K8n neo4 fi and 3700+ san diego overclocking pro - no post over 240 fsb

Hi ! Sorry for my bad english, i'm not a good at writing in english.
My config is in my signature. The problem is that there is no POST over 240 FSB... I've lowered the HT from 5x to 4x and 3x bot nothing happened....
i put the memory from auto to manual, and doesn't matter that if i change the timing from 2.5-3-3-8 2T to 3-4-4-8 2T....
The problem is the same when i set back the ram 200 to 166.... I tried clockgen, and it worked well until 240, but from 241 my win freezes and cannot boot until i press the button in the motherboard
It's working now on 11*235 @ 1.4V + 6.6% overlock.... i'll  change at weekeng my memories to kingmax hc 2x512mb 500mhz, however i dont mind this will change the fsb problem...
The bios is 3.52... i read somewhere that the bios can be 1 b - c or d and the d is the best, but i couldn't figure out that which one is mine.... or this is just a fact, causes nothing?
Somebody please help, or i have to change the MB to another one, my 3700+ is a pretested one @ 2900 so this is not good for me to run it at just 2600mhz...

i'm using a box cooler, which was given to a x2 amd64 cpu... heatpipe version, holds cold the cpu, really good one.
maybe there is a misunderstanding between everest and my bios , becouse i use 1.4V + 6.6% overlock which is near 1.5V in BIOS, but everest shows only 1.2V cpu voltage.
the psu is strong, it shows ~12.5-12.6V on the + 12V while prime95 blend torture test is running, my videocards eats very few energy
i've found the specifics of it on the net ->
Output
+3.3V @ 28A, +5.5V @ 32A, +12V @ 26A, -12V @ 0.8A, -5V @ 0.8A, +5VSB @ 2.5A
the temps on idle are very low, the cpu is only 31-32C...videocard is cold too, 'couse of the zalman ->42-43C...
mb temperature is also near 40C...

• K8N Neo4 Platinum with 90nm San Diego 4000+

Hello everyone,
My first post here. Tomorrow I'm purchasing a K8N Neo4 Platinum MB (non SLI) and have requested the retail seller to get me a 90nm San Diego 4000+ instead of the older 130nm Clawhammer 4000+. Now, after reading through this forum it appears there may be a compatibility issue with the San Diego chip. Should I change to the Clawhammer or go ahead with the San Diego. I don't plan on OCing for a couple of months. What should I do?
Thanks!

I just fired up my K8n Neo4/sli with a 4000 rev.e chip last night, Bios is showing 3.0 and working like it should. Have it hooked to a Enermax 535 watt and One Evga 6800gt pci-e with the second card still in the box, I want to give it a good update and test before I bring the second card online, Cpu running at 35c with the side of under a Thermalright xp 90C Heatsink fan blowing down, want to test it fan blowing up next. Good luck it's a nice chip.
JJWOLD, thanks for the update, good news for me. I picked up the board last night, the rest of the stuff should be here next week. I'm going to load it with WinXP 64, which I know has limited driver support but I have three other computers so I'll just take it very slow on additional hardware and software installations. I may even use the integrated sound for now. By the way, did your board come with the 1394 cable and bracket?
Thanks!

Offcially that board does not have support for San Diego at this time, so if you have got it working, as some people have it may have some wierd and wonderful effects on your system.
A guy on another forum got a response from a MSI tech that said they were working on it and to check their site regularly for a bios update. As far as "weird and wonderful effects" my setup has never run faster or smooter since I upgraded from my 3500+ Winchester. This is the 3rd day I've been running the San Diego, have had no problems other then having to use A64 tweaker to set RAM timing to 1T. 500Mhz overclock  stock voltage, air-cooled, prime stable, I ran the torture test for 9 hours overnight!
Check it out!

i had this problem when i put a sata drive on my computer. i downloaded the sata driver from msi live update, installed it and that fixed my problem.
This can't be driver related. How can a driver have an effect at POST?
Turok_t,
Before you consider going through all of the below, try removing the motherboard from the case and place it on the antistatic bag the board came with and try to POST with only the CPU, 1 stick of RAM, VGA. No drives connected at all.
What thermal interface material are you using? Paste or the pad that came on the retail heatsink? (Assuming you have the retail version of the heatsink installed)
48c is slightly warm but not bad, perhaps the room temperature is warm where you live?
You could try reseating your CPU and heatsink.
If you are using the thermal pad that came with the heatsink, I suggest you leave the unit powered on for a while to heat up the interface pad, as the materail can be very sticky when cool and take your CPU right out of the socket if you are not careful. This should soften the material slightly so you can gently remove the heatsink, and if there is a little room, try rotating the heatsink a little befor removing it. That should help alleviate some of the surface tension created from the adhesion. Before you do this, I suggest you get some Arctic Silver 5 as you cannot re-use the stock thermal pad.

