K8n neo4 & power supply: doubt

Hi,
i' m building my new system with msi neo4 platinum and a Tagan TG480-U01 PSU.
i' have a terrible doubt about power supply connectors to plug in. My tagan gives me:
1- an ATX 20 pin connector + an atx 4 pin connector (i can join them togheter to obtain a 24 pin connector)
2- two 4 pin connectors (i can join them togheter to obtain an 8 pin connector), and one of them fit into the JPW1 plug on the mobo.
My question is: which connectors i have to plug?
Actually i plugged the entire 24 pin connector and the 4 pin that fit into JPW1 (PSU manual refers to this conn. as "12V/P4 ATX/BTX 4-pin" and to the entire 8 pin as "EPS12V 8-pin").
I' ll not switch the power on on my new system if not sure about that question, so please help me!
Thanks.
P.S. sorry for my bad english.

From viewing all the connection possibilities here---> http://www.water-cooling.com/reviews/tagan/1.php  Your Tagan TG480-U01 comes with a native 24-pin EPS-12V connector, so that goes to the motherboard.  You then plug in the square 4-pin AUX12V connector for the cpu power and you are in business.

  • K8N Neo4 Power Supply Issues

    I'm having trouble getting my computer to even start up. I have the Rosewill Performance TU153 case and Athlon 64 3200+ processor, as well as 2x512 MB ram (PQI) and a seagate 80 GB hard drive.  I plugged the power supply wires into the AGX1 slot and JPW1 slot. Then, for the front panel connectors, I plugged in the HDD LED, Reset Switch, Power Switch, and Power LED into the appropriate slots in the JFP1 (with the colored part of the wires going into the positive slot). But the computer doesn't even start up at all. When I flip the switch on the back of the case, the LED will sometimes flicker on and off.

    Hi gandalf85,
    Welcome to the forum
    What are the output amps for your Power supply - should appear ob the side of the unit something like like
    Max Output : 3.3v=??A 5v=??A 12v=??A
    The 12v in particular is important with AMD64 systems.

  • Power Supply Selecton for K8N Neo4 Plat. Ultra

    I am looking at 3 PSU's for this MotherBoard and following setup below.
    MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum Ultra Socket 939
    MSI NX6600GT PCIE Video Card
    2- WD Raptors 36 GB
    1- DVD/RW
    1- CD/RW
    2- Sticks Crucial Ballistic 1GB Matched Pair
    1- Floppy Drive
    2- 120mm Case Fans
    2- 80mm Case Fans
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    Power supplies in question:
    OCZ45012U 3.3v Rail=28a  5v Rail=45a  12v Rail=26a  INPUT 10/6a
    OCZ52012U 3.3v Rail=28a  5v Rail=45a  12v Rail=26a  INPUT 12/6a
    Rosewill RP550 3.3v Rail=30a  5v Rail=50a  12v Rail=35a
    The only difference I can see in the 2 OCZ's, is the INPUT. The 450 OCZ is about a $30.00 cheaper than the 520 OCZ.
    Can someone tell me what effect the INPUT amp would make??
    Thanks for any and all advice.
    Modified by workknot to complete the Post.
    Regards; Pop's

    Thanks to all that have responded to this topic. I did some more searching and was able to determine some more facts on both of the OCZ PSU's.
    OCZ45012U  3.3v = 28a  5v = 45a  12v = 26a  Peak Load 60 Sec. 550W   INPUT 10/6a   Price: $89.99
    OCZ52012U  3.3v = 28a  5v = 52a  12v = 28a  Peak Load 60 Sec. 620W   INPUT 12/6a   Price: $108.99
    Now I can clearly see that the OCZ52012U is stronger on the +5V rail and the +12V rail. For less than $20.00 in the prices, I have for now decided to go with the OCZ52012U and it looks as though it will suit my needs just fine. The confusion to start with was some information on the NewEgg site that had some specs incorrect. I found the correct specs by looking directly at the power supply stickers on both units.

