K8t master 2 questions....

Ok, soon I'm picking up a k8t master 2 and two opteron 240s with an Antec 550watt EPS12V PSU.
But I have a question.
Are the CPU heatsink mounting wholes compatible with p4 heatsinks?
I'd like to pick up a pair of Swifttech MCX4000s, but need to be sure before I buy them.
The MCX4000s are very large, well they don't appear any large than the retention mechanism, so even next to the AGP with a MCX4000 my ATI Radeon 9700 Pro should still fit.

I emailed Gamepc and they said it "should" work, but they used the ones that came with the motherboard.
I guess I'm just leary of spending $80 for two heatsinks if there's a chance they won't work.
For what I've read the MSI ones that come with it are noisy and I don't know about their actual cooling ability. But I know the Swifttech MCX4000 are top notch heatsinks. That and call me funny, but I like matching heatsinks.

K8T Master 2 FAR; Hard Drive Questions About

I just got off the Google bus and stubbed my toe on your doorstep. What luck!
I have many questions, and it's getting harder to find answers for a mainboard that's not being sold "new" anymore. I did see some other topics that go along lines similar to my own, but I figured it would be a good idea to open a new thread with my specific questions.
I have decided to split my questions into three parts. This is part one, "hard drive" questions.
HARD DRIVE RELATED:
Western Digital recently announced a new high-capacity SATA Raptor drive, with 150 GB of storage:
1) Can I mount two of them into my K8T Master 2 FAR system and "hardware stripe" them for Windows/XP?
....1A) If yes, is there a minimum recommended BIOS that I should be running?
....1B) If no, then would it be feasibile to "software stripe" them in Windows/XP Pro?
If I decide to proceed, I will be well-prepared to accept the risk of data loss that would occur if one drive were to crash.
I currently run my system with a removable SATA drive caddy for my system drive. This makes it easy to swap OS's by swapping hard drives without opening my CPU case. If I go with a dual-striped SATA drive arrangement and two Raptors, then I'll replace that removable caddy with a unit that can accomodate two SATA drives.
....1C) Once in a blue moon, I get a BSOD after having swapped SATA drives. It happens when I first boot Windows/XP after having run Linux. Hot-swappable claims notwithstanding, I always swap drives while the system is powered down, although I don't typically shut off the hardware switch at the power power supply. Are there any known issues or reports of other people having similar occurrences?
I also run some IDE devices for data and archival purposes. My system is typically set up as follows:
CH 0/0 - Data drive
CH 0/1 - DVD burner
CH 1/0 - Data drive
CH 1/1 - Data drive
Recently, my system stopped "seeing" any hard drives on CH 1 drive 1. Known good drives won't show up in the BIOS, and auto-detect doesn't "see" a drive in that position. I have tried more than one drive, and the problem stays on that channel and position. I swapped cables with a known good cable, and the problem stays on that channel and position. For the time being, I have disconnected one of the data drives...but I'd really like to resolve this issue if possible.
....1D) Are there any known problems or issues with "disappearing IDE devices" in the K8T Master 2 FAR?

Can't say, this is the first time I hear about SATA caddies....
Maybe a bad contact or so?
Sata is pretty sensitive to connection problems, or even folded cables for that matter...

MSI K8T Master2 Questions

Hello everyone I am looking at purchasing the K8T Master 2 and have a some questions.
1. Can you disable ECC for the memoy?
2. Is there an option to do this in the BIOS?
3. Does it have multiple PCI segments? And if so how many? I know that the TYAN Tiger K8W is designed as a server board and has does not have this and as a result suffers from bottlenecks, the 33MHz, 32-bit PCI bus is completely overloaded with SATA, GbitLAN, 1394 and USB2, and must hop through two tunnels over a slow link.
This is required for two PCI Audio DSP cards which are going to be used on the board. I need the option to put the devices on their own PCI bus segment to avoid performance degradation. This is a must.
4. What is the story with the heatsinks? Is it true that you are unable to fit the Opteron stock HSF's? Does the board ship with HSF's?
5. What has been your experience of the board?
6. I have two 1GB sticks of Corsair TWINX1024R-3200C2PT (which is unsupported)is anyone running this memory or other memory with aggressive timings on this board? I know that this memory currently works on my TYAN Tiger with my opterons @ ddr400 (I am unable to set the timings). And is it true that you cannot use more than 2 sticks with the board.

