K8N SLI Platinum boot problems

Hi there everyone,
I am new here so I am sorry for any mistake I make while setting up the topic.
Anyway, I have just bought this board but I have experienced some problems. When I turn on my PC it sometimes doesnt boot and halts on POST and sometimes when the logo of Win appears.
I dont know what to do . I have already loaded the latest BIOS, I run without overclocking but I still have these problems.
Here is my setup:
A64 3000+ (Venice)
Gainward 7600GS
Fortron 350W (20 pin and here could be the problem, coz mobo has 24pin)
2x512MB DDR PQI
Audigy 4
TV card Leadtek
80GB Seagate
Thanks for any help guys....

OK, guys, I guess you are right.
But I was to a website (I dont remember address) where you could compute the power supply you need according to your parts in PC and I had something about 240W so I hoped my PSU would be enough
Well, anyway thanks for help and I am going to shop for new power supply
//EDIT: I have P-ATA HDD and it is always detected. It gets stuck sometimes before HDD detection, sometimes after it and sometimes during the WIN logo....

Maybe i need to add more electric power for my memorys. The spec says 2.80 volt on 250 mhz but i start to suspect that this is just an minimum requirment, maybe i need more than 3.0 v to operate the memorys on high performance(beyond 230 fsb), but the thing is that BIOS allows me only too add 2.85v maximum.
Im trying to find a newer version of BIOS version 3.1 if there is any....
    Here: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/other/111
v5.0 Beta 4 allows to give 3.10V to the memory but i don´t think it´s going to help you, you probably have the CBBID issue.

well, yesterday i changed my amd box cooler and put the polo735.. everything was fine.. when i turn on the computer..dont boot and only a single bip every 4 or 5 secs..
i tryed everything, another mems, another vid card... i started my pc with only mems, vid and heatsink and nothing...only the beps
i put my cpu on another pc and works fine.. and put another cpu on mi mother and the same problem..
    i clear cmos and nothing
i change the psu for a generic 520w and nothing
    plz HElp
    cyas
EDIT: DBRACKET led 1, 2, 4 in red // led 3 in green

Sounds like bad/not levered pressure from the new heatsink to the cpu HS .
Make sure it correct aligned and the right way and has the correct pressure
to the cpus heatspreader . Also make sure motherboard can read the fans rpm .
    [edit:]
btw i agree with bas , your current psu is weak .
The polo fan also is a very watt hungry fan compared to boxed .

  • K8N SLI Platinum BIOS problems

For a long time now i have been unable to enter my BIOS Screen at all.
Its quite annoying as im using it as my file server and since i cant change the settings i cant stop it from complaining about the absense of a floppy drive.
All it does when i attempt to enter the BIOS it displays a Black screen with a flashing cursor.
i have tried reflashing to an earlier BIOS but none from 3.3 and above have worked at all to change this.
I tried looking thru the forums for a similar problem but the only ones i managed to find was for the K8N Neo4 where they saidit had something to do with CPU temperature readings being on the negative side of 0. i can confirm my motherboard is doing the same thing since i use both Motherboard Monitor 5 and MSI's Core Centre, both read around -38°c.
Could this be the same issue and if so how on earth do i fix it.
As i said i tried using a BIOS flash and also tried flashing all parts of the BIOS including the Boot block.

Unlucky to you that you may need either to RMA the mobo if there is a warranty in your country or else you can used the Modded bios this can solve you -temperatures. How did you flashed your bios? Using liveupdates or manual? It seems that you're using the liveupdates to updates. Am I right? When was the last time ou flashed the bios? GD luck.

  • MSI K8N SLI FI Boot Problems

    Hi All
Im new to this forum and Im hoping you guys might be able to help me out with what appears to be a simple enough problem.
I recently decided to do another self build project and aquired a few new bits and bobs. Everything was going great and I did a barebones boot to the bios configuration screen. set a few settings...detected the HDD etc but when I saved settings and rebooted all I got was to the XP splash screen and the system rebooted. I got a slight flash of the dreaded blue screen of death before the reboot. I went back to the startup screen and disabled the reboot on failure option so I could see the error message. I had a look in the microsoft kb and came up with this header.
You receive a Stop 0x0000007B error after you move the Windows XP system disk to another computer
It basically says that the windows registry and drivers is not configured for the new mobo(the bios is different manufacturer). I dont want to have to change my HDD or lose all my data so is there a way I can install drivers for both Bios prior to swapping the HDD over to the new comp??  Microsoft has suggested either the new HDD and complete XP install or doing something called a registry merge which looks way complicated and pretty dodgy.
Anybody any ideas?  surely this must have been seen loads of times before.
    Cheers in advance.
    S

Well you have given precious little informnation of the hardware in your system, in particular the previous board/chipset; you may however be able to get away with a repair install of windows.  You will not lose any programs or data but will have to download windows updates again.  Would be less troublesome if the disk had SP2 integrated.

