K8N Neo2 Please Help!!!!

I'm going to buy K8N Neo2 Platinum mainboard and I'm going to use it for Windows 2003 Enterprise Server.
I want to know if the drivers which I get with the mainboard CD are also for Windows 2003 Enterprise Server? And if there is something alse that I need to know when using this mainboard with Windows 2003 Enterprise Server?

The CD - supplied drivers will work...some folks are running the BETA version of Windows64 and Server 2003 with them...when available, I don't see why they cannot also be updated!!!

    Well we now know the motherboard... what about the rest of the components in the computer. When including specs on the powersupplies (post both the 400w and the 480w) include max amps for the 3.3v 5v and 12v rails. This info can be found on a sticker on the side of the PSU.
    Do you have the D-Bracket installed? If so where is it hanging at?

  • Help this noobie with his K8N Neo2 Please!!

    Well uhh, I tried booting up the computer I built, but the monitor won't turn on.  I tried resetting the CMOS header, all the way to the bare system.  My PSU used to be the Thermatake Purepower 480w, but it died on me, so I had to get the Aspire 500w PSU instead.  You think that will fix the problem?  Because the TT PSU had 18 amps, while now aspire is going to give off 34 amps.

    Now I did a check on it, and it says I need a maximum of 346 watts (PSU calculator thing).  Do you think it will turn my monitor on and make it work?
    My DLED is 1=Orange 2=Red 3=REd 4=Orange
    I looked around, and found one topic similar, but it doesn't help...

    It should power it up easily if it gives 34A on the +12v rail. Let us know what happens, I can't see any obvious problems with the kit you've listed

  • K8N Neo2 BIOS HELP

    Hi all, this is my first post being new here, and i was hoping it would be a problem free issue but sad to say i need your help please, ive just installed a K8N Neo2 nForce mobo, with the following components, Geil 2gb ram, saphire x800xl AGP card, 1 main 80gig hd (master) and 1 200gb (slave) hd, and 1 audigy 2 sound card, all seemed ok and i could go into the BIOS to disable the onboard sound, but i need to pop back in the BIOS, but when i reboot and press the DEL key to do so nothing happens i get a cursor flashing were is usualy loads 1 or 2 info and then goes into the Bios but its not doing this at all now, i can load system as normal but cannot enter bios can anyone please help and before i go on i will say im a computer build virgin well this is my first ever build and wiull be last if i cant sort ths out, so please help if you can cheers  ???

    Tbh im havin more probs then just the one mentioned, but i think the bios one is the more important, but other things like the live auto update, and the core centre, software and maybe others, yet they come on the cd-rom and am for my mobo i get a error msg saying corecentre is not for my mobo when it is, and the live update i get error msgs sayin couldnt start up or somethink like that cant remember now, this being my first build EVER, was wondering do other ppl have the probs i seem to get when building computers or am i the only one who doesnt know he is doing lol :(, cheers to the ones that have tried to help so far and am still trying, believe me i need it.

  • Big problem with neo2, please help

    I just got my new neo with bios 1.4already in it and a 3000 winchester.
    i did a clean install of windows, then newest 5.10 nforce from nvidia.com, I did not installed firewall.
    And everything was cool except ethernet because it was not recognized (I mean the Nvidia was recognized but realtek gigabit was not recognized). here is the first question, Do I really need gigabit lealtek enabled in bios to connect to internet???
    i have a comcast high speed internet and on other boards I don't need to configure anything, just install the windows and internet was working. unfortunately here is different, after installing windows and drivers n-force I don't have acces to the internet!!!!!!! I don't know what to do. On the back of mobo there arwe 2 lan connections slot. When I plug my cable to the first one, I don't see any light coming from the cable (you know the orange light bipping frequently) but windows is recognizing that cable was plugged in. When I plug it to the secong lan slot the orange light are binpping but the windows is saying "internet cable unpluged"!!!1
    What a heck is going on??? please help me!!!!!!

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum help

    I recently purchased the K8N Neo 2 Platinum and an AMD 64bit 3000+ processor.
    The problem I seem to be having is that the system cannot see the SATA drive that is connected. I specifically only want to use this drive for storage...the windows driver is already installed but the drive isn't showing up.
    When I configure it in the BIOS, the settings are:
    IDE RAID > Enabled
    SATA 1 > Enabled (as it's connected to SATA1 on the m/b)
    SATA1 DMA > Enabled
    When the BIOS if loading up it seems to show that 'no disk reserved for RAID, RAID disabled'.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Are you trying to do RAID config? If you're doing the RAID pls enable the raid function or else disable it!! Then what about your booting drive priority? ie cdrom\hdd\floppy?? Tried to checked with your SATA cable whether is it loosen or improper plugged?
    BTW list down all your full spect's including the PSU in details and put it into your SIG as other ppl might need this info to help your problems!! Gd luck..

