K8N Neo4 RAID 0 - Windows 7 32-bit set up

 I currently have Win Vista 32-bit in a RAID 0 configuration running on my K8N Neo4 without any issues. I'd like to upgrade to Windows 7 and retain the benefits of a RAID 0 configuration.
 Question; Does the the Windows 2000/XP 32bit driver posted on the MSI work?
Thanks.

It is a well known fact that nforce4 chipset's nv SATA RAID is not supported in Win7.
Should you have trouble getting nv SATA RAID working on these older chipsets while installing Win7, have a look here:

  • K8N Neo4-FI Windows install problems (S-Ata problems)

    Hi
    Last week I "upgraded" my computer from Nforce3 (Radeon 9800 Pro) to Nforce4 (Radeon X800GTO) and when I did setup everything the platinum screen just hang but after removing all usb devices and tried to plug one after one in to the computer I located the problem the motherboard didnt like my keyboard so I changed it and I was able to boot, but then another problem came, I cant install windows XP at all, after booting with the cd this white text "checking something computer configuration" and then everything gets black and nothing more happens,
    I tried to change memory from (Corsair 3200XL to some other) and still the same problem, did also try to unplug the hdd, floppy and also tried to change the Graphic card from X800GTO to X600 but still no luck.
    What can be wrong, I managed to install windows 2003 sever but I really hate when something doesnt work, doesnt feel ok
    EDIT:
    I have a 3200+ Winchester cpu, 1024 Corsair 3200XL mem and Tagan 430W psu and Connect3d X800 GTO Graphic
    EDIT2:
    I have now located the problem to my S-ata discs, when I unplug them the install starts but when I plug them back I get the same problem, Im not running raid

    I suggested what I did because the black screen on Windows install is a common problem when RAID is set to enabled on a NON-RAID array.
    One other possibility: ke84 are you installing Windows XP? - and what version is it?  If it is pre-SP1 it may have trouble understanding what SATA is.  If it is SP1 or later is should work fine without installation of any extra drivers, so long as RAID is set to DISABLED.
    I would still try installng on a single disk, connected to SATA-1 on the mainboard, before considering the above problem.  If one disk doesn't work, try the other.

  • Cannot boot from RAID 1 drive on K8N Neo4

    I am trying to install Win2K on a mirrored RAID array my K8N Neo4 motherboard.  Here is all the hardware:
    K8N Neo4(MS-7125).  The box says K8N Neo4 F, but the intro screen says "Platinum".  Bios version 1.9
    Hard drives: Two Maxtor Ultra16 250GB 7200 IDE drives.  Both on IDE controller 1 as master and slave.
    AMD athlon 64 3500
    I followed the directions in the manual for booting off a RAID array.
    In CMOS, Enabled IDE RAID, IDE Primary Master RAID, and IDE Primary Slave RAID.
    In F10 raid setup:
    Set up "Mirroring" RAID array using both drives.
    Enabled "boot" option for the array.
    Array list shows Array as healthy.
    Set boot order to "hard drive" then CDROM.
    I boot from win2k CD, press F6 to install RAID drivers.
    After a bunch of other stuff has been loaded, I am prompted for the RAID drivers.  I load both exactly as shown in the manual.
    However, I am not sure I have the correct drivers on my floppy.  The directions in the manual for creating the floppy are clearly incorrect as they would result in nothing on the floppy.  I coppied the contents of the "pataraid" directory to the floppy.  The win2k installer asked for "nvata.cat" so I took it from the "sata_ide" directory.
    Next, the installer asks me which disk I want to install windows onto.  This seems strange as it should see the two disks as one drive.
    I tell it to install on the forst drive.  It formats the first drive and transfers a bunch of stuff.  It then reboots and tries to boot off the hard drive (or RAID array in this case).  The computer is unable to boot off the hard drive.
    Has anyone seen this?
    What should I really make the RAID driver floppy?

    I think I know what you are referring to.  Nvidiia's documentation for nvRaidMan says that it reconstructs a mirrored array (once the bad drive has ben replaced) slowly over the period of a day.  I think this is actually a disadvantage.  The promise RAID controller allows you to immediately copy the good drive to the new drive.  It can take a while for big drives (like twenty minutes), but then you are fully protecetd again and you dont have this big task in the background all day long.  More importantly, the promise documentation makes it clear which drive is being copied to which.
    I think I will start looking for a promise RAID controller and just make a mental note not to trust nvidia.

