K8N Neo2: Massive RAM errors with bios 1.3

I just flashed to bios 1.3. Everything worked fine before, but i flashed in hope of better OC stability. Then suddently memtest86 reports thousands of errors. Could my RAM just die like that? The system isn't prime95 stable for one minute(!).
Do you guys think this is a bios or a RAM issue? Is it safe to flash back to 1.1 with ram errors?
I really need some help, tried everything i can think of :(

Well it certainly sound like some left over settings in your bios
thats screwing it up .
Flash with dos boot diskette (1.1 or 1.2 or 1.3 your choice) but do it
like this.
1. Turn off PC , and remove AC.
2. Reset cmos w/jumper .
3. Boot to bios and load "optimized settings" , F10 exit save .
4. Boot to dos with floppy diskette.
5. At the command prompt enter
AWFL888D biosfile.xxx /py/sn/wb/cc/cd/cp/f/r
6. The system boots , if a cmos check sum error appears hit "del" to enter bios
load "Optimized settings" F10 ,save exit bios.
7. Let it boot again to dos prompt from the floppy
8. You will see "updating dmi data" and " building dmi pool success"
Now it can be booted again and own bios preferances can be set
and windows booted after that.
This is how i do it , and is my recommendation to avoid leftover settings in bios
, dmi issues and will give the most possible fresh bios flash.

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum Checksum Error

Hi, I apologize if I break any rules here, but I tried to use the search option to locate an answer but couldn't find anything that helped me fully.
My problem is that when I try to turn on my computer, I get a message saying:
    "Award Bootblock BIOS v1.0
    Copyright 2000 Award Software Inc.
    BIOS ROM checksum error
Keyboard error or no keyboard present.
    Detecting floppy drive A media
INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER".
Except this, my computer is completely "dead", I cannot go anywhere. From what I have understood, my BIOS is corrupted, and I need to flash it. This should be done by inserting a boot floppy with added AWDFLASH.exe and a bios.bin. The thing is, I don't know how to find these files, or at least the correct ones. I have also tried to google for a solution, but haven't found anything satisfactionary. So this is kind of my last resort. I am very sorry if this is a newbie question, but I have almost no experience in this advanced (from my perspective) knowledge.
If someone could help me locate the correct verisons of the Award Flash utility and BIOS file, and write a short step by step-walkthrough of how to proceed, you would have my eternal gratitude.
My system is a 4 years old:

This one is stuck in Award bootblock mode, will most likely need a re-flash from a bootable floppy disk.
Make a bootable floppy disk, in e.g WinXP.
Make a file with notepad, containing this line:
    AWFL833D.EXE W7025NMS.1D0 /CC /CD /CP /QI /R /PY /SN
Save this file on this floppy by the name Autoexec.bat
Also add the two files AWFL833D.EXE and W7025NMS.1D0 on this floppy.
Power up the K8N Neo2 Plat. with this disk in the floppy drive. The flashing will begin, let it finish.
Remove floppy and reboot. If it  succeeded, set all relevant values in BIOS and save&exit.

Not always, the same fake error message can came from bad memory stick too.
Also he didn't flash his BIOS before the message to appear.

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum cant upgrade to BIOS 1.4, Windows wont boot.

    Hello
I have a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and I cant upgrade to BIOS 1.4.  I have tried everything and cannot get Windows XP to boot with BIOS 1.4.
I have reset the BIOS, set defaults, cleared the battery etc but when I load BIOS 1.4 (from a 98SE an ME boot dish and even from the Live Update?
The only solution is to rebuild Windows after loading BIOS 1.4???
    Help

    Hi !
Well, I have that problem, too. I think the reason is a new RAID-BIOS-Version built in the BIOS-Update. I´ve tried the beta-versions V1.51 and V1.5X, too - but they won´t run anyway.
My WinXp hangs while booting (before the WINDOWS-XP-Logo appears, or while fading in...). I cannot reinstall Windows completely because, when I install the 2 raid-drivers, the installation routine hangs before the licensetext - when I don´t install the drivers i cannont install on the raid-drive (beacuase the installation routine shows 2 hdds).
I think, a new driver will solve this problem, but I don´t know where to find it....

