K8N Neo4 PLatinum and OCZ DDR booster

i had a look at the OCZ page for this product and it says that the Neo4 Platinum is incompatible. I think i saw something about someone using the booster with this board but that was a while ago...
So can anybody tell me if there is a possibility of the OCZ DDR booster working in my mobo?

Maybe that person modded it's DDR Booster so it works, but that voids warranty and you need to know how to do it.
See OCZ site: they say it will not work (If unmodded) but i think it's better to buy memory that overclocks well in the voltage range the mobo can suplpy than doing mods to the board (or other things)

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum and wake-on-lan

    Hi,
I don't understand if the MSi K8N Neo4 Platinum has wake on lan capability..
There is in BIOS a setting in power manegement, but it's not loisting 'wake on lan'. In Windows (XP Pro), I can find a tool from MSI where I can setup a date/time for the PC to boot up, but nothing about WOL.
    Can it do WOL ?
    How does it work ?
    Thanks for your help,
    Rico

Wake On LAN, developed from Intel, provides remote wake-up technology that enables
systems to be remotely powered "on" for off hour’s tasks.
A result of the Intel-IBM Advanced Manageability Alliance and part of the
Wired for Management Baseline Specification, this technology helps save time on automated software
installations, upgrades, disk backups and virus scans.
Wake on LAN technology resides in a managed network adapter and on the system motherboard.
Please see the Intel web site for more information on WOL technology.

    I have K8N NEO4 Platinum, AMD FX55, 2X512 Crucial Ballistix PC4200, PowerColor X850XT VIVO, 3X74 HD WD Raptor.
I have a big problem with this motherboard and Video card.
I have set CPU clock at 250mhz (because I have DDR500), now the PCE clock is 100mhz. Is synchronous with CPU clock? If yes is there a moltiplicator to change the PCIE clock(my videocard is 400mhz), because It provokes artefacts in the Post , in the bios, and continues shutdown of the system( first appears the windows “VPU RECOVER”, than shutdown) and the visualization is full of artefacts.
The question is: Pcie clock is asynchronous or synchronous with CPU Clock, when is disable spectrum in cellmenu?

  • MSI K8N SLI Platinum and 4x512 DDR

    Hello everybody,
My problem is with a 2nd kit of 2x512 MB DDR I bought recently. I had a pair of  Kingston KHX3200ULK2 512 MB and unfortunately this model was discontinued, so I got another 2x512 MB DDR, this time Geil UltraX which should work @ 5-2-2-2-1T.
When leaving everything on auto, the motherboard sets the 4 modules at DDR333 with the tightest timing. I want to run them in DDR400, so I set them up manually @ 5-2-2-2-2T. In this config, everything is unstable. Sometimes the system doesn't boot, sometimes I get blue screens, etc.
Can somebody help me with some ideas ? The system appears to run stable with timings setup at 6-4-4-2-2T, but I really paid a lot on those modules and I'd like to squeeze the most out of them.
    Thanks in advance

Latest test I did: DDR400 with 5-2-3-2-2T. Ran Prime95 for more than 4 hours and no errors. Still have to check with some games, maybe a 3DMark in loop.
    Will come back with updates.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum and eVGA 7900GT KO 512 RoHS