You can't set any timings, except the CAS setting but that's it.
You can use 4 sticks if you like, I do

K8d or k8t master far?

Hello to all, looking at a server mobo what do you all think would be the better board?
k8d master far ms-9131 amd chipped
k8t master far ms-9130 via chipped
Ive looked and cant seem to find out if the k8d can use a dual core, I know the k8t is single core Dual processer mobo..
second suggest a PSU
are either boards very picky on ram pc2700
going to be the server for my shop. trouble free and last a long time!!

The MS-9130 is the K8T-Master-2FAR does NOT support Dual-core or new CPU's the FAR7 does, see below !
You are mixing numbers and boards here.
Let me show you the pages of the right boards:
>>K8T Master 2FAR-7<< = MS-9617 and does support ALL new CPU's, incl dual-core. Workstation board socket 940.
>>K8D Master3-133<< = MS-9161 ver2 and does support ALL new CPU's, incl dual-core. Server board socket 940.
As you are looking at the K8T Master 2FAR (MS-9130) and the K8D Master3 (MS-9161 ver1) boards, they are NOT the same and do not support the latest CPU's.
Please pay attention to this, as you are looking at the old boards, not the new ones.

K8T Master and PNY PC3200 optima memory PC won't boot

I have an older K8T Master 2 proc machine I have started to re-use for various OS's. Having only 1gb of memory in it I bought two new PNY Optima 1gb sticks to use either as replacement or in addition to the gigaram I have in the machine already.
The gigaram that has been running forever is PC3200 so I specifically purchased Optima PC3200 also.
The MOBO manual says it supports 3200, 2700 and a few lower specs.
When I try either a stick, or both sticks in any of the memory slots the PC won't boot and just beeps constantly. I'm pretty sure I have the right memory type for the machine and i'm at a loss as to why it won't boot. But since I don't do this very often I thought asking on the forums would help.
Is there some kind of mismatch between optima and the K8T? The manual says each slot should support up to a 2Gb stick and it can support up to PC3200.
I've tried each stick in different slots, only one in the machine in each slot, i've looked in the BIOS and don't see anything there. At this point i'm out of ideas of what to look for.
Anyone got a suggestion?

Dual Opteron 250 replaced the dual Opteron 242 one week ago
BIOS upgrade to 1.4
Window Vista 64bit from Window XP Pro
The POST, Device Manager detect two new CPUs. However, there are only one CPU being utilize in task manager (yes, I have check one graph per CPU). It appear from the forum that BIOS 1.35B5? would work but I could not find it. Try to install Window XP Pro but failed (flopppy drive does not work).
Any help and suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

K8T Master 2 with 2 x 250's

HI guys, i am at my witts end.
I have got a K8T master 2
2 x opteron 250's
4 x Hynix PC3200 512 ECC-Reg dims (2GB)
When i turn the blighter on i just get 1 long beep (which repeats). I have had the CPU's checked by AMD and have had the board replaced at dabs. Still no luck.
The board is brand new, my big worry is that the CPU's arent recognised as the board might not have the latest 250 capable bios. Do i need to get hold of an older CPU to post and bios update or should it just run the procs as older variants?
Anyone got any other ideas. PSU should be plenty powerful enough.
I have never seen the Post screen and am starting to think i never will......

