K8N Neo4, no video output, confusing D-Bracket result.

Hay all, hopefully someone here can help me. I'm getting pretty desperate
Moved my computer to a friends house the other day and when I got there it wouldn't give me any video output. The D-Bracket stops at "Assign resources to all ISA."
First thing I did was reset the cmos. To no avail.
I have also tried some suggestions I found in searching this forum.
That is, try diff memory slots, without memory, without VGA, etc.
At this point I am working with the mobo sitting on an anti static bag, and with only CPU plugged in. This is where I am getting really confused.
With only CPU connected. The D-Bracket hangs on "Intialising keyboard controller"
With only CPU + a single RAM module connected. It hangs on the ISA one.
What I would love to find out is actually what is at fault here. The ISA error seems to be the most vague of them all  Should I be getting video on the screen before the ISA error? Unfortunately I don't have anything I can switch in place of my key components as I upgraded from an athlon xp system.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi guys, still waiting on that old pci card to test out, my friend assures me it was posted yesterday, so it should be with me soon.
Im unsure what the BIOS revision is, though I havent updated it since I bought it last year. I doubt I can find out without getting some info onscreen first :s
As for my RAM and PSU, the RAM is some cheap Kingston I think, PC3200, its been a long time since I bought that stuff. The power supply is an Akasa Paxpower one. Its fullspecs are here.
If only it were as simple as reseting the bios though. Alas I have tried it several times :P
A little history of the system itself also, it has been sitting on my desk the entirety of this year. In fact when it broke was the first time I've moved it in several months. The aformentioned components have been running together with 2 sata drives. 1 120gb, as well as a 240gb one. Also a single DVD drive. Ive never had any trouble before now.

  • Upgraded RAM on MSI K8N Neo2 lost video output?

    I have a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mainboard with 1gb ram, started to get blue screen problems and acertained it was a ram module causing this. I decided I would upgrade and have bought some Corsair XMS3200C2Pro ram 2 x 512mb. Installed and rebooted, no video just the flashing green on the monitor switch. I have checked the graphics card but it is still seated and all the cables are firm. Tried taking new ram out and putting old back in - no joy.
    Weird thing is I am sure it reboots into windows (my msn get logged out on my laptop) and it sounds like its going through the process but no visuals at all not even bios flash screen.
    Any ideas???? I have tried google but nothing there that helps.

    This may work.  Try taking out the new Corsair Memory and inserting one stick in slot #1 (closest to cpu) of old memory that you know works.  Reset cmos real carefully (disconnecting power, moving jumper, etc. exactly as in the manual).  If it boots, hit del to enter bios, choose optimized defaults, then go into dimm voltage and raise to 2.75 (ignore any red flashing warning or use 2.7 if you are afraid). F10 and save. Shutdown before reboot.  Disconnect power, open case, insert your corsairs. reconnect power. hopefully this works.  [Is any extra power connector required for gpu properly attached?]  good luck.

  • K8N Neo Platinum: no video output, long beep and long wait, led 3 green

    I have a K8N Neo Platinum for about 4 years without big problems. Two days ago I dismounted teh pc to clean and put a new HD and when I mounted again it did not work.
    Problem:

    * System hangs and no video output;
    * Speaker keep making long beep followed by long rest;
    * D-Bracket LEDs are 3 green and 1, 2, 4 red meaning it hangs somewere near teh keyboard controller initialization;
    What I have tried:
    With no change:

    * Taken off everything from teh MB and put back only CPU, PSU, RAM, VGA and plugs for power and reset switch;
    * Turn on teh MB out of teh case;
    * Clear teh CMOS setting JBAT1 and by removing battery;
    * Tried all possible combinations of one and two RAM sticks and slots on MB;
    * Take out all of teh RAM;
    * Take out VGA;
    * Take out RAM and VGA;
    * Switched VGA;
    * Switched PSU;

    I have already had some problems like this before with power failures but magically things worked again. This time was teh same. I got things working some times at random (really random lol) by taking power cables, reseting bios and turning back on but teh problem reapeared when I put HDD back and did not work again when I removed it. Now I can't seem to get it to display anything.
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
    EDIT: sry I made a little confusion: It is a K8N Neo and not a K8N Neo2.

