K8N Neo2 Plat and Audio Troubles (to put it lightly)

So it starts like this:
Old computer craps out, time for a new one.  Buy the AMD64 PIB with the Neo2 Platinum on the nForce3 Ultra.  And RAM, etc.  Slap it all together, pick up a new set of speakers (I got 5.1 ability, I'll use it) plug 'em in and fire it up.  It's fantastic, I'm blasting music and games, getting 100fps solid in everything, so I fire up ventrilo to talk to my buds.
"Dude...you're not saying anything"
Crap.  First thing's first, I make sure I pluggd my mic in.  Check.  Audio settings.  Ahhhh, microphone is muted.  Click unmute.  SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.  ?  I'm getting feedback through my speakers.  Not loud mic-right-next-to-the-speakers feedback, more like mic-pulled-just-short-of-out-of-feedback-range sounding feedback.
Alright, fine, driver must need to be updated.  Take a peek in my device manager, head on over to RealTek, and can't find the driver.  So I shoot them an e-mail, they respond within an hour with a link to the driver I wanted.  Perfect.  Update driver, reboot, fire ventrilo back up.  Same exact problem.  Off to nVidia for me.  Download the Audio Driver Package.  Gives me a zip with a folder in it.  Drop it on my desktop, go to install the drivers through device manager again, point to the folder.....nothing.  Apparently the driver I downloaded doesn't have the necesarry software for installing the driver.  Now I'm agitated, now I'm here.  Notice I've worked my way up the ladder and have been patient for quite some time.  If anyone has any idea how to get my mic to start working (Yes, it's not broken, and yes, I've tried several others), now is the time to come forward.  Otherwise I'm gonna be here hitting F5 all night.  No one wants to see that, do they?

If you add a PCI sound you might have to disable the on-board audio in BIOS, or BIOS might do that for you automatically.  In either case your problem would be fixed if the problem is with the mic port on your MB and assuming your mics are really ok.  I'm not saying that they are not, I am just trying to explain what will/will not happen depending on what is/is not currently working.
I haven't purchased a sound card in a long time but I am wondering if you can get a really cheap one and maybe a really cheap mic and test them in your system.  That way you can resolve what your problem really is.  Then you can return the cheap ones and buy what ever you really want.  I would hate to see you buy an expensive audio card and then find that the problem is somewhere that we haven't identified yet (tho I can't at this point think of anything else that might be wrong).
Or better yet maybe you can borrow a sound card and/or mic from a friend just for testiing.

  • New K8N NEO2 PLAT. and SC-939 3200+ help needed...

    Hello,
I have just upgraded my system with K8N Neo2 Plat. and sc-939 3200+ A64 Cpu.
There are several issues I need to resolve which are:
1- Although I change from BIOS the settings for AGP to 4x8x and enable fast writes, I still cant see them turned on from the Catalyst Control Center. Everything is greyed out what can I do? They all used to be on and agp was 8x with my K7N2 Delta board....
2- Although I installed the original drivers from the MSI CD, I couldn't get one of the network prts to install. Realtek installed OK. But other one is defined by the device manager as standart network adapter. What can I do?
3- I am brand new to A64 system so I do not know what setting to use from BIOS can you help me out, for instance there are values for HT such as x3 x4 x5  mine is set to x5? what is this? should  I enable cool and quiet, I am not intended to do overclocking. Can you give me some tips for best performance?
    My best regards.

Make sure your bios is up to date: version 1.5. Look at the sticky threads and use the information to enable hidden bios features. Disable ATI/NV speedup in the bios. Uninstall your drivers and reinstall. If the information is still greyed out, download the free version of Sandra here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/ and check the module under video system information. This will tell you if fast writes are enabled and your AGP setting. Leave the HT(hyper-transport) set to 5X unless you plan on oc'ing, if you do oc then may find you'll need to reduce it to 4X or 3X. Try downloading the latest driver for your network from the MSI website. Right click the device in device manager and select update, select specific location then "don't look...I'll choose", direct it to the file where you've unpacked the correct driver and then update.