Why don't you hook up an ohm meter to the static bag, or take a hot and neutral from a 110v power plug and hook both ends to the oppisite sides of the static bag? No blown breaker? I didn't think so. I have done this for many years and many others on this forum recommend this method. Of course you can use cardboard, but keep in mind that the only way the bag is going to get charged is by either you touching it or dragging it along the ground. I have never been shocked by a static bag and (like I mentioned previously) have done this on many computers. Heck, even my A+ Certification book says to troubleshoot that way.
If you do have proof that anti-static bags are conductive, please show me and I will shut up.
Good Luck

hello,
im pretty new here, im about to build a new computer, im getting a MSI K8N NEO4-F, and the case im getting is a thermaltake soprano w a thermaltake PSU, some ppl are telling me that the PSU only has a 20-pin power connector, will that work in the K8N neo4-f mobo ?
any help would be appreciated
thanks

i didnt mess with the door alarm thing lol didnt want to waste my time.  I just use my aspire 520 watt the amps are in my profile its only a 20 pin but it kicks a$$, Strong amps and great cooling.  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817148008  its a little longer so when installing and removing psu just unscrew the four little screws for the top USB

• K8n neo4 noise and random thought

Hello, in order to replace my old PIII, i just bought a k8N neo4 platinium and and athlon3000+.
Well, first i deseperatly tried to get the cpu scaling to work , but only to discover than in fact the cpu seems to only be able to switch between 2 speed (1Ghz and 1.8Ghz), and once i had it working unfortunatly this didn t helped to reduce the noise (meaning than cool and quiet thingy doesn t really help for noise).
So i used the temp target in the bios and set it to 60° (using 50° didn t helped a lot) an now effectively while cpu core is still at 40° (or so i guess) the cpu fan jumped from 4500 to 2000 rpm, which is a lot less. Also, i fell like cpu fan speed never decrease, like it goes faster if there's more heat, but then never go slower.
Also, to me it seems than all the temps reported in userspace are just plain wrong, the fan ones seems ok, but not the temp, i think i need to change some offeset and multiplier to get the good values, but i have no idee how to get them.
I know everyone complained about this, but the northbridge fan is really really noisy so does anyone think than MSI will one day release a bios update that will automagicaly change the speed of that fan depending on temp _without_ us needing to void the guarranty with some soldering.
Also is there some quiet fans for the cpu that i could use to replace the one furnished by amd without using the hairdryer to remove that glued thing on the mobo ?
A little detail, i am running linux, had to go to worlplace to create the flashing bios floppy so that i could get the cool and quiet thingy to work. Also i did not finished to set up everything and i doubt i will even try to get both sata controllers to work, but at this moment everything on the mobo seems to "approximatively work".
"device eth0 entered promiscuous mode" that sounds like a problem on the mobo, also loading sensors seems to screw up the pictures from my tvcard.
Is there something "interesting" i can plugg on that last pci slot at the bottom or is that the only way msi found to get us to buy their third party stuff ?
Also i still got my sound blaster live 5.1, and i am still not persuaded that the nforce sound is better.
Yet again some strange thing is than i plugged eatch of my drives on a separate ata controller, they are alone on the cable, the cable is a 80pin one and still at boot the mobo complain that cables are not 80pin.

Thanks for the pointer about the power supply.  I've updated my sig with the type of power supply and the voltages.  Unfortunately, the powersupply has no label on it, probably because the Antec Overture II case takes a nonstandard style power supply (it's in the front of the case, has in and out on the same side, and vents out the bottom).  However, it claims that it is a smartpower 450W power supply, so I'm guessing it's the same as the regular Antec SmartPower 450W, which has the following specs:
,+3.3V,+5V,+12V1,+12V2,+5V SB,-12V
Max. Load,    32.0A*,    30A*,    15A*,    17A,    2.0A,    0.3A
Min. Load,    0.5A,    0.5A,    0.4A,    0.4A,    0A,    0A
Load Reg.,    ±5%,    ±5%,    ±5%,    ±5%,    ±5%,    ±5%
Ripple V(p-p),    50mV,    50mV,    120mV,    120mV,    50mV,    120mV
Although I'm not a real newbie, this is a level of tweaking that I'm not familiar with.  I'm guessing I should try removing the board from the case and hooking it up to a different power supply?