    Thanks!
    Keyboard problem, you think? What do you have?
    Two things that are quite common:
    Do not attach PS2 keyboard when there is power in the system.
    Do attach USB keyboards when you are up and running in Windows.
    This is not it, but Logitech keyboard drivers often complicate things.
    I do use a PS2 kbd but never had problems with it (unlike teh PS2 mouse). I do not think it's kbd fault because it won't POST with or without it.

  • X850XT video problem, with K8N NEO4-F

    OK have any of you, had or heard of this problem,
    I just picked up a sapphire X850XT PCI E video card,
    But when I install it, there is blue and red lines going through everything,
    This shows up as soon as the computer post’s, so it’s not a driver problem,
    Some times it looks fine, then if I try to benchmark the card, with 3Dmark06,
    It gets through some of it, and then it gets the lines problem,
    I looked around to see if it might have been a compatibility problem,
    But I don’t see anything any where, so I’m assuming it’s a bad video card,
    But before I send it back thought I would ask about it,
    Specs,
    K8N NEO4-F
    Athlon 64 4000
    1gig ram
    500watt dual rail PSU  (all the voltages are normal)

    PSU is a antec 500 watt
    the card does this right at post, so it's not the drivers,
    I have reset it more then I can count, I think it's the card,
    when I put this 5300 back in it's fine,

  • K8n Neo4 Onobard sound --- Center channel is output on stereo sources

     Isn't it odd that  the onbaord drivers send output to the CENTER channel by default, even though the source is 2 channel?  Everything is working, but I'd rather this did not happen.  Anybody else notice this?

    This may or may not be relevant.
    I, too, have a K8N NEO4-F and found that Win XP didn't jive wel with The NVidia IDE driver that comes with the board, so I just didn't install that driver and my PC works just fine using the standard Windows driver.
    Same experince here with Neo4-Platinum and Nvdia IDE driver.

  • RMA'ed K8N Neo4 Platinum board, no sound on the new board's output

    Hi Folks,
        I just got back the replacement for the K8N Neo4 Platinum boad I sent in a month ago.  The good news -- my mirrored RAID array came back up and my WinXP/SP2 setup looks fine.  The bad news -- my front speaker output doesn't put out any sound.  My Amplified 2.1 speaker set was plugged into my older machine and working fine, and I just swapped the speaker cable into the green output plug on my MB, and no sounds comes out.  Sounds was working on the previous MB which I sent in for RMA, so the software on my HDD's should have been set correctly to generate sounds on the new MB.
        First, any suggestions on how to get the sound outputs working?  Second, any pointers on how to diagnose what's going on?  Should I be seeing "Realtek '97" (or something like that) for the playback and recording devices, for instance?
        Thanks in advance for the help!
    Clark

    Couple of things come to mind.  Power on the system and head on' over to the bios.  Ensure the audio onboard is actually turned on...or if the board they sent you had it disabled.
    Check the Device manager for any "!" in yellow next to anything in the audio dept. (windows control panel/system/hardware...yadda yadda....)  If the onboard audio is turned 'on' and windows is seeing it? You'll have a heading for AC '97 listed, and also under sound effects options in the control panel it should be listed.  If it's listed as working 'ok'?  I seem to remember a set of jumpers on the motherboard for audio output.  In the manual it's listing as follows:
    "If you don't want to connect the front audio header, pins 5&6, 9&10 have to be jumpered in order to have signal output directed to the rear audio ports.  Otherwise the line-out connector on the back panel will not function"  That's out of my manual regarding JAUD1 connector.  And I have the Neo4 K8N board.
    Best of luck!

  • How to SET or Configure BIOS to use XFX6200 TC video card for MSI K8N NEO4 Plat.