  • K8N NEO4 new old power supply died new power supply installed will not boot

    This is an old build. The K8N NEO4 powers up and is followed by a long beep. The lights on the back of the USB card (4 lights( indicate 3 greens and one red in the upper right corner. According to the instruction manual, this means that Initializing Floppy Drive Controller
    This will initialize Floppy Drive and controller. This makes no sense.
    I flashed the CMOS both using the red button and removing the motherboard battery to confirm the power supply was bad. In hindsight, I wish I had not.
    I switched from a 500W power suppply that died to a 430W thermaltake power supply. I've disconnected a hard drive and a burner to see if power was an issue, it was not the cause.
    I'm pulling my hair out here, please help!

    "Is it possible the power supply took the CPU with it when it died?"
     Yes it's possible that it did that. It's also possible that other components were killed also, that's why changing and trying different parts are required until you find everything that may have been damaged. We can only suggest what might be bad and you or someone else will need to do the actual work, there is no getting around that. We can give the serious advice, you need to do the serious labor.
    "...don't want to take the Tuniq tower 120 off if another processor will not work"
     Anybody that repairs PC's would need to swap parts to be 100% sure of what's wrong.
    Pin #20 is where -5V would be if newer PSU's still had -5V. The only the reason you would need the -5V is if you had an older K8N MB that had Creative sound on it instead of Realtek.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum recommended power supply?

    What is the minimum power supply I can use on this board?  The reason I ask is my PS just went out and I have a 300W laying around, I tried to use the 300W just to test to make sure it was the power supply, and the computer turns on with the 300W but the monitor doesn't come on like it's booting up.  Should the monitor come on when it is booting up with the 300W power supply or is it just not getting enough juice?  Keep in mind with the 300W I disconnected all non-essentials

    300W is way too low for any modern system.
    We can't say if a system will start with such a PSU or not.
    Too many factors involved.
    I have a system here 3800X2 with a 300W PSU, it boots, but as soon as I put some stress on it, the PSU shuts down.
    Pure luck it boots at all.
    Going to put a 500W PSU in it of a decend brand to stop this shutting down.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI power supply connection

    I was wondering if the power connection type to the motherboard mattered.  Does it need to be a 24 pin connection like what is on the board or would just a 20 pin connection, possibly with the other 4 pin connection along side it, be efficient at powering this board?

    Quote from: bluesky_2005 on 14-April-05, 22:55:00
    Hi,
    I've notices that loads of people have an issue with power supply & SLI systems (AMD 64). It seems there is no ideal solution yet
    Actually there are very good solutions, but many don't purchase the correct power supply at the time of the pruchase of their SLI motherboard.    Same problem occured with users transitioning to Pentium III processors and the use of the old 250 Watt power supplies.
    We just like to hold onto our parts as long as possible.    Going with one of the supplies listed on http://www.SLIZONE.com will usually be a safe bet.
    As to using the 20 pin connection instead of the 24pin, many have reported that it works.   The additional pins are providing better amp support to the parts that need it, so I would consider a 20 pin without an adapter temporary.   For a $7.00 part fix, it's worth it.
    The point is that the copper traces on the motherboard may eventually fail if there is significant current demands and only the 20 pin is used, hasn't happened yet, but it's possible.   The gauge wire used for the PSU though is more than sufficient in comparision, so that's why an adapter will help protect your motherboard investment.

  • HELP!! K8N Neo4/SLI Power Supply problem

    Hi. I really need help.
    I'm upgrading my computer and using my old case, a raidmax case with a 420w power supply.
    The problem is, i discovered that the power supply for the motherboard is only 20 pin, while the motehrboard asks for 24 pin. I discovered that I can fit the 20 pin in theere, but still, 4 pin will be left empty. Is that okay? Or do I need a new power supply.
    Thanks!

