K8T Neo Fir won't post after live update to 2.0 bios

After running the Live Update which updated the bios to 2.0, I can't boot into XP (SP 1).  I can boot in safe mode.  Not sure how to get this running again.  I've tried everything I can think of, any ideas on what I might try?
Setup was running fine prior to bios update.
XP SP 1
K8T Neo Fir
1 GB
Promise Sata Raid 1 - 2 80GB Sata drives
Radeon 9600

I tried executing "fixboot" from the recovery console but this may have made things worse.  After running this successfully, the console reported that it had written a new boot vloc on teh C partition in FAT32.  The SATA drives are not formatted in FAT32!  Now I don't get the Windows initial screen at all, it just goes back to the bios and restarts.  I can still startup in safe mode though.
Maybe the Recovery Console can't see the drives properly because the Promise drivers are not loaded?  Any ideas?  I'm in deep now!

    Hello friends,

    Mitsumi 3.5"
    buncha Antec fans.
So I got my new baby all put together and took a deep breath and started it up.
All the fans came on, hdds making hdd type noises, CPU fan a-spinning.
Nothing happens. Doesn't post. No video at all. The MSI usb/diagnostics dongle has all 4 LEDs shining, and supposedly that means the CPU is damged or not seated right.
    Poop.
So I take it down, pull of the heatsink and look at the CPU. Looks good. Just to be sure I take it out, look for dust or damage or any abnormalities. Nothing. No physical defects on the CPU pins or the socket. Alright. I carefully put the CPU back, put the heatsink back on (Am I the only one who loves how the heatsink attaches? Bravo AMD!) and.....the same thing happens. I sigh loudly and commence with the near hysterical swearing. Girlfriend announces she HATES it when I build a new PC.
Tried all sorts of other premutations, one stick of ram, unplugging all periphs in different combos, pressing the power button while petting a monkey and eating fire. You name it, I've done it. Does anyone else abuse couch pillows?
You gotta let it out man.
I've probably inserted a few hundred CPUs into ZIF sockets over the years, so I'm 100% certain I didn't muss it up.
So before I RMA these little sweethearts (both the mb and cpu, because how can one tell if it's the socket or cpu?) has anyone else been down this road and want to give me the magic cure? Or maybe just a hug?
Much Thanks to you. Have a good weekend.

    Hello Friends,
The Hynix dimms in several arrangements, no go.
I also, uh, borrowed some infineon from work. Tried in several configs, no go.
    Samsung no go.
    Enter: Despair.
As I sat and stared at the machine in sort of a "I just spent a lot of money and what do I have?" sort of way, mine eyes did fall upon the gleaming brand new Antec "TruePower" psu.
Mind you, I had a perfectly acceptable 450 watt. No problems at all with it. It was generic and cost 30 dollars. But in the quest for stability, nay, in the quest for the very computer bliss we all aspire to, I laid out my coinage for the Antec fancy schmancy model. I thought, "Time to go with a real name, a real psu." .
And here's where the story ends. I swapped out the psu, thinking at this point I was sort grasping at straws, and wham bam thank you ma'am, here I am sitting by my gleaming tiny god, my humming MSI K8T, all is forgiven.
Thanks for the help all. The corsairs all seem to to do their job. Antec apparently does not test their rather expensive "TruePower" psu.
Ironically, the brand of the no namish psu appears to be "Works", emblazoned proudly on it's side.
So if you think ram is ruining your life, stick a piece of crap psu in that rig and see.
There's only one thing left to say.
    w00t!

  • New K8T Neo FIS2R won't post

I have looked at all the other threads in this forum, but can't find the solution.
    Specs:
    New K8T Neo FIS2R
    New A64 3000+
New Mushkin 3500 Level One (Cas 2) 2x512MB
    New Antec 550 (24A on the 12V)
    ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
When I give it power, all the fans come on, the 4 LEDs on the bracket stay lit up, and then don't change, but I get no video or any other indications (such as beeps).  The 4-Pin power connector, is securely connected in the proper location.  The standard ATX connector is also secure.  I'd link to a picture to prove it, but my camera is charging right now.
Currently I have only power wires, power switch, system speaker, video card, and 1 stick of RAM in the first slot.  I have tried it without the video card, without RAM, with RAM in different slots, just about any combination I can think of.  I have even cleared the CMOS a few times.  Nothing changes, I always get stuck with the 4 LEDs.  I don't have anything connected to the USB headers either (that was mentioned in another post).
I know some people have mentioned that the Antec 550's 24A on the 12V isn't great, but it should be more than enough amps, the way my system is setup right now.