    I am running bios 3.0 that came on the board.  In the core cell menu, I cannot find any settings for htt multiplier (1x-5x).  The only options that I have are Auto (htt= 1300 mhz or 1400 mhx at 2.7ghz cpu), and 200 mhz (1:1 ratio, 270 mhz at 2.7 ghz CPU).  What happened to 2x, 3x or 4x?  Thank you.

    Dear friends:
    I just built my first AMD system, with some hesitation to be honest, and of now, the new system has a memory related problem.  I have the following:
    Crucial  (512MB X 2) 1 GB  PC3200 400Mhz  CL3 DDR DIMM (Model:
    CT6464Z40B)
    When I tried to install WinXP Pro for the first time with the two memory modules installed, the system will freeze in the middle of the installation.  When I removed the module from slot 3 (green in color) and leave the other in slot 1 (green), WinXP will load in a breeze.  With WinXP loaded, I re-inserted the module in slot 3 and after a short while the system froze again.  I removed it once more and the system runs as it should.  I removed the module in slot 1 and replaced it with the one in slot 3, and ran the PC with just that one and the PC run just fine, I even installed SP2 and the system runs just fine with one memory module.  My conclusion is that the MOBO doesn't what to run with both modules installed.  I haven't flashed the BIOS yet, that will be my next step.
    Could someone please help me set the DRAM configuration in the BIOS.  I know someone out there already has the right settings for the brand and model mention above and running a stable system.
    Also please help me decipher what the following means (as far as the sequence goes):  2.5-3-3-5-1T TrC11

               2-3-2-5-1T 230Mhz    ***** these are not the right ones******
    Where do the above go when the sequence in the DRAM in the BIOS in the following:

     That's IT!!  I've HAD it!!    M_ther F_cker!  M_ther F_cker!  No MORE!  Not Tonight!
    I give up.  I have messed with every single Memory timing and voltage setting.  One stick of crucial memory works no matter what the settings are, and two sticks of crucial memory throw errors no matter what I do to the BIOS settings.
    I took my memory to my friends house, who also has a K8N-Neo2 and it does the very same thing.  There appears to be a problem with this mobo / ram combination.    
    I am going to contact MSI about it.  For now, I am just using one stick of the Crucial memory just so I can have a stable system.  
    hansh, The reason you aren't having problems is because you are using Ballistix Crucial memory.  chinche and I are using standard issue (read cheaper) Crucial memory.  My friend is also using the Ballistix memory and his system is very stable and the memory even runs in Dual Channel mode!  I'm going to see what MSI comes up with.  If they can't help, I am going to RMA the cheap stuff and go for the Ballistix.
    chinche, here is how to decipher the memory timings (at least according to memtest86+)
    Tcl - Trcd - Trp - Tras - 1T/2T
    They are slightly out of order with the K8N-Neo2 BIOS settings page.
    3-3-3-8-2T means
    1T/2T Memory Timing = 2T
    CAS# latency (Tcl) = 3
    RAS# to CAS# delay (Trcd) = 3
    Min Ras# active time (Tras) =8
    Row precharge Time (Trp) =3
    Sometimes people will list @2.6V or @200Mhz also.  This is either the Memory Voltage or the Memory Clock.
    If you find the solution, please post it here.  I will do the same.

  • K8N Neo2 problem? or Hdd problem? please help me verify

    after setting up my board, i quickly flashed it to 1.3 via dos....yup...no liveupdate :D xp installed smoothly without problem, couple days later...maybe it was just the next day...cant really remember. something started to happen:
    1) from a cold boot, i'd get stuck on windows loading screen(where the bar moves), or stuck right after the loading screen...hence black screen. Sometimes it could get into windows.....but stuff wont load properly.
    2) sometimes clearing CMOS would work, but thats not something i want to do often. need to solution.
    3) sometimes it just wont go into windows at all, it just kept on auto reboot when it tries to enter windows
    4) when I try to reformat it; while doing fdisk, worse things happen......i delted everysingle partition and drives, and when it comes to testing drive integrity,,,,it got stuck....after a reboot, all the drives are back. and in order to get it to work properly....i'd have to clear cmos again.
    5) sometimes while reinstalling windows, some files could not be copied.....but the disc was perfectly fine as i just formatted my intel rig a few days ago. booting a couple of times and formatting a couple more times + clearing cmos a tons of times could solve it temporarily.
    6) yesterday, afer the dos section of xp installation was completed, i shut down my rig coz i really had to sleep. so today, i woke up and try to continue the windows portion.....gosh it didnt work, it says "fail to open ***some file****" while typing this, im reformatting my drive again.
    7) ive also used WD's utility to diagnostic the hdd,passed all the tests
    My Spec is as following:
    3200+
    k8n neo2p
    2 X 512 ocl 3200EL plat (used only 1 peice on dimm#1 while performing things stated above)
    sapphire9800pro
    antec neo power 480
    160 WD IDE
    I am certain that its not the ram, not the psu, not the vga as all had been tested on my intel rig before used. only thing that i could think of is either the hdd is screwed, or the board's defective. I also reflashed the bios to make sure my first bios flashing session wasnt faulty. please help me to troubleshoot this man....thanks in advance
    i thought it might be nvidia's ide driver problem, but bear in mind that the fdsik problem happens before the driver is even loaded.