  • Strange power-on (issue?) with K8N Neo4 Platinum

    Hi all, i have a new K8N Neo4 Platinum, non-sli.
    My rig:
    A643000+ winch, no overclock
    2x512MB Corsair XMS DDR400MHz
    2x200GB Seagate mirroring
    Plextor PX-708A
    BenQ DVD Burner
    AN OLD Matrox Mystique 4MB PCI  (new pci-e gfx card later...)
    A powerfull enermax coolergiant 600W ATX 2.0 power supply
    Latest official nforce4 drivers and bios
    It seems to be ok: installed winXP pro sp2 and updates, installed two Seagate in raid-mirroring with the nforce4 controller, installed some progs and utils, firewall is ok, prime95 go without problems for 1 our (more tests later), cpu temp is 34°C and sys temp is 30°C.
    CoreCenter Say:
    Vcore -> 1.41V
    3.3V -> 3.39V
    +5V -> 5.13V
    +12V -> 12.26V
    memory volt -> 2.60V
    FSB -> 200MHz
    PCI-E -> 100MHz
    cpu volt -> By-VID
    Apparently no weird things...
    When i switch-on the Pc, for some seconds(  ̃10 secs) it don't want to boot, optical drives blink repeatly and the screen is blank, like a bad overclock... But the machine isn't overclocked, and the bios is ok, i think. After 10 secs, finally it go and run flawlessly, post and other things are ok. When i reboot in win, the 10secs-issue repeat itself. So this strange thing at the post is normal? Anyone with the same "problem"? For now the rig is ok when it logon in winXP...

    Hi all my friends
    @JER101 >>> Ehrr i mean post, sorry
    I had unplugged the optical drives, but the problem persist. When plugged, they blink for some times and after blinking the machine go into post-phase and after it boot in the correct manner. I think the PCI card is the problem, like some of you said... I will buy one pci-e card (obviously), but i hope things are not dangerous for now
    In the mean time, i have a new problem: emule+firewall=BSOD. I know, there are tons of post about this issue around, but the solution is unclear... Tried to disable DEP, patched WinXP SP2 with latest things from winupdate, but nothing work for me, emule and the firewall generate a crash&reboot. Tried with the Marvell LAN, too, without success.
    Any suggestions? Usefull links? If i uninstall the "NVIDIA Forceware Network Access Manager" it will work without problem with a thirdy part firewall, like sysgate?
    P.S.
    What's the problem with nvidia drivers? C'mon nvidia, solve this damned issue!

  • K8N Neo4 delayed power on

    I've been racking my brain over this issue for the last few days... first my system configuration is as follows.
    MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum (bios 1.D0)
    Opteron 165 (and no I have not overclocked this machine)
    Corsair XMS 1gb (2x512) dual Channel ram
    MSI Rx800 X800xl PCI-E video card
    Antec Neo480w PSU
    Sound blaster X-FI
    2 Maxtor 120 IDE drives 7200rpm
    1 52x Lite-on CDRW
    1 NEC DVDRW
    Windows Xp Service pack 2
    What happens is; If I unplugged the computer from power for a minute or two, say to move it....  when I plug the machine back in and press the power button, nothing happens.  If I walk away and come back later.. sometimes it will already be running, other times I can simply hit the power button and it fires right back up.  Now if I shut the machine down while it is plugged in and then press the power button it fires right up.
    I first thought it was a case ground issue, as I had recently replaced the fan on the motherboard.  So I took the motherboard, PSU, video card and assembled them on an anti-static bag on the table.... and get the same result.  I have tested the power supply in another machine so I do not believe that is the issue.  I've swapped power cables, surge protectors, tried different configurations of the ram (tried each single stick by itself), swapped in another video card.
    Once the machine actually boots up it runs fine, I have no issues what-so-ever, as long as I don't loose power!  I think, though not sure that the longer I leave it unplugged the longer it takes to come back on... though I haven't really tested that.  My only thought at this point is that it could be something on the board?  Any thoughts would be great.
    I just thought that I would post here before trying an RMA as really don't want to send it out unless I really have to.