  • K8N SLI Platinum audio problem

I have some problems with on-board audio, I can't find any solution on this Forum:
    1. I hear loud noise from my speakers MT 323 5.1 after booting in Windows, same speakers connected to my second PC (Abit NF7S +Soundstorm) are noiseless. If I use headphones connected to MB AUD1 from case front panel, there is no such noise. So this is not speakers fault.
    2. Channel separation is almost OK, but I hear right rear channel in central speaker during test from Speaker Settings panel.
Overall quality of sound is very good, only above problems
This situation not depends on SB Live! 24 bit drivers - 5.12.1.353 and ...356 - same problem. Of course my PSU has -5V rail.
Maybe somebody had such kind of problem?

    Thanks Richard for your reply,
I had done what you had suggested, with software volume level controls set from 100% to 0% there is no difference in noise level, with speakers controls I'm reducing noise level but it is still in background. If I am in SuSE Linux mode I don't hear noise with 100% volume level (both software and hardware controls).
    regards
    Bogdan (Body_55)

  • Major MSI K8N SLI no Boot Problem

The other day I noticed in CPU-ID that my CPU was running only at 1125mhz or so. This is because the Multiplier was set at 5x, which I thought was strange. I went into the BIOS and reset it to 11x (have a winchester 3500+ CPU) and rebooted...still was only getting 5x as the multiplier. I know that Quite and Cool was disabled also in the BIOS so that couldnt have caused it. I then went into Clockgen and set it to 6x, with no problems, then went to 10X where I got a beep from my PC speaker and BSOD. I tried rebooting the computer after this and well it doesnt do anything. It powers on and I have 4 red LEDs' on the Troubleshooting bracket. So far I've removed the CPU and reseated it and tried clearing the BIOS, though the BIOS reset button on the board and removing the battery for an hour or two...with no change in the LED's. I tested the CPU in another system, and it works fine, since the troubleshooting bracket said that the CPU migth be the cause. I checked the voltage off the PSU (Maddog 500 or 600 Watt PSU) and they are checking out alright.
Any outher suggestions or is it time to RMA the motherboard?

Try it disconnecting the power connector from the MOBO for a minute and then put it again and start the system...
    Did that..no change

    Hello there,
Do you have any possibility of using another processor for test?? Or even test your processor in another MoBo??
The CPU works fine on another mother board

  • K8N Sli Platinum sound problems

    Hi.
I'll get right to it: the sound is very faint and if i turn the volume up it sounds like it's clipping.
I've had the mobo for about a year now and this problem appeared about two weeks ago, and it is not because of the lack of a -5 V pin, because the psu has one and i also saw the MSI voltage converter near the second PCI-E slot. There are no device conflicts, and it sometimes started to sound ok but i noticed no pattern.
If anybody has an idea, please shout...

Does it happen with headphones too?
yes, it happens with anything plugged in either of all 4 outputs (in 7.1 mode).
The last driver i had installed is: Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit and Sound Blaster Audigy LS driver 1.04.0055 (Aug 05), off the creative site, and it worked fine before.

this was fixed by making a bios reset. on the next day i was record a cd and got an error something about "fixing session", after this has happen the drive has simply died. it doesn't recognizes blank or recorded stuff, nothing, it's just blind.
the drive is a sony dru530a.
is this a motherboard issue? cause on the old board i never had problems with my drives.
    Thanks for helping.