Well here goes nothing... I have odd distortion while playing games.  It happens intermittently and there is no commonality for this problem.  When it occurs, the game seems to be continuing in the background as I can hear sound, move the mouse around, and even see the screen changing as I push my "asdw" keys.  I have included the following links so you can have a look:
    http://www.aarynandbrian.com/images/sims.jpg
    http://www.aarynandbrian.com/images/wow.jpg
    http://www.aarynandbrian.com/images/farcry.jpg
The links should explain which games they occured in.  Here are some details on the things I have done.
    1.  Clean install of XP
    2.  Clean install of nvidia forceware drivers (tried both non-beta and beta drivers, using driver cleaner in between)
    3.  RMA'ed my video card and got a brand new card, same issue
    4.  Changed PCI-E speed from 100MHz up to 110MHz (This was recommended by evga support)
    5.  Fine tuned the RAM for (2-3-3-6) 1T-2.7volts (recommended by corsair tech support)
    6.  All system device drivers updated
    7.  Verified video card is plugged in to one power rail by itself  with no other hardware (Power supply meets amp requirement)
    8.  Ran memtest86 for 24 hours with zero errors
    9.  Ran PCmark for multiple hours with zero errors
    10.  Ran 3dmark for multiple hours with zero errors (this is amazing to me since all the 3d games generate this error randomly every few hours or so)
    11.  Verified all firmware is updated
    12.  Verified all games are updated with latest patches
    13. Verified directX is updated
    14.  Verified the video card, cpu, mobo are not overheating by watching temp gauges when the issue occurs
    And last but not least....
    15.  Reformatted several times over and done all these steps over and over again.
Am I missing something?  I have owned dozens of gaming rigs over the years and I have never experienced this.  Are there some other test I can run?  Is there a compatability issue with this video card and motherboard?  eVGA is not wanting to give me any other cards since I've had two cards with the exact same problem. (I am aware of the 7900 series issues and my card revision is one of the new revisions.)
The only other cause I can think of is my video settings in the games.  Since I built this rig, I have been turning everything up as high as they can go since I figured it could handle it.  None of the games lag or chunk while playing so I have left them all the way up.  Is there a possability I have a video option on that is causing this problem? (I have NOT modified the Forceware Driver options in Windows.  I have only modified IN-GAME video settings and pushed them all the way up)
Any Advice would be incredible as I have been dealing with this for two months now.  I just want this thing to run like a champ.
    Thanks in advance,
    Brian

those pictures look messed up. sometimes my screen looks like that when windows boots, then is fine when the desktop comes up. it's like the monitor lost sync with the video card. i suppose you've tried turning the monitor off and on when that happens, but if not, try it. it might help...
it pretty much can't be the video card if you've replaced it, and compatibility issues shouldn't really cause a problem like that either. ram and cpu can't cause that problem either.
maybe the dvi cable is too long or bad quality or something. a problem with the psu or motherboard could cause the video card to screw up and do that, so you probably shouldn't rule those out.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum and Dual Core on Linux

I have solved my problem with getting both cores to work and thought I would post it here as info in case anyone encounters the same problem.
Bios 1.5 works fine, but when I installed it I used the option which prevents overwriting the boot block, and was only able to get one core to boot because of APIC problems. Doing a full flash prevented the IOAPIC bios setting from being turned off and allowed the board to be recognized as SMP compatible.
I guess part of the IOAPIC table must be in the boot block area

After few test i have changed a cd drive : from dvd-usb external to internal ide drive and W Xp
    setup corretly.
    But for me  new problem:
now i have first O/S on SATA1 and secondary O/S (installed now) on primary IDE 1 channel,
and in any root i have one  boot.ini  and both boot.ini have a similar  row (!?)
    First installed  on SATA1:
    [boot loader]
    timeout=0
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
    Second Insatalled on IDE1:
    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
The second O/S now dont boot:
my intention is to copy a row from second boot.ini to first boot.ini ; but i ask for  what parameter i use on "multi", "disk", "rdisk" ?
I hope on your help, please and sorry for my bad english.
    Thanks

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum and nVidia Firewall (NAM)

    Hi to all.
I have bought a computer to dive in the 64...
This is the first time that i need to install mobo drivers and utilities, i find them very useful.
Ok, i was reading about the hardware firewall, and the software that it needs to run. I found the folder in the MSI CD to install it, but give me an error, something about "user". I don´t know if is the cd or is windows error... I have WinXP pro SP2.
    I have two questions:
-Where can i find the latest NAM version to download in the nvidia website?  I only found the nforce4 standalone kit and unified driver (another thing, i don´t know what to install in my mobo...).
-Did you got the same problem?
    Thanks in advance.

