K8N NEO2 Plat SATA issue

I have RAID set for disable in the Bios as I am not using it, however right after POST I get the "seeking array", or something like that, message. PC seems to boot fine, but I am concerned that this will develop into a problem. I originally had RAID0 on a pair of Raptors, which worked fine but I was worried about HDD failure, so recently attempted to change to RAID0+1 with 4 matching Seagate SATA2 drives (jumper set for Sata150), but the array would not boot after installing XP, would just keep cycling reboot at the WinXP loading screen. So I gave up and just set it up with one drive, which works fine now, with the exception of the "seeking array" message after POST, which wasn't there originally when I changed from RAID to non-RAID. I have a feeling that there is something wrong with the SATA/RAID controller. Any thoughts?

I think you are mistaken. Many bios flashing programs include options to reset ESCD, but that doesn't mean the ESCD data is in the flash rom. The same bios flashing programs also include options to reset the CMOS and clearly that doesn't mean that the CMOS data is held in the flash rom!
Yes, I agree that the ESCD data is held in non-volatile storage. That's what CMOS is with a battery attached.
Don't get me wrong - you *may* be correct, but I don't think so and I don't see any evidence above to change my mind. As far as I know the ESCD data is held in the CMOS. I can provide *many* sources confirming that ESCD data is held in the CMOS and have yet to see any stating its held in flash.

K8N Neo2 Plat RAID Issue/Prob *SOLVED*

Hello,
I had a brief look over some past posts to find some problems with RAID and the K8N Neo2 boards.
I've been baging my head against the wall to try and get windows setup to run on my PC. I get to the point where it says "starting windows" (or something like that) in the bottom left hand side of the screen(still in the DOS section of the setup) screen flickers few time then thats it just lock right up. I think I've tryed every OS under the sun with this, windows XP(home), windows XP +SP1(Home and pro), windows XP +SP2(home and pro), Windows XP x64 (pro). All with the same prob.
However i also tried Windows 2000 +SP1 wich got upto the sysprep stage before it bailed out on me, And i also try Windows Server 2003 SBS and this also got upto the sysprep stage.
But as soon as i turn of the RAID everything installs no problem.
I've flashed the BIOS to the latest version, I've redownloaded the RAID drivers do get the latest ones, tryed combinations of of the SATA ports.
The HHD's are Western Digital Raptor 10,000 RPM 36gb (I've RAID'ed them together before on my old K8T Neo mobo)

I had the same problem. What eventually fixed it was making my own floppy, using the NF3 RAID Driver and NF4 Storage Controller. For some reason I had nothing but problems using the floppy that came with the board and the floppies I made using the info on MSI's site.
You can tell if this is your problem by only installing the Nvidia Raid Driver ONLY. If it gets past where it is locking up then you know it is the Storage Cntroller. Exit the set up and make another using the NF4 Storage Controller. I hope that helps.

K8n Neo2 Plat Sata Raid 0 and IDE drive - Board won't detect IDE

I have my K8n Neo2 Platinum board configured just fine for 2 WD raptor sata drives in raid 0. However, I need to add more space so I went out and got a Seagate 180gb IDE drive. I plug it into the primary IDE slot and the board won't detect the new hard drive. I have 2 DVD-ROM drives working fine in the Secondary IDE slot. Why won't the K8n detect what is plugged into the primary IDE slot?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Okay...
First, remove both of your DVD Drives and try connecting the new HD to the Secondary IDE Interface as master. Use 'cable-select'. If the drive then works, leave everything set to cable-select, and try installing the HD as master, and one DVD drive as slave, on the primary channel. Next, set the other DVD drive to cable select, and install it on the secondary interface as a slave.
If the drive is still not detected after removing both DVD Drives, then try installing the DVD Drives onto the primary interface. If they work, then you've most likely got a bad HDD. If they don't... your mainboard may be bad.

K8N Neo2 Plat. boot issue

My K8N Neo has worked flawlessly until recently. During POST, right after it does the memory test and before IDE detection it reboots. Will sometimes do this 2 or more times in a row before completing a POST and booting the OS.
I tried updating the bios (tried ver 1B and 1C - same issue) currently running bios 1.9. Also tried moving the memory to the other 2 open slots, same problem. Memtest and Microsoft memory diag don't report any memory errors.
system specs are:
X2 3800
1gb (2 -512mb) OCZ gold EL
BFG 6800 GT
2 Seagate 120 sata drives
1 Seagate 250 sata
1 pioneer dvr-110
1 benq 1640
enermax 465 PSU
No new components have been added or changed recently. I don't have the D-bracket installed but I will and see if it shows a problem.

Here is the response I got from MSI support :
"Please install only 1 pic of memory to test it first. I will recommend you to install the memorys on DIMM 1 and 3, it will led the memorys run in Dual Channel. It may increase the performance.
I think you may also need to change the memory timming in BIOS according to the spec of your memory.
If problem presists, please apply for an RMA and send back themotherboard. We can repair/replace it if it is within warranty. Thanks. "

K8N Neo2 Plat Boot Issues. Bad Flash?

