K8N Neo4 Platinum Non-SLI

System Specs:
K8N Neo4 Platinum
AMD A64 3200+
1 Gig Kingston 333 Ram(2x512)
MSI Theater 550 Tuner
Hauppauge WinTV-500MCE
80 GB System Drive
200 GB Media Drive
MSI 6600GT PCIe
Windows MCE 2005, rollup 2
For some reason I can't get 5.1 out via either SPID/F interface(optical or coaxial).  It was working before, so I don't know what I messed up, but here's the setup.  This is set in my living room, with the SPID/F out going to a Sony Reciever for 5.1 decoding.  Like I said, it used to work, I don't know what the issue is now.
Windows speaker configuration is set to 5.1 speakers, as is the MCE app.  I also have the RealTek Manager app set with with the correct speaker layout, but I'm only getting stereo out now.  The reciever I've isolated, and it isn't the problem.  But like I said, it was working before, but now I'm at a loss.  Any help will be appreciated.

Hello !!
First try to deinstall all sound drivers completly, then reinstall them. Make sure your 5.1 system works properly.
Make sure you have the right output mode selected. (analog / digital )

All that has been done and tried, and and done and tried againn, and then I broke a plate, and then done and tried again.

  • New K8N NEO4 Platinum (non SLi) wont leave boot screen???

    I just went out and purchased:
    AMD Athlon 3000+
    K8N NEO4 Platinum
    Some standard case with a 450w power suply
    On the +12v it says I have 18a
    And Im using some things from my old PC:
    (PCI) ATI Radeon 9200se (CrapTastic!)
    Maxtor 40Gig (not Sata)
    1x Samsung  PC2700 DDR 512mb RAM
    This is my first PC build and I ran into a couple of problems:
    I have tried 3 different PS/2 keyboards(2 older and 1 newer) and none of them work. It shows the Platinum screen and then goes to a different screen that says "Keyboard error or not plugged in"
    So I try my USB keyboard that I got about a year ago and the lights flash on the kb when I first start up but.....once I get to the Platinum screen the keyboard becomes unresponsive and I cant move off the Platinum Screen into BIOS or anything.
    PLEASE HELP!

    Well I went out and purchased a USB to PS/2 adapter and plugged it in with the USB keyboard that would light up but still not work and......................... STILL DID NOT WORK!
    Im going on 2 weeks now with no Counter-Strike:Source and im goin nuts

    Grimster i agree totaly with jeanguy, you need around 25-30amps min on these boards, so try a mates psu.
    Do I really need more than 18a with my system? How much money (ballpark) in US dollars do you think a adequate PSU for my rig would cost???
    I am really thinking of just takeing it back and getting it replaced with the same mobo and see if that works.

  • Neo4 Platinum (Non-SLi) Audio Plug

    I only purchased my computer on friday (17th of June) from a local retailer, and after the initial struggles i have only the one issue left.
    i read other topics about on-board audio issues relating to psu conflicts and missing voltage rails (way over my head) but to my understanding that was only to the Diamond and the Neo4 Plantinum SLi versions only.  I have the non-SLi version so here is another topic.
    Having updated bios and audio drivers and done everything else i can think of - the Front Channel plug of the on-board audio is completely dead.  not that the speakers dont work, and as far as i can tell not that the drivers dont work, but well and truely dead, nothing comes out speakers/audio devices connected to the Front Channel plug, not even EMI.
    All other channels work fine, and i was almost prepared to purchase a Audigy 2 sound card but also noticed a (long) topic regarding errors there too.  Naturally id like to avoid additional purchases if i can, so i thought i might ask the question:  Can i / should i send it to be repaired/replaced?
    I noticed there is a 7 day dead-on-arrival warrenty, but not sure if this applies to me as i bought it from a local computer store (brand new in the box and invoiced tho)

    Ah ok i didnt know who i could take it to to repair.
    I installed the drivers off the cd the first time, and after they didnt appear to be working i then formatted the PC and installed those Realtek AC97 drivers.  Unfortunately, if i plug the rear speakers into the front channel and the front speakers into the rear channel - the front speakers will play music from the rear channel fine, but the rear speakers on the front channel will be dead.
    Thanks for ya time.