    Hello Friends,
    Can any body help me to the following problem?
    I am having XFX 6200 TC Geforce / nvidia Grafix card for my MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum Ultra board.
    The BIOS states PCIE clock speed as 100 Mhz as default.  The setting can be changed upto 145Mhz.
    My Video card can be configured upto 350 Mhz.  How to do this and which is the right way to use the display card with optimum setting?
    Thanks for all those who reply to this.

    the coolbits link http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=815
    to manually set the clocks on the graphic card, after installing coolbits, just follow the instruction on that page:
    Quote
    Unpack the achive (self extracting) and then in the setup directory simply click on the .reg file. To get to these options simply right-click on your desktop and go to 'NVIDIA Analog Display' (Win XP/2003). For Win 2000 and lower you may need to get to the Nvidia Control Panel the old way. Right click desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > GeForce xxxx
    for overclocking just take a look at the overclocking sections of the forum. make sure to read the stickies before you do anything.

  • K8N NEO4 FI (v. 1.0) no video, no LAN, no POST

    It happened randomly the other day -- was playing an online game when I got a brief blue screen and my PC shut off.  Now when I power up I get no video and no LAN activity and of course no POST.  Everything spins up fine, all fans, HD, video card fan, NB fan ... swapped out video card and mem sticks with no luck.  I've cleared CMOS numerous times and sometimes I can get into BIOS and make changes but eventually it locks up and I have to shut it down.
    I haven't swapped out the PSU (Antec Eathwatts 500) yet because everything powers on just fine and the PSU is only a couple months old.
    Thoughts/suggestions anyone?  Specs:
    K8N NEO4 FI (v. 1.0) 1.D BIOS

    2GB Kingston HyperX (2x1GB) PC3200 in slots 3/4

    What was other PSU that you've tried?
    Re-seat the CPU as well and apply new thermal paste{not too much}
    Use 1st two DIMM's close to CPU socket.
    Thanks Svet, I'll try re-seating the CPU.  I saw a link on how to separate HSF from CPU without sticking somewhere on the site, do you have the link please?
    I used an Antec 450w Truepower to troubleshoot.  When I removed my Audigy 2 ZS PCI sound card and a stick of RAM I was able to boot into BIOS, FWIW.

  • K8N Neo4-F and video card

    Will an 8800 GTS 320 video card fit on a K8N Neo4-F?

    Quote from: jose_ramos on 13-May-07, 02:56:39
    Hi Grayone, thanks.
    Now just to make sure, the following question is: won't it go over/hit the NB chipset cooler?
    And, suplementing that, some people are using Fanmate 2 to reduce speed/noise of stock MSI Neo4-F NB fan. Do you know if it works without harm to mobo? To what rpm could I reduce the speed - the lowest Fanmate allows is OK?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jose
    The card will fit over MSI's stock chipset cooler , no problem.
    I would not turn the fanspeed down. Nforce chipsets run hot, and the fan is actually the only cooling there is for the chipset as the 'heatsink' itself is tiny.

  • Confused - whats the difference between K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum and Diamond??

    MSI web page says the Diamond has:
    "Silicon Image's SATA RAID supports another 2 SATA II ports. Transfer rate is up to 300MB/s."
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=638
    their Platinum page doesn't list the Silicone Image raid as a feature on the Platinum.
    I have K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum and it has the Silicone Image raid - I'm using it now.
    Can anyone explain this?
    Another question:  for both boards it shows:  "NV RAID (Software) - - RAID function available for ATA133 + SATA HD drives or 2 SATA HD"
    How can the Raid fuction work for ATA133 drives since the cables for SATA and PATA are different?   What do the mean Raid for 133?