No it is in the correct hole by the ATX backplate and usb connectors. (With the bit of paper over it)
I am worried i may have originally plugged it into the agp socket bit. Could this have damaged the board?
I have tried 2 PSU's with it, 1 is a 550 watt and now im using an antec 380 watt. All i want to do is get it to post. If i thats the problem ill get a more powerfull one but i was under the impression it would at least post.
Can anyone recommend a PSU that i could source from the UK to fit into this if that is the problem?

I flashed it and it caused my hard drive light to stay on all the time. Went back to the beta 118 and all is well. How can MSI put out a BIOS that does something stupid like that?

Trouble booting k8t master far2

When I boot the PC gives 1 long beep and the is no image on the monitor (and it is on)
I got this system :
- MIST, 500W, 20/24 pins, S-ATA
- k8t master far2 (org. bios)
- 2 * opteron244 (au)
- 2* 1 gb Apacher pc 3200 400 RAM
- 2*sata western 200gb + 1 western 120gb
- nvida quadro 980xl
- Sound Blaster Audigy 2

And what about that PSU.
You need at least 30A on a single 12v rail !

K8T Master & Nvidia Quadro4 NVS 400??

I was just wondering if anyone here is using an Nvidia Quadro4 NVS 400 (4 display PCI video card) with the K8T Master-2 FAR motherboard?? After having nothing but problems trying to get two dual-head video cards to work on this mobo (one AGP, 1 PCI) I've decided to maybe try a single quad-display PCI card, but was hoping for some input before I make any purchases.

I did use a different switch and it did the same thing.
I haven't tried a higher wattage one but I doubt it needs that much juice,
especially without anything plugged , ie. hdd, cdrom...

ADM K8T Master start up problems

I have just got my self an K8T master motherboard for dual opteron, the problem that i am having is that there is no singal going to the moniter but the CPU fans spin and everthing ells seems to be working. I've tested the graphics card on other motherboards and it works find. There are no bleeps or anything i'm completely stuck on what to do any help would be great,

What type of RAM are you using ? (it *has* to be registered, and ECC is recommended).

I have just put together a dual sys
- on a k8t master far2 opteron244
- gail 1gb*2 3200 dual channel RAM
- sata western 200gb + ata disc for windows(not installed yet)
- nvida quadro 980xl
I get a error bip when I try to boot the pc for the first time
-can anyone link me to a page where I can find the error codes?
or if anyone know what I might have done wrong -please post.

That PSU wasn't ment to power 2 CPU's. Like Bas suggested: better get one with a single rail, so you will have enough to power both CPU's.

Any Recommended cpu Fans or PSU for the k8T master 2

I've got the motherboard working but does any one with a k8t master 2 could you recommend any better cpu fans for the motherboard i don't really like the ones that came with it

Some help needed(master question)

So I started working for this company, and I`m making them a catalogue, well more changing and updating the last years one. I`m having a bit of truble, since this is not my design, and I don`t know exactly how it was done before. I will probably have more questions during the process of finishing this thing, but the main problem now is that the master on the first two inner pages is...unlocked. Whenever I try to grab itmes on the page I grab the background(master) as well. It does not do this on any other of the 180 pages. What to do?

You could also select the item, then from the Pages panel menu select "remove selected overrides" and see if the appearance changes. There could have been a reason for overriding on that page.

Customer master - questions on pricing

Within the customer master's "Sales Area Data", under the "Sales" tab, there is this "Price List" under the "Pricing/Statistics" section.
Questions.
1. How is this price list used for this customer?
2. How do we create a new price list so that it can be listed here?
3. Where/what transaction codes can we use to see the existing price list being maintained?

1. you can define price list types by customer groups (wholesale, retail, and so on) and by currency (price lists for each foreign country you deal with).
2. You can define price list categories in IMG-BF-Pricing-Maintain price relevant master data fields-Define price list categories for customers.
Once you define here, you can assign to a customer.
3. You can display/change/create price lists in transaction VK31 and from prices group select price list.