  • Problem with K8N neo2 plat. and ram

    Hello everyone
Recently I had 2*512mo of PC3200 ( double side ),  they hold all approximately 235mhz has 2.5/3/3/8 1T (tested separately)
But, when I puts them into dual they are stable under memtest always with 235 2.5/3/3/8 1T but are unstable under Windows,  under xp they are stable until 207mhz maximum whereas they hold much higher under memtest
If I want to be stable A 235mhz under Windows it is necessary that I put them in 2T but y' has an enormous loss of perf
I tested different bios (1.37mod, 1.4 official, 1.41mod, 1.5 official, 1.8r3mod, 1.9 official and 1.B4mod) and always the same problem I also tested on port 1 and 3 (near to the CPU) and 2 and 4 but there it is still worse
Here if you have suggestion they are the welcomes

  • K8N Neo2 Plat and 1.B0 - No BIOS Setup Screen

    With K8N Neo2 Platinum (MS-7025):
After flash to 1.B0 version, from 1.90, boots normally.  But, hitting Delete key to go to BIOS Setup, all I get is a blank screen with a white cursor in upper left - Won't go to BIOS Setup.
Went back to 1.90 with no problems.
Is this a known problem with 1.B0 version?

    http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~chsmith/Syars_Bios_Collection/NEO2/
It's 70251b0.zip. A modded version of 1B that you can reach thru the above thread found in Syar's sig.
Let us know if it works for you too.

EDIT.  I recommend winflash.  Don't use liveupdate.
If you loaded live update on your computer then you have winflash.  Go to C:\Program Files\MSI\Live Update 3\FlashUty\Award but use it carefully, shutting down all other programs and selecting the boxes to clear cmos etc. as described here:

  • K8N Neo2 Plat and San Diego Core

What is the best bios with the San Diego Core?  I'm currenlty running a AMD 3000+ Venice (LBBLE 0516CPBW) and want to switch.  I'm currently running a Syar moded bios.  I'm at work and don't know which one I'm running.

Same bios + new Win XP installation.
You really should take a look at the cpu-list.
    All these cpu models are covered with the 1.B /C1 bioses;

  • K8N Neo2 Plat power and bios question

    I have a K8N Neo2 Plat. I use a UltraProducts 500W xconnect PSU and a BFG 6800 GT OC.
A couple weeks ago the 6800 died. I contacted BFG and they sent me a new one.
The new one died the same way after a week. They said to check the power levels on the +12 rail.
In windows using softare tests it reports 13.58
in the bios it reports 12.22
both are over the allowed variance.
Ultra products told me to check with my motherboard manufacturer to see if there was a BIOS setting that would let me set the power on the +12V rail. Is that possible?
Is that something my K8N Neo2 Plat can do?

No, you cannot lower the 12V-rail by a bios setting. I really don't see what they mean by that.
Your motherboard does, however, regulate the power that comes from the power supply. Within certain margins it can lower the voltage and keep it steady. Your videocard can do the same. Now, depending on the tolerance (quality) of your hardware, you can vary on those margins. But on any piece of hardware, there is a point on which it cannot correct/lower a voltage that is too high. It then simply shuts down or dies.
To my opinion, the PSU-maker gave you a very funny piece of advice. What he actually says is that their psu may give too high a voltage (I talk about the 13+ now), but your hardware should correct this. That's not the way it works: they should make psu's that give 12V where it should. So, I'd demand a replacement. But, before you do: use a multimeter to measure the 12V-rail. You cannot trust the board's measurement too well.
But then, like Stick  says, I think that 12.22 is within mentioned margins. 13.58V is too high. So, that's why you should first measure using a multimeter. Measure for a longer time. System idle, system full load. Write everything down and see how steady this psu is. If 12V dances arround, replace it.