  • K8N SLI Platinum Boot up screen full of dots

On boot up when going through the sequence. My display is showing multiple dots of lines ( basically they look like full stops with 3 in a vertical row then a space then repeated again downwards across the whole screen) as well as the boot information. Also when going into the bios the dotted lines are in the same place. These are a series of full stop dots running downwards with a gap of 1cm going across.
Windows does struggle to load but once loaded then running any programs is slow and scrolling word documents is slow like using a old 386 comp. I have reinstalled all drivers for mother board and graphics card ones and still no joy.
Please could anyone suggest what could be wrong.
    Thanks
    Mark

well the dots bit in bios makes me think bad vga card
    reseat it

  • K8N SLi Platinum USB keyboard boot issues

Hello, I have a K8N SLi Platinum connected via an Aten US221 USB switch (http://www.aten-usa.com/?product&cat=804&Item=US221) and a Kensington USB hub to a Logitech MX518 mouse and a Logitech multimedia pro keyboard. I use this to connect the same two input devices to two computers and toggle. Previously I used a keyboard to each, with a Dell PS/2 used on the MSI motherboard.
The problem is that the MSI motherboard fails to detect the keyboard every other boot or so. It doesn't matter if I unplug the Aten switch, the USB hub or even connect it directly to the USB root hub. The only thing that solves it to restart the MSI computer over and over until it decides to start working. And I need the keyboard since I have a bootloader (GRUB) that I select which OS to boot with. The switch and keyboard works without a hitch on an older Dell computer which is also connected in tandem.
Since I need both mouse and keyboard on a single wire I cannot use a USB-to-PS/2 connector. I've found several posts here which suggests this motherboard is buggy, if that's the case shouldn't MSI issue some sort of BIOS patch?
    Sincerely, Martin "xarragon" Persson

    Might work.
I don't like the inconsistency you describe: working sometimes and after a lot of reboots. Would you say your system parts, please. Troubleshooting this in your end must include finding a situation where it never works, and when it always work. For example, if you don't have the mouse connected at all, if you don't use the hub, etc.
Not saying motherboards can't be damaged, specially port end, but the hub thing is a more likely culprit.

  • K8n SLI Platinum can't get OS to boot

    Linked over from https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=97317.0
Greetings - This is linked from the above thread and I was advised to come here to see if anyone could sheed some light on this...
    System is:-
    AMD64 3500+
1gb of Corsair Low latency 2-2-2-5
    2 barracuda 300gb hard drives
K8N SLI Platinum mo-bo (now sadly running in single card mode...)
    PSU - Hiper HPU-4S525
    NX6600GT TD128E (Newer version)
    Forceware - Nvidia Version: 84.21.
Problem is - I have two versions of the 6600GT and the older one will work without a problem - either in SLI or in single card mode but the newer one causes the machine to hang at OS boot - I have tried booting with the card in slot two (running in SLI mode)  with the card in slot 1 (running in non-sli mode) and with the newer card in slot 1 (running in SLI) but still the same result - Is it the card, my PCU or a mo-bo problem?!?!
    Any advice/help Greatly appreciated!

What motherboard BIOS version are you running? The original?
A newer version might help: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=641&kind=1

  • Any known problems: MSI K8N SLI Platinum + seagate 7200.9 sata2 hdd?

    Hi all.
I planning to buy Seagate sataII 7200.9 250GB drive (model: ST3250824AS) very soon (finally they are in stock in my city), but first i want to know is there any incompatibility issues or other problems with such combination - MSI K8N SLI Platinum + seagate 7200.9 series hdd.
I don't have any experience with sata2 drives yet. Currently i'm using seagate 7200.7 120GB IDE hdd.
I don't plan use RAID or use that new 7200.9 drive in combination with current 7200.7 drive (will use current hdd in other pc).
    Any tips/experience would be great.

Seagate SATA II 7200.9 250GB drive (model: ST3250824AS) has both 3 G/bps speed and NCQ (Native Command Queuing) most all MB’s with the nVidia Chipsets using the nForce4 chip will have problems.  If they are not using RAID and you reduce the speed to 1.5 G/bps with a single drive you maybe able to get it to work.  Personally, I know the MS-7125 and MS-7220 both will not run RAID with those to motherboards.
I have been battling with MSI and ASUS over this problem sense November and they have not come up with a fix.  Problem involved BIOS and RAID Controller Driver for the chipset.  Most MSI motherboards latest BIOS have fixed the BIOS half of the problem.  There is an unreleased 32-bit driver for Windows, but nothing for Windows XP 64.
