K8N - problems - cmos, floppys, constant power

System:
Athlon 64 - 3200 - Retail Box Unit with heatsink and fan
MSI - K8N Neo2 Mobo
Crucial Value Select - PC3200 - 1 gig
Hitachi - SATA - 250 gig
Plextor - DVD Burner
Mad Dog Surepower - 450w power supply
Antec - Superlan boy Case
1. First of all I cannot use the power button on the case to turn the computer on.  If i turn the power button on located on the back of the PSU the computer turns on and stays on.
2.  Every time I power the computer on I recieve a "CMOS CHECKSUM ERROR".  If I power the computer on and off again the D-bracket indicator suggests the CPU is damaged or not installer properly.  I reset the bios with the JBAT1 jumper.  If I turn the power on again it starts to boot and reports cmos checkup error all over again.  I took the battery out to clear CMOS.  I changed values in the BIOS and choose the option to save the settings.  The same thing accurs.   If you disable the floppy in the bios the machine will boot up with checksum error.  I have to install a floppy in the PC to load the SATA drivers in XP during the booting of the CD.
3. The D-bracket LEDs indicates "Initializing Floppy Drive Controller"  when I have it enabled.
What could the problem be?  Is the integrated floppy controller bad on the motherboard?  This has been an absolute nightmare.  I have taken every component out and reseated.  I have done everything that I can possible think of...
So again two things - everytime it is powered down - I have to reset JBAT1 to make it boot and second if I leave the floppy drive enabled in the bios I get a CMOS checksum error.
If I disable the floppy in the bios it boots fine.  I need the floppy drive to make the SATA drive to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
First D-BRACKET says bad processor.  I reset JBAT1 - it mysteriously starts to post, etc.

I disconnected the front panel USB.  I honestly dont have a USB keyboard handy.  I booted without the keyboard however and it still hung in the same place stating checksum error and the d-bracket point to the floppy controller again.
Good point concerning memory controller integration.
Thank you very much for the suggestions.  It's all so bizarre.  I may have to call New Egg and ship this board and processor back for a replacement...

2) Are you using a PS2 keyboard PS2 keyboard/mouse causes random shutdowns or doesnt work The  "Initializing Floppy Drive Controller" Can be eroneoneus and equally indicate the Keyboard. see if the num lock led comes on. if you have access to a usb k/board use that. youll have to change the bios if you can
3) If you can get into Bios Go into the 1st screen & change the Detection to Large from auto, if the HD is not detected.
4) Power Button - Try reversing the plug in Mobo. Least of problems
Other Checks - Check Memory Seataing

  • Constant Power Transition Sudden Jump in Levels Bug

Sorry if the discussion's title is confusing – that's honestly the best way I could think of to explain what I'm experiencing. Here's a video screen grab with audio to illustrate further the possible bug I've run into: Premiere CC 2014 Audio Transition Bug - YouTube Do you hear that little jump in volume right as the playhead plays through the transition? It almost sounds as if it's doing the precise opposite of what the fade should be doing.
I'm just trying to add some small, two-frame, Constant Power transitions to some audio tracks to smooth out a cut – one of the oldest tricks in the book. I see this in many different kinds of projects, regardless of size, creation date, types/formats of media used, timeline settings, etc. It mostly just seems random to be honest.
This specific project is very minimal with all 1080p ProRes media being used. No .MTS, .MP4, or anything of the like. The project is all cuts, and no fancy VFX, titles, color grading, dynamic linked clips, etc. It's all quite simple.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance for your help!

I see you have a stereo track.  When I panned my tracks 100 I would get pops and glitches, when I panned them 99 the pops and glitches went away.  Adobe support also told me that Constant Gain is the least buggy of all the transitions, while Constant Power is the most buggy.

  • Constant Power Transition Causing Audio Stutter in Exports

I've now had this happen with two completely seperate projects today where I preview my edit, everything looks and sounds good, but then when I export there's a clear audio stutter wherever I used a constant power audio tansition. My solution thus far has just been to take out these transitions, but I'm wondering when this will be fixed.
NOTE: I experienced the Constant Power bug that happen last month that sounded like a super loud buzz. This is different.
Is anyone else experienceing this problem?

