K8n Neo2 Platinum UDMA Problem

dear friends
when activated UDMA in IDE configuracion form BIOS, the Windows Do not Start, blue screen and reset.
I probe reinstall windows xp sp2 and when finish of copied files form cd to HD, going to blue scren and reset
when disabled UDMA, wherever, set to PIO MODE, all well but very low access to disk
help me

I have never had any problem with this . This was in the old days .
So i don't feel i need to come up with benchmarks as evidence .
If in doubt , one should try it self.
Though the devices has to share the bus so that commands issued to one device
has to be finished before working with the other .
And btw on my NF7-S rig with two cdrom writer/dvd-reader one is running udma2
33MB/s and the other Multiword 2 dma mode 16,7MB/s .
Different speed on two devices at the same ide controller.
Independent Master/Slave Device Timing: Hard disk controllers on modern systems support running the master and slave device at different speeds, if one supports faster transfer modes than the other. Some systems, however, especially older ones, do not. If you are using two devices with radically different maximum transfer rates, and the chipset doesn't support independent timing, you will slow down the faster device to the speed of the slower one.
http://www.pcguide.com
Ref. example "example if u have 2 HDDs on the same chl (IDE0) one drive is ATA 100 (c:)and the other is ATA 66 (d:)or the other way around. If i copy files from c: to d: what would my copy speed be?
Read speed of C will in theory be ata100 (but is limited by the drive itself of course)
Write speed on D will in theory be ata66 .
Say you have C D E F , E&F on ide1 and E is ata100 F is ATA66 .
Copying from C to E will be 100 on both rwad & write and will give better performance as the commands will work with the drives uniterupted during copy.
Copying to a ATA66 drive will of course limit the copying speed as it will write slower than the ata100 can read.
But 66MB/s and 100MB/s is only theoretical numbers as no single drive today
can read/write that fast anyway to the disk platters , only to from their buffers
it would be possible.
If i have gigabit network card and switch and a 1024Mb DSL connection i can not
copy from a ftp server on the net with gigabit speed either .
Same principal .

    1 x Maxtor 200gb SATA
    1 x Maxtor 200gb IDE
    ATI Radeon x800 pro 256mb
I have a K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard, the problem is that when I try to add in another 512mb stick the system won't even boot up. I have tried other brands and amounts but still to no avail.
I boot the system up and the monitor won't even switch on, but if I take out the 512 stick it works fine.
    Any ideas?

    Not quite.
    Use the color codes .
If you have matched sticks in density (size) and timings (spd data) you can run dual channel.
This means having one stick in memory channel 1 ( green ) and another in memory channel2 (purple )
Theese are physically wired next to eachother on the motherboard , from cpu and upwards..
You can not do that , with that mismatched modules the cpu can't initialize it's memory controller .
So your only choice is to run two modules with single memory channel config .
Use the colorcodes to make sure you use signgle memory channel config (since you have mismatched sticks and the A64 memory controller cant run those in dual mode)
So your choice is to use either both green slots or both of the purple ones .
Place the one module with the higest cas rating (slowest) in the green slot with the lowest slot number (marked on the board) .
And the other stick on the green slot that remains .

    Hello,
In the BIOS you must set the FSB:DRAM ratio to 1:1.
Set the HTT (hypertransport Ratio to x4)
Set the CPU ratio to x4 (just too see if it will work.)
    Set the FSB to 250Mhz
    Set the Vcore to 1.45v.
Set the memory timings to SPD (or default values for DDR500)
Set the memory voltage to 2.7v, 2.75v or 2.8v.
    Save and exit
Then let it boot from the memtest bootdisk.
Use memtest to see if it is ok, test for a long time, over 1 hour.
    http://www.memtest.org/download/1.55.1/memtest86+-1.55.1.floppy.zip
Tight timings and high FSB is even better
I have the same problem I can go as high as fsb 219 without tweaking anything but the FSB. My system is about the same only my ram is ddr 400 so what should my mem volt and timg should be set to?

    Hello everybody, I'm from vietnam
I have bought a K8N Neo2 Platinum with AMD3000+ (venice, E6) + PSU Acbel 300W (I thibk that it' enough, because I just use this machine for everyday co). But I have a bug:
I shutdown my PC, but I don't disconnect it from the electricity, then, i can start it again.
I shutdown my PC, but I disconnect it from the electricity, then, i cannot start it again- the system starts, the fans move, but just that. i have to clear CMOS, then, the PC can run normal.
I have flash BIOS to the newest (V1.B), but it can;t help!
Thanks a lot for your aid!

i think you need a new PSU.