    ive always seperated the hdd's cable from otehr drive's cable.
    funny thing about wd's hdd is, if I had the jumper on...even master....i couldnt even enter the bios. it would just stuck at POST screen. so i never had the jumper on.
    unfortunately, nobody in my province is carrying MSI's board....thanks to its "good" reputation in explodidng and melting down lol, so im on my own with this board.
    the hdd used on neo 2 was actually a retail wd hdd, bought not exceeding 2 months....before i got the 3200+ s939 it was used as my backup drive in my intel rig. it worked fine.
    ive just reinstalled windows into the hdd with my intel rig, currently the hdd has nothing, no drivers whatsoever, nada :D im leaving it that way for a day or so. if it doesnt boot up, im gonna try it on my intel board. if it boots up on my intel....there must be something wrong with the neo2...
    is there any other more stable bios aside of the official 1.3? and would it actually void the warranty if I used modded bios? something im not so certain about :(

  • MSI RAID on K8N Neo2 Motherboard - Please Help!

    I need to install the windows raid drivers for this motherboard.
    I have 2 x 200gb HD's both full of identical stuff (they were previously mirrored).
    My drivers disks are miles away in another part of the country. I have searched the internet for hours, searched the MSI site and downloaded hundreds of drivers which claim to work, but some of them don't even run and have no instructions what-so-ever.
    I have checked all the other forum posts, but can't make sense of them. I need a simple step-by-step installation guide.
    Does anyone know what to do?
    I would deeply appreciate some help.

    That's much better , post a new thread and descibe your problem.
    There no MSI staff here , so complaining of the product should be done through the MSI customer service www.msi.com.tw .
    Before throwing up eventually right/wrong solutions for you to try please update your post with detailed spesifications of your system and components.
    You say you have Neo2 and at the same time ms-7030 .
    Important we get this straight in case someone recommends a certain bios update for you.
    Neo2 is socket 939 dual channel motherboard and has code name ms-7025.
    K8N Neo Platinum (also called neo1 after neo2 was released) has code name ms-7030 .
    Witch one do you have .
    Harddisks , it's known that certain new disks from maxtor with 16MB cache has problems with all nforce3/4 chipsets.
    What type do you have .
    Bios version ( essensial to know with what revision of nvraid.rom you used on your raid)
    What version are you on , eventually what version have you updated to (if any) .
    OS version are you using and what servicepack level.
    What nForce chipset version you are on ( 5.03 / 5.10 /5.11 ?)
    If you get winrar you can easily make a driver disk from the unified nvidia archive executable by right click on it and select extract .
    Then you have the drivers under the ...\winxp2k\ide folder that can be put on a "nvide/nvraid floppy driver disk" if you like to.
    Does one of your mirrored disks have errors ? , try them seperate as single disks and boot test apps etc.
    If one has errors , format it and recreate the array as mirrored might be the best/easiest solution .
    Don't use sata port1/2 if you overclock fsb beyond 225 , it will corrupt the disks . Use sata port 3/4 .

  • K8N Neo2 Problems!! Please Help!

    Hi there, another n00b here in this forum...
    Just wanted some help with one of my K8N Neo2 mobos...
    I have 4 of these mobos... 3 seem to work fine but the 4th one has given me major headaches...
    I have tried 2 x 3200+ Winnies as well as 2 x 3500+ NewCastles & a 3500+ Winnie as well...
    Ram used are 4 x 256MB XMS3500, 2 x 256Mb KHX3200 as well as 2 x 512MB XMS3500 (all BH5) as well as some generic ram on this mobo.
    No matter what i do, I cannot get this mobo to boot up properly. The furthest I have gotten if to WinXP loading & then the $ucker freezes on me.
    Trying different combos of CPU/RAM get's me nowhere. All I get is beeps if I try to run Dual Channel.
    I have sent the board back for RMA & was told that there's nothing wrong with this board.
    What to do now?? I'm at wits end because I expect a mobo capable of running dual channel to do so without any problems...
    Maybe I should bring my setup to the shop/distributor & show them in front of their face for them to believe me??
    Actually, the shop believes me, just that MSI's "quality" assurance can't seem to reproduce the errors I'm getting...
    Maybe they should try to use 2 dimms instead of using 1 dimm & as soon as they get the machine to boot with the 1 dimm, they send it back to me saying that the board is faultless...
    One unhappy MSI customer...