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI

    I am confused with regard to what is actually included with the K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI board in the US. Unfortunately, MSI isn't very clear with their information.
    Does this board include the following, or are they optional, & if optional how can I get them:
    IEEE 1394 (Firewire) ports (1 external, 2 internal)
    SPDIF Out
    D-Bracket 2
    SATA 5-6 ports
    Anybody actually have this board installed & running yet, & would you buy this board if you were starting all over again? Were your experiences with this board good or bad? Any gotchas?
    Thanks

    Quote
    Unfortunatly, the MSI-websites (american, european, taiwanese) all have slightly different specs listed, but none exactly covered what my package included.
    I've read numerous posts about MSI motherboards & video cards not meeting the manufacturer's claimed specifications.   This deeply troubles me, & makes me wonder if I should buy MSI products at all.
    Quote
    f you buy 2 6600GT's now, you're stuck on the performance of about a single 6800GT, less in some cases.
    If you buy a 6800GT now, you get the same bang, but have the option to add anotherone later to up your rig!
    Exactly my point! I just can't see paying extra money on a high-end, bleeding-edge SLI motherboard, then populating it with 2 mid-level graphics cards. I suppose that seems logical to some people, but not me. I've also read in the reviews that the attachment of the heatsink/fan on the 6600GT is not physically secure, & many of the heatsinks aren't properly attached to, or making full contact with, the GPU on retail versions of the cards!
    Of course, SLI is still very much a technology that has yet to prove its promise. Very few games support it, & teething pains abound. We're still in the verion 1.0 of SLI motherboards, which is kind of scary, & all of the current crop of SLI motherboards seem to have their "issues." nVIDIA is lagging behind in releasing updated video card drivers. Maybe SLI isn't quite "ready for primetime" yet.
    Quote
    An Ultra would be a waste of money. The difference is not worth the extra dough for it, and a brand GT can
    be clocked to Ultra-levels as well.
    Some people would not want to spend the extra $ on an Ultra, but others might feel that it is well worth the cost. Sure, you can overclock a GT to gain a bit of extra performance, but what levels of performance can you gain by overclocking the Ultra? I don't know the answer to this. I still have a lot of research to conduct concerning the nVIDIA 6800GT & Ultras, & the "real world" viability of SLI.

    If you creat a signature (in profile) it will save you having to type your spec's  out each time or us looking for it. Use mine as a template.
    What PSU are you using ? Can you list the power output ? (writen on side of psu)
    Going from your specs you listed your graphics card is very hungery on power so I would suggest your psu isn't up to the job under load.
    Post the spec and we will know for sure.

  • K8N Neo4 build shutting down at random

    **Update: I remounted the mobo and tried powering up with just the processor/heatsink, power supply, ram, and video card. No go. I don't know what else to do. It refuses to boot!
    Well, my computer worked fine for almost a day. The first thing I did when I got it up and running was update the bios through live update, because I heard the default one for this board is pretty bad. I was also hoping that would fix the sudden unexplained shutdowns, but it didn't affect it. After a few more shutdowns, it finally refused to boot up at all. I turn the power on and nothing happens. I've tried resetting every piece of hardware except the motherboard. I'd rather not take the mobo out if I can help it, but if that's the problem, I will. Any ideas?
    Edit: You know, I'm almost positive the motherboard has more spacers installed than I actually used to mount the mobo. Keep in mind, though, that they're not just touching the back of the mobo. I installed one or two more spacers than I needed, but they all had holes. Could that be causing this?

    Removing it from the case eliminates any possibility of something shorting out against the case as well as giving you a chance to examine the back side for discoloration or burn marks.
    not sure exactly what to look for, but I don't see anything out of the ordinary on the back of the mobo.
    I have a strange update... at first I could use the monitor with my old pc, but an hour ago when I tried to hook it up, it did the same thing it does on the new computer. Lights flash on and off, doesn't come on permanently. This is veeeery strange, because it technically rules out all the hardware in my new pc as the cause of this. To make things stranger, the monitor connects to onboard just fine. It only malfunctions when connected to the Geforce 2 or my new 7900GS. But I have gotten both pcs to boot, monitor included, before. It doesn't make any sense. Early yesterday I had the monitor connected to this old pc through the Geforce 2. Late last night, when I tried to connect them again, it adopted the symptoms of the new computer. So it seems like this problem has to do with the monitor, but I find it strange that it decides to become defective the very same time I'm building a new pc. Plus, it DOES work with onboard.
    ugh...