Well i just got my board in the other night and i had everything up and running and wasn't too satisfied with the OC on the memory scores i was getting so i flash to bios 1.55 from one of the sites linked from here. Everything went fine on the flash with no apparent errors but now when i try to boot it gives me the normal boot beep then right after a tiny faint beep and it locks up at the Platinum screen where you can hit DEL or TAB to post. I flashed from a win98 virtual ram drive to avoid the issues of a bad floppy. There were no errors on flash at all and it rebooted itself at the end. I've tried to reset the CMOS many times and still nothing. I've tried changing out mem, psu, vid cards, and other parts just to see if i can get past the screen but it won't budge. Anyone heard of any simular problems and if so how can i fix it short of rma?

Unfortunately i've tried the bad flash for my bios and nothing happens at all. The Floppy never even starts and neither does the light on it to read from the floppy. I left it running for atleast 15 mins once and nada. Wish there was an easy way to fix it heh. Guess i've learned my lesson to triple check before flashing. Any other ideas?

K8N Neo2 plat, no post issue cont'd.

Hi its me again, the guy with the intermittent "no post" k8n neo2 plat.
Loaded the 1b3 beta the other day, again 1 day later the box would not post, as usual no
indication on the D-bracket, just one flash of the keyboard, the fans span one half round.
Since it could run for 1month plus with 1a3 beta BIOS(no usb2.0 (I could not wait any longer wanted usb2.0 so I flashed to a newer bios)),
start thinking it could be something between these latter full versions and this.
Then saw a thread on the web about someone having a Winnie that his box also has issues when swapping for latter
version than 1.5, with 1.5 his plat run fine. Go figure.
So for the time being I switched it to v1.5 bios, lets see how long it holds.
oh btw, the CMOS clear "no effect" seem to be avoided, by unplugging every external
peripheral prior to doing the cmos clear.

The Led display from your D-Bracket indicates it is stopping when it tries to initialise the floppy drive. You don't have one. No A+ course needed, just hook up your floppy or disable it in the BIOS. I have no floppy drive (I have no need) so have it disabled. Probably best to hook up all relevant devices that will enable a working machine. The BIOS is probably halting when it can't initialise a device. There would be no point in it proceeding if it doesn't have all devices needed for a bootable machine...

Freezing issues with K8N Neo2 Plat & 6800 gt

Well I get random freezing during games. Sometimes it freezes for 5-10 seconds then comes back, while other times it just freezes and the sound comes back but not the game.
I had this problem when I first upgraded.

Now I first posted my problem a while ago and someone told me to try chaning the HT to 4x instead of 5x. So I did and it worked. It worked for a few weeks and now the problems have come back.
Any Ideas?

Along with the above issues, I've also found that a lot of my gaming probs with the 6800 are due to it being a "bandwidth hog" & it's latency needs to be adjusted lower to enable the other devices on the PCI bus (i.e. sound card) to get enough bandwidth to function properly. This isn't noticeable until you start some heavy gaming with a lot going on at once...
If your game ever practically chugs to a halt when a lot of sounds are being produced, this is the main problem. Here's a way & some notes on how to deal with it. Just like every "tweak" though, it's not guaranteed to work for everyone but I got noticeable benefits from it.
- D/L (I got it @ guru3D) PCI Latency Tool & give the "Read Me" a quick once-over. Write down the values for your devices, in case you need/want to change 'em back. Most items are well labeled - the 6800 & your sound card will be what you are most interested in. I wouldn't mess with the rest of 'em, as they deal with low level system items that are best left alone. Unless you are truly an Uber Geek!
- The latency for my 6800 listed as a massive 248 clks! For some reason, I've read that ATI cards don't default at such a large value, which might explain why people don't seem to have as many performance issues with 'em. Anyhow lower the 6800 to a more "reasonable" value, like 128 or 64. 64 seemed to work best for me.
- Save the settings, reboot & test it out. You can experiement with the sound card latency too, in order to find what works best for you, but I wouldn't set it at less than it's default value (32).

Hi, I'm having trouble
Just purchased an MSI k8n neo2 plat mobo with an amd 64 3000+ and finally got her all setup... well minus the geforce 6600 gt arriving tomorrow and I still need to figure out what I'll do as far as memory goes. Ah but I forget myself... the problem at hand is this; I am unable to boot the system and the d-bracket indicates its current status is "Processor initialization..." Then nothing. Blank screen.

1)I'd go further than shturmovik in your 12v amps requirement you need at least 24a especially with your new graphic card.

New K8N NEO2 PLAT. and SC-939 3200+ help needed...

