K8n Neo2 OCZ Memory Detection Problem

1.Product Type: K8n Neo2 Platinum
2.BIOS version: 1.D
3.External VGA Type: Radeon x1950 Pro
4.CPU Type: Athlon 64 3200
5.Memory Type: OCZ4001024ELDCPE-K 2 x 512MB
6.Power Supply Type: EnnermaxNoiseTakerII 485w
7.Operating System: XP/Vista Dual Boot
8.Problem Description:
I have just acquired the memory speciified above, but the system will not POST with this RAM fitted on the mainboard.
The RAM above is certified to run with my mainboard (K8n Neo2).
I have other RAM from OCZ which works fine.
This RAM is:
1 x 512MB OCZ400512ELPE
1 X 512MB OCZ400512EL
I have spoken to OCZ support and done the following:
Reset the CMOS
Increased voltage for the DRAM
Tried each of the new 512MB DIMMs individually.
But this has not helped and OCZ have no more suggestions other than to ensure that I have the latest BIOS, Which I think Id do.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

hi there,
what is your RAM which you are trying to run? is it OCZ4001024ELDCPE-K 2 x 512MB matched pair?
ensure you have used mainboard DIMM slots: DIMM1 & DIMM2
where DIMM1 is the 1st DIMM slot close to CPU socket.
have you tested each of memory sticks individually using DIMM1 slot? if yes what are the results?
remove power cord from the PSU and Clear CMOS
re-try to boot.
you can setup memory vcore manually from BIOS to 2.75V and Command Rate to T2 (all memory timings leave it to Auto) and re-test.
get a copy of Memtest86 and ensure no errors will comes during testing.

I just recently bought this board and im having problems with it. here is what I have installed.

    (2) 36 gig raptors in raid 0
    ATI X800 pro
soundblaster live Xgamer (installed on orange PCI slot)
problem im having is when I play everquest or everquest 2 my computer crashes. I run checkit diagnostics that came with norton systemworks 2005 and it says my memory has erros. Ive already sent ram back to newegg bought new ram same problem. at first the motherboard wouldnt install the soundcard I moved it to a diffrent pci slot and it installed. However same problem checkit diagnostics still says I got bad memory and Im pretty sure well im sure that just cant be the case or I have to have the worst luck in the world to get bad ram 2X's in a row.
I did call mushkin today they told me there is problems with this board and soundblaster cards ive been looking for answers on the web and and found none so ive come here in search of some.  Is my soundcard uncompatable with this motherboard? or do I need to set somthing up in the bios to make it compatable (im sure I have latest bios as I bought the board like 2 weeks ago so im sure thats not the problem eather)
    any suggestions?
    thanks.
(note for some reason with only 2 sticks of ram installed everything seems to work fine I told mushkin this they told me it has somthign to do with my soundcard that I need to contact MSI)

I have a Sound Blaster Live! 4.1 (CT-4760), and I do get random crashes. Sometimes I'm stable for days, sometimes it happens more frequently.
Usually happens while playing Enemy Territory. The computer would freeze for about 20 seconds and would resume normally after that. No errors, no reboots, no logs. During those 20 seconds everything would lock, and I would get the sound loop.
But I could blame many things other than my sound card:
    * Enemy Territory has proven to give problems before, like with video drivers, etc.
    * I could blame my PSU only having 16A on the 12V rail (will upgrade soon).
    * Or I could blame my ram not being the best out there.

  • K8N Neo2 + OCZ 3700EB = hit the wall at 221 MHz ???

    Ok so here's the Problem:
I can run my memory memtest stable at 3-2-2-10-1T@[email protected], but as soon as I try to run it at >221MHz at any latency in Windows XP it doesn't even complete SuperPi 1M.
I disabled all Aggressive Timing, Overclocking, Spread Spectrum etc options, HTT Multi is at 3x, AGP at 67, 1T/2T at Auto, etc. SATA drives are at Port 3&4. I tried Win XP SP2 and without SP. Tried all Bios Versions (including beta). There is a fan blowing directly on the ram and booster. And the PSU has more than enough amps.
As I read something on this problem already somewhere else, but no solution, i thought maybe here anyone knows something.
    My rig:
Athlon 64 3500+ on Air (Cooler Master Hyper 6)
    MSI K8N Neo2
    OCZ 3700EB 2x512MB + OCZ DDR Booster
Geforce 2MX (soon 6800Ultra, when these are available again in Germany)
    Hitachi SATA 2x160GB
    OCZ Powerstream 520W PSU
    Cooler Master Stacker Case