      I also have a 3rd system which I suspect is getting ready to quit: the symptom here is that the network switch it's connected to looks like it's "chattering" with the computer powered off... again a 5VSB issue I believe.
    This is interesting as I just noticed that one of the onboard nic's was flashing though the rest of the system showed no signs of getting power, no fans turning etc.  Sounds like a replacement power supply is in order.  I appreciate the suggestions, and will post back results once I get one.  For the time being it looks like I'm on a short cord

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum power on/off problem

    Hi all.
    I just got a K8N Neo4 Platinum, and have a problem with switching it on and off.
    When I switch on the mains to the PC PS(before turning the PC on), the fans start turning, and I hear disks spinning up. The PC power LED is off, but the HD LED is on. There is no picture on the monitor.
    If I then switch the PC on, it boots normal, power LED is on, and the HD LED is normal. The PC is working absolutely normal, with winXP.
    But when I turn the PC off again, the fans remain on, power LED goes off, HD LED on. And I can't switch the PC on again, till I have toggled the mains supply.
    I have tried measuring what comes on the power connector. It looks like there is still 12V when the PC is supposed to be switched off. Don't know if that is right.
    There is also 5VSB and PWR OK, but I think they are supposed to be there.
    I hope I have been able to explain the problem in understandable english.

    That the comp turn itself on when the different front side connectors etc isnt in, i dont think that's a problem with ur PSU.
    Same thing happend to me when i forgot to plug them in a couple of days ago. I got a Tagan 480W, and its flawless!
    Have u ever considered unplugging everything, and doing it from the beginning? ......
    I have tried from the beginning many times, but it's always failing.
    BUT..... Today I got a new K8N Neo4 Platinum from a vendor next door to where I work, and it works perfectly
    I had a suspicion that the motherboard was causing the fail, but couldn't be sure without trying a new one. Now the first one is going back to the shop where I bought it.
    Thanks to all for all the suggestions you have come up with.

  • K8N Neo4 JPW1 Required? No Post, power light just blinks

    When I try to turn on my motherboard, it just shuts back down (1/10 sec.)  My SilenX powersupply doesn't have a 4 pin 12V aux connector.  Just the main 24pin and an 8pin aux.  So I'm guessing that's my problem.
    So this board won't post without the JPW1 Aux 12V connector?
    Plus does anyone know what it's trying to say with a blinking power led?
    I've unplugged everything external.  Just 1 OCZ memory stick plus the cpu cooling fan.
    What other PS's that is working with the K8N Neo4 Platinium?
    Thanks for any info.

    FastEddie: Thanks you for the update.  I wasn't sure if it was required, since the manual just says for stable operation.
    Tiresmoke:  The power supply is a top quality 600W, so with just the MB/CPU/1 stick of memory, no external devices I dought it's overloading.  Until I can get power to the Aux connector nothing is for sure.
    If people can post what brand/model of power supplies (has the 4 pin 12V connector) that works consistently with the K8N Neo4, that sure would help others.
    Thanks, -Joseph-

  • Garbled display on 1st Power on. K8N Neo4 SLI & 6600GT. 4 green leds

    I assembled my 3700 San Diego, K8N Neo 4 Platinum SLI, MSI 6600GT with OCZ 520W PS.  On my first power on, following occurred.
    1.  Got 1 beep & went through all LED lights winding up with 4 green LEDs finally hanging with a totally grabled display CRT screen.  Could only make out a couple of letters V
    2.  When I removed the Raptor HD connection & restarted, it loaded Win 64 setup (from DVD ROM since it couldn't find HD)winding up with a garbled screen but I could barely make out the familiar Windows setup continue words, so I'm at least at a point when I could start installing Windows.
    3.  The 6600GT has no power pins, so it can't be that. CRT connection is tight.  I took out the card & put it back in. Same garbled display.
    I tried a LCD display...same garbled look. All else looks okay.  Forum searches only gave a clue that initial display drivers all come from the 6600GT card to get one started.  I can't do anything in BIOS  as I can't tell if del is getting me into BIOS and even if it is, I can't read it to do anything. I can't do anything with driver updates as Win 64 isn't installed.  I haven't tried resetting BIOS
    Anyone have a similar experience?
    Regards, Ron

