K8n neo4-f v3.0 pci lock

hi,
ive never managed to overclock this board at all since the day i got it,the pci lock doesnt seem to function at all,my question is would there be any way to get it to work ? bios update/roll back(bios 5.3 atm) ? there must be something i can do,theres plenty of folk with this same board who have good overclocks going, please help or its bin the board time,my athlon64 4000+ is getting a little dated so id like to give it a kick before i take the plunge and upgrade

good news to report
it seems like it was the kingston ram causing the ineffective pci lock on the msi k8n neo4-f i have, ive swapped it for 4x512 corsair xms and now have my 4000+ at 2750mhz im well pleased,i thought i was going to have to ditch this board,it can go higher but ive only a zalman cooler so i didnt want to take it up too far on just air, settings are:
cpu clock-2750mhz
fsb-250mhz
cpu multi-11x
htt-x4 1000mhz
ram-196.4mhz
ram timings-2.5.3.3.7
temps- idle 32 degrees,max load 45 degrees
i did have it at 2880mhz with no extra voltage but wouldnt boot to windows,i dare say if id pumped some more juice thru it i couldve got it stable but didnt want to risk it with only the zalman for cooling.

I had posted before on this subject, but I'm thinking I was off on the wrong tangent.
To recap. In the middle of the boot process (Windows XP banner displaying) video went dark and bios "no video detected" alarm went off. After this I could occasionally get the machine to start, usually after a reset. Sometimes it would work fine, other times I would get lockups. I thought the video card was bad. Bought a new, identical card. Same problem. I had recently flashed the bios (maybe a week before), I thought that may be to blame. I rolled back to the previous version, made no difference.
If I remove the PCI-E video card and put an old PCI card in, the machine is back to its old rock solid self.
It is looking to me like there is something wrong with the PCI-E bus. The power supply is an Antec 450W "Smart Power".  It has two 12 volt rails, that output 15 and 17 watts. This machine had been rock solid (1.5 years) up to this point, so I doubt it was underpowered. One thing that does trouble me a bit is the fact that when I remove the AC from the power supply it emits a strange noise ( a weird hiss) maybe 4 seconds after I remove the power cord. Maybe it always did this, I don't know. In my imagination I can see a leaking cap that is boiling off electrolyte. Speaking of caps, I closely inspected all the caps on the motherboard and none of them seem to be bloated or leaking.
I tried another power supply. A single rail (20 pin) 350w Sparkle. The video behaved the same (pci-e not detected by bios). I'm not so sure this proves anything because with the Sparkle the system may be underpowered.
Where do I go from here? Did anyone ever hear of the PCI-E circuitry craping out and everything else continues to work?? Could it be the power supply?? I would think if something was wrong with one of the 12 volt rails it would affect both. I would hate to drop $90 on another power supply and find out it doesn't make any difference.
    HELP.

The bios alarm is the one long two short, my board manual says that means video card not initialized. The pci-e card was in tight and locked down. Like I said above, I tried a brand new version of the same card, same problem. Since the all-in-wonder 2006 worked for a year and a half without problems, I'm thinking it is not a compatability problem.
I'm now running with a pci card and the system is it's old solid self again. If I look in device manager all the pci-e devices report they are functioning normally. Anybody know of a pci-e bus torture test ??
I've been doing a lot of reading on power supplies. Seems like Antec does not have the quality it used to. Again, I hate to drop the cash for a new ps if that is not the problem. A good one is not cheap. If I am sure the ps is the problem I will go for it. I'm still not sure it isn't a failure on the board itself.

  • K8N Neo4 SLi Platinum wireless pci card

I bought US Robtics Turbo wirless card adapter. I installed the card into the comm port and the software that came with the card. The system sees the card as Network Controller in the device manager. I've installed all the drivers that is avaliable for it, and nothing happens. I'm running XP64 and the bios hasn't been updated from the original bios, should i update the bios or find a wirless card that will work on XP64?

    Thx for the reply.
I've tried all the other pci slot, got the same result. The systen sees a network controller that is with out a driver.  I contacted US Robotics support and the guy suggest upgrading the bios.

  • Monitor won't resume from S3 on K8N Neo4

Put together the signature rig. Installed XP Pro SP2 on SATA with no problem. I have not done any overclocking as yet. Instead of buying a pci-express card, I took the cheap way out (since all my other video cards are AGP, which won't work on this board) & bought a pci video card. Problem is I can put system in S3, standby, & wake with mouse or keyboard, but monitor does not wake up. When I try to resume from standby, fans start, can hear drives start back up, etc. but monitor won't come up. Believe I have bios settings correct, but it's entirely possible that I've missed something which enables a pci video card to wake from standby. Have updated to latest beta drivers for video card. Latest nforce stand alone driver pack from nvidia, stand alone nforce_6.39_winxp2k, won't install. Says pci sys32 drivers corrupted & have to start windows at last known good setting. But I'm not sure if that is the correct version of latest drivers I should install. Anyone running K8N Neo4 with a regular pci video card? Can you bring it out of standby OK?