  • Help : MSI Neo4 Platinum (non-SLi)

    Hi,
    I just switch from a long time Asus Intel user to MSI AMD based rig (I am more into video editing & encoding than gaming). I bought a MSI Neo4 Platinum with AMD 3200+ (Venice) and from my old system, I have the Corsair TwinX XMS PC4000 ram and a RAID 0 setup with 2 X WD 74GB Raptor.
    Can anyone help me on :
    1) which slot should I installed my ram in order to run Dual Channel
    2) How do I perform moderate overclocking with this MSI Neo4
    3) which will be recommended HSF for moderate overclocking
    4) Will I experience the 219 BUG when overclocking

    hgled8888,
    They are all good heatsinks, I do not think you will go wrong with any of them.
    As for the BIOS, the difference is Award vs Phoenix. I use mobos from Abit, ASUS, and MSI, you get used to them, if you can get though one BIOS, you will have little trouble getting used to the other.
    As for moving over from "The Dark Side of the Force" over to AMD, welcome to the other side, you will love it and never look back.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum/Diamond SLI BIOS reports

    Hi,
    I'm seriously thinking about getting one of the above mentioned boards.  It's between those and the new DFIs.  I've seen the link to the latest Beta BIOS available for those boards and they sound quite promising.  I've heard the latest Beta allows up to 3.1V VDimm control.  Anyone want to comment on the overall improvements made with the BIOS revisions?  Also, general impressions with the board with regards to overclocking especially would be very welcome.  I've done a bunch of reading, but there just aren't that many posts about this.
    Thanks,
    Adrian

    The mods move overlocking posts to  the "modding and overclocking" forum!
    My observations are this:-
    I tested my system using memtest at various FSB's which gave the correct stock speed for each CPU multiplier, 200x11,2200x10 etc. In each case Memtest gave the same speed for the L1 and L2 cache, indicating these are drven by the CPU core speed, not the FSB. This means there is no intrinsic value in using a higher FSB for CPU, the only benefit comes if doing so allows you run the  memory faster! You might say the AMD64 FSB is the on die bus which connects the on die CPU core to the on die memory controller. Increasing the FSB just increases the bandwith beteen the core and memory controller, allowing you to benefit from using faster memory.
    So  yes, you can achieve fantastic FSB's with this  chipset. I have managed to booted at 340!  But this didn't improve performance one jot as I had to use a huge memory devisor. But if I had PC5400 memory my system would really fly!
    P.S. For some strange reason running my memory asynchronously allows it to be overlocked more. That's why I boot at 250.

    It maybe the same problem I encountered.  This Post:  https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=90337.0
    Try starting your FSB at 230 and working up from there, if It becomes unstable at 237 ish then it is most likely the same memory controller/ ram problem I encountered.
    Unfortunately I had to pull two sticks of memory to get mine to work, and I believe that it was just a bad stick , but I havent gotten new stuff in yet to prove or disprove that assumption.  Either way the way these bioses handle different kinds of memory at different dividers is frustrating to say the least.

  • Strange power-on (issue?) with K8N Neo4 Platinum

    Hi all, i have a new K8N Neo4 Platinum, non-sli.
    My rig:
    A643000+ winch, no overclock
    2x512MB Corsair XMS DDR400MHz
    2x200GB Seagate mirroring
    Plextor PX-708A
    BenQ DVD Burner
    AN OLD Matrox Mystique 4MB PCI  (new pci-e gfx card later...)
    A powerfull enermax coolergiant 600W ATX 2.0 power supply
    Latest official nforce4 drivers and bios
    It seems to be ok: installed winXP pro sp2 and updates, installed two Seagate in raid-mirroring with the nforce4 controller, installed some progs and utils, firewall is ok, prime95 go without problems for 1 our (more tests later), cpu temp is 34°C and sys temp is 30°C.
    CoreCenter Say:
    Vcore -> 1.41V
    3.3V -> 3.39V
    +5V -> 5.13V
    +12V -> 12.26V
    memory volt -> 2.60V
    FSB -> 200MHz
    PCI-E -> 100MHz
    cpu volt -> By-VID
    Apparently no weird things...
    When i switch-on the Pc, for some seconds(  ̃10 secs) it don't want to boot, optical drives blink repeatly and the screen is blank, like a bad overclock... But the machine isn't overclocked, and the bios is ok, i think. After 10 secs, finally it go and run flawlessly, post and other things are ok. When i reboot in win, the 10secs-issue repeat itself. So this strange thing at the post is normal? Anyone with the same "problem"? For now the rig is ok when it logon in winXP...