  • 875P NEO FIS2R problems with booting at power-up

Having problems with booting at power-up.
Recently, with no apparent modification to system - at power up the system will often not boot.  About 80% of time systems seems to go into a loop with CD/DVD drive light blinking a few times, then the floppy drive light comes on and can hear the FDD run – within 30 seconds or so, this process starts over again.  Power switch LED is on and HDD LED is on (continuously).  All fans are running (power supply fan, case fan, CPU fan and Intel Canterwood 875 fan ).
Monitor power on light is in power save mode (amber) when system does not boot.  When boot is successful the monitor power light turns green immediately.
After pressing the reset button several times (varies between pressing reset button 1 time to 30 or more times) system will then boot OK or go into set up.
Once running there is no apparent problem.
This mainboard comes with D Bracket containing 2 USB 2.0 ports, and 4 diagnostics LEDs - when boot problem occurs the diagnostic LEDs, give a code that in the MSI mainboard manual states “Initializing Keyboard Controller” and diagnostic LEDs stays in this mode until via reset button provides a successful boot and start up.
    Have reseated all connectors.

  • Best way to make a Constant Power Load

What would be the best way to make a load that always draws the same amount of power whatever the voltage on it. For exemple, an load would draw 100 mA at 24 VDC, 150 mA at 18 VDC and 200 mA at 12 VDC. All I found is to use Nonlinear Dependant source.
Any easier way to do this? Thanks.

Sorry about the file mix up, I was anxious to get it posted for you that I failed to realize you were using a different version.
As far as the last "amplifier" in your Leaky Feeder design, I actually hooked it up to the 24VDC supply on the left and this was a direct connect before the first resistor.  I realize this is not what would be ideal for your application as probably you have only a certain place in the Leaker Feeder to tap off from. I would suppose this would be going into a different entry way off the main entry at an intersection so I do not know how my adjusting the placing of this would effect the results because it seems to me by doing this I have bypassed a bunch resistance in the Feeder cable itself (if that is what the resistors represent) and also bypassed a number of amplification stages in the process as well.
I will post a picture of my circuit for you to examine and try in Version 9.  This is the only thing I could come up with to where the power draw was the same no matter what the voltage input was. The only thing I can see as a drawback is that with this circuit the current remains constant but the voltage fluctuates. If I use a 24V regualtor and drop the input voltage to 12V the current remains at approx 118ma but the voltage drops to 12V when I plug it into your circuit.. I will let you try it and see what you may be able to do with it.

  • Satellite A300-202 - problems with the AC power

    Hi,
I bought a Satellite A300-202 a couple of months ago and I'm having intermittent problems with the AC power.
Sometimes I plug the AC power and it won't start charging (the indicator leds are off and windows says it is on battery). Other times it is charging and suddenly stops.
I suspected it could be the cord broken in the inside but it seems to also happen when no one touches it. Usually, when it stops charging, I unplug it from the wall, wait a few seconds and plug it back in, and it starts charging fine never stopping again.
Anyone got a similar problem? I wonder if is there any way to just replace the AC power parts so I won't have to send the whole laptop for reparing.
    Thanks
    Pedro

    Hi
I never had a problem with my Toshiba chargers but one old non-Toshiba AC adaptor died after 6 month of usage. After the replacement it works without any problems.
I think you should check the BIOS update as mentioned by Akuma but for me it sounds more like a AC adaptor issue.
So if the BIOS update doesnt help, the AC adaptor should be checked definitely.

  • Sync issues on export to AME using constant power

Using a new 12 core Mac Pro with PP CC 2014.
If I have any CONSTANT POWER transitions in my timeline (for example when shortening music) when I export to AME as an H.264 YouTube setting the video plays back out of sync. You can hear it 'jump' at the points where the CONSTANT POWER transitions are. It trys to catch back up but all the edits are off by at least 10 frames. Near the end of the 2 minute video the sync catches back up as long as there are no CONSTANT POWER transitions near the end.
The ONLY work-around that works is deleting all CONSTANT POWER transitions and using straight cuts.
Strangely enough when you play back the movie inside PP CC 2014's timeline- it plays back smooth and clean.
    Anyone else having this issue???
Using a audio wave file (music)

Use shorter audio files. Break up the audio into shorter, more manageable chunks, and then place those shorter audio files in your movie.

  • News - BIG PROBLEM - MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum - DOES NOT POWER!!!

