K8N platinum and firewall

I just bought K8N platinum and got some problems with the firewall, I cant choose any other profile, like custom, high, low and medium.
the problems is that when I tell it to change it starts and it stands: "Configuration settings are being applied" and there it stands forever (just tested, it stood like that for 6 houres before I shut it down)  and under it stands :
Error in ProfileCustom1Base Set : Invalid selection. Please choose a valid selection.
Error in ProfileCustom2Base Set : Invalid selection. Please choose a valid selection.
is it any solution to this?
I have tried to update, reinstall drivers

  • K8n Platinum Help!!!

i just bought the k8n platinum and i fitted it in a thermaltake case vm2000 or something. i have a problem tho, when i plug in the power it starts automatically and i get lotsa numbers on screen like "verifying DMI Pool Data" and then i get lotsa 99, 99, 99, etc. then if i power it off, it wont really turn on. i mean there is power in the hd and dvd drivers but the light on them is constantly on. also sometimes the fan on the cpu and graphics card wont turn on, even tho the power is on.
i m running an athlon 64 3400+, a radeon 9800 pro, 1gb memory (ddr 400) 2x512mb one is elixir and one is adata, 120gb maxtor master, 200gb sata seagate baracuda, msi dr8-a2 dvdrw, liteon 52x32x52x, a 550 q-tec power supply
    what can be wrong?
i dont think its the graphics or ram cuz i tried different ones.
oh and the power led on the case keeps flashing.
    any help is greatly appreciated.
    thanks in advance

the cmos jumper? i did all that. i powered it up. everything sounds ok, fan is spinning and all, but it hangs imediately,i dont get any display. the d-bracket always shows 4 red leds which would mean cpu problems or not installed correctly.
i removed the cpu make sure its ok, put it back on but still nothing.
by the way it wont power off unless i pull the plug. i think it might be the board.
i think i ll send both cpu and board back to the seller so they can check whats actually wrong.

  • I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MI MSI K8N PLATINUM

HI, I'M WIRTING FROM MEXICO, I BROUGHT A MSI K8N PLATINUM, AND I HAVE  A SERIOUS PROBLEM.
WHEN I FINISH TO CONNECT ALL (MEMORY, ROCESSOR AND VIDEO CARD...), AFTER I CONNECT THE POWER SUPPLY AND MY MOBO START INMEDIATLY, I DON'T NEED PRESS THE POWER SWITCH, I DON'T KNOW WHY THIS HAPPEND.
IF YOU CAN ANSWER ME IN SPANISH THAT WILL BE PERFECT TO ME. THANKS

No sé va Google bien traduce trabajos....... tan aquí.
Well I will not rely on Google translate in the future..............
This is what I typed in
"Most (if not all) motherboards today can be started/shutdown via the keyboard if enabled via BIOS.  You may have bumped the keyboard this would have triggered the system to start, so check your BIOS configuration.
Failing that, check that your motherboard is not shorted on a stand-off peg etc, and recheck your PSU connection to the motherboard.
I do not know how well Google translate works ....... so here goes."
and this is the translation back from Spanish to English
"The majority (if of all) the motherboards today they cannot be started/shutdown via the keyboard if they are allowed via BIOS.  You can have run into the keyboard that this one would have driven the system to begin, so it verifies his configuration of the BIOS.  To fail that, verifies that its motherboard is not put in short circuit in a pin etc of the isolation, and returns to inspect its connection of the power supply to the motherboard.  I do not know goes Google well translates works so here........"

  • Confused - whats the difference between K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum and Diamond??

MSI web page says the Diamond has:
"Silicon Image's SATA RAID supports another 2 SATA II ports. Transfer rate is up to 300MB/s."
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=638
their Platinum page doesn't list the Silicone Image raid as a feature on the Platinum.
I have K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum and it has the Silicone Image raid - I'm using it now.
    Can anyone explain this?
Another question:  for both boards it shows:  "NV RAID (Software) - - RAID function available for ATA133 + SATA HD drives or 2 SATA HD"
How can the Raid fuction work for ATA133 drives since the cables for SATA and PATA are different?   What do the mean Raid for 133?
    Thanks!!!