  • NVidia Video Driver Causes Immediate freezing upon loading to desktop (K8N Neo2 Plat)...

after many a reinstall, order of loading drivers, i have finally traced my system's problem to the nvidia video drivers.  i have no clue what to do.  install everything (new nforce drivers, sp2, audio and ethernet drivers, windowsupdate, etc.  EVERYTHING except running the nvidia video drivers package and the system does not freeze.
as soon as the video drivers are loaded, restart and once i get to the desktop it freezes.  every single time.  go into safe mode, remove video drivers, restart and the system doesn't freeze.  fast write is disabled.  all dram settings at auto.  cool and quiet disableed.  system specs are:
MSI K8N Neo2 Plat MB (bios is v1.3)
    AMD64 3200+ Winchester Core
BFG 6800GT OC AGP Video Card
2*512MB Mushkin Dual Channel Blue Ram (2-3-3-6-1T at 200Mhz)
120GB WD Caviar 7200RPM 8MB Cache IDE HD
    NEC ND3520A 16x DVD Burner
    CoolerMaster Wave Master Aluminum Case
    Coolermaster RS-450-ACLY Power Supply
    any ideas?

well i'll be damned.  spread spectrum.  it was spread spectrum being enabled.  there just isn't a more satifying feeling that thinking you figured out what was causing freezes and then finding out it's repeatable!!
spread spectrum on. freeze.  reboot.  freeze.  reboot. freeze.  spread spectrum disabled.  reboot.  no freeze.  reboot.  no freeze.   reboot.  no freeze.  spread spectrum back on.  reboot.  freeze.  reboot. freeze.
    i love it.

  • Boot failure - k8n neo2 plat

    Hi, I'm having trouble
Just purchased an MSI k8n neo2 plat mobo with an amd 64 3000+ and finally got her all setup... well minus the geforce 6600 gt arriving tomorrow and I still need to figure out what I'll do as far as memory goes. Ah but I forget myself... the problem at hand is this; I am unable to boot the system and the d-bracket indicates its current status is "Processor initialization..." Then nothing. Blank screen.
    LED's btw:
    red green

    thanks for any help
    Sytem specs:
    k8n neo2
    amd xp 64 3000+
    geforce 2 mx
    1x mushkin pc2700 256mb (test mem)
    60gb maxtor
    generic cd-writer
    PS is @POWER 430w with:
    +3.3v = 28a
    +5v = 40a
    +12 = 17a

1)I'd go further than shturmovik in your 12v amps requirement you need at least 24a especially with your new graphic card.
see Basic Building Tips - Quote
As this pertains to A64's make sure that you have a power supply that is either approved for use by MSI/AMD or that you have plenty of amps on the 12 volt rail. Typically we have noted many issues based on stability with PSU's being rated at less than 24A on the 12v rail.
    Power Consumption: NVIDIA vs. ATI
    2)The D-Led Quote
    Processor initialization
also covers memory issues as with the 64 the memory controller is on the CPU.
as your 1x mushkin pc2700 256mb (test mem) this rules out any dual channel problems.
    which slot is it in.

  • K8n neo2 Plat 54G, allround WLAN card

Does someone know if the WLAN PCI card provided with
the k8n neo2 Plat 54G will work in any other PCI slot
on any other motherboard? Reason I ask is the orange
colour slot on k8n Neo2, which is 'reserved' for the
WLAN PCI card, hints to be some kind of conditional slot?
I have a wireless network at home, but not using the k8n
wirelessly, but some other boxes could.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but figured someone might have use of this info.
As an update, a good while back I put this WLAN card in an ECS VIA KM266 board, seemed to work, but was not too pleased with its performance or the SW MSI had along with this card. So I used another wireless solution instead.
Today decided to see if any new drivers around for this card.
The wireless chip on this card is a RT2500 by RaLink.
Looked up at their website and found driver version 3.2.0.0, date 26-Oct-2007.
    http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Home/Support/Windows.html
This driver appear to work OK, the connection stays up, even at weak transmission conditions. The speed is not amazing but works. I assume it works reasonably well under good signal conditions.
EDIT: new version posted, version 3.2.0.10, date 12-Feb-2009.

  • K8N Neo2 Plat - No start beep...

