2005. RAM is powered on while sleeping, but RAM contents are also written to disk before sleeping. In the event of total power loss, the system enters hibernation mode automatically.
also, I enabled this (to change back, input "lidwake 1":
    go to Utilities > Terminal
type in sudo pmset lidwake 0 then "enter"
it will ask for your password. type it in, that's it!
Now, when your computer is sleeping with the lid closed, when you open the lid nothing happens until you press any key ... nice: keeps it off when accidentally opened, like in a backpack?
WARNING: Improper use of the sudo command could lead to data loss
or the deletion of important system files. Please double-check your
typing when using sudo. Type "man sudo" for more information.
To proceed, enter your password, or type Ctrl-C to abort.

  • Erratic Mouse and Keyboard issues...with weird console log...

    Hello All,
I recently installed Snow Leopard on my 2x2.8 Quad Core Mac Pro following a boot drive melt down. Apple replaced the drive via Apple Care and I re-installed all my apps. The only additional item of note is I have Lycom SATA four port card that required a driver update.
Since setting up this machine with the new OS I am having massive issues with keyboard lag, erratic mouse movement and intermittent freezing.
I've run tech tools deluxe and everything passes with that app. I cant find the original install disks so running AHT on this machine isn't going to happen.
I've tried with and without the driver and the issue seems to still be there.
On a whim I opened console and I am seeing this message hundreds and hundreds of times over...