    @Gandauf12:
I would first try a psu with 30+ amps on the 12V line. I think that could really help you as you already singled out cpu or psu as the trouble maker. Also your 6800GT could be really power hungry. Btw how high cpu oc do you get with mem divider?
I already tried to go with an ide drive, doesn't make a difference. Now I'm running the Corsair 3200XL (but have only 1x512MB, so no dual channel). Seems to be stable at [email protected] So this means either my EB is crap or the combination of mobo + EB is unstable.
If this is confirmed with further testing I might try to RMA the EB for some 3200 Plat. Rev2 or just buy the new G.SKill DDR560 (They don't have a reseller in europe, so they ship it directly from Taiwan for only 260$ + 5$ shipping (2x512). I think, thats a real good deal here in Europe where you normally pay 320$+ for decent mem).
Hmm, 9x235 seems ok with the Corsair, now I will ty 240.

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum 54G BIOS problem

    I recently bought a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum-54G mainboard with W7025NMS v1.3  092204 revision of BIOS.
AMD Athlon64 3000+ 939 is installed on the mainboard, with 2x512 GEIL PC3200 memory modules in dual channel configuration working on default frequency of 200MHz. CPU is recognized correctly as AMD Athlon64 3000+ on startup.
Mainboard’s BIOS seems to be corrupted. In Cell Menu options, in the upper left part of the screen (printed blue) are processor and DDR working timings:
Current CPU Clock 1810MHZ, Current DDR Clock 200MHz.
Aggressive Timings and Dynamic Overclocking values are [Disabled] (processor working on its defaulf settings); Spread Spectrum is [Disabled] while all DRAM Configuration settings are set to [Auto].
While entering HT frequency settings, (locked to [x5])  there are no other values to select – empty, and there is no way to leave it (ESC doesn’t help, the only thing possible to do is to reset the computer by pressing the Reset button on the chassis), but  the HT frequency settings were enabled when I loaded Fail-Safe settings, offering [1x], [1.5x], [2x], [2.5x], [3x], [4x], [5x].
Adjust CPU Ratio settings offer only [StartUp], [x4]~[x9] values, but as I understood by reading the manual there should be [StartUp], [x4]~[x20].
CPU Voltage, Memory Voltage and AGP Voltage are set to default.
CPU-Z, as well as SiSoft Sandra 2004 and SiSoft Sandra 2005 and MSI CORE CELL show that processor works at a core speed ~1005MHz, showing multiplier locked on x5.0 and HTT locked at ~200MHz, while the voltage is ~1.05V!
I downloaded the latest BIOS revision (v1.4), did the BIOS flash, but the problem remains!
    Anybody, help!

    CPU Ratio settings
AMD64 CPOU's have a lock on CPU ratios which varies according to the specification of the chip. therefore the multiplier available in your bios stops at the max multiplier allowed by amd for your cpu.
As an example i'm running a 3200 754 which has a maximum muliplier of 11 so that is the max i see in bios.

ok i've been having some intermittent problems with this system, namely, the PS/2 ports will not work sometimes... and it seems that its consistently on EVERY OTHER boot... not on a cold start, or a warm start... EVERY OTHER no matter the method of boot/post... restart/cold anything
it is not OS issue, because on this every other start, i also cannot use keyboard to enter bios (so it isn't working BEFORE the sata drive even starts)
ALSO, when shutting down windows, the "It is now safe to shut your computer down" microsoft screen appears, and the softoff doesn't kick in.... you must use power button...
(also, this is an ATX system  )
    SO.....
    is it power?
    or mobo?

first my specs in a nutshell:
    k8n neo2 (s939)
    amd64 3500
    geforce fx5800
    the problem is:
every time i turn the power off i need to flash the bios to get trough his post.
if i reboot from windows (not shutdown but reboot) then it runs trouhg his post normaly, but if i shutdown not.
it simply does nothing if i press the power botton.
on the d-bracklet i see 4 green or 4 red lichts so that must be wrong too i think right?
if annyone have a sulution: thank you verry much
ps: i am running bios version: 1.4

By flash the BIOS do you mean reset CMOS? i.e. you switch a jumper for a few seconds?
If so you have the same problem as me in this post: MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum wont boot without clearing CMOS first.
I changed the HT in BIOS to 4x and have been stable ever since.