  • MSI K8N Neo4/SLI SB Live! 24 bit CA 0

    Hello,
    I have the MSI K8N Neo4/SLI with SB li've! 24 bit sound card on-board and I want to buy a 5. speaker system with 3 digital input 3(2 optic / coaxial).
    The digital optic or the digital coax output from the sound card can make 5. output so i can receive with the 5. system
    The system is a Panasonic SC-HT5 (http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs...s&displayTab=S)
    Thank you.

    The card cannot create 5., so if the audio you're playing isn't already an encoded 5. (AC3) stream, then the card cannot change that. If you're playing DVDs, they should work fine provided everything is set up correctly (including the DVD software, it should be set to SPDIF/Bypass).

  • K8N Neo4/SLi - Keeps detecting Raid at bootup

    Hello everyone,
    My K8N Neo4/Sli non platinum board keeps detecting IDE raid at bootup.  Am I supposed to load the raid drivers on the floppy even though I don't have it enabled in the bios?  That may be a separate question but curious.  At this point it's more of a 10-15 second annoyance.  My machine radomly freezes in windows xp too.  Not sure if it's related.
    Thank you to anyone that can help or has ideas.
    Setup:

    LOL...or sometimes when O.C.'ing the CPU...SATA devices decide to take a vacation!!!!
    i don't have any SATA devices on my machine, but i still couldn't figure out why after i stoped using RAID and wanted to switch to a 2X160 GB non-RAID config, after BIOS post the screen would hang at detecting NV raid. took me 3 hours to find out that if the optimized settings were loaded, the trick would be to disable the aggresive memory timings from the cell menu. strangely enough, it worked with aggresive timings and the BIOS i had when i got the mobo (it didn't hang at detecting and configuring raid) but not with the new ones. and this was without any OC.

  • Windows 98SE & K8N Neo4 Platinum

    I have just tried loading Windows 98SE on a K8N Neo4 Platinum based system - don't laugh, it was an experiment and worked (sort of . . .).  I failed with Windows 3.11 !
    I put a single 512Mb PC3200 stick on the motherboard and Windows 98SE appears to have loaded although the "Add new hardware wizard" is having fun .  Following installation, it takes forever and a day to boot - I guess because it is trying to make sense of all these strange devices ?
    Does anyone know where I might find NVIDIA nForce4 System Drivers for Windows 98SE ?  They seem only to be available for Win2k/XP & Win XP 64 bit.

  • Patch Set Release 2 (9.2.0.8) Patch Set 7 for Microsoft Windows (32-Bit)

    Hi,
    I've 2 nodes with version 9.2.0.1
    I applied a Patch Set Release 2 (9.2.0.8) Patch Set 7 for Microsoft Windows (32-Bit) on the Node 2,
    All is fine but when i try to discover N2 from N1 with OMS, i get only the HTTP Servers, and no database discovred,
    For your information, I've 2 databases on N2
    Please help me to resolve this probleme because i need to schedule some jobs.
    Regards.

    Check where you installed the 9.2.0.8 patch, in the database home or Enterprise Manager Agent's home?
    Check the compatibility between the versions of agent, database and OEM.
    Try to reinstall the (correct version) agent again in Node 1.
    If you have 2 database on Node 2, if they both uses the same Oracle database version and same home, you need to install the patch only once, but got to run the upgrade and catpatch.sql seperately in each databases.
    Hope it helps,

  • Integrated SB Live 24 bit on K8N Neo4 SLI Plat and custom EAX

    I want to be able to create some custom EAX settings but I can't seem to find any way to do that on the SB Live 24 bit that's integrated on the K8N Neo4 SLI Plat board.  Is anyone able to do this or is it a limitation of the integrated SB Live 24 bit?  I hope it's not the latter...  Thanks.

    Hello, uninstall your sound drivers and go to creative site and get the lastest drivers with creative sound console, install both this sould work..  also clean out all the old sound drivers after uninstalling with driver cleaner. I think thats how i did it.    good luck henry9

  • How to SET or Configure BIOS to use XFX6200 TC video card for MSI K8N NEO4 Plat.

