K8N NEO2 Platinum Power off issue

More often than not lately, when I shut windows down, it just hangs at the powering off screen and does not actually power off. I have push the power button to complete shut down. Using Syar's easy Bios 1.C. Anyone with a fix? Thanks

Yes, that is correct, I have had this problem before on another system where the swap file was on another partition, but not the case here. Swap file is on C:\

MSi K8N Neo2 platinum: Power problem?

Hello everybody, I'm from vietnam
I have bought a K8N Neo2 Platinum with AMD3000+ (venice, E6) + PSU Acbel 300W (I thibk that it' enough, because I just use this machine for everyday co). But I have a bug:
I shutdown my PC, but I don't disconnect it from the electricity, then, i can start it again.

K8N Neo2 Platinum RAID Boot Issue...

Hi everyone,
I am running two WD 120gb drives in single-drive mode. Everything is working fine. My issue is that every time I boot, I have to wait nearly 10 seconds for a message that says 'Detecting Array' just before it loads WinXP. The thing is, I have RAID disabled in the BIOS. How do I get rid of this annoying boot message?
Any help would be appreciated!

The problem what I'm getting is when I'm try to burn a DVD or CD... my PC shuts like you unplugged your power (not restarting)
first I thought something wrong with my DVD burner then I tried with a new one(had a ASUS one and switched to LITE-on).. but still happening.. I have update the BIOS v1.3 as well..but didn't do any changes.. My DVD-RW connected to IDE controller.. that's only thing controlled by IDE.. don know how to fix this... I'm sure it can't be the PSU.. I changed my PSU 500W to 750W because of this matter.. I guess something wrong with the IDE controller.. only MSI can fix this... I'm waiting for a reply from them ... Msi k8n neo2 platinum power probs

ok i dont own this board but looking for help for a friend....
is there a recommended min required PSU for these boards? im used to DFI's which there is min requirements... hes gone thorugh 3 PSU;s each time works for a bout a week then he has to unplug everything and hope it will boot. any suggestions? if you need more info let me know. thanx in advance.

The total wattage of Power Supply is not as important as many think it is. The Amps on each Voltage Rail is the most important factor for a good Power Supply.
To find the right Dimension for a power supply, you have to know how many devices will be attached.
And if you are going to overclock this will change again......cause you will need more Power.
I recommend a 450W Power Supply with at least 25A or better 30A on the 12V rail. Do not choose a dual rail Power supply, better is one strong 12V rail, than 2 weak ones.

K8N NEO2 Platinum Nvidia Ethernet Issue

My On-board Nvidia Ethernet controller is detected by Windows in the device manager, however when I go to view Network Connections there is no entry for the Nvidia Ethernet. When I ran ipconfig it returned the following for the connection:

K8N Neo2 platinum & 750g sata RAID issue

Hi there I have an issue with booting up. I have 1 200g Western digital HDD where windows is installed and I have 1 further 500g WD drive which were both fine until I decided to buy 2 samsung 750g HDD's to run in RAID. I have installed the drives in RAID and formatted but I am having a problem with booting.
If I reset, the computer keeps rebooting at the detection stage, powers off and keeps doing it over and over. Sometimes it will go through if you wait long enough. When I turn the power on and off it will go through the detection stage no worries every time but then at the XP loading screen it will freeze there. Sometimes it goes through and I will boot into XP fine and other times I can't get in.
I have the latest Bios 7025V1D but I am wondering if this issue is bios related because of the 750g size... The problem has only started since I have installed the two 750g HDD's in RAID. Does this bios version support 750g HDD's? Is there an updated BIOS to fix this problem somewhere?
I have 2gig of ram, 3500+ processor, latest Nforce3 drivers from Nvidia, RAID drives on sata ports/3/4, 500gig WD on sata port 1, 200 gig WD is HDD is IDE, Windows SP2 and all updated, ummmmmm everything else is fine I'm fairly sure.
I had a few troubles installing the RAID drivers because windows didn't want to accept the drivers I downloaded from here and did not want to accept the drivers in windows. I ended up getting it the drives to come on-line through the use of START/NVIDIA corp/ NVIDIA RAID program (cant remember the name, typing this on another computer).
Any ideas would be greatly and very muchly appreciated!