  • K8N Platinum Video and S-ATA issues

    hey,
here is my problem: i bought some hardware 3 weeks ago, including:
    A64 3800+ (Venice), MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum (MS-7125), Leadtek PX6800 GT TDH (265MB), Be Quiet! 450 Watt Titanium S1.3
in exchange for my old system (2500+, Abit K7N, ATi Radeon 9800SE AiW, 320W Enermax PSU)
the hardware change went great, had no errors after the exchange, windows xp (sp2) worked for 2 weeks. though, some things are errorous like the nForce eth being detected but no drivers installed, nForce raid not being detected - stuff like that probably resulting from a missing format c: and really clean install.
now things get quite strange. a friend of mine gave me 2 of his s-ata hdds (both maxtor, one 160gb and the other 200gb) - after plugging them onto the nforce s-ata raid, i was still able to get into the bios (at this time it was the biosversion the board shipped with) but the keyboard was locked (or the pc froze after entering the bios - can't tell for sure). unplugged the drives - and it was working again.
let's get to the main problem. after the problems above i thought "well, ok, let's reset the cmos, maybe i configured it wrong" so i shut down my pc and pushed the "clear cmos" button - then i did a normal boot, i heared the "beep", everything was just fine - but my TFT stayed black. i had a similar situation on my old board, so i disconnected the psu and removed the battery for 10 seconds. boot: display worked again. i immediately checked my bios (which was indeed resetted) but did not change anything. reboot -> black screen. now, the funny thing is.. the gfx card got 2 dvi and 1 s-video output (one dvi and s-video were connected) so i checked my tv - guess what, i saw the POST  now i knew the board was "working" and my assumptions of which the black screen results in a crashed videocard/mobo were wrong. i sat there and watched windows xp boot up - and suddenly (after the xp vga drivers have been loaded i guess) my tft displays the image!
now this is VERY odd and tbh i really don't know what to say. anyways, i started msi liveupdate and downloaded/installed the latest official bios update (via winflash because i don't have a floppy anymore) to see if that might fix something. it didn't.
and now here i am, desperate and confused because i don't know whether or not it's a mobo or gfx issue - all i know is that it suddenly appeared after the cmos clear (sadly there's no "description" of whether you should press that button when the pc is shut off, psu is disconnected, mobo is running its post whatever) and i can't find a logical reason for this behaviour
to add another detail to the story, after i found out the video output was sent via s-video, i tried all combinations (dvi1 connected, dvi2 not, s-video not / dvi1 not, dvi2 connected, s-video not / dvi1 + 2 not, s-video connected / etc.) but the only source i can get the post from (until WinXP loads) is the s-video out.
i think maybe it could be the gfx card's bios, which loads up BEFORE the post begins (leadtek welcome screen, ram counts itself -> post -> os) but i'm not sure about it either
    ANY help is very appreciated
*edit* i forgot to mention: it worked before! after hitting this nifty little button, the display problems began...

  • K8N-PLATINUM NF4U SLI and PSU Question

    Hi
I have read a lot in these forums about the issues arose with the K8N-PLATINUM NF4U SLI  board and the PSUs most of the users have.
Because I am going to buy the specific board i would like your opinion about the SilentPurePower 560W PSu of ThermalTake.
It gives 22A on 12V trail and it comes with a 20 to 24 pin adapter for Server motherboards use.
In addition I am going to use 2 sata Hds as raid and 2 DVD drives( one of them DVD-R) and the SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Zs.(Of course the onboard  soundcard will be disabled).
Do you think that the PSU will be adequate?
    Thanks for your help

Thanks for your reply blazing storm but  many people here talk all about a "safe minimum of 24A on the 12V trail".
But if i sum up all my power requirements( dvds , processor:AMD 64 3500+ , HDDs etc) i come up with 18 or 19A.
After all the MSI itself suggest for it's K8n Platinum NF4U SLI at least 450W and greater than 18A on 12V trail so I suppose that it wiil be ok.
Maybe 24A it is proper for future upgrades.