    Hello Friends,
    Can any body help me to the following problem?
    I am having XFX 6200 TC Geforce / nvidia Grafix card for my MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum Ultra board.
    The BIOS states PCIE clock speed as 100 Mhz as default.  The setting can be changed upto 145Mhz.
    My Video card can be configured upto 350 Mhz.  How to do this and which is the right way to use the display card with optimum setting?
    Thanks for all those who reply to this.

    the coolbits link http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=815
    to manually set the clocks on the graphic card, after installing coolbits, just follow the instruction on that page:

    Unpack the achive (self extracting) and then in the setup directory simply click on the .reg file. To get to these options simply right-click on your desktop and go to 'NVIDIA Analog Display' (Win XP/2003). For Win 2000 and lower you may need to get to the Nvidia Control Panel the old way. Right click desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > GeForce xxxx
    for overclocking just take a look at the overclocking sections of the forum. make sure to read the stickies before you do anything.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum: SiI 3114 Raid 5 is anyone doing it?

    I've scoured the internet google, yahoo, etc. I can't find one single review of anyone using the SiI 3114 chip for raid 5. I want to put 4 sata drives on the SiI 3114 controller in raid 5 but I am concerned about performance. See, I am putting together a home media server and these drives will be written to often and read from constantly - 24/7. Originally I wanted to get a hardware raid 5 controller however I ran into a few problems. There are no current mobos that support PCI-x (if you're not aware PCI-e and PCI-x are not the same thing) and sataII/PCI-e/any current technologies. This is a problem because all hardware raid 5 cards use PCI-x. Sticking them in a standard PCI slot will kill performance and is pretty useless. There is one exception which is the Areca cards but they are all over $500 (actually closer to $1000) and thats overkill for a home server.
    So all I would really like to know is if anyone has experieince with, seen a review, knows a friend - anything - that can tell me how bad the performance of raid 5 on the SiI 3114 (the 2nd sata controller on the K8N Neo4 Platinum) is. I am quite anxious as I have spent almost 2 weeks looking for all this info. I know the SiI 3114 is a software solution, so I am not expecting anything amazing spped-wise, but I do need it to perform smoothly. I will be putting an AMD64 3500+ with a gig of crucial ram (2 512mb sticks) in this box and there will be no overclocking.
    Someone please enlighten me? Thanks alot!

    Sorry but I can only assume you are reffering to the SLI board which only has 2 ports. The non-sli version has 4 ports.
    See here: http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4_Platinum&class=mb.

    Silicon Image's SATARAID5 supports another 4 SATA ports(SATA5-8). Transfer rate is up to 150MB/s
    -    RAID 0 or 1, RAID5, RAID10, and JBOD groups are supported
    -    Support up to 4 SATA devices connected to a single controller
    I've been struggling with a way to get raid 5 on an nforce4 chipset for almost 2 weeks. So I've done my homework though I am not a tech expert by any means. Actually, this has been a thorn in my side till I discovered this new MSI board. I understand that more PCI-e raid 5 cards will be comming to market this quarter but, I assume, they will probably fall in the Areca's price range. So I'm hopping MSI has come to my rescue :D. Otherwise I have to buy an old technology operon board (no sataII, no pci-e, no anything current) and server hardware is totally out of my technical experience so I would like to avoid that if possible. Also, if I didn't mention it, what I want to do is use raid 5 with this chip with all 4 ports (4x250gb sata drives). Thanks!

  • Another K8N Neo4, 3800 x2 Problem

    Before I start here are the specs
    Amd x2 3800 with stock cooling
    Msi K8n Neo4 Platinum
    2 gb OCZ Dual Channel Platinum Link
    eVGA 7800gt
    Ultra Xconnect 500watt psu
    2 160 gb Hitachi Deskstars in Raid 0 on nvidia raid controller
    2 Ide Hard drives
    Problem: Complete lockups in games.(no sound, no mouse, no keyboard, no screen activity) Mainly Counter-strike Source. Battlefield 2 sometimes freezes but it always happens with CS:S. I have tried installing the AMD x2 driver, Microsoft hotfix, the registry tweak to activate the MS hotfix, reverting to the 7x.xx forceware, trying multiple forceware beta drivers, setting affinity to 1 cpu, updated bios to 1.b, formating multiple times trying different forceware drivers etc. When I install Windows before I do anything I am doing a full windows update installing everything until there are no critical updates left and also installing the latest directX.
    I ran prime95 on both cores for 7 hours and nothing was found. I ran memtest for 4 hours 30 minutes and nothing was found.
    As of right now I should be recieving a Amd 64 3800+ (non x2) tomorrow from newegg and seeing if that works. Here are pictures of my bios settings.
    Couldn't get the very last line so heres another pic that includes the Nf4 voltage.
    edit: Forgot to add this
    Memory Timings
    Incase imageshack links die/slow heres an alternative http://urlx.org/dmservers.com/064b