Ok My PSU is: WideTECH 550w, +3.3v=33a, +5v=36a, +12v=25a, -12v=1.0a, +5vsb=2.5a.
I am only running 3 HDD's at the moment, the 2 750's and the 1 200gig. I have left the other 500gig unplugged until I get this problem sorted. I don't have a cd rom plugged in or a floppy. I only connect them when I need to because this computer is setup to be a storage server and I use my other pc for anything dvd related etc. The only other thing which is chewing power is the video card which is an old 6800gt ultra. So basically the power issue was fine until I installed the two extra HDD's and as I have unplugged the 500gig for the time being its only really one extra HDD which shouldn't be an issue. Oh I have two 80mm case fans using the psu aswell.
As for my other specs: I have 1 gig of Geil dual channel RAM 2x512 sticks, CPU=AMD Athlon64 3500+, MB is MSI K8n Neo2 Platinum, Vid card= Leadtek geforce 6800gt ultra 256 agp, You know about my HDD's but here they are again= 1x 200g WD caviar IDE, 1x 500g WD caviar sata(1 I think), 2 x 750g samsung sata (2 I think), OS = XP Home SP2 with all lasest automatic updates, latest BIOS etc etc etc....
My windows is a legit copy as well.
You mentioned putting my HDD's into sata 1 mode... I was of the opinion that my motherboard does not support sata2 anyway and would not allow them to run in anything but sata1?? If I did want to change the sata mode where would I do this anyway?

Nothing has ever been overclocked on this system.
Everything is plugged into a Belkin Surgemaster powerbar.

O.k., fine. I'll buy a Enermax 535W EG565P-VE FMA 24P (115/230 VAC) power supply.
I just plug it into the mainboard (nothing else). Hit the power button . . .
The CPU fan spins for half a second, and then nothing.
Did my motherboard just suddenly die for no reason?
Any suggestions?

Pull the AC plug from PSU and set cmos in clear position with battery removed for atlest 20 minutes perhaps longer .
Then try to post the system barebone .
Just cpu,1 pcs memory in slot 1 , gfx card , and keyboard in PS2.
No usb devices at all including card reader and no pci cards harddisks or cdoms/dvd/floppy.
It could also be caused by a short or a malfunctioning fan connected to mobo.
Try to disconnect all case fans from mobo headers if you have any connected to additional fan holders.
The chipset fan can also be disconnected momentarily just to see if it posts.
If none of this helps , replace cmos battery and try again .

News - BIG PROBLEM - MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum - DOES NOT POWER!!!

Hi to everyone.
I'm a proudly owner of a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum that in one year gave me no problem until yesterday morning.
I used the computer in the night before and when I finished I turned it off and I went to bed.
Yesterday morning I found the power led blinking (like if the system was in standby), and there was no way to turn the PC on.
I even took off the battery for more than 12 hours and I left only minimal components installed:
the video card (Gainward GeForce 6800),
the psu (Antec TruePower 550W),
1 x 512 MB Ram Crucial Ballistix,
and I checked them into another computer and they work perfectly.
I tried shorting the MB power switch pins with a screwdriver and I've even tried to power on the system without the Memory or the Video Card... I've tried everything that came across my mind with no efforts!!!!
Every time I give power to the MB appens only that the power led starts blinking, but pressing the button the PC doesn't turn on.
PLEASE HELP ME... I really don't know what else to do!!!

I left only these things inside my computer in the hope that it would turn on... it did not work. I tested each component but the MB, and they work perfectly.

All parts have been tested: CPU/RAM/GFX/PSU/HD/DVD, just not the MOBO ?
Checked if the MOBO is shorting in the case ?
Have you tried using the reset switch as power, on/off switch ? I've seen before when the power switch stops working (lose/bad wire busted spring) after swapping reset to power, then the system turned on. Worth a try, as sending it back to USA won't be cheap. If its over 1 year old it mite not be covered by the re-seller and or MSI. Best to check this out as law and warranty is different from country to country.

Which power supply for k8n neo2 Platinum

I need to buy a new power supply for my computer. With the ATX12V v2.2 standard and ATX12V 2.01 and the "no -5v on new psu's" issue I'm at a loss as to what to look for. I have looked and cannot find what "standard" (is that even the correct term?) the k8n neo2 supports.
My main requirement is that the psu be 550-650 watts and have modular cables. I know someday I will have to upgrade my system to PCI-E and modern components, so I would like a PSU that would work now and in the future.
Could someone point me in the right direction?