  • MSI K8N NEO platinum and MOBILE chips

I just found out a problem with MSI K8N NEO Platinum.
I recently upgraded my cpu from Clawhammer DTR 3200+ 1.5V to Clawhammer Mobile 3400+ 1.4V (hoping for better overclocking). To my surprise the mainboard can no longer raise the VCore voltage over 1.45V (it doesn’t matter if I select in the bios 1.5 or 1.55V). The only working option is raising de VCore by 3.3% 5% 8.3% 10%, resulting in a maximum VCore of 1.45 + 1.45 x 10% = 1.6V
I did some googeling and found there is a VCore issue with the K8N NEO and mobile chips, although DTR chips are fully supported (working VCore and multiplier adjustments).
I am using the latest beta bios 1.56B (moded by Pinochio)
Did any of you found a way to resolve this problem? IT IS DRIVING ME INSANE!!!

    Bad post...

  • K8N Neo Platinum and Maxtor SATA II 250GB 6V250F0

    Hi folks,
Having a bit of fun with this one.  After first installing the new hard drive (Maxtor SATA II 250GB 6V250F0) , the BIOS immediately recognised it, I could boot into Windows, and Windows recognised it, and I thought I was in for a smooth ride.  Sadly, the good news ends there.
Tried to initialise the disk, but this simply gave an error after a few seconds, and wrote a whole load of controller error messages to the system event log.  Since then, I've done the following troubleshooting steps:-
    (1) Tried in Normal Mode and Safe Mode, made no difference.
    (2) Tried with the jumper on the back of the drive set to limit it to SATA I, as I'm connecting to SATA I controllers on the motherboard.  Made no difference with it on or off.  Tried a second jumper just in case the first one was faulty; still made no difference.
    (3) Tried using different power cables and molex connectors; made no difference.
    (4) Tried using different data cables; made no difference.
    (5) Tried connecting to each of the four SATA ports; made no difference.  Tested each port with another drive ((an older Maxtor SATA I drive, which has always worked fine), and they each worked fine.
    (6) Tried with and without another SATA drive (an older Maxtor SATA I drive, which has always worked fine); made no difference.
    (7) Checked the drive firmware (VA111630); apparently already the latest.
    (8) Used the nVidia registry fix to disable NCQ; made no difference.
    (9) Disabled write caching; made no difference.
    (10) Ran powermax 4.22 to test the drive, and it reports no problems with the drive at all.  Did the full surface scan just in case, and a burn-in test; these also reported no problems.  Curiously, they also reported no problems when I did the same tests with the back jumper removed; i.e. running it in SATA II mode when connected to a SATA I port apparently didn't bother powermax.  Go figure.
The only way I've got anything to happen with the drive so far is to set it to run in PIO mode(!), which I did briefly, and which enabled the drive to be initialised in Windows.  Haven't tried much else in that mode yet, not least because I have no intention of actually using it in that mode for obvious reasons.
So...we have a perfectly functioning disk, attached to a perfectly functioning SATA port, with supposed complete compatibility between them, and with pretty much all other bases covered, and the end result is...it doesn't work.
Has *anyone* got this particular drive model (Maxtor 6V250F0) to work with a K8N Neo Platinum, and if so, how???  ???  ???

