K8N SLI and WinAmp5.05 Problem

The thing is when i listen to my Mp3s using WMP everything sounds fine crystal clear sound is coming from board's integrated SB Live!
24 bit.
However, whenever  i listen the same music from WinAmp, a crackling sound and hiss appears after a while...
...what is the problem?
Markoul

Due to interference through the groundlayer, I can hear whenever my harddrive is accessed, as HDD Active signal is +5V pulled down to ground. I can however not find exactly where the ground error lies (it might be the board, it might be the case, it might even be the PSU). So for the moment I am using an Audigy 2 that a friend sold to me for about $10 (the swedish equivalent). I have this problem only with the onboard audio. Otherwise the sound is as crisp and crystal clear as you could possibly want with analog speakers.
Have you disabled the Equalizer in Winamp (I never use that one)?
How many amps can your PSU handle on the -5V rail (required to have -5V)? The reason why I ask is that amplifying is created with a difference between +5V and -5V (or any voltage that you have a positive or negative of). The difference between the positive and the negative voltage produce the maximum possible amplification. However, if any of these voltages drop due to overload, the normal amplification range (and it's wave curve if you check frequencies with an oscilloscope) start to look rather strange, which might result in audiable interference inte produced signal (such as clicks, pops and crackling sounds).

    Hi from France
I've try to upgrade my computer all day long, and still have no solution about this..
    Mainboard: MSI K8N-SLI
    Processor: Athlon 64x2 4200+
    RAM: CORSAIR 1Go *2 PC 3200
Graphic card: MSI X1950 Pro 256 Mo Radeon
2 HD (WD 250 Go and WD 160 Go) on IDE 133 (supplied by the mainboard)
OK, I've connected everything, everythings seems to be well started, the CPU is recognized as ATHLON 64 X2 4200+, and I try to go into BIOS by pressing "DEL", as it is written on my screen (just beside "F11 to boot sequence)
Nothing happened, it seems that it freezes...
When I start the computer, I hear my HD starting, the graphic card also, everything...
    But what's going on ??
I'm a little bit disappointed, it's not the first time I do this kind of upgrade...
I've rebuilt my computer with "old" configuration MSI K7N L Athlon XP 3000+ and MSI 6600 Geforce
    Every thing is ok

Like a silly boy, I've connected too much things in the beginning (USB Hub I've forgot not to plug)..
And so without that, computer boots well, CPU is seeing good, RAM is OK and all the drives..
Some problems with my OS (XP and SP2), but as somebody says above, I needed to "repair" it, and all is good now
    Thanks for your answer...

  • K8N SLI SATA HD reboot problem

I built my system from scratch and have had it running for well over a year now (mayb two years?) with a K8N SLI-F mobo and Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 PATA without problems, in fact, I've been quite happy.
Then I bought the Hitachi T7K500 SATA and my system has been hell ever since.
    My procedurals:
    1) unplug PATA and plug in SATA
    2) boot to OS CD
    3) format SATA and install OS
    6) install drivers
    7) install firewall
    8) system reboots a few moments after loading desktop and doesn't stop until I shut it down manually
I did attach my SATA with a SATA cable to my mobo's SATA port.
I did follow correct procedures for installing OS, drivers and firewall (rebooting each time and being very careful).
I did try installing OS using SATA drivers that came on floppy with the mobo
I have reinstalled the OS three times and have been working on my pc for nine hours straight, not including breaks for meals.

I RMA the new drive because support recommended I replace the drive, my problem occurred only when I tried to install the new drive (was hardware related), I had thirty days to replace it and it certainly can't hurt. Why do you think I RMA a working drive btw?
Let me rephrase my question: how do I update my BIOS when I cannot make a bootable floppy and cannot boot to the OS?
thanks for all your help so far.
I RMA the new drive because support recommended I replace the drive, my problem occurred only when I tried to install the new drive (was hardware related),Why do you think I RMA a working drive btw?
I suspect that from the beggining.. Also tests maked after that and further info requested, confirm my suspicions.
"I had thirty days to replace it and it certainly can't hurt."
    kk..
"Let me rephrase my question: how do I update my BIOS when I cannot make a bootable floppy and cannot boot to the OS?"
Well in those condition, do that:
When your HDD replacement come, proceed as usual and install XP SP2,(you should be able to do that) and see if problem persist or not.
If problem is still there...(i expect to be still there, but could be wrong ofcourse...), then:
    * Try with different power cable for that drive.
    * Try with different data cable for that drive.
    Re-test, if no change:
Update your BIOS to the latest one version 1.8, you can download it from here:

  • Is there a big difference between MSI K8N SLI and MSI K8N SLI Platinum motherboa

i am a bit tight on budget, so I was wondering if I should get the MSI K8N SLI motherboard instead of the MSI K8N SLI Platinum motherboard (my previous choice),.......what do u guys say ?