    No solution yet. What model CPU are you running?  You might want to add your signature sytem so people on this board can know what you're running in the way of cpu, power, mobo, etc.  I ordered another MSI 6600GT td128e from ZipZoomFly.  It should arrive Monday.  If it also fails, then it must be the K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI.
    I tried a 3d monitor and tried another Power Supply, took out 1 memory card.  Nothing works.  I have an RMA in to ZZF. If it fails Monday with the 2d card, they said I could send the whole assembly of mobo, graphics cards and 3700 back for them to check out.  If it works, it means it's the intial 6600GT & I'll just send that back.  This makes 3 of us now that have this problem.  Other guy has an RMA in also to ZZF. See my post at https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=81206.0   I talked to MSI by phone; they couldn't offer anything except possibly defective card or graphics slot on the mobo.  They never did answer my problem submission from their web site
    I posted a question that if both LED checks #6 and #9 are green and these appear to check for VGA, does this mean it's unlikely that it's the mobo. No answer yet.
    I have an uneasy feeling, though that it's not the 6600GT & that the 2d one will fail also.  I tried to find a computer repair shop in White Plains, NY that might be able to test out the card for me for a fee, but amazingly most have gone out of business, and few others only repair full systems you bring in.  Also, AMD64 and SLI are pretty new technologies so maybe nobody has a system around.

  • Which power supply for k8n neo2 Platinum

    I need to buy a new power supply for my computer. With the ATX12V v2.2 standard and ATX12V 2.01 and the "no -5v on new psu's" issue I'm at a loss as to what to look for. I have looked and cannot find what "standard" (is that even the correct term?) the k8n neo2 supports.
    My main requirement is that the psu be 550-650 watts and have modular cables. I know someday I will have to upgrade my system to PCI-E and modern components, so I would like a PSU that would work now and in the future.
    Could someone point me in the right direction?
    Many thanks

     Why do you need 550-650W or is that just because of future needs? I would suggest one of the Corsair +12V single rail modular PSU's if you insist on the modular design. Check newegg for what they have for modular in the Corsair lineup. I'm sure you're aware that their price is considerably higher than the non-modular. K8 MB's that needed -5V are the early ones that had Creative Sound Blaster onboard audio.

     That's what it is now but if you don't need it in a big hurry you can probably wait a while and get for the same price but with free shipping.
     Edit: Gee, Ultra with blown caps, I just happen to have a xPRO 800W that blew some caps, repaired it and started going bad again and then got my TX650 to replace it. Got it for $70 after rebate (which I haven't received yet) by waiting for the right price, rebate and free shipping. VX550 would have been good enough but at the time I got the TX650 at a lower price.

  • K8N Diamond Plus Power Supply Issue?????

    I just recently got my pc functional.  I am getting an error from the nvidia software about the power supply. I am running a 600W supply. This machine has 2 western digital 250g hard drives, 1 western digital 500g hard drive, 2 nvidia 7900 gtx w/512mb single gpu graphics cards, 1 floppy drive, 1 dvd-cdrw burner, 1 13-n-1 media reader, case has 2 - 120mm fans, 1 cpu fan, 1 nb fan, built in sound blaster audigy, about 8 usb 2.0 ports, a couple of firewire ports. The mobo is the K8N Diamond Plus MSI board. The nvidia software keeps telling me that the video cards aren't getting enough juice. With 600w is this possible? The power supply is made by Ultra. Any insite would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Did you connect the pci-express connectors from your power supply to the connectors on the video cards? If your power supply is indeed not sufficient then take a look at this one. It will easily handle your system..

    Hi Baz, thanks for your reply.
    POST still fails when PSU is in combined mode. I don't have a second stick of DDR available right now (am trying to borrow some from a friend) , but i have tried just using one stick (once with each stick in case one was faulty) and still I got the 4 red LEDs on the D-LED panel.
    could try the other ram slots on the mobo i guess in case that makes a difference.