Latest Update (this is a real Twilight Zone one ):
LOL, well I should have known better than to be optimistic about anything where this drive is concerned.  With Windows drivers installed, it seemed to work okay as a storage drive.  So I then installed XP on it, and sure enough it hangs when loading the OS.  As the next test, I did a clean install of XP on an IDE drive I have installed, which worked fine (could boot no problems).  I then cloned that to the Maxtor drive (the clean OS had no nVidia drivers installed), and not only did the Maxtor drive fail to boot, but so did the IDE drive (even though nothing has changed on that drive!)    Both would hang at the Windows loading screen.  So then I deleted the partition on the Maxtor drive, so it was effectively back to the situation where the IDE drive booted okay previously (with a blank Maxtor drive attached), but now it continued to fail to load.  If I unplugged the Maxtor drive, however, then the IDE drive would boot.  If I then re-attached the Maxtor drive, the IDE drive would still boot, even though that would be exactly the same situation in which it didn't boot before the Maxtor unplug and replug.  In short, it simply makes no sense whatsoever.  ???
    A summary of facts/findings:-
    (1) System works fine; all components checked and pass diagnostic tests, no Windows problems in the event log or device manager, no random crashes or anything like that.  The Maxtor drive passes Powermax tests fine.
    (2) If the Maxtor drive is attached while using nVidia drivers, it cannot be used at all.
    (3) If the Maxtor drive is attached while using Windows drivers (in UDMA6 mode), it can be used in some circumstances (described as follows).
    (4) If the Maxtor drive has no OS installed on it, it can be used fine.
    (5) If the Maxtor drive has an OS installed on it, it will hang at boot time.
    (6) If the Maxtor drive has an OS installed on it, other drives (being booted from) will hang at boot time.
    (7) If another drive has failed to boot because the Maxtor drive has an OS on it, deleting all data/partitions from the Maxtor drive will not enable the first drive to boot.
    (8) If another drive has failed to boot because the Maxtor drive has/had an OS on it, unattaching the Maxtor drive will enable it to boot once again.
    (9) Once another drive has managed to boot again, the Maxtor drive can be reattached (with data/partitions having been deleted), and it will boot again.  If it still has the OS on it, however, it will cause the first drive to hang again.
    (10) None of this highly abnormal behaviour is experienced using a Samsung Spinpoint drive (with the same SATA II interface) instead.
What really puzzles me about this is the apparent memory of the system for the previous boot.  (7) and (9) above are identical in the conditions of the drives when the boot is made, and the only difference in the situation is that before (7) the previous boot has failed, and before (9) the previous boot has succeeded.  How/why that should influence the current boot (after a hard reset, with power down in between to ensure no residual current effects), and why this should interact with the Maxtor drive but not any other drive, is a complete mystery.  It's also pretty odd that an OS can boot when the Maxtor drive has ordinary data on it, but will hang if the Maxtor drive has an OS on it.
There is clearly a lot more going on here than any standard version of the way OSs boot and load drivers can account for.

  • Neo Platinum and K8n Diamond

, is all this Noe Platinum stuff
i got a K8N Diamond , and i've seen peple say that the Neo Platinum is untoched by it?
is this true, if so,  how  and why?

    hahahahahahaha!
difference is just that the Diamond comes with a Wifi 802.11G card w/ Bluetooth. in some regions (like where im from), the Diamond also has an actively cooled heatpipe for the mosfets. the SLI Platinum doesnt.
i have however seen a review of an SLI Platinum with actively cooled heatpipe so it really depends on the region. its the Wifi + Bluetooth card that is the main difference afaik
also, you are a member of the Diamond club and get this nifty little credit card type thingy which you can use to join MSI's online Diamond club.
does that answer your question? please dont swear at me!