    I switched the ram to the 2 slots closest to the cpu and it then allowed me to change it to 1T. The ocz guy sent me a whole list of settings which I did but then when I saved and restarted it didn't post. So I tweaked them a bit and now it works fine. According to Everest I am now above the benchmarks compared to the other x2 3800+ on the nforce4 ultra.
    1 thing I did notice was that every now and then I would lock up in the bios for some reason. As in I would be changing some settings and then I couldn't use the arrow keys to move at all. I wonder if its because I am using a wireless keyboard or maybe the usb to ps2 adapter is messing it up?
    edit: heres screenshots. I know I am big on screenshots.

  • Constant HDD access (K8N Neo4 Platinum)

    Hello all, this is my first time posting on these forums.
    A couple of days ago I put together a new system for myself, with the following components:
    * Athlon64 3200+ processor
    * MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum motherboard
    * 1Gb RAM
    * Gigabyte 128Mb GeForce 6600GT graphics card
    * 2x Seagate 250Gb 7200rpm SATA drives
    * LG IDE dual-layer DVD-RW drive
    * Apacer 7-in-1 internal USB 2.0 card reader
    * Thermaltake "soprano" ATX midi-tower w/ 400W PSU
    The two hard drives I have connected to ports SATA5 and SATA6 on the motherboard and set up in a RAID1 configuration (using the on-board Silicon Image SiI 3114 RAID controller). I then installed Windows XP Professional, which went on fine. The only problem I have now is that the hard drives are being constantly accessed by the system, even when I'm doing nothing on the system. This isn't just an occasional access once every second or so, the little HDD LED just flickers away merrily the whole time. I have run both filemon and diskmon on the system, and found that while no particular files appear to be being accessed, there is almost constant write activity being performed to the hard drives.
    I have narrowed it down to somehow involving the Windows XP RAID drivers. If I boot from the Windows XP install disk and load the third party drivers for the SiI 3114, I get the constant disk access when sitting at the first screen of the install process ("Welcome to Windows XP" text-only screen). If I do the same without loading the drivers (thus Windows does not recognise the RAID drive), no disk access. I have tried updating the RAID controller drivers under the Device Manager (now up to version 1.2.0.0), but it does not fix the problem. I have done a full virus and spyware scan (bearing in mind that this is a clean install), with no results. I have checked all running processes and services (including making sure Indexing Service is not running), but have been unable to find anything that could be causing this constant activity. I have yet to try actually breaking the mirror and running the drives off the normal SATA controller. I will be trying that tonight when I get home if no other solution presents itself, but obviously I would rather get it behaving properly in RAID1 if at all possible.
    It's driving me crazy. There doesn't appear to be any actual issues with the performance of the machine, but the constant hard disk activity can't be good for the drives long-term. I have searched these forums for a possible solution, and while some people have had similar problems, none of the suggested solutions have worked for me so far. If anyone can help me with my dilemma, I would be Eternally Grateful(tm).

    Yes! At least I'm not alone... constant disk ticking is driving me nuts too.
    I have same issue with a newly built system - different board but Sil3114.
    My C: is on the NF4 SATA interface, but I have 4 250GB Seagaets on the Sil3114, intended for a RAID5 array. Having installed XP, I've become distracted by the constant disk access and have been trying everything to eliminate it before proceeding with the rest of the build - nogo. Your post gave me the clue - boot with Sil3114 disabled = no disk activity; boot with enabled = constant disk flogging.
    I've got the Sil driver up to 1.2.3.1 but no better. Suspect it may be the Sil3114 BIOS that needs upgrading but seems no way to flash it - have you got anywhere with your debugging?
    Appreciate a solution before I go crazy with the tick, tick tick....

    All that info and I still don't know where you are plugging them in.     SATA or IDE(PATA)? Both?
    Can you describe the not booting a little more?  i.e.  No video at all, you see POST but it doesn't complete, POST completes but you can't boot an OS.