    Hello,
Does anyone finaly found why with the K8N Neo2 Plat board sometime the puter wont beep and start? Need to shut it down and try a few time before it does beep and start the puter? Basicaly the problem is that when you start the computer you should hear a beep then you will see something in your monitor screen such as drive information, cpu speed and memory then it will search for cd, floppy boots and then windows will start if no boots are found but there is no beep and nothing appear on the screen then you have to shutdown the puter and try a few reboot then somehow it decide to beep and start...
I've read many thread and I tryed this so far:
    -Removed Keyboard and mouse
-Tryed to push harder the video card in its slot
-Tryed to push harder the memory in their slot
-Tryed to push harder the sound card in its slot
-Tryed to push harder the LAN card in its slot
-Tryed to start the computer without the monitor
-Tryed to remove all my additional fans to give more power.
-Tryed to reinstall Windows XP SP2
-Took a look at the cpu and cpu fan
-Changed my video card for a new one
-Tryed to remove memory and it only does a long beep and no system start at all. (which is normal)
-Removed Spectrum, aggressive timing in bios, no overclock setting also.
I have tryed all these and still have problem starting my computer. Is it a motherboard problem? a Power supply problem? a Cpu problem? A memory problem? If anyone can help to find out it would be great!
By the way maybe its because im not english but I dont know what PSU mean, can anyone tell me?  Thanks
    Sorry for my english!

You might want to try a better PSU as the Antec SL400 does only 18amps....
It's overloaded at 23A....see the specs....

  • FYI: To those getting no video at all during POST on K8N Neo2 Plat

I've been racking my brain all day/night fighting my new K8N Neo2 Platinum system. I first put together a minimal system with just memory, CPU/cooler, and AGP card and powered it up to make sure it would work. Sure enough I saw the Platinum POST screen and I went into the BIOS.
I figure all is good so I turn off the system and install the rest of the components.Like so many others I powered back up to the disheartening screen of nothingness. The D-Bracket showed all 4 LEDs green so I was baffled as to the problem. I tried various forms of restart with the same result. With a sigh I began reverting my system back to the original bare bones set up. Same result...black screen. I tried various CMOS resets after reading everything I could find. New result: black screen but POST would always get stuck with D-Bracket indicating "Initializing Floppy Drive Controller".
After trying various memory configurations, various CMOS resets, various AGP graphics cards, and many other things for several hours to no avail I finally got out an ancient PCI graphics card and was finally able to get video and enter the BIOS. I selected Load Fail-Safe Defaults and made sure to select AGP for the Primary Graphic's Adapter setting. I swapped the PCI card out and the AGP card back in. Still no video on the AGP card. I put the PCI card and AGP card in together and rebooted again. PCI card has video, AGP card does not.
I still don't have my problems solved but I at least wanted to let people who are getting no video on their AGP graphics card know that they may be able to get video on a PCI graphics card. As a side effect, for whatever reason, it appears that I get fully through the POST again and the D-Bracket lights up all the LEDs.
Hope this helps someone out there who is frustrated like I am and maybe someone can figure out what's wrong with the AGP graphics.
The BIOS version is currently W7025NMS V1.3 092404 15:57:09...I'm going to work on updating that next and see if that fixed anything.
Here's my system if it would work:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 90nm
    Gigabyte 3D Cooler-ULTRA GT
    OCZ 520W PowerStream
    OCZ 512MB DDR400 PC3200 EL Platinum Rev. 2 (4 sticks)
    BFG nVideo GeForce 6800 Ultra
I made the following substitutions to test:
OCZ DDR400 PC3200 EL Platinum Rev. 2 (1 stick in various slots, 2 sticks in various slots in single and dual channel mode)
    Corsair 512MB Value Select DDR400 PC3200 (1 stick in DIMM 1 slot)
Radeon 9700 Pro (old AGP card -- didn't work any better than BFG card)
Some old PCI card -- not even sure what it is (allowed me to see what was going on!)