Why do you need 550-650W or is that just because of future needs? I would suggest one of the Corsair +12V single rail modular PSU's if you insist on the modular design. Check newegg for what they have for modular in the Corsair lineup. I'm sure you're aware that their price is considerably higher than the non-modular. K8 MB's that needed -5V are the early ones that had Creative Sound Blaster onboard audio.

That's what it is now but if you don't need it in a big hurry you can probably wait a while and get for the same price but with free shipping.
Edit: Gee, Ultra with blown caps, I just happen to have a xPRO 800W that blew some caps, repaired it and started going bad again and then got my TX650 to replace it. Got it for $70 after rebate (which I haven't received yet) by waiting for the right price, rebate and free shipping. VX550 would have been good enough but at the time I got the TX650 at a lower price.

K8N Neo2 Platinum + Winchester 3200.. flabbergasting FSB issue

OK, here goes the issue:
I just got a brand new K8N Neo2 Platinum - Bios 1.4 and a box 3200 Winchester CPU. The crazy thing is the FSB - it is set to 200 Mhz in the Bios, but in real-time it happens to be something like 200.95 Mhz. No idea how to fix this - as a result the CPU goes at 2010 Mhz, while obiviously it should run at 2000Mhz. There are also some stability problems, like random hangups in Windows. My ram is 2x512 Kingston HyperX PC4000.

Sound Issues /w K8N Neo2 Platinum

Hello, I have a K8N Neo2 Platinum and I am having trouble wit the sound. I have installed the drivers on the nForce CD, but I cannot hear anything.
Any suggestions?

You should list what opperating system you're using aswell as the driver version that's giving you trouble, someone might spot a problem and be able to help you more easily, for instance if you're using XPx64 the drivers for XP wont work.
Maybe try downloading the latest version from Here or Here.
Also check in Device Mannager, does it say that there's a problem with your sound device or does it say it's working properly ?

K8N Neo2 Platinum Ordered - Advice for a noob please

I am a relative noob to building P.C's - done a few P4 based systems before but this will be my first Athlon based. This systems primary use will be gaming. I have the following on order (should be with me next week) : -

I have some 'noobish' questions - apologies for my ignorance : -
1) Memory - Will my memory be okay ? Should I ditch it and buy some Corsair DDR400 (which everyone else seems to have!). Will performance suffer if I stick with the DDR 333 ? Do I need to adjust settings in BIOS regarding memory timing ? (I only picked up on this from reading through other posts on this board, and am totally clueless on 'timing'- Ive never needed to adjust timing on any previous PC's....!)
2) Sound Card - will I be better off sticking with the onboard sound on the MSI K8N neo 2 ? Or for best performance do I go with the SB LIve ? (god its a nightmare trying to get updated drivers for this card), Would I get a noticable performance increase buying an Audigy 2?
3) Vcore / other power issues - Reading this forum Im kinda scared by many posts along the lines of "..for stability I need to change my memory voltage to xx-V" or "...for a stable system I needed to change my Vcore to xx-V". Will I need to change the Bios default values on this system just to get it to run stably??
4) CPU FAN - Are AMD stock fans any good ? My Hyper 48 is quite highly rated....
5) Im completely new to SATA drives, but Ive printed off the very useful install guide on this site (which I intend to use). Is there anything I need to look out for concerning adding my IDE drive also.
I think thats about it just now - if anyone can see any other potential problems with my specs then please let me know. Im really not trying to be negative / pessimistic - after all the reason I have went for this motherboard is that it is rated as one of the best. Im just a bit paranoid that the dreaded B.S.O.D awaits me!
On a more positive note - does anyone have similar system specs they use for gaming ? How well does HL2 / Doom3 / Farcry etc fly J ? I cant wait !

K8N Neo2 Platinum Beep code

Anyone know what all the beeps mean for a K8N Neo2 Platinum? Sometimes when I power on my system there is a long beep and beeps on and off. Anyone know what the error is exactly? I tihnk it is a VGA or RAM seating error but not sure as the manual doesn't say what the different types of beeps mean.

I had that same beep code when I first setup my new rig. had one long beep, pause, one long beep, pause (rinse, lather, repeat). Come to find out it was a RAM issue. Appearently the board has some freak quirk that it wont boot with 2 pieces of RAM the first time. After the first boot, I put in my second chip and no problem.