    Hi
It does not sound like a major prob,  it sounds like a PSU or memory problem, anyway of checking MOBO with another PSU with at least 20A on the 12v. Also check the memory sticky at top of the posts and see if your OK memory wise, another possibility is that one of the mounting screws is tracking from the board - try removing screws and see if it boots, also check none of the cables are touching the case or MOBO.
MOBO and CPU seem fairly resilent, so faulty parts are not to likely, although one never knows.  Another thought the Jbat1 Cmos jumper is on pins 1 & 2, 1 is marked on board, and you could try clearing CMOS. a corrupted bios could also cause this.
Best of luck, lets know how you go
    Jocko
PS.  looking at the stickys at top, Bas has put one there about a compitition by MSI, one of the questions is about Radeons needing extra power( has an April 1st entry date!!), it is worth checking, does your Radeon have its own supply, you could always remove it and see if it boots.
    Cheers

  • Cannot Post After Live Update of BIOS

System: MSI K8NGM2-FID, 4 gig Corsair, AMD 4400 X2, EVGA 7800GT, 4 Seagate 160 SATA II drives in RAID 0, HP 740vi, Sony floppy, CoolerMaster 810 Stacker case, PS Power & Cooling Turbo 510/SLI.
I just assembled the system. It POSTed fine. I installed Windows XP (SP 2), NAV 2006, Linksys USB network card, MSI LiveUpdate. I updated the BIOS 3.0 to 3.1 using Windows through the Live Update and making a rescue disk. Nothing remarkable about the update. System will not POST i.e. nothing shows up on the screen although the lights on the Corsair memory go through the appropriate cycle and the keyboard lights shine as usual. Attempted to restore from rescue—can get the disk read using control home: still no POST. Same result after using the BIOS reset switch on the board.
I get no automated to my message to MSI online tech support.
    What can I do?

try shutting off, disconnecting the power cord, removing the CMOS battery, tap the power button a few times to discharge any residual power, then leave the battery out for a couple of minutes, before refitting it, then reconnect the power cable, power back on, enter BIOS setup and re-enter BIOS settings

  • Z77a-g45 wont post after live update

Maybe someone could help me? I have been using this z771-g45 board for 5 months without problem, rock solid all the time. Except 4 days ago i used MSI's Live Update to update everything and after it rebooted it went into a constant restart cycle (on for 10 seconds the off) with no video, no access to anything. It had no post beeps. I let it continue for 10 minutes before I shut off the power. I have tried removing everything but the video and power to the board but still just loops. Any thoughts?

If the board is new, contact the reseller else contact MSI for rma:>>How to contact MSI.<<
If out of warrantly, you can also use a computer shop with spi programmer to get it fixed.

  • Another K8T Neo that won't post . . .

I'm having the same problem about my system not going through POST.  D-bracket shows 4 red (CPU damaged or installed improperly).  I've read all the previous threads dealing with this issue, but the distinguishing fact in my case is that the system has been running fine for four months.  What started to happen is that the system would lose video unpredictably, though the power to the system remained on (could hear fans and, I thought, HDs).  And now it won't boot.
Despite having the system work fine, I do have a couple of suspect components.  My PSU is an Antec True 380, which puts out a maximum of 18A on the 12V line.  I understand that this may not be enough.
The other x-factor is my memory.  It was, at the time, on the list recommended by MSI: 2x 512MB Kingston DDR PC3200.
Anybody have any insight, given the machine's history of working fine?
    Thanks for your help.
    Steve

I now have two machines with a similar problem.
Symptoms are - machine hung after hardware install (windows had booted and was installing the driver). Hit the reset button. Machine cycles but then no POST, no video, (no anything much).
    D-leds indicates Video/Video Memory/Memory problem.
RAM and Graphics worked fine in other machine.
One was a brand new M/B,CPU,RAM, PSU
other was running fine for 12months until I decided to add a network card.
I consider it highly unlikely that I've blown the PSU on two cases - alas they're both the same model as I liked it so much I bought another.
This seems to be a common problem.
Would be delighted to find a definative answer !!!!
p.s new M/B,CPU and RAM have been returned under warranty
p.p.s not a K8T. in fact two different model M/B

  • Neo Platinum won't post after BIOS change...

I changed a few BIOS settings in my machine.  Everything was working fine before; all I switched (to my recollection) was changing the boot order and also switching from Manual to Automatic for High Performance Timings (named something like that).
After doing this, the machine won't even POST; I get a ~2 second long beep shortly after turning the machine on, and this beep repeats with a ~2 second pause between each beep.
    I have tried:
    - taking out the memory in bank 2
    - taking out both DIMMs
    - doing the JBAT1 CMOS reset (pins 1-2 going to 2-3)
    - doing the 'remove the battery' CMOS reset
    - doing both the JBAT1 and battery reset approaches, leaving it in 2-3 and battery out all last night
After all of these, there was no change -- I still get the beeps.
D-Bracket seems to have the bottom left light red, and the rest green, if I recall.
    Any guesses?  Thanks.

