K8N Neo2 + 6800 GT = blue screens, anyone else?

I need to know if anyone else is having this problem - please reply if you do!
Please note that the following problems do NOT occur with my geforce 5900, nor do they occur in my previous machine WITH the 6800.
In general, when games switch graphics modes from full screen whatever back to desktop, I crash BSOD - only info is either 0x00000008E , or ...0A.  Also, depending which crash it is, it also says IRQL_DRIVER_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, other times that is missing.
When I reboot, windows error reporting says the crash was in the nvidia display drivers (only when the IRQL_blah blah line is present in the crash).
Specifically, here are times I always crash (all blue screens of death):
1) Run 1/2 life full screen at 1600x1200, then just simply quit the game, blue screen.  Or, just change to windowed mode 1600x1200 in game, apply it, and crash.  Only occurs with 1600x1200 mode.
2) Got the new postal 2 game (with expansion).  No matter what res I play in, when I quit back to desktop, I crash.  Rebooting tells me it was the graphics driver at fault.
3) Painkiller expansion, alt-tab to windows... switch back to game, crash.
4) Not a game, but network associates free (1 year) virus and firewall package - after you reboot after installing - when windows is done loading, blue screen with 0x0000000A and no other info.  Only non-game that causes a blue screen.  Uninstall - no more crashes.
NO idea why this particular app is crashing.
Other games do it for me too.
I've tried everything known to man to solve this problem, but nothing works.  I've tried 2 power supplies, mem settings/timings, latest nvidia drivers, beta nvidia drivers, a zillion other bios setting, and hidden settings - nvidia speedup off, fast writes off, upped the voltage to the graphics card, and a slew of other things.  Oh yeah, reinstalled windows about 5 different times.  Flashed the bios 2-3 times with diffferent versions as well.
The system is very stable except for these times.  BFG tech support swears the card and motherboard have no incompatiblilities, but *something* has to be wrong here.  I'd blame the vid card drivers, but that doesn't explain why the card works in my other machine.  MSI tech support just gives me new bios's to try.  All cause the same problem.
Could I have a bad mobo?
My current powersupply is a True Blue 480W Antec, in case my sig doesn't list it.
Please reply if you have this problem.

Disabling DEP made no difference.
Unplugging all my case fans, 2 hard drives, and dvd writer made no difference.
But installing a beta nvidia driver, v67.66, got rid of ONE crash, the half-life resolution change crash. - EDIT - I just tried this driver again, and it STILL crashes when I change res.  going to try driver cleaner again.
Postal 2 still blue screens on exit.  I believe Painkiller still blue screens when alt-tab'ing.
I'm ready to exchange the motherboard for a new one.  Hoping this will make a difference.  If zipzoomfly will still honor my exchange, I'll order a new one from there on Monday.  I guess they do crossshipping too.
There an many other people out there with the same setup as me.. motherboard, cpu, video card, and either a decent or no-name power supply who AREN'T having these crashes.  So what else could be causing them?
I'm also tempted to get rid of the 6800 GT and exchange it for a x800 pro or XT.  Since my 5900 had 0 problems with this motherboard, maybe the x800's won't either.

Sorry, I had not checked my older threads for a bit.... you might want to consider checking your hard drive's health. It's not a question if any hard drive will fail, but when. Check the S.M.A.R.T. status in Disk Utility and, if you can boot from your install CD, run repair disk. Then, take a look at this thread:

And run the Apple Hardware test:

  • New Retina MacBook Pro has crushed pixels (faint white splotches/patches on screen), anyone else?

Does anybody else have these ugly white splotches on their screens? I was so dissapointed to see this on my new retina display.  They're usually hard to see, but easy to see on a white/gray background.  I will most likely have to get a complete replacement, and this could take weeks. Does anyone else who ordered a new MacBook Pro have this issue?

    Return it.
Any display with ANY dead pixels is hard to sell.
Have a look on ebay, you will find many ads for used computers and displays that say "No Dead Pixels".
So you ever think that you will sell this computer in the future you don't want dead pixels.

  • K8N Neo Platinum 7030 blue screening/loading to black

    Running: athlon64 3200+, 1x 512mb crucial 333 1x 256mb crucial 333, nvidia gforce 6800
My computer worked fine for many months, and even though I didn't install anything recently, it started freezing and blue screening, then loading to a black screen.  The first time it happened I was playing a video game, then I restarted and it did it again when I was playing the video game.  After a day or two it stopped loading to black screen, and it loaded successfully.  But whenever I tried to play a game it blue screened.
Then I reformatted, and when I was re-installing norton, it blue screened again, then it loaded to a black screen again.
Thanks for your help in advance

It would help to know a little more about your system setup, however I would agree that you should try memtest first.  You should also try to get another 512MB stick to match your other one.  Generally (from what I've learned and heard) RAM likes to be matched in pairs that are as identical as possible.  One of my other thoughts is maybe your HD is overheating?  Feel your HD when your systems starts bluescreening.  If it feels kind of hot to the touch (like fairly hot compared to your processor) then that could be a problem.  My HDs were overheating and I could never figure out why my computer kept crashing until I felt the HDs, moved them to a better position, and placed a fan in front of them.  Also, do you have all of the latest drivers for your equipment?  Check your event log and see if it tells you whether the error was from a driver.  If it is from a driver, then just uninstall the piece of hardware and reinstall the latest drivers.
Those are my first thoughts.  Good Luck.