I have just upgraded my system with K8N Neo2 Plat. and sc-939 3200+ A64 Cpu.
There are several issues I need to resolve which are:
1- Although I change from BIOS the settings for AGP to 4x8x and enable fast writes, I still cant see them turned on from the Catalyst Control Center. Everything is greyed out what can I do? They all used to be on and agp was 8x with my K7N2 Delta board....
2- Although I installed the original drivers from the MSI CD, I couldn't get one of the network prts to install. Realtek installed OK. But other one is defined by the device manager as standart network adapter. What can I do?
3- I am brand new to A64 system so I do not know what setting to use from BIOS can you help me out, for instance there are values for HT such as x3 x4 x5 mine is set to x5? what is this? should I enable cool and quiet, I am not intended to do overclocking. Can you give me some tips for best performance?

Make sure your bios is up to date: version 1.5. Look at the sticky threads and use the information to enable hidden bios features. Disable ATI/NV speedup in the bios. Uninstall your drivers and reinstall. If the information is still greyed out, download the free version of Sandra here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/ and check the module under video system information. This will tell you if fast writes are enabled and your AGP setting. Leave the HT(hyper-transport) set to 5X unless you plan on oc'ing, if you do oc then may find you'll need to reduce it to 4X or 3X. Try downloading the latest driver for your network from the MSI website. Right click the device in device manager and select update, select specific location then "don't look...I'll choose", direct it to the file where you've unpacked the correct driver and then update.

K8N neo2 Plat problem with Inno3D 7600GS AGP, help pls...

Just got the new Inno3d 7600GS AGP card, after installed & while booting up my monitor keep going off and on then suddenly just went off...sometime system freeze when it reach deskstop.
Sometime lucky enough it will still there and the next few minute the system just freeze.
After several attemp & no choice, I unplug the power to the graphic card and the problem still exist.
I am using a HEC 350W PSU.
I change back to my old ati9200se card & no problem at all.
I changed to skyhawk 430W still same problem. even I boot up to safe mode still the same. Only time the monitor wouldn't go off untill it pass the winXP logo then the problem appear.
I got no problem when go to CMOS as well.
Already perform uninstall previous video driver, update latest nforce driver....all no use.

A few K8N Neo2 Plat problems

Just getting this new rig up and going K8N Neo2 Plat with a 3200 Winchester 90nm CPU and 1GB (2x512) OCZ PC3200 Plat. rev2. My memory is not showing to be running in Dual Channel. and Sandra bandwidth is horrible to say the least. I have flashed to the latest bios that MSI has on the site, are their any better ones? I see some people running different versions of 1.3 bios, where are they? I have two Barracuda 80Gb S-ATA set up on #3-4 Sata connectors too in Raid (0).

Skeen, Duke is right. I have the same memory and you MUST use slot 1&2 for dual channel support. Look inthe manual on the page about memory. It gives 2 charts. The first one is for dual channel memory and the second one is for normal memory. Also I did a Sandra test that is somwhere here in the forums where I posted the results with 1&2 and 3&4 and 1&2 was slightly faster. Use them (the ones closest to the CPU).

I gotta give a shout out for the Corsair Value Select series also. I ran it for years in cheap systems I built for friends without any problems at all. Newegg has it pretty cheap (under $100 bucks).

Unidentified 10-12Pins inside the K8N Neo2 Plat

Hi guys,
I've just finished setting up my K8N Neo2 Plat into the case with the jumpers and cables etc. And there's sometihng interesting I discovered.
There is a set of jumpers or Pins, just above the JDB1 [D-Bracket pins] that seems to be unused and un-labelled in the Instruction manual.
The PCB has it labelled as JPC1 with a small arrow pointing downwards.
I searched thru the manual, and no sign of what it's used for.
Anyone else noticed this when they installed their board jumpers and pins?

LOL..you can pm to syar as he has the modded bios for 1C as i'm using his bios as nice and easy. But like what qyx say corecentre messing all you setting including the bios and stay away any DOT, C&Q if you're ocing your system. Better used manual way to set it in the bios. GD luck.

K8N Neo2 Plat - Is 1.8 still the best bios?

Just bought new gfx card - Sapphire X1600Pro 256MB AGP - for my K8N Neo2 Plat setup (see sig for the rest).
I was getting 3dmark03 scores of 4400 to start with, then it has upped slowly to just over 6000 thanks to the various BIOS experts setup guides. I haven't found the Shgift F2 menu - is that only in later BIOSes ?
I'm only at BIOS 1.3 due to it's amazing stability with this setup, but now of course, I'm wondering if upping to, say, 1.8, might help improve things further ??

The 1.8 bios is very good unless you are planning to run/update to an X2 dual core , then you will need a newer one for sure.
There is nothing faster and better with 1C , EasyBios 1C and my modded have better default values set in it ,EasyBios
have also better reworked layout (more user friendly) , but if you don't have any problems with your current one I would stick with it .
It's almost the same with my Neo1 system (Ms-7030) , I have this frozen at the 1.5b6 bios - with the Newcastle cpu in it
it actually works worse with the latest BIOS