Nope. Cable is definately not on upside down! =)
I get the same behavior on both floppy drives I've tried. The light only comes on when it tries to access it and it reacts as though I've put in a bad floppy. Thing is the floppy works on several computers and works on one of the floppy drives I used with this system, only while it was connected to another machine.
I was able to update the bios to v1.4 without using a floppy by making a bootable CD and flashing from there. Still no go. I think at this point I'm ready to concede that I do in fact have a motherboard that has gone south. I've tried every combination of option I can think of in the BIOS but the AGP and Floppy Controller both appear to be fubar.
Still, the one good thing that came out of all this is that I found out how to make bootable CDs. I'm sure to use that little trick over and over and that may make it so I don't really need these pesky floppy drives anymore at all! I'll make a post on this so we'll soon all be floppy free! =)

  • Unidentified 10-12Pins inside the K8N Neo2 Plat

    Hi guys,
I've just finished setting up my K8N Neo2 Plat into the case with the jumpers and cables etc. And there's sometihng interesting I discovered.
There is a set of jumpers or Pins, just above the JDB1 [D-Bracket pins] that seems to be unused and un-labelled in the Instruction manual.
The PCB has it labelled as JPC1 with a small arrow pointing downwards.
I searched thru the manual, and no sign of what it's used for.
Anyone else noticed this when they installed their board jumpers and pins?
    Many thanks
    mystify

LOL..you can pm to syar as he has the modded bios for 1C as i'm using his bios as nice and easy. But like what qyx say corecentre messing all you setting including the bios and stay away any DOT, C&Q if you're ocing your system. Better used manual way to set it in the bios. GD luck.

  • K8N Neo2 plat, no post issue cont'd.

Hi its me again, the guy with the intermittent "no post" k8n neo2 plat.
Loaded the 1b3 beta the other day, again 1 day later the box would not post, as usual no
indication on the D-bracket, just one flash of the keyboard, the fans span one half round.
Since it could run for 1month plus with 1a3 beta BIOS(no usb2.0 (I could not wait any longer wanted usb2.0 so I flashed to a newer bios)),
start thinking it could be something between these latter full versions and this.
Then saw a thread on the web about someone having a Winnie that his box also has issues when swapping for latter
version than 1.5, with 1.5 his plat run fine. Go figure.
So for the time being I switched it to v1.5 bios, lets see how long it holds.
oh btw, the CMOS clear "no effect" seem to be avoided, by unplugging every external
peripheral prior to doing the cmos clear.

Go take an A+ Course please. No one with 2 cells of brain capacity would hook everything up on first boot not knowing if it will work or not...
    Thanks, all help appreciated.
The Led display from your D-Bracket indicates it is stopping when it tries to initialise the floppy drive.  You don't have one.  No A+ course needed, just hook up your floppy or disable it in the BIOS.  I have no floppy drive (I have no need) so have it disabled.  Probably best to hook up all relevant devices that will enable a working machine.  The BIOS is probably halting when it can't initialise a device.  There would be no point in it proceeding if it doesn't have all devices needed for a bootable machine...
See D-Bracket guide here D-Bracket Guide
    I'm only guessing.

  • K8N Neo2 Plat - Is 1.8 still the best bios?

Just bought new gfx card - Sapphire X1600Pro 256MB AGP - for my K8N Neo2 Plat setup (see sig for the rest).
I was getting 3dmark03 scores of 4400 to start with, then it has upped slowly to just over 6000 thanks to the various BIOS experts setup guides. I haven't found the Shgift F2 menu - is that only in later BIOSes ?
I'm only at BIOS 1.3 due to it's amazing stability with this setup, but now of course, I'm wondering if upping to, say, 1.8, might help improve things further ??
    TIA

    Hello !
The 1.8 bios is very good unless you are planning to run/update to an X2 dual core , then you will need a newer one for sure.
There is nothing faster and better with 1C , EasyBios 1C and my modded have better default values set in it ,EasyBios
have also better reworked layout (more user friendly) , but if you don't have any problems with your current one I would stick with it .
It's almost the same with my Neo1 system (Ms-7030) , I have this frozen at the 1.5b6 bios - with the Newcastle cpu in it
it actually works worse with the latest BIOS