Thanks for the post, but I tried changing that setting, &, alas, did not work. On the suggestion of another forum, I went to the Nvidia site, downloaded what was labeled the latest Nvidia drivers for this board & tried to install them. That corrupted something or other, said windows could not start because of corrupted sys32 pci drivers. Had to start in "last known good" setting. Went to the download site for MSI motherboard, downloaded & installed the newest drivers from there, however. Have done a couple of system restores to try & get rid of some of the changed settings by all this stuff. Now after I try to resume from standby it sometimes resumes, fans etc. start up, then it shuts down, or goes into a restart. Been at this for a few days, not sure if I ought to just chuck the whole thing, buy a pci-express card, reformat & reinstall the OS. Either that, or just shut it down when I'm off for a while. Just kind of hate to buy another video card just to use this board.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum random lock-ups and BSOD

I built a new PC about 3 months ago and from day 1 it has always locked up / frozen at random intervals. Sometimes it also BSOD's with a Machine Check Exception. Seems to lock up / freeze more often when have multifple windows open eg. Multiple IE running but really is random. I have replaced the Mobo and Ram but keep having the same issues. Have tried a clean install but no luck either. Did a clean install on an old IDE HDD and seemed fine but it did not have all of the software that I run on the SATA drive. Thinking the SATA drive may be the issue? Please Help!!!
    System is as follows:
    MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum [Bios 1.D]
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ DC [AMD Drivers]
    2 x Kingston 1024Mb ram [Dual Channel]
Nvidia 6800 Ultra [Latest Drivers 91.31]
    Thermaltake Purepower 460W PSU +3.3V 30A, +5V 30A +12V 15A
Western Digital 200G SATA II HDD [SATA Port 5 i think]
1 x LG DVD +-R/RW [IDE Master] IDE port closest to edge of Mobo
    1 x LG CDR/RW [IDE Slave]
    MS XP Home SP2

    Seemed fine?
There isn't really be any difference between an IDE drive and a sata.
Except that the sata drive needs some drivers as your installing the os.
Check your ram timings in bios but likely it's your psu.
Which components are on which rail?
The ones that use the +12v are your cpu, cdrom, dvdrom and graphics card.
Try disconnecting both roms and see if it improves things?

  • MSI K8N-Neo4 and PCI-E x4

    Hi Folks,
I've got an MSI K8N-Neo4 (MS-7125) motherboard that I'm looking to add a RAID card to.  It's got a PCI-Express x4 slot on the board that I'd like to utilize.  However, I've seen some conflicting information regarding it's use.  In the manual on page 2-26 it states "PCI Express x4 Slot (Support PCI-E x2 device Only)".  However when I look at the webpage for the board at http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4_Platinum& it makes no mention of this limitation.
The main reason why I'm wondering is because I'd like to add a HighPoint RocketRAID SATA raid controller to my system.  If the slot can handle x4 cards, then I'll purchase the 2310 model, which is an x4.  If it cannot, then I'll purchase the 2300, which is an x2 model.  I've seen some mentions of other people on the forums with K8N-Neo4 boards using the 2320 (an x4 card with 8 SATA ports instead of 4 on the 2310), but haven't seen what sort of bandwidth they're getting.  Are you actually able to get PCI-E x4 bandwidth out of this port?  Or will it downgrade it to PCI-E x2 or PCI-E x1 (the PCI-E spec says that when cards a plugged into a different size port they only need to be supported at x1)?  Or, and even better question, will it even work?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Those are not different then from what's on the motherboard
Want a real one? Look at this: >>Real one!<<
    That's real raid controller.....
What you mention is just the same as the onboard stuff.
As for the Linux raid stuff, I presume you mean the Linux Software raid, no those controllers aren't that good, but the High-points aren't that good either.
Heck, they don't even have their own CPU or memory.....the one I showed you has and is WAY faster
(PS. sample given is PCIx, won't fit your board, but that's a raid controller!)
Okay, that still doesn't answer my question about the PCI-E slot.  You make a decent point, but I was more using the Highpoints as an example and because they came up in several searches of the forum.  For the sake of getting a real answer, lets assume it is a real RAID card, such as the PROMISE SuperTrak EX8350 RTL, which according to the Serial ATA on Linux page is a real raid card and all that.  Will it work in the PCI-E x4 slot on the MSI K8N-Neo4 Platinum or not?
All I really want to know is if the slot can actually run a PCI-E x4 card or not.  The documentation contradicts itself.

