K8T fir upgrade PCI express?

I don't know much about the history of my MB , but I was wondering if there is a later model, Same promise controller. but with A PCI express slot and possibly more memory capacity. I don't want to start a new windows re install
I know that there is a certain risk in windows not being happy with a different mb but , if the raid system is the same , Maybe a worst case senario of a repair install .
Thanks in Advance>

There's a trick for windows XP that make possible to move the entire partition/installation or even the entire hard drive to new hardware:
1) download this file: http://www.wintricks.it/windxp/dload/RE-install-2.rar
2) verify the presence of this files under *:\windows\system32\driver
- Isapnp.sys
- Atapi.sys
- Intelide.sys
- Pciide.sys
- Pciidex.sys
If not available, you can get'em from the downloaded file.
3) import the .reg file (REinstal.reg)
Now you're ready to move the partition to a new hardware, using some partition clone software/utility/tool to clone the entire raid installation onto a new hard drive, naturally the size of the new hdd should be enough to contain the entire partition
BTW, if i'm not wrong, this trick can work only on eide/pata or in sata emulating eide/ata, so I guess no SATA AHCI (or advanced features) for now: you should clean install with slipstreamed drivers (like with nlite) to use those features. Or better clean install Windows 7 that's better.

  • Which pci express Fire Wire card uses TI chipset?

    Hi all
could anyone tell me which PCI express Fire Wire 400 card uses the Texas Instruments chip set? Have been looking all over but could not find one so far.
All help welcome on this one!

I use an Aaxeon, but there are many others, including SiiG, Nitro etc.

  • USB PCI-Express Card half working???

    I just purchased and installed a SYBA PCI-Express USB 2.0 5 Ports Controller Card (Model SD-PEX-NEC5U) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812186010&Tpk=SD-PEX-NEC5U
I think it's half-way working. I did some researching prior to my purchase and I was under the impression that the Mac Pro (2006) could accept any PCI-express card. I have my Kensington USB bluetooth adapter plugged in (to the internal port) and it powers the adapter light and both my wireless mouse and wireless keyboard work perfectly. However any of the devices I plugged into the rear 4 ports are not working... (ie my Western Digital 1 TB hard drive that has 2 partitions on - one for Time machine backups and one for regular storage)
According to the Syba website, Mac OSX is not listed as a supported OS. The card came with a drivers disc but doesn't have any Syba drivers on it... tons of other manufacturers.
Can anyone offer advice about installing drivers or "adding hardware" (a la Windows)? Again, it's working with my bluetooth... so whats up with my hard drive?

A safe place to check and start your research is OWC.

As for MyBook - they can be iffy; if a drive fails, it is built into the case, so I prefer to buy cases with USB/FW and that you can install a drive yourself, even if comes with one.
USB: when there is FireWire and you can easily add SATA PCIe, yes they cost more but then they can drive multiple drives at full performance too.
When you buy generic cards, see if they use the same chipset as found in Sonnet Allegro and others.
    Then check
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ for reports in their upgrade database and articles.
And no, it requires PCIe, but not just any (and even PC with Windows 7, some cards can also be problem).

  • Can Any one please help me find a compatible Wireless N MINI PCI Express Card for my HP G50-133us?

I have a HP G50-133US notebook, it currently has a Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter. I am looking to upgrade it to a B/G/NWiFi Card. I can find plenty of Mini Pci-Express Wireless N cards but not sure if they are compatible. Does anyone know if as long as it is Mini PCI-Express and have the correct drivers this would work? Or does anyone know if a known working upgrade that would work? Any help would be appreciated!! Thank you!.

You MUST get an HP branded wi-fi card AND it has to be on the "white list" for your computer in the BIOS or the card will block the computer from booting with an error message. Here is a link to your Manual:

Page 19 starts the list of known compatible wifi cards.
You can search eBay by part number for the card and likely find one at a decent price.

  • S/PDIF options for PCI Express X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound card non-existant!

Hey guys, I've been searching around for this for a while now and I still come up with anything...
I currently have a PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound card installed in my PC, and this cound card has a built-in optical output port. I have been trying to set the sound card to use this port and I still can not find anyway around it.
I have searched the support pages and they always go back and say that I can enable audio on that port using the Digital I/O icon in the media console (I'm in Entertainment mode btw, doesn't seem like I can change that). However, I don't have that icon present in my media console. I tried upgrading drivers, updating software but still to no avail
So right now i'm running Windows XP (32-bit) and what seem to be the latest software and drivers for this card, and none of this is making any sense to me and so I believe that I am going mad!
I am honestly starting to believe that the port is just there for decoration...