    Ahi le has dado compañero!!
I will try that fix that GustavoR tolds me.
    Thanks.
the security is very important, i only have one pc and a router, with all of his ports opened (i preferred a firewall than a hard solution). I want to try this nvidia hard-soft option  to see how it works and if itś better that may lovely kerio
GustavoR, ¿que tal funciona el invento este? Funciona como un firewall soft que te va avisando cuando una aplicacion tiene que entrar o salir, o hay que abrir puertos en plan router...
(Transcription     How does it works? Works like a windows firewall soft, with his warnings and automatic rules? or like a router, opening the ports manually...)

  • XP64bit installation halts, K8N Neo4 Platinum - No SATA drives found?

    My setup:
    Athlon 64 3500+
    K8N Neo4 Platinum
    2GB OCZ 3200 Premier
    2) WD Sata 80GB HD's (for RAID 0)
    Nvidia 6800GT Extreme VGA
I was recently lucky enough to get my hands on a real Windows XP Pro64bit Extended Edition. I gathered quite a few 64bit drivers which claim to do the job (so they say.)
However I ran into a very strange issue during installation.
My main concern was getting RAID drivers to utilize after pressing F6 during the Windows install. Unfortunately I could not find Nvidia drivers so I went with the Silicon Image Sil3114 64bit drivers I got from their website. Copied them to a disk and thought I was ready to rock N roll. I have updated all BIOS to latest versions as of the date of this post.
Now I went into the RAID BIOS and setup my RAID 0 Array and both SATA drives are shown. All went well in this dept.
I began my installtion of XP64 and pressed F6 to install the RAID drivers. Popped the floppy in and the driver files were copied successfully.
I continued on to the point where you are prompted to setup Windows XP and it searches for any previous installs.
I continue to where I should get the dislmaimer and to press F8, however the install halts and say no hard drives were found. Setup cannot continue.
Any ideas as to why my drives are not being detected during installation? They show up fine under the RAID setup BIOS.
Any info or thoughts is truly appreciated.

You need to make your own floppy for the nvidia 64 ide drivers.

  • Problem replacing K8n Neo4 Platinum

Hello everybody, this is my first post here, I am a new member from Italy.
    I have this problem:
I own a K8n Neo4 Platinum and when I changed the VGA from Nvidia 6600 GT to 8600 GTS the Mobo doesn't post anymore.. The usb diagnostig bracket says it's a memory problem but when I've put my memory banks on a different PC, they work just fine.
I think the problem was caused by the little space that I had between the VGA and the chipset cooler (Zalman passive);when I installed the VGA I damaged the chipset. Taking a closer look at it I noticed that 1 edge is damaged. I also substituted the Power suplly but the result is always the same.
So I decided to replace the mobo but I don't want to reinstall windows. Finding my same mobo is impossible here in Europe. I only found the K8n Neo4-F.
My question is the following :
-Does this Mobo use the same drivers that were installed on my HD? (latest driver downloaded  from Nvidia version 6.86)
-Will I have problems with Windows ?

  • Considering the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum

    Hello,
I'm currently deciding whether or not to get the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum, and I just have a few questions.
    1) How beginner friendly is it?
    2) Does it take a lot of work to make it run or can you just plug everything up and the system will run fast and stable?
    3) How stable is this board? I've heard that MSI boards were unstable, so how stable is this specific board?
    4) I know this board is good at gaming, but how about office work like using Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.?
    5) I plan to keep this system for at least four years, will this motherboard give a lot of trouble? And how reliable is it?
    5) Can ya'll share your experiences with MSI?
    Thanks for any help.

Is the MSI website http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4_Platinum/SLI&class=mb where MSI names the board as "K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI" incorrect?  It wouldn't be the first time a typographical error occurred.
If not then the OP may simply have not had enough room to enter a complete description.
No it is not incorrect, I am staring at the box mine came in.  It says Platinum Edition-K8N Neo4/SLI, there is also a the non platinum version K8N Neo4/SLI and the non-SLI K8N Neo 4
    anyway,
    Quote
Maybe I'll get the Platinum SLI edition instead so that I can upgrade later to SLI without having to buy a new card. If I do get the SLI I'll use a single card for now and put in the second card later when it's needed. Does the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI have any problems with running a single video card in non-SLI mode? And I've noticed that the SLI edition doesn't have a x1 PCIe or x4 PCIe slot, is sacraficing these two slots (as well as a regular PCI slot) worth it for SLI capabilities?
to answer that question, no it does not have problems running a single card in non SLI mode.  It runs like a champ.  I pernonally would not use the extra PCI slots, so to me SLI outweighs scarificing the extra PICe slots.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum power on/off problem