    Hi to everyone.
I'm a proudly owner of a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum that in one year gave me no problem until yesterday morning.
I used the computer in the night before and when I finished I turned it off and I went to bed.
Yesterday morning I found the power led blinking (like if the system was in standby), and there was no way to turn the PC on.
I even took off the battery for more than 12 hours and I left only minimal components installed:
the video card (Gainward GeForce 6800),
    the psu (Antec TruePower 550W),
    1 x 512 MB Ram Crucial Ballistix,
and I checked them into another computer and they work perfectly.
I tried shorting the MB power switch pins with a screwdriver and I've even tried to power on the system without the Memory or the Video Card... I've tried everything that came across my mind with no efforts!!!!
Every time I give power to the MB appens only that the power led starts blinking, but pressing the button the PC doesn't turn on.
PLEASE HELP ME... I really don't know what else to do!!!
    Thanks,
    Alberto

    Hi thanks for the answers.
I do have a D-Bracket, but my problem is not that the system does not boot or does not post... my system DOES NOT POWER ON (!!!!), so d-bracket is useless!
When I plug the system power    the only thing that happens is that the power led starts blinking (with the system still in soft-off), and if I press the power switch button nothing happens!
I've the bios for 7025 v1.8 and the settings where for OFF on power-loss ond pressing the button (can't rememeber if it was more than 4 sec) was meant to turn off the computer, but considering that I un-powered the pc more than once without the MB battery the settings should be factory default by now.
I went through the Windows-XP shut-down system, and i could not be an electrical problem as I always used the PC with a pretty good UPS unit.
Right now these are the full specs of my sytem:
    - MB MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum nForce3 Ultra
    - GAINWARD 6800 2600 GLH 256 MB Ram
    - PSU Antec TruPower 550 W
    - CPU AMD64 3500+ core Winchester @11*210 Mhz (this cpu has never overclocked very well)
    - HEATSINK Thermalright XP-90 with a 12 Cm Enermax Fan (CPU temp in always below 55 °C when stressed)
    - 1 x 512 Mb RAM Crucial Ballistix DDR400 optimized for  MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
I left only these things inside my computer in the hope that it would turn on... it did not work. I tested each component but the MB, and they work perfectly.
    Again...
Thanks for you efforts, any help will be appreciated.
    Alberto.
All parts have been tested: CPU/RAM/GFX/PSU/HD/DVD,  just not the MOBO ?
Checked if the MOBO is shorting in the case ?
Have you tried using the reset switch as power, on/off switch ?  I've seen before when the power switch stops working (lose/bad wire busted spring) after swapping  reset to power, then the system turned on. Worth a try, as sending it back to USA won't be cheap. If its over 1 year old it mite not be covered by the re-seller and or MSI. Best to check this out as law and warranty is different from country to country.
    Good Luck

  • 9800XT - K8N problem

decided i didnt like my old motherboard so i got a k8n so i could do a bit of clocking.
installed board without a problem and did a fresh install of win xp sp1 (dont like sp 2). got all the latest drivers and installed untill i ran into a sevier problem with the graphic card drivers.
to begin with the card works fine under the standard xp vga driver but as soon as i insall the cats my machine will load untill the point of actually going to desktop and then lock. sometime the screen will be blank and other time it will be as thou it is out of resolution (max res = 1600 x 1024).
i have tried this with as many driver combinations as i can think of with alot of setting turned off in the bios including side band/fast writes/ apeture size.
i have tried the card in both DVI/vga mode and still the same and i have also tried the card in my other machine and all works fine.
If i put my ATI 9200 in my main machine everything works fine there.
    any ideas ????

other probably reason could be bad power supply.
    post full PC spec.
previous setup was the same except for the motherboard which was an abit KV8-MAX3 which worked perfectly.
the memory is designed to work at those cas settings but to rule out that option i have tried lowering the settings to less aggressive timings to no avail (it also works at 2,2,2,5 with my 9200) so i dont think ram is a problem.
i have done NO overclocking yet since i dont have a stable system (cpu and mem set to 200 mhz)
power is a enermax 365 watt but again has worked flawlesly with old motherboard and the 9200 full working system. (to test it i will be hooking up another power suppy tonight to just do the graphics card. i will also try adjusting up the agp voltage as you suggested)
thanks for the reply and any others will be welcome as i am out of ideas.

Don't understand the problem am i missing something???
If you noticed it says "S3 wake up". "S3" is waking up from STR = Suspend To Ram and thats considered as warm booting.. what I mean is booting the board cold from keyboard, hence "Power On by keyboard" If you have a compliant Keyboard 98 there is a button aptly named Power. There are 3 buttons on that kind of keyboards .. Sleep, Wake Up and Power.