This seems to be a fairly common issue across out in the market.
Do you not think it would be worth while chasing this down internal to Creative and sharing the solution with everyone?
Pointing us one at a time to support for what should be readily available drivers doesn't make a lot of sense.

  • Late 2004 G5 w/ PCI Express x16?

The Mac Support page with the Late 2004 Powermac G5 user manual link is not working properly. So, I'm asking here.
Does the early model of Powermac G5 (Late 2004) have PCI Express x16 architecture on the motherboard? I have the Dual 2.0Ghz version. The reason I'm asking is that I'd like to upgrade the video card on it to a new Nvidia GeForce 7900 GT but that requires a PCI Express x16 slot.
Please let me know. If not, do you know what architecture it has? Thank you in advance.
    Powermac G5 Dual 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Just an update for those interested in video card options with AGP slots rather than the newer PCI Express architecture...
After communicating with the Strangedogs people, I went ahead and purchased an Nvidia GeForce 7800GS (256MB RAM) to be 'flashed' to work in a Mac system (read about 'flashing' BEFORE using it as an option). This is the BEST AGP card on the market today and with AGP dying out to PCI Express, you'll probably see fewer and fewer AGP cards in the future. My other AGP option was the ATI Radeon X800 XT 256MB RAM (Mac Version) but the GeForce uses the newer architecture and is suppposedly about 16% better in terms of high end performance (see http://www.barefeats.com/mutant3a.html). Obviously the PREFERRED option was to upgrade my entire system to PCI Express architecture, but as with many others, too much money for too little improvement at the moment.
    Pros:
    Performance boost (+16%)
    Newer architecture
Cost about $100 less than ATI X800 XT Mac Version (cost is about the same with $100 cost of 'flashing' unless you can do it yourself)
    Cons:
No dual-DVI for 30" Apple Cinema display
Modification to a PC designed card (not standard practice)
I currently have the ATI Radeon 9600 XT card, so I expect a big performance boost. I'll report with the results from Strangedogs and the 'flashing' of the 7800 GS...

  • How does one find out if they PCI or PCI express

i have a dual 2.7ghz and im looking to pick up a PCI audio interface, how do i know if i have PCI slots or PCI-Express?

    Some more tidbits...
If you have AGP video, you don't have PCIe.
If your system has dual-core (or DP/DC) you have PCIe.
There are no 2.7GHz G5s that have PCIe currently. Harder to tell with 2.0, 2.3, and 2.5. The G5 2.0 came in PCI-X but then the 1.8DP PCI was upgraded to 2.0 cpus but retained PCI and 4 RAM slots (and has poor disk write PCI performance).
When I see "PCI" then it is a matter if it has 2 x 100MHx PCI slots and one 133MHz slot or is "just PCI 33MHz slots."

  • Employee at the Genuis Bar told me to get pci-express firewire 800 card

told me any card would work in my new.......well it WAS new till they announced upgrade, 2x3ghz quadcore xeon.
I want to add another firewire 800 bus since I have the AJAHD hooked to the existing bus.
So I went to Fry's and got the "PCI-express firewire 800/1394b controller card 3 ports".
put it into one of the empty slots, rebooted, and got nothing, just some dull chimes, that don't stop.
it fit within my macpro, but it was a lot shorter than the SATA card, that had no problems.
So I guess I need to know exactly what type of firewire 800 card to I have to get.

I installed 1 of these in an 8 core OS 10.4.11 FCp 6.0.2 QT 7.3.1 dedicated to io HD
don't recall a driver disk for mac, however I rarely if ever use the supplied driver disk for anything anymore 'cause it's almost always out of date. go to mfg site and get drivers etc.
this is the first link I saw googling siig
    http://www.smalldog.com/product/42566/atfgc
by the way it worked great. needs a 1 lane slot. you'll need to check expansion slot utility. typically goes in slot above gfx card or slot4 (top) slot

  • Need PCI-Express booster cable pinout/connector pin matching

Does anyone have an upgrade card for the mac pro, like a NVidia Quadro 4500 or the ATI 1900XT? I need the pinout for the booster cable that comes with those cards so i can connect my 7800GT to the motherboard to get the extra power.
If anyone could provide the pinout for the motherboard connector, showing which pins have the ground and which have the +12V connectors i would really appreciate it.
An alternate pinout would be which pins on the video card side match which pins on the motherboard, which would be also very useful, something like:
    video card motherboard
    |-| <-- the clip |-| <---- the clip
    |1|2|3| |1|2|3|
    |4|5|6| |4|5|6|
    or
    video card motherboard
    |-| <-- the clip |-| <---- the clip
    |12V|+12V|12V| |12V|+12V|12V|
    |GND |GND |GND | |GND |GND |GND |
    Any help will be appreciated

    hey Renaud
i'm planning to buy a pair.. but i'm not sure if it will fit....
one end plugs into the motherboard.. the other end goes into the vid card
but the question is does it fit the Mac Pro pci express power socket?
and the other end of it does it fit any standard pc vid card? or is it also smaller?
as i plan to buy this for my Mac Pro so i can power up the 8800 gtx
    thanks!