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum install problem

Hey guys - just got my new Neo2 Platinum board and my Athlon 64 FX55 in. Unfortunately - its not working to my liking. I hooked everything up properly, installed my vapochill and had everything connected. I turned it on, vapochill powered up, began to cool to the negatives. At -10c computer turns on to nothing but 2 second beeps every 2 seconds. So, i turn it off, figuring it may be the memory, take it out of CHB and put it in CHA. Turn it on, works fine. I get into the bios and it sees 1gig of ram, yet only recognizes single channel and says its at 133mhz and at extremely loose timings. The memory i have is G.Skill PC4400 rated at 2-2-2-5 at PC3200 and 2.5-3-3-7 at PC4400. Samsung TCCD chips - i've seen many reviews with this board and it has worked perfectly. Either way, i went to try and lower the timings and it rebooted and got nothing but beeps again. So i turn it off, attempted to reset CMOS - and turned it on. Vapochill cools to -10, then tries to turn on the rest of hte computer. At that stage, it can't turn the rest of the computer on. I tried even unplugging power from the vapochill and hooking up the mobo as if it were a regularly cooled computer - no boot. I then tried to jump the PSU to make sure i didn't blow it - it turned on. Its an OCZ PowerStream 520W and the green light came on and fans were spinning. So right now i'm stuck in the mud and i'm really anxious to get this rig up and running. Please let me know what to do!! Thanks!

I have found this board to be  with low latency memory.  My CAS 2.0-2-2-5 -1T only runs at CAS 3.0-3-3-10 2T

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum RAID0 Problem

    I have the following configuration.
      MSI Neo2 Platnum Mother Board
      AMD Athlon 64 3500+ CPU
eVGA nVidia 6800 GT video card
Creative  SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card
      2 SeaGate 120GB SATA HD in a RAID0 configuration
      Plextor PX-712SA DVD combo drive
      2x512MB Corsair ValueRam (2.5 latency)
      Floppy Drive.
      Antec 480 W Power Supply
      Win XP Pro SP2.
      Norton Internet security
      Norton Antivirus
      McAfee AntiSpyware
I can install and run Windows.  Unfortunately  after
a few days of use, or a defrag, when the computer boots
it will not move past the Win XP screen to the welcome screen.
Generally it requires a reboot with the Win CD to the
recovery console.  A chkdsk /r is always required.  The
chkdsk goes well until 50%, then it moved slowly through
to 75%, only to repeat the 50% to 75% again at an even slower
rate.  After this Windows will reboot into safe mode, then regular mode.
After this, more often then not, I will get a nvraidservice.exe error on
startup.  In addition, the intrusion protection on Norton Internet
Security cannot be set, even by the administrator!
At this point, a chkdsk /f or chkdsk /r is required after every other
shutdown.  After a day or two of operation in this mode, data is usually
lost, and windows must be reinstalled.
I have been running my computer like this for two sold weeks!  Please
    help me.

After running the Seagate diagnostics, one drive had 2 bad sectors, the other was perfect.  Seagate Tech support (who's email was much more congenial than MSI tech I might add) said that I had to do a Low level format of the drive and reinstall (sigh).
So long and the short, my hard drives are good.  So I'll follow Seagate's advice, and do the install dance again.  I am undecided whether I will flash the bios before or after the install.  It doesn't look like the RAID bios is any different, but I should probably flash before I install.  Anyway, after the install, I'll follow my plan again.  I assume that raid will break and I will be RMAing the mobo.

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum USB problem

I just got this board a little bit ago and love it but non of the USBs work. I plugged my joystick in which worked for a bit till I unplugged it but now it just comes up as unknown device. I have also tried to connect my mp3 player and gamepad but nothing except and windows message of unknown device. Also the usb ports that you connect to the board wont work or my front usbs. Now non of these devices needed drivers on my last pc so im lost. Iv tried to install the usb drivers from the cd but it only works with sp1.