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and seagate sata2 500Gb

    Hi all,
As per subject, when the drive is connected to my computer it does not get passed the boot screen as all it keeps on doing is rebooting its self,
i have checked all my bios settings and all is as it should be, also i would like to mention that i already have 3 other sata drives connected to this motherboard, of which 2 are, 160Gb Seagate hard drives, and 1, 30Gb Weston digital hard drive, and they work perfectly,
I have also tried unplugging all the drives and just trying the new one, and setting the jumper to limit to 1.5Gb/s but still all it does is reboot, do you think the drive is faulty?
    Thank you

    Quote from: Chippy99 on 21-May-07, 21:51:09
Seems strange.  I have a Seagate sata2 500GB (ST3500630AS) hooked up to Sata port #1 on my K8N Neo2 and it works perfectly.  I have found it to be *very* intolerant of overclocks though.
What sata port are you connecting to?  And are you overclocking?
This could be the problem .....  SATA ports 1 & 2 on the nforce3 boards are NOT locked. I only use 3 & 4 plus set your AGP clock to 67 or 68 to be safe (this is supposed to lock the PCI bus but only seems to work on SATA 3&4). Of course, this won't be a problem if you are running at Safe Default settings.

  • These ATI cards 9500 Pro and 9700 Pro ok for MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and winchester cpu? Compatible?

Looking at grabbing a used ATI 9500 Pro or used 9700 Pro AGP card for my MSI Neo2 Plat since I can't use my Matrox G400.
Any problems using either of the above cards? I don't play a huge amount of 3D games so I'm not going to grab a 9800 Pro or XT or 6600GT. A 9500 or 9700 Pro would allow me to play the newer games at reasonable resolutions. Just want to make sure they are compatible.
    thanx

Ok guys, thanx for the feedback. I missed the 9500 Pro sale, so maybe its for the better. If I'm going to try a bit of 3D gaming, I may aswell get a little bit better card. So here is my question for you folks:
For my MSI K8N Neo2 and AMD64 3000+ system, I want a card that will have good 2D output and good DVD playback. I want to try some 3D games, but don't want to have the minimum. I was looking at used 9500 Pro's and the 9600 XT but I've come across a used 9700 Pro and a 9800 Pro and 9800 Pro with r360 core (almost a 9800XT). So if I get a 9700 Pro, what will I be able to play smoothly at what settings and what will I be unable to play. Ultimately, I may play mostly on my projector at 858 x 484, so maybe the cards don't matter too much. If I don't play 3D games much after a while, I'll probably downgrade, but I want to give it a try. I can't afford a new 9800 Pro/XT or 6600GT.
Used cards I'm deciding between. Have to act fast.
9700 Pro $170 CAD or 9800Pro $210 CAD or 9800 with r360 core $230. Price differences between the cards is as you see there.
thanx in advance for any feedback,

  • Should I get a K8N Platinum?

    Hi guys,
Should I get a K8N Platinum when have the opportunity to sell my old K8T?
The missing AGP/PCI lock is driving me nuts on my K8T,
so please tell me your oc records with air cooling on K8N Platinum.
I got 228 stable but after that my raid 0 broke.
3dmark03 figures to compare the setups are also appreciated.
I got 6003 3dmarks with nothing occed and win xp64.
Does the HD led actually work with two SATA drives @ RAID 0?
Is the hardware firewall already working properly?
Anyone having problems with Infineon DDR 400 ram here?

Well... tested the rig with four different ATI cards now:
    Two (a 9800np and a 9800 pro) works well.
    and
    Two other cards (9600XT  - I believe (?) and a 9700) doesn't.
The first card (9600 something) keeps crashing while gaming - the latter (my own 9700) won't even make it to POST!
Cuz I'm a bit out of luck, but it's kinda funny that I've tested the same system with 5 different Geforce cards (Geforce SD-ram
    Me confused *gg*
So basicly I'm saying: Don't fix it if it ain't broken - don't risk the issues K8N has with memory and ATI cards - unless your present hardware are recommended for use with the K8N. It's simply not worth it for a few extra 3DMark points.
Don't get my wrong. K8N IS a great, but sensitive board.
Don't skip an already great running A64 solution unless you're ready to invest money in memory and a GFX if need be.
If you 'only' have an Athlon XP solution though, I'd say: Go for it!
PS My rig: Antec 550 TruePower, K8N, 2x 512 MB. Geil PC3200 memory and a couple of Hitachi 7K250 SATA disks in RAID0. Unfortunately, forced to run an old G.F. 3 card. :(