  • Need help with k8n neo2 platinum

    I've just installed a new k8n neo2 platinum s939 board with a venice core 3200+ cpu the htt is 2000 and multiplier 10x.
    I've gone to the core cell menu and set the htt to 4x (seemed to be this at default) and the max mem clock at 166 (more about this in a moment), the fsb will go quite easily up to 250mhz even 255mhz, but when I try 260 Mhz the machine when it reboots shows the initial slash screen but then goes to a blank screen with the cursor flashing in the top left hand corner, I can't even get back into the bios setup without clearing the cmos.
    The odd thing is that the adjust cpu vid is showing a voltage of 1.50 and not 1.40 or startup.
    Anyway with the fsb at 250mhz the bios screen is showing the Current ddr clock at 208 mhz ( not the max memclock setting of 166) the memory in the motherboard ( a crucial 512meg ddr333 single stick) seems to perform OK according to memtest which shows no errors after 2 cycles.
    Any attempt to get to 260mhz fsb appears to fail even by upping the cpu vid to 1.525v unless i adjust the cpu voltage setting which by default is set to (by cpu vid) to +3.3%. Doing this enables me to get to fsb 260mhz but the memtest fails ( even when I set the max memclock to 133, which shows my current ddr speed at 174mhz, well below the 208mhz which appeared stable with the fsb at 250mhz?)
    So firstly why are there two cpu voltage settings in the bios when my manual only shows 1 (there is no mention of this cpu vid setting?
    How is it that my memory is stable at 208mhz with a fsb of 255mhz but unstable at 174mhz with the fsb set at 260mhz?
    Why does the memory clock lock not appear to be working, the memory should be fixed at 166mhz but infact increases with fsb?
    I have bios revision 1.5.
    Please help as I am not familiar with the bios settings for this nforce 3 chipset, they seem rather odd to me. I'm sure my venice core 3200+ cpu can get beyond 250mhz fsb, I have another pc with a venice core 3000+ cpu which runs quite happily at 270mhz fsb.
    PS I've tried reducing the htt to 3x but the same thing happens.

    OK further feed back, I can get to over 260mhz fsb but the system is not stable the memory runs OK with mem test but I have problems with prime95.
    I had to up the cpu core voltage to 1.53v to get to 260mhz using the cpu voltage setting in the bios and setting a 5% increase. increasing the cpu vid setting to 1.55v did not seem to do anything at all the core voltage was still at 1.43v.
    I upped the mem voltage to 2.6v from 2.5 but still could not get the system to be stable, it may be that the memory is holding the system back but I don't want to pay for better memory at the moment. Unless anyone has got any other ideas it looks like I may be forced to settle with 250mhz, well still a 500mhz increase maybe not that bad. I've now to try 3d benchmarking using my radeon 9600xt and 3dmark 03.

                I am a relative noob to building P.C's - done a few P4 based systems before but this will be my first Athlon based.  This systems primary use will be gaming.  I have the following on order (should be with me next week) : -

    I have some 'noobish' questions - apologies for my ignorance : -
    1) Memory - Will my memory be okay ?  Should I ditch it and buy some Corsair DDR400 (which everyone else seems to have!).  Will performance suffer if I stick with the DDR 333 ? Do I need to adjust settings in BIOS regarding memory timing ? (I only picked up on this from reading through other posts on this board, and am totally clueless on 'timing'- Ive never needed to adjust timing on any previous PC's....!)
    2) Sound Card - will I be better off sticking with the onboard sound on the MSI K8N neo 2 ? Or for best performance do I go with the SB LIve ? (god its a nightmare trying to get updated drivers for this card),  Would I get a noticable performance increase buying an Audigy 2?
    3) Vcore / other power issues - Reading this forum Im kinda scared by many posts along the lines of "..for stability I need to change my memory voltage to xx-V" or "...for a stable system I needed to change my Vcore to xx-V".  Will I need to change the Bios default values on this system just to get it to run stably??
    4) CPU FAN - Are AMD stock fans any good ?  My Hyper 48 is quite highly rated....
    5) Im completely new to SATA drives, but Ive printed off the very useful install guide on this site (which I intend to use).  Is there anything I need to look out for concerning adding my IDE drive also.
    I think thats about it just now - if anyone can see any other potential problems with my specs then please let me know.  Im really not trying to be negative / pessimistic - after all the reason I have went for this motherboard is that it is rated as one of the best.  Im just a bit paranoid that the dreaded B.S.O.D awaits me!
    On a more positive note - does anyone have similar system specs they use for gaming ?  How well does HL2 / Doom3 / Farcry etc fly J ? I cant wait !