Ah, to clarify -- I looked at the Basic Troubleshooting Guide for the exact description of what the D-Bracket is showing. It looks to be "Initializing Keyboard Controller".
Maybe someone else knows -- in the list of all of the D-Bracket codes -- which are meant to be green and which are meant to be red? (As the page has white and black..so I'm trying to confirm that I'm right in mapping correctly between white/black and red/green; if my mapping is backwards, then it really means "Assign Resources to all ISA").
As for possible memory issues -- if I hadn't changed anything in the BIOS other than memory timings -- wouldn't resetting the CMOS have gone back to default timings (which were working a-ok until I made that BIOS change).  (Plus, I don't have any other RAM, so I'm looking for other things to also try

  • Msi k8t neo fsr won't post

OK...I put the system in my sig together and turned on the machine. Went straight into the bios to tweak stuff like I wanted to. 1st off, my cd burner and my hdd were not detected. I made a mental note of that and kept on browsing through. I was at the screen that gives the current temperature (which was hovering from 34C-35C) and then outta no where the thing dies. Now, the power led on the front of the case flashes long slow flashes. I turned the psu off, then turned it on and tried to boot. I can hear a faint whine as the hdd led comes on, then it goes silent and the green power led starts flashing again. I disconnected my two case fans and front case leds (not the power and hdd leds) and tried it again thinking it was the psu. Same thing as before.  I moved cmos jumper to clear for ten minutes and then moved it back. I tried to start it back up, the fan on the processor spun for about a second, heard the faint beep, then nothing w/ the power led doing the slow contunuous flashing thing. Anyone know what's going on?

I took the ram out, cleared CMOS for about 40 minutes, put CMOS jumper back, and then put the ram back.  I turned the comp on and actually got some signal to the monitor b/c it temporarily turned on for about 3 seconds(though no picture came up), then it turned off and the flashing power led began.  Sounds like the ram may indeed be the prime suspect.  BTW, do any of you have a stick of ram I could borrow (lol)?  I called two computer stores and asked if they could put a stick of ram they had laying around and see if it posted.  One of them asked if I was going to buy their ram if it worked and I said no, b/c I would just RMA the ram I already bought.   They said it would cost about $15.  I called one more store and they said it would $45!  WTC, I can buy my own stick at newegg for $24!

Any final thoughts b4 I package this stuff up?  I'm now contemplating sending the processor, ram, and mobo back.

  • MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R won't power-up

My MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R won't power up when I switch it on. All that happens is the fans "jolt" a few millimeters and that's it
Using an X-Pro 460w which does work as I have tested it on this PC
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I think I have found out the problem
Using my old Enermax (350) I was able to boot up the AMD 64 2800 every time but the PSU made this weird electrical sound - I think because it was being overloaded (I think as it doesn't make this sound when used with my XP 1800). I then reverted back to my new X-Pro (460w) and after a few attempts I managed to get the ram module and CPU powered... slowly adding more fans it became harder to boot and eventually the GPU fan wouldn't run once I plugged another fan in... I'm guessing this is because my PSU is too weak to power the juice guzzling AMD
I'll need to break the bank once again I suppose

  • K7N2GM-V won't POST after shut down

    Hi all.
I just did my first build on a K7N2GM-V and it won't POST after I shut down. When I hit the power button, PSU does not turn on, fans do not turn on, nothing happens. If I wait about 10-15 minutes, then it will POST and boot normally to my XP Pro SP1. Nobody seems to have had this problem and I am stumped.
Could it be due to my power supply? My PSU is the one that came with the X-QPack, which claims +3.3V(18A), +5V(22A), +12V(20A), -5V(0.3A), -12V(0.8A), +5VSB(2.0A). I don't have a spare PSU to test this with.
Any ideas? Please let me know what additional information might be needed.
    Thanks.

Using PC Alert 4, I saw 39C idle. I haven't stressed the CPU yet.

macbook pro won't boot after installing update 10.9.3

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

I have already updated to OS X Yosmite two times as directed by apple, I have rebooted in safe made as well as Command/Option/P/R before start up. Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities
If you head into your applications folder and locate iTunes. Right click iTunes and show package contents. In there there will be a contents folder --> MacOS --> double click on the iTunes terminal icon. This should force iTunes to open via a terminal window and at the very least it will tell you what it is getting stuck on.