I don't know whether to laugh at this or scratch my head about all the times I get shocked by static electricty in the wintertime. Does anybody believe this?
    "Static Issues
The product is good for the price, but it's got some really frustrating issues that only MS tech support knows about, but I wanted to let you all know. I called tech support 'cause I wanted to return what I thought was a bad joystick. When I talked to Evan, he told me that the base causes some USB static issues. He suggested that you place it on something anti-static like a mousepad. (I am gonna try an anti-static bag like you get when you buy computer hardware)"
If your computer stops recognizing it...
    unplug the joystick.
    Shut your computer down.
    Disconnect your computer's power source.
Plug your stoystick in and out a few times then leave it plugged in.
    Reconnect the Computer's power.
    Restart your computer.
That should release the static charge.

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum 54G BIOS problem

    I recently bought a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum-54G mainboard with W7025NMS v1.3  092204 revision of BIOS.
AMD Athlon64 3000+ 939 is installed on the mainboard, with 2x512 GEIL PC3200 memory modules in dual channel configuration working on default frequency of 200MHz. CPU is recognized correctly as AMD Athlon64 3000+ on startup.
Mainboard’s BIOS seems to be corrupted. In Cell Menu options, in the upper left part of the screen (printed blue) are processor and DDR working timings:
Current CPU Clock 1810MHZ, Current DDR Clock 200MHz.
Aggressive Timings and Dynamic Overclocking values are [Disabled] (processor working on its defaulf settings); Spread Spectrum is [Disabled] while all DRAM Configuration settings are set to [Auto].
While entering HT frequency settings, (locked to [x5])  there are no other values to select – empty, and there is no way to leave it (ESC doesn’t help, the only thing possible to do is to reset the computer by pressing the Reset button on the chassis), but  the HT frequency settings were enabled when I loaded Fail-Safe settings, offering [1x], [1.5x], [2x], [2.5x], [3x], [4x], [5x].
Adjust CPU Ratio settings offer only [StartUp], [x4]~[x9] values, but as I understood by reading the manual there should be [StartUp], [x4]~[x20].
CPU Voltage, Memory Voltage and AGP Voltage are set to default.
CPU-Z, as well as SiSoft Sandra 2004 and SiSoft Sandra 2005 and MSI CORE CELL show that processor works at a core speed ~1005MHz, showing multiplier locked on x5.0 and HTT locked at ~200MHz, while the voltage is ~1.05V!
I downloaded the latest BIOS revision (v1.4), did the BIOS flash, but the problem remains!
    Anybody, help!

AMD64 CPOU's have a lock on CPU ratios which varies according to the specification of the chip. therefore the multiplier available in your bios stops at the max multiplier allowed by amd for your cpu.
As an example i'm running a 3200 754 which has a maximum muliplier of 11 so that is the max i see in bios.

  • Problem on boot MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum

I am an italian lover of MSI motherboards.
After I bought a MSI KT3 Ultra Aru, then MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR and now I have a K8N Neo2 Platinum.
    My hardware are:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    Athlon 64 3200 Winchester
Corsair XMS 1024 TWINX 3200 PLL
Maxtor Diamond Plus 9 80 Gb
    Asus Radeon 9600XT.
The problem is that at the power on the bios don't start. The LED on D-Bracket are three green and one red. On the manual this error are written:
    Inizializing Video Interface
This will start detecting CPU clock, checking type of video onboard. Then, detect and initialize the video adapter.
This problem is frequent for my motherboard. However not always.
I attend your answer for this problem.
Thank you for all and for my english school.

    Hi Italiano,
    Welcome to the forum.
Have you details of your power supply. please show Maximum 3.3v,5v & 12v.
These are usually on the side of the power unit.
    try:-
    1) Enter bios Cell Menu - HT change from 5 ---> 4 using +/- keys. Save & exit.
If it still doesn't boot try:-
    2) Re-inserting your Asus Radeon 9600XT. Sometimes they don't go in correctly.
    3) See if you can boot with just 1 memory module in slot 1.

  • K8N-Neo2 Platinum pauses for 25 sec at boot, nvatabus.sys the problem?