  • IPhone - Dust under the screen; Anyone else?

After just a few hours in my pocket, I have my first speck of dust under the screen. Anyone else experiencing the same thing?
After some inspection, I noticed there is a very small gap between the metal case and the headphone jack which is especially visible when the backlight is on (I can see light from the backlight).
    iPhone   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    Hey Luc Lux,
Do you have a screen protector on the iPhone? If you do try removing it and cleaning the screen.
If there isn't anything covering the screen, make a reservation to have a Genius at a local Apple retail store take a look at it or call AppleCare.

  • K8N Neo 2 Platinum, Blue Screen on Upgrade to SP2

    Hey guys,
Whenever I try and update the computer to Service Pack 2, on reboot, it starts to load the XP welcome screen, then blue screens itself and reboots. I can get it to boot in safe mode, but other than that, it wont boot, any suggestions? Specs for my system are now in my sig. Thanks in advance.

No hardware change from SP1 to 2, I have no external hardware on here that would be affecting it that I know of. SP2 installs all the way, but when you reboot after its done installing, the computer blue screens, and will only boot in safe mode.

  • Blue screen only

Hi. I posted this topic a few minutes ago and it has disappeared, so I will try again in this section. (First time on forum). I have just recharged my phone (E65) and all I'm getting is a blue screen, nothing else. No menu and the on/ off switch isn't functioning. Any suggestions please?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Looks like you might try the 3 button reset so. See instruction below. Note that you will lose all your data when the phone resets unless you have a previous backup with you can restore.
Always remember to backup your phone before performing resets as your data may be lost. Firstly take the battery out for 5 minutes and then replace and see if that makes any difference.
Then try the "3 finger deep reset" which is depress these three keys simultaneously "*" "3" "green phone" and then power on phone whilst keeping those same three keys depressed until you hear start-up tone.
This should ONLY be done if the device doesn't power up normally anymore and it wipes everything in the Phone memory that is not part of the ROM.

  • In start up just get blue screen

when starting my computer I just get a blue screen nothing else loads.

This may work.  Try holding the shift key down and then press the power button.  Keep holding the shift key until you see a progress bar on the screen.  If you get a login in.  Log in.  Once logged in do a re-start.  Your startup cache will be rebuilt.  The shift key starts you up in Safe Mode.  If you were able to startup in Safe Mode but not with the re-start,  you have something in your account startup items that's giving you a problem (under apple, system preferences, account).

  • Nothing but a blank blue screen...

    Hello all,
I installed the 10.4.8 combo update this morning, and now when I boot up my machine it leaves me with a blue screen - nothing else. (It's the blue screen that the log in window is usually in front of, not a desktop background.) I have control of my mouse, but no keyboard commands, no dock or anything else.
When I restart, sometimes it goes to a black screen with something about a Darwin log in, but that disappears and up comes the blue screen before I have a chance to type anything in. (Not that I'd know what to type in anyway.)
    Any helpful hints? Thanks!

    .
One of my Dual G-5s exhibits the same behavior. ... I started it as a Target disk with an already updated powerBook. ... I ran Disk Util, and fixed some permissions, but the disk was ok. ... It did show me a couple screens before it became blue. ... It said that it was loading Mac OS X, then it turned blue.
It seems to be in some sort of loop, where the screen lightens, and darkens very slightly, you have to be watching it to see it. ... Once it said it could not pair with the bluetooth Keyboard. That screen was only on for a few seconds. ... In the morning I will hook a wired keyboard to it and see what happens before I take it in to Apple.

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum PCB 1.0 vs 1.2

I noticed someone has a PCB rev 1.2 of MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum 54G. Does anyone know what they have changed in the new revision? I got a PCB 1.0.

Dunno but I really hate to hear that a newer revision chipset/mainboard is availaible after I make a purchase.
Theres 2 typical scenarios regarding newer mobo revisions:-
    1. The rectification of bugs and problems.
    2. The same results can be achieved with fewer components driving down costs.
    Hope it's the later

  • Zalman CNPS7700 and K8N Neo2 Platinum

Does anyone know if the Zalman CNPS7700 or CNPS7000 will fit on the K8N Neo2 Platinum.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Could anyone confirm that the zalman cnps7000(A/B) coolers can be use with MSI K8N Neo2 stock backplate or if the zalman backplate have to be used ?
    Thanks.....
    From SAB´s FAQ.....
Zalman has revised the fastening types in their 7000 series HSF's - and choosing the proper model will ensure that the stock MSI backing plate removal is not required.