  • HP TS 520-150 mobile PCI express module mxm.

THe graphics specs on my TS 520-1050 states the following:
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD (DX10.1)
*Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed.
Integrated Intel HD 2000 graphics (supported by the processor)
One Mobile PCI Express Module (MXM) socket  MXM 3.0 version: Type A
    <35W
Shared memory up to 256 MB
    ====================================
So my question is if the system above says "*Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed." t why can not a 3rd party PCI card be installed like the . AMD has the ATI Radeon™ E4690 MXM PCI card available. ? I love the system and it works very well, the only draw back is the Intel HD2000 graphics which brings the system down
    Any thoughts
    More on the card.
    http://www.amd.com/us/products/embedded/graphics-processors/Pages/ati-radeon-e4690.aspx

thanks....kind of figured that may be the issue. So that means a bios upgrade would be in order from HP which I would think based on the new MXM cards coming out woulf justify

    Hi,
The NVIDIA should work with the PCI-E 1.1 bus that your PC has in it.  You might want to search this forum for NVIDIA 650 compatibility issues.

Anything else you think is relevant: Using a  PROMISE SuperTrak EX8350 RTL PCI-Express x 4 SATA II Controller Card.
    Ok, here is my problem:
I can not, for the life of me, get this PCI-Express raid card to show the raid's BIOS screen (or get my BIOS to see the controller so I can boot off it). Basically this is needed to setup the array, see the array status when the system boots, and boot off the array, etc.. If I was running windows I would be totally screwed for booting off the array but with linux I can boot off of it as I can load the kernel (only the kernel) with the drivers on it from another boot drive and boot off the array.
I had to put the raid controller in another one of my comps (had to put a PCI vid card in that one as it only had one PCI-E x16 slot) to setup the initial array. The controller works perfectly fine with this mobo (as it is detected/acessible from linux) the only problem is when my system POST's I have no way to manage the RAID array which is quite annoying. I already tried updating to the newest BIOS for my mobo and I think it is something specific with this mobo or something as I had no problems using my sister's comp which is an AM2 socket mobo (also nforce chipset) which is the same brand (MSI).
Some things I have tried already:
Upgrading to the newest BIOS version
Taking out the geforce 8600 gt and putting in  a PCI vid card and trying the raid controller in each of the x16 PCI-E slots (running in x8 mode because the board is set to SLI mode (the raid controller requires atleast a x4 slot).
Any ideas or am I SOL?
Also, maybe this should be in the BIOS section?

Just thought I would mention, this board as listed as a compatible product for my mobo here:
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=prodtestreport&prod_no=1141&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=170&cat3_no=#menu
If you click on SCSI controllers it gives you a link to here:
    http://global.msi.com.tw/uploads/test_report/TR2_1141.pdf
And my card is listed on the very bottom entry of that pdf file. Not having any access to the RAID controller's BIOS is pretty lame.

  • Zalman CNPS7700-Cu/AlCu Heatsink on Neo2 K8T FIR ?

Does anyone know if the Zalman CNPS7700-Cu (http://www.zalmanusa.com/eng/product/view.asp?idx=145&code=005) or the Zalman CNPS7700-AlCu (http://www.zalmanusa.com/eng/product/view.asp?idx=146&code=005) Heatsinks fit on the Neo2 K8T FIR motherboard?
The original fan I got with my Athlon64 3000 939 is so noisy that I just have to change it.
At least i hope it is just a question of fan, because I get also a very high frequency barely hearable noise (because of the frequency) that puts real pressure on my ears.
Hope it's not the motherboard making that sound!?

Supposedly the 7700 will fit, But then since an XP-120 will Fit and the 7700 is not something I know too much about, I'll stick with the XP-120 of which I have on My Neo2-F and Yes I just purchased on ebay a Neo2-FIR for $93.00 So now I'll need a cpu(3200 90nm), heatsink(xp-90, As I already have a 92mm 119cfm fan in zoom1) and psu(520w Aspire) for It, As It's a cheap upgrade(As inexpensive as possible as I can get an xp90 for $38.00 plus shipping) of one of My present PCs, For Me a 92mm fan is ok, As the PC is in another room and the Keyboard, Video & Mouse is in the Front room of My house.