    All,
After POSTing normally and starting to load Windows XP, my system halts at the Windows XP splash screen for about 25 seconds. Nothing happens, no disk activity or anything, the system just sits there.
I used Microsoft's Bootvis utility to see what was happening. It turns out that the nvatabus.sys driver consumes 100% CPU at boot for 25 seconds then the system continues to boot normally. Does anyone else see anything like this?
I am running the latest nForce drivers from MSI. The driver in question:
NVIDIA nForce3 Serial ATA Controller 2.6
    Driver Date 6/3/2004
    c:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\nvatabus.sys 5.10.2600.0446
    Windows XP SP1
I have a RAID1 of two 160 GB SATA drives. The mirror is healthy and working fine.
After booting the system is rock-solid stable, no problems there. It's just this unexplained pause at boot. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

ok check it out guy's this thing drove me insane all night last night and most of today. I was ready to return everything and give up. But alas all is not lost. Here is the rundown on what i just did.
    My Equipment:
    Athlon 64 3800+(w/ stock fan)
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Socket 939
    2X512 Corsair TWINX1024-3200XLPRO ( with the cool led's )
    2 SATA HD (1 Maxtor Diamond10 300 GB w/ 16mb cache, 1 Segate 160GB w/8mb cache)
    PP&C 425 ATX Deluxe
    Radeon 9700 Pro ( cat 4.8 )
    Audigy2 ZS
    Sony Floppy
    Sony 8x52x52x32 DVD Rewrite
I have been reading and reading just like all you guy's. On a few websites i would pick up bits and pieces on what to try. Heres what i did. Upon Boot up i entered the bios. I then went to Cell Soft and adjusted my timings for my memory. I was at 2.5 not 2.75. I then set my speed down to 166. Exited and restarted. Big mistake everything ri=uns terrible slow and my expensive DDR 400 memory was showing up correctly at 333. Rebooted again entered the bios. reset my speed to 400. Then set the Overclock feature to manual. Set my timings at 2,2,5,2 200 and 2.75 volts. After saving settings and exiting I then turned off the computer. As per some other suggestions I moved my Audigy2 to the bottom most pci slot the one above the orange slot. I moved my memory to slots 2 and 4. I moved my SATA to slots 3 and 4. I rebooted went into the bios again and setup all my voltages. CPU was Auto, AGP was max yellow setting. Memory still at 2.75. I disabled the onboard serial and parrallel ports. Rebooted
    Fearing the worst,
5 seconds, 10 seconds, windows screen loging prompt. There was nothing wrong at all. It rebooted effortlessly. It re found my Audigy card and wanted driver but that was it. I am going to reboot a few more times and then run sisandra to test. I hope some of this will help you. I post in a few after some of those reboots.

  • Reboot problem with MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and 250 GB SATA HDD

I'm having a "reboot" problem with my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum. After turning my system on it will run without any problems, until I reboot. After a reboot it will always hang after the initial windows-bootscreen. The HDD-light will remain on. If, instead of going into Windows XP SP2, I try to enter the BIOS after a reboot (DEL) the system will also hang (blank screen with blinking cursor).
It started doing this after I installed the Maxtor 250 GB SATA disk. Before, I didn't have problems rebooting. If I disconnect the Maxtor drive I can reboot and enter BIOS and Windows each and every time. Reconnecting the Maxtor 250 GB SATA drive will return the reboot problem. I always have to use the power swith to get a working system again. It's not enough to do a hard reset (this has the same effect as rebooting).
Here are the details of my system:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (BIOS 1.B)
    Athlon 64 3200+ (Winchester, 2 Ghz, 512 KB cache, stepping DH-D0)
    2 x Kingston KVR400X64C25/512, 512 MB, DDR, PC3200 (2,5-3-3-8 T1)
Asus Radeon AX800 Pro (256 MB)
    PSU Antec Sonata 380W
HDD Maxtor 80Gb ATA (6Y080P0, Pri Master)
    HDD Seagate 250Gb SATA (ST3200822AS)
HDD Maxtor 250Gb SATA (6V250F0 - jumpered in SATA150 mode, the mobo wouldn't work with the drive in SATA300-mode)
Aopen COM5232/AAH Pro CD-Writer ATA (Sec Master)
BenQ DW1640 DVD-Writer ATA (Sec Slave)
P.S. The NVidia IDE-drivers are NOT installed. System is not overclocked.

Thank you for all the replies. Upgrading to the latest Nvidia IDE-drivers did not fix my problem. Moving to other SATA-ports did not help either. Upgrading the mobo's BIOS is not really an option (I'm using one version before the most recent and there isn't anything in the fixlist of the latest BIOS).
Now I've contacted Maxtor for (hopefully) a new firmware.