  • Massive IMAP problem, multiple iPhones - constant spinning wheel

A friend has had problems using email on his iPhone since he got it, and now after a couple of months of no problems, mine has started doing the same thing.
The problem started for him on a UK 1.1.2 firmware iPhone with an IMAP account. If you start from scratch, manually setup an IMAP account, it will connect and get your messages. However later, you will find that the iPhone email program is constantly showing the spinning wheel at the top of the screen (showing activity), not the symbol at the bottom of the screen. Worse, the battery rapidly runs down (because it is doing constant data transfers), and worse new emails do not reliably get through. This happens whether you are using GPRS, EDGE, or WiFi (does not make a difference). This problem still happens with 1.1.3 firmware. There is so much data transfer happening (or trying to happen) that the phone actually gets quite warm.
This week after a couple of months of owning my own iPhone with 1.1.3 firmware has also started doing the same thing. My main IMAP account is on a totally different server, running a different server application to my friends. However it also seems to happen with GMail accounts (using IMAP).
I am currently at home and I can see my WiFi (AirPort Extreme) base-station showing lots of activity and I know that no other WiFi devices are active so it is purely the iPhone. Turning off the email account stops the problem (and I can then see the WiFi activity stop as well) but that is hardly a solution. Also setting it to manual polling for email helps but again is not a proper solution. It is so bad that sending emails is very difficult as well.
Even though at the iPhone end nothing seems to be coming through, one can see the iPhone as a connected user at the server end (I have access to the servers, obviously not for Gmail though).
My friend has swapped his phone four times at the Apple Store and still has the problem, and as I said mine has started as well. Turning off and on does not help, resetting network settings does not help.
Apple Mail on a Mac (running both Leopard and Tiger), and other IMAP clients have no problems with the same IMAP accounts (for both of us).
Other Internet access like Web, Stock Widget, Weather Widget, even the iTunes WiFi store work fine. It is just email that is broken.

    Pdobry wrote:
The problem is that Mail app in iPhone is trying to download message headers via FETCH command and does not handle properly response from IMAP server which does not support partial download of email headers. It starts asking for the headers in the infinite loop which quickly drains out the battery
More recent testing by myself reveals it is getting stuck on some messages when doing the 'message peek' to get the summary of an email. It gets the subjects fine (as the first pass) but then gets stuck on some emails when doing the second pass to get the summary. Apple Mail on a Mac does not (as far as I am aware) do a message peek so does not have this problem.
The two different makes of server I have seen this problem with do support this message peek command in that at least some of the time it is working with the iPhone.
I was able to get a debug level log which shows entries like this
\[02/Apr/2008 23:56:17\]\[48699904\] {imaps} Peek FETCH executed on message 0000ba58 in folder [email protected]/INBOX
    \[02/Apr/2008 23:56:17\]\[48699904\] {imaps} Sent 1 fetch responses
    \[02/Apr/2008 23:56:18\]\[48699904\] {imaps} Command 293 UID FETCH 47704 BODY.PEEK\[2.HEADER\]<1177.15207>
\[02/Apr/2008 23:56:18\]\[48699904\] {imaps} Peek FETCH executed on message 0000ba58 in folder [email protected]/INBOX
    \[02/Apr/2008 23:56:18\]\[48699904\] {imaps} Sent 1 fetch responses
    \[02/Apr/2008 23:56:18\]\[48699904\] {imaps} Command 294 UID FETCH 47704 BODY.PEEK\[2.HEADER\]<1177.15207>
The above shows two repetitions but it keeps on (and on, and on). Other occasions show this does work for other messages. If I deliberately arrange to get the iPhone to connect to get the latest messages I can see it get stuck on a particular message, and then even if I turn it off and back on and reconnect it will get stuck on the same message. If repeated on a later date then the contents of the inbox will have changed and the message it gets stuck on will be different.
As it seems to be linked to specific messages it was not a surprise that when this is tried on a practically empty email account the problem does not occur.
This has happened with multiple different makes of mail server (well at least two), multiple email accounts, multiple users, and multiple different iPhones (one person had his swapped four times). It does not happen with 'ordinary' IMAP client software, only with the iPhone.
Even if one for arguments sake assumes the mail server is at fault and is sending the iPhone garbage, the iPhone should only try a single specific email a maximum number of times (for example five), and then give up. This would prevent it draining the battery so fast and trying to cook itself (by constantly running its transmitter).