About PSU I'm a old (41 years old) newbie, and  I had to re-assemble my old computer to work   but I check this before with MSI software and at motherboard bios voltage check and remember that it was ok it is a 600 watts. But I think that even if it is not, I could at minus install the driver and start Windows. I had no possibility to even start Windows.
If I  install any MSI or Nvidia driver, when loading WindowsXP the screen turns black and at some time after the system reboots and prompts to start in secure mode. So I can't do anything, even starts Windows with this videoboard with right drivers. It only works with "VesaSafe" driver.

  • How do I get my NX6600GT-TD128E (PCIE) video card installed on a K8N NEO4-F Mb ?

I have received two new NX6600GT-TD128E (MS-8983) vdeo cards to install on my new K8N NEO4-F (MS-7125) motherboard flashed with BIOS ver 1.B.
First video card turned out to be bad.  The replacement card allows view of bios screens and post screen, but when Windows XP (pro) starts up, the video goes blank and Windows XP locks up dead.
Any suggestions as to what I need to do to get the video card up and running?

The problem lies in sata 1&2. by using 3&4 many people have resolved many conflicts .   The PCI bus is locked on both sides. There is a known issue with 1&2.
In my experince things have changed with the Neo4. I expected 3 and 4 to be locked and got textrure file errrors using 3dmark2001se, a sure sign of an overclocked disk. Using 1 and 2 now and had no such problem.

This is the very same problem that I have with this board, even if you plus a ps2 keyboard and mouse in it does nothing, I had to disconnect the board completely from the power supply, leave it a few minutes and try it again, only then did it work, it only seemed to do this during my OS install, which as you can imagine was loads of fun
Try that out, it should sort your woes out.

If yes is there a moltiplicator to change the PCIE clock(my videocard is 400mhz), because It provokes artefacts in the Post , in the bios, and continues shutdown of the system( first appears the windows “VPU RECOVER”, than shutdown) and the visualization is full of artefacts.
The question is: Pcie clock is asynchronous or synchronous with CPU Clock, when is disable spectrum in cellmenu?

If you creat a signature (in profile) it will save you having to type your spec's  out each time or us looking for it. Use mine as a template.
What PSU are you using ? Can you list the power output ? (writen on side of psu)
Going from your specs you listed your graphics card is very hungery on power so I would suggest your psu isn't up to the job under load.
Post the spec and we will know for sure.

  • Strange K8N Neo4

Hi, got my K8N Neo4 AMD 64 bit system built and having strange probelms.
    My System:
    K8N Neo4 with AMD 64 3000+ (Winchester Core) 939
    Geil 1GB PC3200 400MHz 2-64x64 Dual Channel Ultra Series DDR Memory 184Pin

Sapphire Radeon X600 Pro PCI Express 128MB DDR Video Card
    BUFFALO WIRELESS USB ADPT
    Creative Labs 56k Modem.
    ChiefMax 650W PSU (+3.3V=36A, +5V=36A, +12V=34A, -12V=1A, -5V=1A, +5VSB=2A)
My problems,  I get Random Lock Ups,  USB Devices not being recognized.
When Pluging in a PQI iStick Pen Drive, I might get that the USB device is not Recognized, or the Computer might just Lock UP.
Also will get the same thing with other USB Devices, like a LogiTech 4000 Pro Web Cam,  my Epson C80 Printer.
Also have been on the net just chatting with Yahoo IM or surfing when the system will just reboot or Lock Up.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks
    Gordon
PS.  I am not Over clocking at all.  No Desire to overclock,  computer is fast enough for me.  I don't play games except for FS 2004

Ok, I will try posting this again.  (Computer rebooted while typing it)
I moved my PCI Modem to the Orange PCI slot and most of my lockups are gone.  Not all, just don't seem to be as many.
Still have the USB problems.  ON boot up, usb works great.  after awhile, usb seems to disappear.  When any thing is plugged in, just get that the device could not be recognized and any USB devices that are plugged in  no Longer work.
So, could it be my PSU?  (see first post for specs)  or M/B crapping out?
When My computer restarted from a Random Reboot, Windows said it recovered from a Serious Error.
When ever I have had to Power off the system and reboot from a lockup, I have not gotten that error.  So, really not sure if it would be the PSU or not.
Are there any PSU testers that would help?  Not those yes there is power, no there is no power type.