  • K8n neo2 platinum problems

ok guys I've been looking all over the internet and cannot find any answers to my problem.
I have an MSI K8N neo2 platinum running easybios
    AMD Opteron 146
    2gb Ballistixs pc4000
    30gb maxtor
    120gb maxtor
    2x dvd rw drives
    nvidia 6800 agp
    sound blaster live 24bit
I run windows x64 and after flashing my bios form 1.6 (I think) to 1b I kept getting errors e.g. "ROM cannot invoke" (or something), and primarily "disk read error", now the disks show up in the bios, they show up in a windows install but it just won't boot from them. I have flashed to easybios and the rom error went away but the disk read one was still there. I am now reinstaling windows x64 but would like to know how to fix such a problem if it were to happen again. Both my drives are IDE and are on the IDE0 cable with master and slave correctly set.
Also the temperature readings for my processor are 42 degrees celcius when everything is at stock and I have a zalman 9500 heatsink fan on it running at full speed. This is obviously wrong - is there any way to fix this?
    Thanks
    Daven

I has the exact issue with my board, except it was with the SATA drives. I flashed with e few BIOS', and the newest one that worked correctly was 1.8
If it was me, I would reflash to BIOS 1.8
    Post back with your results.
Also, even though you are installing Windows again, it will most likely corrupt your installation, as it did mine, twice, before I figured out the problem.

  • News - BIG PROBLEM - MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum - DOES NOT POWER!!!

    Hi to everyone.
I'm a proudly owner of a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum that in one year gave me no problem until yesterday morning.
I used the computer in the night before and when I finished I turned it off and I went to bed.
Yesterday morning I found the power led blinking (like if the system was in standby), and there was no way to turn the PC on.
I even took off the battery for more than 12 hours and I left only minimal components installed:
the video card (Gainward GeForce 6800),
    the psu (Antec TruePower 550W),
    1 x 512 MB Ram Crucial Ballistix,
and I checked them into another computer and they work perfectly.
I tried shorting the MB power switch pins with a screwdriver and I've even tried to power on the system without the Memory or the Video Card... I've tried everything that came across my mind with no efforts!!!!
Every time I give power to the MB appens only that the power led starts blinking, but pressing the button the PC doesn't turn on.
PLEASE HELP ME... I really don't know what else to do!!!
    Thanks,
    Alberto

    Hi thanks for the answers.
I do have a D-Bracket, but my problem is not that the system does not boot or does not post... my system DOES NOT POWER ON (!!!!), so d-bracket is useless!
When I plug the system power    the only thing that happens is that the power led starts blinking (with the system still in soft-off), and if I press the power switch button nothing happens!
I've the bios for 7025 v1.8 and the settings where for OFF on power-loss ond pressing the button (can't rememeber if it was more than 4 sec) was meant to turn off the computer, but considering that I un-powered the pc more than once without the MB battery the settings should be factory default by now.
I went through the Windows-XP shut-down system, and i could not be an electrical problem as I always used the PC with a pretty good UPS unit.
Right now these are the full specs of my sytem:
    - MB MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum nForce3 Ultra
    - GAINWARD 6800 2600 GLH 256 MB Ram
    - PSU Antec TruPower 550 W
    - CPU AMD64 3500+ core Winchester @11*210 Mhz (this cpu has never overclocked very well)
    - HEATSINK Thermalright XP-90 with a 12 Cm Enermax Fan (CPU temp in always below 55 °C when stressed)
    - 1 x 512 Mb RAM Crucial Ballistix DDR400 optimized for  MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
I left only these things inside my computer in the hope that it would turn on... it did not work. I tested each component but the MB, and they work perfectly.
    Again...
Thanks for you efforts, any help will be appreciated.
    Alberto.
All parts have been tested: CPU/RAM/GFX/PSU/HD/DVD,  just not the MOBO ?
Checked if the MOBO is shorting in the case ?
Have you tried using the reset switch as power, on/off switch ?  I've seen before when the power switch stops working (lose/bad wire busted spring) after swapping  reset to power, then the system turned on. Worth a try, as sending it back to USA won't be cheap. If its over 1 year old it mite not be covered by the re-seller and or MSI. Best to check this out as law and warranty is different from country to country.
    Good Luck