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum RAM problem

    My spec:
    AMD64 3000+ Venice
    1gb RAM Elixir
    1 x Maxtor 120gb IDE
    1 x Maxtor 200gb SATA
    1 x Maxtor 200gb IDE
    ATI Radeon x800 pro 256mb
I have a K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard, the problem is that when I try to add in another 512mb stick the system won't even boot up. I have tried other brands and amounts but still to no avail.
I boot the system up and the monitor won't even switch on, but if I take out the 512 stick it works fine.
    Any ideas?

    Not quite.
    Use the color codes .
If you have matched sticks in density (size) and timings (spd data) you can run dual channel.
This means having one stick in memory channel 1 ( green ) and another in memory channel2 (purple )
Theese are physically wired next to eachother on the motherboard , from cpu and upwards..
You can not do that , with that mismatched modules the cpu can't initialize it's memory controller .
So your only choice is to run two modules with single memory channel config .
Use the colorcodes to make sure you use signgle memory channel config (since you have mismatched sticks and the A64 memory controller cant run those in dual mode)
So your choice is to use either both green slots or both of the purple ones .
Place the one module with the higest cas rating (slowest) in the green slot with the lowest slot number (marked on the board) .
And the other stick on the green slot that remains .

  • Help! K8N Neo2-F Changing vcore in BIOS has ZERO effect!

    Hello.
    Here's what I'm running...
    K8N Neo2-F
    X2 3800
1G Corsair VS400 DDR400 (set down to 200 MHZ for purpose of finding max CPU overclock)
    XFX 6800GT AGP
So I go into BIOS to change the vcore, and no matter WHAT I said it to, or what % I set it over, when I go to PC Health or load Windows and look at Core Center, it shows the Vcore anywhere from 1.3 to 1.46.  I set it to 1.55, with the highest % over... and it remained the same... I think MAYBE it hit 1.5.
I set the VCore to 1.5 in Core Center, hit apply, and it stays at 1.3.
Cool N' Quiet is disabled in BIOS.
Anyone know what the heck is going on?

Ok, never mind, I figured it out... it seems to automatically adjust itself depending on what the CPU is set at.

Guys try ENABLEING usb/kb support in bios this fixed it for me no more flashing cursor .
but how to flash it since u need to clear csmo after flashing?

  • K8N Neo2 = better RAM support?

Judging by the fact that the K8N Neo (socket754) had severe issues with numerous memorymodules it is nothing else then logical that there should be better support for memories such as eg. twinMOS.
Has anyone heard anything about this? I've ordered twinMOS and a neo2 platinum but I might just change the order.

Ok im thinking SCREW socket 939, im going 754..
    Instead of :
    Msi k8n neo2 plat 939
    3500+ 64
    2x512 Twinmos i'll do:
    MSi K8N NEO PLAT 754
    3400+ 64
    2X512 A-data PC4000 Vitesta
I should reach pretty high clock speeds with that

  • RAM Errors with Memtest86

Well ive had probs with my RAM ever sence i built my system firstly it did send a signal to the monitor altho it posted (Weird) so i put the ram in different dimms and that seemed to work.  The only way i could install windows was if my rma was in slot 2 and 3.  Note the prob above only happened afterwards with 1 stick of ram in slot 1.  After i got windows installed my ram was only running at 166 mhz and said it was ddr 433   so i decided id move the ram to slots 1 and 3 and i got my ram up to 200mhz still sucked but thats just deafault not overclocked.  3 days later my pc crashed kept rebooting and i was unabled to reinstall format or do anything.  Putting the rma back in slots 2 and 3 did not work this time.  So i got a different piece of Ram and tried it it wud only work in slot 3 and i was able to get past the first part of teh xp instalation and then that memory crashed.  So i put my new memory back in slots 2-3 and was able to finish the installation.  But my Ram runs at shity speeds again.
I ran memtest today and i got 11 errors 10 of them in test 4 all the the errors where on 3 diff memory locations.  So is this defective ram or this mobo fcked.
Another Problem my usb 2.0 dont work the2 on the d bracket and the 2 on the front of my case well i think the 1s on the front of case are usb 2.0 not sure.  But they dont work.
Anotehr problem i lag in punkbuster games coz of ati card if i use latest gfx drivers i freeze up completely but i get new gfx card soon so not worried about that much.