  • MSI Neo2 K8N Platinum - Freezing Issue during games

First off greetings to everyone on these forums...
I purchased the MSI Neo2 K8N Platinum motherboard from NewEgg back at the end of March to compliment the AMD 64 "Winchester" processor that I also purchased at that time to replace a slightly older AMD XP "Barton" system that was using the Abit NF7-S motherboard. For the past month I have been fighting an unusual and highly irritating issue that I have noticed during game play and have tried everything that I know of and more in an attempt to remedy this issue, but to no avail. This is the general background of the situation and now I will descibe in greater detail as to what this issue I am referring to is and the symptoms of this issue and some of the various methods used to remedy this issue.
The issue is that while play a game the system experiences a short 5-10 second freeze during the game randomly, but usually several times an hour. During this freezing the sound would loop and as suddenly as the freeze occurs it would cease and the game would continue on as if nothing happened. However, sometimes this would result in the system freezing outright after this short 5-10 second freeze... but it does not feel like a total system freeze, but rather a video freeze as the sound continues and I still have keyboard control... but this does require me to force a manual reboot of the machine itself. I have scowered the internet and various forums in an attempt to find what the issue was and use various methods to remedy this issue, but so far nothing has worked in my favor... but it does seem like this issue has been plaguing other users with the MSI Neo2 Platinum motherboard. Below are some of the methods that I have used in an attempt to solve this issue:
*Default Clock for CPU/Memory/GPU; Over/Under Clock for CPU/Memory/GPU
*Increased voltages to CPU VID, AGP, and Memory
    *Disabled/Enabled AGP Fast Writes
*Increased AGP Aperture from 64MB to 512MB
*Enabled/Disabled ATI/nVidia Speedup option in BIOS
*Forced AGP clock lock to 66-67mhz
    *Relaxed/Aggressive memory timings
    *APIC enabled/disabled
    *Gate A20 turbo/normal
*Disabled all unneeded onboard components (Realtek NIC, Sound, SATA)
*Disabled nVidia MAC and attempted to use 3Com Gigabit PCI card instead
    *Swapped HDD Cables
*Tried PCI Sound Card (SB Audigy2 ZS Gamer) in PCI Slots 3/4

*Video card is KNOWN working from previous build (AMD XP 3000, Abit NF7-S)
*Hard Drive is KNOWN working from previous build
*CD/DVD-ROM drive is kNOWN working from previous build
*Heat is not an issue... all components temperature is well below rated level, the only unknown is the chipset temperature (it has a active heatsink and seems to not be hot to the touch, applied AS5 to it anyway)
*Used latency tweak to the video card
*Used Rivatuner to force constant performance level
*Tweaked BIOS to force even clock rates and forced 1.4v to the GPU Core
    *Used original GPU BIOS
    *Used MSI Neo2 K8N Bios 1.4 - 1.8 and modified BIOS 1.8
*No background applications are running (not even antivirus)
*Used application to force maximum refresh rates for my monitor
*Memory passed MemTest86+ for over 24 hours
*System passed Prime95 and SuperPi for over 24 hours
*System seems stable in all non gaming related applications
    *Checked through various troubleshooting procedures
    *Disabled SBDRVDET.EXE using MSCONFIG
*There are no IRQ conflicts outside of PCI system management sharing IRQ11 with the NIC and USB... in APIC there are no IRQ conflicts what so ever. Regardless neither method worked
*Installed AMD 64 drivers from AMD
    *Disabled DEP in boot.ini
*...and many other various tweaks and modifications.