    Hi all my friends
    @JER101 >>> Ehrr i mean post, sorry
    I had unplugged the optical drives, but the problem persist. When plugged, they blink for some times and after blinking the machine go into post-phase and after it boot in the correct manner. I think the PCI card is the problem, like some of you said... I will buy one pci-e card (obviously), but i hope things are not dangerous for now
    In the mean time, i have a new problem: emule+firewall=BSOD. I know, there are tons of post about this issue around, but the solution is unclear... Tried to disable DEP, patched WinXP SP2 with latest things from winupdate, but nothing work for me, emule and the firewall generate a crash&reboot. Tried with the Marvell LAN, too, without success.
    Any suggestions? Usefull links? If i uninstall the "NVIDIA Forceware Network Access Manager" it will work without problem with a thirdy part firewall, like sysgate?
    P.S.
    What's the problem with nvidia drivers? C'mon nvidia, solve this damned issue!

  • IDE cables bundled with K8N Neo4 Platinum--80 wire or 40 wire?

    Is the rounded IDE cable that comes with the K8N Neo4 Platinum (non-SLI) mobo an 80 wire or 40 wire cable?  How can one tell?
    I think I may be having some UDMA issues with my second hard drive (120GB Barracuda 7200.7 IDE).  I installed XP on my SATA drive with no other drives connected and then added this IDE drive.
    The rest of my setup is in my sig.
    Thanks!
    Bruce

    OK.  I checked my device manager for the info on my IDE drive.  I looked at the properties of NVIDIA nForce4 Parallel ATA Controller.
    Primary Channel:
    HD Model # is ST3120026A.  The drive set up as Ultra DMA 5 - Ultra 100.  Checked boxes are "Let BIOS select transfer mode, Enable read caching, and Enable write caching.  I did a speed test from Windows and it shows Theoretical limit of 100, Burst speed of 86.3 and Sustained speed of 58.1.
    Secondary Channel:
    DVD: _NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A.  Transfer mode is Ultra DMA2 - Ultra 33.  This is using a flat ribbon cable from an older computer.  The only box checked is "Let BIOS select transfer mode".
    Do these both look OK or do I need to change something?
    Then I looked at the properties of NVIDIA nForce4 ADMA Controller and found:
    My SATA drive (my boot drive) is HD model # ST3160812AS.  Transfer mode is PIO Mode.  Boxes checked are "Enable read caching, Enable write caching, and Enable command queuing.  There is a yellow triangle that says "Transfer mode downgraded".  I can't do a speed test.
    What do I need to do to operate in Serial ATA Generation 2 - 3G?  This is how this drive is supposed to operate.
    Thanks!
    Bruce

  • Thermaltake Silent Purepower 480W for K8N NEO4 Platinum

    after much debacle of what psu to propel my MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum (Non SLI model) it has become clear to me that the only real choice i have within my reach is the thermaltake silentpurepower 480w, this is simply the best power supply i can get down here (Colombia, South America) and the most expensive one too.
    i have done my fair share of research on the matter and have found a number of people using this power supply to power systems based on the K8N NEO4 Platinum, even some have been bold enough to use the SLI version of the board with this power supply.
    so i guess its go for broke time on the matter, any feedback ?

    Quote from: Stick on 26-January-06, 23:13:33
    i have the buterfly model http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/2005/purepower/W001920.htm
    it has a 20 pin connector and a 20 to 24 pin convertor, so you can plug it in both ways
    from what ive seen its the same psu with different accesories, but its the same psu, so i guess this is it. Im gonna connect the 20pin to the 24 connector in the motherboard as those 20 to 24 adapters dont seen to generate any kind of trust in me, i guess as long as i keep my present setup and i dont overclock everything should run just fine.
    many thanks...

  • Issues with K8N Neo4 Platinum Socket 939 and Athlon64 3000+ Venice

    Hello everyone, I am planning a long overdue upgrade of my system. Right now I'm looking at the K8N Noe4 Platinum (non SLI) mobo with a Athlon 64 3000+ Venice CPU.
    I haven't seen any posts saying NO DON'T PUT THESE TOGETHER but then maybe I've missed something. Any comments would be appreciated, if you know if any problems that seem common between these two please let me know. Thanks!

    there is no problem with them.Just make sure if you can that it will come with the latest Bios that full support Venice core.If not ,then it is easy to update it afterwords.
    Just also make sure that with you upgrade that you will have a real good PSU more than 450W or/and with 26-35 A on the +12V rail.