    Hi,
Note that he is not talking about the Neo4 versions, looks like in the US MSI has different products:
    Here is the K8N SLI:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=681
And here is the K8N NEO4 SLI:
    http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4/SLI&class=mb
One has Sound blaster, the other does not.
Besides, K8N SLI Platinum has only one LAN.
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=641
While the Neo4 Platinum has two.
    http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4_Platinum/SLI&class=mb
A bit confusing right !? Remember that this forum is accessed by people all over the world.
The thing is that the Neo4 and the related non-Neo are using the same BIOS AFAIK.

  • MSI K8N SLI and AMD FX-60

Can someone please tell me if the AMD FX-60 CPU is compatible with the
    MSI K8N SLI (MS-7185) version 1.0 motherboard?
If I upgraded to this processor would its performance be limited by
the speed of my memory. I have 2.5 Gb PC3200 Corsair RAM.
    Many thanks!

    Quote
Yes I'm sure its back at 200MHz ie PC3200 but I don't know why the numbers are low. What else would you recommend that I use for benchmarking memory?
From the below statement I thought you meant you tried to run all 4 memory sticks at 200Mhz, I guess I misunderstood?
    Quote
However, I tried it with all four sticks and it also works in dual mode but only in 2T command rate. Although it went into 167 MHz memory frequency but I changed it to 200MHz to get PC3200 (400MHz).
Obviously from the sceenshot you have 2GB and 2 sticks and are at 1T, but what about 3GB.  I thought you meant running all 4 sticks at 200Mhz from what you said.  That is why I said the score is low.  Sandra is pretty linear when it comes to the bandwidth test.  If memory speed goes down from 200 to 167 that's about 17% reduction, add in 1-3% for 2T in Sandra, and you get very close to your 18% reduction in bandwidth for 3GB test.  Since it sounded like you said you adjusted 3GB to 200Mhz then the score would be too low for the 3GB run, as it appears it is still 166 at 2T.  If that's the case the score is pretty much right on the money.
BK's recommendations are good for other benchmarks, make sure to try real world apps though too.
Before you get into overclocking read some of the overclocking guide(like down in the overclocking modding section on the forum)

  • K8N SLI-F so many problems....but I don't think it's the board....

Well you never know it could be the board...but here's the problems.
For the first and most annoying problem. If I change anything inside my case that deals with the power supply the computer won't start unless I unplug one of my hdd. Right now I only have the 2 pata's plugged in because my sata didn't work so it needs to be replaced and the 120 gb pata won't let the computer start. If the hdd is plugged in the computer will start for a second and then turn off by itself. It will only do this once then I have to switch the powersupply off from the back and then switch it back on after a few seconds. I think it has to do with my powersupply but right now its running a 550w real power psu.
The next problem is raid. I have the 2 160's running under a raid 0 configuration but when I try to install windows xp, and its at the Installing Devices, I get a number of boxes asking me if I want to install these drivers which aren't xp certified. The drivers deal with the nVidia raid and sata and pata controllers. So anyways the boxes aren't a problem until I get to one where my mouse and keyboard die but the computer is still running because that little thing on the xp setup keeps going back and forth. both keyboard nad mouse are usb. I think the power supply has something to do with these problems but I don't know. I just bought most of these parts. Any help is good!
    -EDIT-
I fixed the problem in windows xp setup dealing with the raid and keyboard/mouse trouble. I downloaded new raid drivers from MSI and now it works. But...it crashes sometimes and as of yet I still haven't been able to log on to windows.
    Thanks,
    Rishi

Hi! Good news and some bad news. Bad news is that I think my power supply can't handle the load I'm giving it because the there are 3 12v rails and the amps on each aren't that high. The good news is that I fixed the raid problem. I was searching the net last night and found this site which told me everything I needed to know about fixing that damn raid problem. The reason my computer kept restarting after I installed windows xp on raid was because xp was installing the default windows disk controller drivers after the installation completed. Sooo, to fix this I had to slipstream my nvraid drivers to the windows xp setup cd and then install. It worked like a charm! Too bad my computer still randomly shuts off. It has got to be the power supply since I've checked if the board is getting shorted and all the connections etc... So I'm planning to buy a new power supply...any suggestions...I'd also only like 1x12v rail with atleast 32A. Otherwise, I'm good . Thanks to everyone that helped and if anyone has any more suggestions about the power feel free to let me know!
The site below told me how to fix the raid problem.