What core your CPU is? San Diego? Or others? Supporting Venice & San Diego & dual core CPU should need BIOS support. It seems MSI has not released new BIOS to support them. They say they are busy testing those CPU now. When would the new BIOS come out? I am looking forward for it.
Yes, this is San diego, but on my older GB K8NS Ultra-939 i didnt need eny bios update to get the C'n'Q work, wierd    Hope so MSI will relase the new bios with San diego support as quickly as possible

• Problems with K8N Neo4-F and eVGA 6600GT

Alright, I just built a new PC after my last computer died. The specs:
MSI K8n Neo4-F
Athlon 64 3200+ (Venice)
1 GB Corsair PC3200 RAM
eVGA GeForce 6600GT (PCI-Express
Antec TruePower 550W PSU
Now, when I turn on the computer it seems to boot up okay, except for the fact that, well, I get no video. However, when I hit delete to enter the BIOS, I do get a picture on the screen - but it's horribly scrambled and I can't make out anything whatsoever. I can tell that it's properly going into BIOS because I can vaguely see the selection bar which moves when I press up/down, but I can't do a thing besides that. I have no realy clue what the problem is, especially since I can't even do a thing yet. I checked to make sure the card and power connectors and everything are properly seated... Could having a 20-pin connector in a 24-pin mobo make it do this? Or is it something far more sinister, like a dead video card?

Bought another PCI-e video card and still doesn't work. Guess the motherboard is bad. Ordered an Asus this time. Disappointed with the lack of help from MSI in troubleshooting/solving the problem. I had to buy a regular PCI video card and two new PCI-e video cards just to see were the problem might be; swap-tronics troubleshooting on my dollar($), that sucks...

• K8N Neo4 Platinum and wake-on-lan

Hi,
I don't understand if the MSi K8N Neo4 Platinum has wake on lan capability..
There is in BIOS a setting in power manegement, but it's not loisting 'wake on lan'. In Windows (XP Pro), I can find a tool from MSI where I can setup a date/time for the PC to boot up, but nothing about WOL.
Can it do WOL ?
How does it work ?
Thanks for your help,
Rico

Wake On LAN, developed from Intel, provides remote wake-up technology that enables
systems to be remotely powered "on" for off hour’s tasks.
A result of the Intel-IBM Advanced Manageability Alliance and part of the
Wired for Management Baseline Specification, this technology helps save time on automated software
installations, upgrades, disk backups and virus scans.
Wake on LAN technology resides in a managed network adapter and on the system motherboard.
Please see the Intel web site for more information on WOL technology.

I have K8N NEO4 Platinum, AMD FX55, 2X512 Crucial Ballistix PC4200, PowerColor X850XT VIVO, 3X74 HD WD Raptor.
I have a big problem with this motherboard and Video card.
I have set CPU clock at 250mhz (because I have DDR500), now the PCE clock is 100mhz. Is synchronous with CPU clock? If yes is there a moltiplicator to change the PCIE clock(my videocard is 400mhz), because It provokes artefacts in the Post , in the bios, and continues shutdown of the system( first appears the windows “VPU RECOVER”, than shutdown) and the visualization is full of artefacts.
The question is: Pcie clock is asynchronous or synchronous with CPU Clock, when is disable spectrum in cellmenu?

Hi Grayone, thanks.
Now just to make sure, the following question is: won't it go over/hit the NB chipset cooler?
And, suplementing that, some people are using Fanmate 2 to reduce speed/noise of stock MSI Neo4-F NB fan. Do you know if it works without harm to mobo? To what rpm could I reduce the speed - the lowest Fanmate allows is OK?
Thanks in advance,
Jose
The card will fit over MSI's stock chipset cooler , no problem.
I would not turn the fanspeed down. Nforce chipsets run hot, and the fan is actually the only cooling there is for the chipset as the 'heatsink' itself is tiny.