I have been fighting this issue for well over a month now and I am frankly nearly out of ideas, this does not necessarly prevent me from playing games, but this does interfere with the games I do play (especially online games). I do demand absolute stability from the games that I play and this issue only began AFTER I upgraded to the new motherboard, processor, and memory. The only thing I have not tried is something that I do not have access in attempting on this motherboard, and that is increasing the voltage to the chipset.
Here is my theory on what is going on is that I believe is there is a fault with the chipset on this motherboard and this is manifesting itself while I am playing various games on this system. Of course I would like to try increasing the voltage to the chipset as that would increase stability, but there is no option in BIOS to increase the chipset voltage like the previous motherboard I had (Abit NF7-S). It is possible that either a) the chipset is at fault and is causing me this issue or b) the chipset is not recieving enough voltage.
My question to the rest of you is this, what do you think the problem is and what ideas do you have that I may try that I have not tried yet. Additionally if there is nothing else that I may try should I attempt to RMA this motherboard and will that help, and is there any other versions of this motherboard that I should be aware of. I would appreciate any response from a MSI representative and any comments from those that may have positive suggestions for my issue. Thank you in advance for your time and any help that you may be able to render.

Does it only happen in online games, or can it happen in all games? One thing to make sure of is to turn off CRC checksum offload in your NVidia MAC properties (everyone do this, it is incorrectly calculating checksums which leads to servers ignoring your packets). However as you have tried a different network card you can discount this theory.
For me it looks like the biggest culrpit is your 6800NU, i have read alot of bad things about the NU and you have a low bios revision there, just because it worked well against your old chipset doesnt mean it will work well against your current chipset. Sounds like a BIOS fix is needed as some timing is out somewhere.
Ensure Spread Spectrum is off (and as you have already pointed out Fast writes, ATI NV Speedup) and your card is running at default clock.
As a test beg/borrow/steal another graphics card (preferably nvidia) and see how it goes so you can narrow in on your video card.
It is not just one game, but it is more prodominate in certain games than others... the game in question here is Planetside... though I stuck a demo of Unreal Tournament 2004 on a loop bot match and it seemed to have locked up after 4 hours (not sure how many times it experienced that 5-10 freeze as I went to bed). As for the video card it was KNOWN working from a previous build in those same games (Previous build was a AMDXP3000 and a Abit NF7-S nForce2 motherboard). The only components different in this build is the AMD64, the MSI Neo2 K8N, 2 new sticks of Corsair XMS to replace the Corsair ValueSelects, and the SB Audigy2 as I would never use a software codec audio solution. Spread Spectrum is LOCKED in BIOS and disabled... ATI/nVidia speed up was disabled from the start... and I tried the Video Card at default clock, over clocked, as well as under clocked and the same issue resulted... as I said before it is NOT the video card.
There are two other things I could try is use my old Geforce4ti 4200 and see what happens... or even try out WindowsXP 64-bit edition as someone earlier suggested. I wish I could find a new BIOS for my XFX 6800NU, but there there is only the revision 1 BIOS that I was able to find. The mystery continues...

  • Various advice needed to overclock cpu using my MSI k8n platinum sli

Hey guys, i recently overclocked my amd 64 3500 cpu to 2.4ghz (from 2.2ghz) i was wondering if any could tell me how high i can get this cpu up to using the msi k8n platinum sli mobo.
At the moment the cpu's temp goes to 40-45 oC.
If i can overclock the cpu some more, can anyone give me detailed instructions on how to overclock it as i'm computer newbie.
i'm using the standard amd heatsink and fan so i know that will comprimise the potentail of the cpu's overclocking capability, as i heard that some people managed to get their cpu up to 3.ghz with a high quality fan, so i was just wondering if anyone can tell me how high i can get my cpu frequency with a standard fan as i really don't want to risk damaging the cpu if i go overboard.
    Thnx in advance.
P.S Does anyone come across any green flashing lights while playing their games when the high performance settings mode is set to optimized in bios settings mode??

    120GB HDD
2X PNY GEFORCE FX 6600GT PCI-E (SLI MODE)

what HSF for cpu/ cooling for the case do you use? And also, where are the flashing lights?