Hi i will try your suggestions but i think everything is totally fcked up.
I tested the ram together in different dimms with ur configuration of 2.5,4,,4,8 and default.  Still got at least 13 errors.  so i decided to test each module seperatly:
Module 1: Slot 1 no signal to monitor although i am pretty sure it boots see it lookin for drives and stuff.
slot 2: no errors until test 5 where at 98% it gets 100,000+ errors same with all configurations.
Module 2 timings 2.5,4,4,8 2t: Slot 1 no signal to monitor
    slot 2: test 1 error test 4, 4 errors all on 1 address test 5 gets 2 98% then 100,000's of errors

    test 4, 3 errors
    test 5 smae as above
Default settings: test 3, 1 error,

  • K8N Neo2 Plat. MS-7025 BIOS 1.0D temperature readings.

    Hello all,
I recently upgraded my BIOS from 1.8 to 1.0D to support my new AMD X2 4200+ processor and I ran into a few problems.
    1) The system will now not post on a reboot. (tracked it down to be related to having a SATA HDD connected, once I disconnect my SATA drives all it well) 'Cold' boots work fine.
    2) The temperature on the CPU seem to be incorrect. I know that the amd x2's will run a little hotter. I was running a thermalright k8n silent boost and getting temps around 47-48 at idle and 55-58 with a load. I then put on a Zalman 9700 and the temps moved maybe 1-2 degrees cooler. But this is the weird part, I can stop my fan on the heat sink and the temps don't move. I did this with both Heat sinks and at a idle cpu load. Too afraid to try that at full load. I'm pretty sure I flashed the BIOS correctly. The only thing I didn't do when flashing was rest the 1.8 (old) bios to defaults before flashing to 1.0d.
I would like to know the first BIOS version that supports the AMD X2 and/or if there is a solution to the temperature problem. The SATA/posting problem I can live with but I would like to get the temps under control before I over clock.
Thank you in advanced for your time and help.
    Kyle

It should be below 40C in BIOS, more towards 35 I would say.
    What is your room temperature?
Is there much wiring and other clutter on the motherboard?
What casing do you have? Does it have a good exhaust fan? That is important!
The room temp is around 25C and I'm using a Lian Li 1200B case, there is a lot of room in there and there is a 120mm exhaust fan right behind the zalman 9700 to help move the air along. I have tried opening the case and blowing a fan on the whole system just to see what the temps would do but resulted in no change. I have my friend's rig here and just put in an AMD x2 4200+ (a clone processor to mine) and his temps are in the low 30's with a weaker heat sink. So I'm now going to put my CPU in there to see what his MOBO says. (He is using a Abit AN8 Ultra if that makes a difference or not, I don't know.) I'm still hoping to OC my system but I want to get the Temps under control or prove that I can't trust what the MOBO is telling me which wouldn't surprise me due to the BIOS releases from MSI being worthless. (I had the best luck with 1.8) Can anyone tell me where I can find a change log or what are some other BIOS I can try. ie:will 1.C work? The change log in the BIOS update folder is a freaking joke.
Tonight I'm going to flash my bios with the USB flash utility that was created by users in this forum.

  • K8N SLI PLATINUM have error with NVRAID

I install windows XP SP2 with RAID0 (strip 4 SATA HD). After installed windows show error this message.
"Raid service U.S. english resourced has incountered a problem and need to close". How can I do that?.
    My computer SPEC:
CPU Athlon XP 3500 + Winchester
DDRAM 1 GB (Cosair 2x512 MB)
    HD SATA 80 GB x 4 (RAID0)
    Sound Audigy 2ZS
    GF FX6800GT
    PSU 450 watt (Super Flower)

Dude, I've read a few forums on various branded nForce motherboards and many people, including myself, have had issues with the nvRAID. I personally had a RAID-0 setup on an EVGA NF41 SLi motherboard and it was EXTREMELY unstable. This was the reason I chose to go with the K8N Diamond Plus since it has a Silicon Image SATA RAID chipset.  If you don't need RAID, don't set it up. If you do need it, then go with a separate RAID card solution. Good luck.