  • K8N SLI Platinum nf4 HD problems

    Hi all,
Today I wanted to run a defrag on my HD before making a backup, my system froze in between and I had to reset it.
After this, the boot was taking forever and the defrag program was very slow, freezing in every step:
    1- Calling it.
    2 - Pressing Analyse
    3 - and so on.
So I never got to ran the defrag again.
I decided to restore an image from 3 days ago.
Restored, the slow boot and the defrag were still there.
Puzzled, I decided to delete the page file and create a new one since it's in a second drive.
Anyway, still slow boot and the defrag problem.
Does anybody knows what may be wrong here ?
    Thanks

    A cold boot solved it.

Does anyone have a clue? It used to work like a charm.
    UPDATE:
Ok, it turned out to be a bad splitter, and now it works. HOWEVER, it's noisy when I surf the web, with static and interference distortion in the picture. I thought it might be the wireless card, so I pulled it, and kept it connected via ethernet, but that didn't fix it.

  • K8N SLI, and strange Vcore

Trying to get the most out of my Opteron 165, I've stumbled on this weird (?) problem with Vcore.
    VID
    HTT
    CPU
    Actual VID
    Actual Vcore
    Startup

    2.6 GHz

    300 MHz
    2.7 GHz
    1.350V
    ~1.35V (average)
System is unstable as hell if I boot @ 2.7 GHz with that VCore, with Windows and applications spitting out strange errors. Booting @ 2.6 GHz and then upping the frequency seems to work (primed for 24h yesterday), Vcore stays at 1.30V (average) in Windows.
Is this a known BIOS issue, or should I start worrying?

Quote from: aicjofs on 22-January-07, 15:47:46
I'm confused about the VID, and ACTUAL VID you posted.  Can you explain your definition of each so I understand.  I would guess that VID is what you are setting in BIOS, and actual is something you are reading somewhere, but I'm not sure.  What are you using for the Over VID value in the BIOS?
I'll try to make my definitions crystal clear
VID = VID as set in the BIOS.
Actual VID = VID as reported by programs (like CrystalCPUID) after booting Windows.
Actual VCore = VCore as reported by Speedfan. I know it's not accurate, but I'm not interested in the actual value, only the difference matters.
OverVID is zero, that's why you won't find it in the table
If you compare the first two rows of the table, you'll see the only difference is the HTT speed set in the BIOS, VID is the same: thus I would expect the Vcore to be the same, but for some reason, the board sets a higher Vcore without actually changing the VID.
Now compare the second and the third row: I lowered the VID in the BIOS (the idea behind that, is to boot @2700 at the same Vcore I have when I boot @2600) But the board ignores the setting: VID is always 1.350 no matter the change made in the setup.
Quote from: aicjofs on 22-January-07, 15:47:46
I'm thinking that your stability problem is the 1.35V, I know you have a great potential CPU but 1.35V may top out at 2.7 range, you may need to give it more Vcore if your cooling allows for this.
If I boot at 289 and then crank it up at 300, the CPU can handle 2700 @ 1.30 V actual vcore; but I can't just make it boot at 300 because the board sets a different Vcore and for some reason, this seems to have ill effects on stability.
ATM I'm not thinking of higher frequencies, I'm only trying to set it up to boot @ 2700 with no need of software adjustments (clockgen & the like)
Quote from: aicjofs on 22-January-07, 15:47:46
Another thing to note is the 12V rail of the Power Supply during all of this how does it comapre to your Vcore(i.e do they both track up and down the same?)
Didn't check this one; is it ok to put the leads into a molex connector, or do I have to put the leads inside the ATX12V CPU connector ?
Quote from: aicjofs on 22-January-07, 15:47:46
One last question, do you have good flow over the voltage regulator circuit?  Some aftermarket air cooling doesn't properly get the air over it and heat will make the voltage reg unstable as well as shortening it's life.
The heatsink on the voltage regulators is just warm, little above the temperature of my fingertips; some of them are not completely covered by the HS, they feel hotter, but not scorching.

    Hello everybody,
My problem is with a 2nd kit of 2x512 MB DDR I bought recently. I had a pair of  Kingston KHX3200ULK2 512 MB and unfortunately this model was discontinued, so I got another 2x512 MB DDR, this time Geil UltraX which should work @ 5-2-2-2-1T.
When leaving everything on auto, the motherboard sets the 4 modules at DDR333 with the tightest timing. I want to run them in DDR400, so I set them up manually @ 5-2-2-2-2T. In this config, everything is unstable. Sometimes the system doesn't boot, sometimes I get blue screens, etc.
Can somebody help me with some ideas ? The system appears to run stable with timings setup at 6-4-4-2-2T, but I really paid a lot on those modules and I'd like to squeeze the most out of them.