    Hi all.
I just got a K8N Neo4 Platinum, and have a problem with switching it on and off.
When I switch on the mains to the PC PS(before turning the PC on), the fans start turning, and I hear disks spinning up. The PC power LED is off, but the HD LED is on. There is no picture on the monitor.
If I then switch the PC on, it boots normal, power LED is on, and the HD LED is normal. The PC is working absolutely normal, with winXP.
But when I turn the PC off again, the fans remain on, power LED goes off, HD LED on. And I can't switch the PC on again, till I have toggled the mains supply.
I have tried measuring what comes on the power connector. It looks like there is still 12V when the PC is supposed to be switched off. Don't know if that is right.
There is also 5VSB and PWR OK, but I think they are supposed to be there.
I hope I have been able to explain the problem in understandable english.

That the comp turn itself on when the different front side connectors etc isnt in, i dont think that's a problem with ur PSU.
Same thing happend to me when i forgot to plug them in a couple of days ago. I got a Tagan 480W, and its flawless!
Have u ever considered unplugging everything, and doing it from the beginning? ......
I have tried from the beginning many times, but it's always failing.
BUT..... Today I got a new K8N Neo4 Platinum from a vendor next door to where I work, and it works perfectly
I had a suspicion that the motherboard was causing the fail, but couldn't be sure without trying a new one. Now the first one is going back to the shop where I bought it.
Thanks to all for all the suggestions you have come up with.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra and 4 GB SDRAM DDR 400 Problem

I have the K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra and 4 1GB sticks of Corsair ValueSelect DDR 400 (PC 3200), model VS1GB400C3, filling all four slots. The BIOS recognizes about 2.88 GB of total memory. The MSI manual states:
    Quote
Due to the South Bridge resource deployment, the system density
will only be detected up to 3+GB (not full 4GB) when each
DIMM is installed with an 1GB memory module.
I'm not sure what this means. Does it mean that I'm "wasting" my SDRAM, that not all of it is used, or does it mean that all of it will be used and the BIOS just reports a smaller number?

    Hi.
You seems not familiar with X86....
As you should know, Windows XP and most OS are 32 bits. That mean that every memory pointer is 32 bits, thus allowing to address 4Gb of memory.
    BUT
In most OS, there is a difference between the kernel and the user. So, in most OS, the memory is divided in two 2Gb block (no matter how many Gb of Ram you really have!). The first one is for the OS, the 2nd for the user program.
So, If you have for example 3Gb of ram, in the best case, you have 1gb for system and 2Gb for user program.
To allow more Ram to fonction, PAE (Physical Address Extension) was made. Instead of 32, you got 36 bits for you pointers.
But as X86-32 CPUs can't handle more than 32 bits, a reserved area was made within 4Gb to allow Memory to be copied from the area the program want to read.
    Exemple:
You got a server with 8Gb of ram. In windows, you only see 3.5+512Mb PAE.
If a program need to address memory in the 7-7.5 Range for example, the chipset copy the data from the 7-7.5 range to the 3.5-4 range in order to allow the CPU to get access: that's VERY slow.
So, in short: You can't have and don't need 4Gb of ram on 32bits OS.
(And there's even more place occupied by every card (AGP, PCI, PCI-e)....)
That's why XP64 is so interresting for programmers who needs lots of ram (Database....). When used with a chipset who know how to deal with lots of ram (I don't know if NForce4 can do it but I doubt it), you can load in memory a 4Gb Database.
But In all case, the bios should say 3.5Gb, not 2 and so on. You must have a problem with one of your stick. My guess is that they are all double sided and that you should slow down the memory to 333MHz.
(Or better: Send back 2x1Gb stick and get 2x512 SINGLE SIDED stick, unless you REALLY NEED 1.5Gb for your system !)