  • K8n Neo2 Platinum Temperatures way out (Bios 1.8)

I'm not sure how many others experience this issue, but the temps the mobo reports are way, way out on my mobo, even after having flashed the BIOS to version 1.8 (claims in patch notes to fix temp issues.)
Currrently the system is reporting a temperature of 28 degrees Celcius, after this system been running for 5 hours, at 100% load (Folding@Home).  There is no way that could be possible!  It would be nice, but tragically not true.  This entirely messes up any attempts at automatic fan control from a software / motherboard BIOS end of things.
Oh.. processor is an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Winchester 90nm, using stock HSF (will be replaced over the weekend probably)

I installed a Arctic cooling Freezer 64 and another case fan at the same time I went to BIOS 1.8 and my temps stayed almost exactly the same.  I would expect them to drop slightly, so that makes me think my temps went up a few degrees C with the new BIOS.
My CPU load temps are 54C now, but that is on a newcastle core so I think that is probably pretty close to correct.
Speedfan, MBM5, and Corecell all read within 1-2C of each other.
This is starting to shape up like the thread that I started about this shortly after 1.8 came out....My "beef" was an increase. Apologies to whomever started this one. Maybe something will come out of it though, since there was never an answer found one way or the other last time. That's what we're here for after all.
What I was trying to figure out is how much the Neo2 Plat's sensor is off now so I can correct for it in SpeedFan & the like. Because almost all of them on most boards are pretty inaccurate anyway. Some are better than others though, in that regard. What's odd is that most people say that their temps went DOWN with 1.8.
    Strange
What's needed is someone with a proper temperature probe to get a reading at the CPU & compare the result to what is indicated. That's really the only way to know for sure. Unfortunately, I don't have access to that type of kit.
But if your load temp never exceeds the mid 50's, you're in good shape - especially if the "correction" value ends up being less than indicated.
What I've ended up doing for the time being, is setting SpeedFan to read what it did when I ran 1.5 (which had the "cold" boot temp bug) after a reboot. Which was 4C lower than what my 1.8 was/is reading (41-53C).
Now the range falls between 37-48C - almost exactly what I was running after the 1.5 "reboot remedy" & totally in line with my cooling solution (XP-90) and the amount of CPU v. that I use (1.45).
I hope I'm right...   But I'll settle for being close.

  • KT3V: crc errors with BIOS 1.7 & 1.8

After flashing with newest version of BIOS I'm still experiencing crc errors in some game installers. sometimes it helps to click 'retry' button, but sometimes it just stucks and only possibility to continue instalation is clicking 'ignore'. problem only appears in installers of new games. maybe it's system (win98se) issue...

I had similar problems on my Gigabyte VIA KT 400 mobo i fixed it by checking the BIOS settings and found out the FSB was at 138mhz instead of 133mhz .  Go into you BIOS and check all the settings etc and if nessisary reset them all to defaults :D.  It could also be the summer weather overheating your PC open a window and install a cppl of case fans

I have three ram(2x512MB single sided , 1x1GB double sided). Is there any way I can put them all on the motherboard? When I place them all the computer is not starting and it`s making a "beep" every 2-3 seconds. If i connect the 1GB double sided on the Dimm1(green) and the one 512MB single sided on the Dimm3(green) it`s working properly. Is there any way I can use all my ram at the same time. I`m desperate. How can I put my computer facts under any post I am posting? I should make it my signature?
That's the rule mate which you need to gives all your component in details including your PSU and Bios revision so that others can help you! Like what BOSSKILLER say it won't works with 3 DIMMS unless you purhased another 1 GB of RAM then it can solve your problem with 4 DIMMS or else with 2*512MB RAM. Make sure that you've lowered your HT to <=800Mhz as default is 1000Mhz. GD luck.

Memory who have low latency timings such is pc3200 2-2-2-5
    or
memory such is PC3500 or PC4000 who have relaxed timings?
By the way i'm going to try a two bank of A-DATA VITESTA PC4000...
In my short period of testing with my board all I would worry about is able to run 1t at your desired speeds. Low latency might help alittle at default speeds but once you get above 210 say pretty much equal in terms of performance.
If your not going to OC much say no higher than 220 1:1 go with some low latency like my Corsair but if your going for the max get something like PC3700 or above. Like I said having to run 2t over 1t really stinks.