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum Memory Issues

I have two Super Talent 512 DDR PC3200/400MHZ Memory Modules and attempting to use them as dual channel. I am getting some funny behaviour however. In windows mode, whenever I try to do something memory intensive the machine crashes and reboots. Normally I would say that this is an issue with a bad chip, run memtest86 and determine which chip is bad. Well the results are a bit strange. When ever I run memtest with both modules in either banks 0 and 1 or 2 and 3 (dual channel configuration) I get memory errors. I then test each module separately in bank 1 and get no errors. Do I have a setting wrong somewhere? Could this possibly be incompatible ram?
Can someone please enlighten me as to why this might be happening? If its a settings issue it would be helpful to know where and how I should set this. If it is a compatibility issue it would be very helpful to know what brands of memory people have used successfully for dual channel so that I don't get stuck with this problem again.
Thank you very much for any assistance anyone can offer.
    Channon

Did you purchase the RAM from a 'chain' retailer? - like Best Buy or Circuit City, etc.?  If so it is most likely dual-channel RAM.  Now if you got them from your local 'junk peddler dealer' (that's what I call them) and the RAM chips were not sealed in a manufacturer's package, with their name on it, then you may have gotten screwed.
You can try installing one stick in slot 1 and the other in slot 3.  That should set the system to single-channel mode.  See if it runs okay and then run Memtest again.  If the test passes then you've got yourself a set of 'fake' dual DDR. :(
If you got them at Best Buy (or whatever) that is a large store with a good replacement policy, you should have no trouble exchanging the RAM for a new set... and MAKE SURE THE PACKAGE SAYS DUAL-CHANNEL.
Now on the other hand... if they came from a local computer shop, take them back to where you got them, shove them in the guy's face... tell him he's a liar and will replace your RAM with the correct sticks.  If he refuses you can always shove each chip into his eye sockets to get your revenge.

  • K8N neo2 plat. memory settings?

I have the neo2 with an athlon 64 3500+ and 2x512 kingston value RAM and AIW 9800 pro. I scored 2500 on 3DMark05 with the memory settings in BIOS on auto, then I think I changed them to 2.5,3,3,10 and I dropped a bit. Any idea what some good settings are or does the auto feature on this board work really well?

I have the same basic system but with geforce 6800GT graphics card.  My 3dMark 2005 scores are around 4800.
The D.O.T on this board is very good.  Try it;  It's very simple and you can take it up in steps.
    Good luck.

  • K8N Neo2 Windows XP Boot problems

I've recently built a new machine based on the K8N Neo 2  & Athlon 64 3500 and am having intermittant problems during boot  into Windows XP.
Basically the machine seems to hang just as it gets to the 'Windows XP' logo.  The screen looks blank, but if you look very carefully the logo is displayed very faintly.  I have tried connecting the startup disk to both SATA1 and SATA3 with the same results as at first I thought it may be some kind of driver problem.  I didn't have to install any SATA drivers during the XP install which surprised me.
I have also run Memtest86 on the two sticks of 512Mb PC3200 Geil Ram which seemed to test OK.
Once running the machine is stable, its just annoying that it may take 2 or 3 tries to get it up and running.
Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.
The full spec of the machine is as follows:
    K8N Neo 2
    Athlon 64 3500
    Geil Value PC3200 512Mb x2
Maxtor Diamond Max 9 80Gb (Boot Disk)
    Maxtor Diamond Max 10 200Gb
    Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600XT
    Andi

I will not install the nForce IDE drivers on the (I guess soon) reinstall. I've read that the PS/2 keyboard also could be the badguy in this weird boot problem but I cant understand why and how the keyboard could add time to the bootup sequence only sometimes, I guess that it has something to do with the XP keyboard driver ??..
Anyone with any other tips is welcome. Other than this weird problem my system runs perfect. MSI Core Center now tells me that my CPU temp is 45% (CPU speed 1004) (Downloading stuff but not doing anything else), CPU speed is according to XP 1.79Ghz and I use the Cool 'n' Quiet function, On what temp should I start to become alarmed and is there some way to setup something in the bios to shut down or warn me when and if the CPU gets to hot ?..
Thanks for helping a new   MSI user out

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum, suddenly has problems

This is the first system listed in my signature. This PC has been working well since it was built a couple of years ago. Recently, it seemed that the graphics were a bit taxed (I do some desktop publishing), and the system was running slower than normal. So I figured it might be time for a new video card. Installed a X1650PRO 256M and no post, no display. Checked that everything was seated properly, verified all connections, and tried again, nothing. Put the old card back in, nothing. Kicked it a few times and put the new card in with my fingers crossed, and she booted up. This was about a week ago. The system has been acting funky ever since with incomplete startups, random freezes, no display on boot, running very slow, and one time, Bios didn't see the hard drive array on POST. My first thought was that the power supply was overtaxed with the new card, but I am also considering a hard drive problem. Looking for some input... thanks

  • K8N Neo2 Plat & USB-keyboard problems

Does anyone have problems with an USB-keyboard? Sometimes (not very often), the USB-keyboard just stop working in windows. When I unplug the USB-cable and put it back, keyboard start woriking again.
Always, when I switched off & on the power supply and then turned on the computer, the keyboard won't work. You cannot go to bios etc. Again, I have to unplug the USB-cable.
The other USB-devices, mouse and priter, work perferctly. There is nothing wrong with the keyboard, I have tried it in another computer.

    - What OS / ServicePacks ?
    - What USB settings in bios ?
    - Do you use std. Windriver or installed the driver that came with the keyboard ?
    - What MoBo bios version ?
    - Any IRQ conflicts ?
    Please make full system spec.
    - WinXP sp2
    - USB KB/Storage Support Enabled
    - USB Mouse Support Enabled
    - Standard windriver (I dont think this is the problem, because keyboard does not work at all also before windows start loading)
    - New bios 1.5
All this started to happen when I flashed the bios to version 1.5x mod.

  • K8N Neo2 Plat IR interface problem

Installed IrDA device connecting it to J1R1 on the MOBO and WinXP will not install drivers, returning error stating "Device Instance Name is Invalid."  I disconnected the IR panel from the MOBO and re-booted and removed the device from the Device Manager and re-booted again.  Then shut down and re-connected the IR panel and started up again.  Still the same problem, but a different Instance Name.  Not certain about the IR BIOS settings.  I have them at:
    IR Function Select - IrDA
    RxD, TxD Active - Hi,Lo
    IR Transmission Delay - Enable
    UR2 Duplex Mode - Half
    Use IR PIns - IR-Rx2Tx2
Can anyone please help with this.
    Thanks

Fredrik, you may be right about the re-load.  I stopped the upgrades at SP2 as SP3 doesn't like my graphics card (AIW 9600).  However, the IR worked prior with SP2.  I noticed the MOBO header connector layout is not "INTEL Front Panel I/O Connectivity Design Guide" compliant and will look into that further.  Although, as I said, the setup worked OK before.
Problems started with inabilbity to retrieve Microsoft Upgrades.  I let the Security people at Microsoft have access to the computer and it would not boot after they finished.  In an effort to sort that out, I ran HD diagnostics on both RAID 1 HDs and one of them failed to pass.   Fortunately, I was able to recover all of my files.

  • K8N NEO2 cool and quiet problem

I noticed that when I enable cool and quiet, my CPU clock gets stuck at 1 GHz (5x multi), it will not go full speed even at max load. Does anyone have any ideas?

Default xp installation use processr.sys Microsoft signed as cpu driver .
With AMD installed cpu driver it updates to amdk8.sys Advanced Micro Devices signed .
As for why the driver states version 1.1.0.0 i wonder myself .
Think that the changes are in the inf/cat/installshield file ,thats what i think when looking at the revision history.
    Edit:
It is the file cpudriver.EXE which is 1.1.0.14 revision
