K8t neo fis2r - core center not functional after installing sound card

Hi.  I had been using Core Center with Dynamic Overclocking enabled and all was well.  When idle, my amd64 3000+ (2.0ghz), was running at 800mhz.  Under load it would go up to 2100mhz.  But yesterday, I installed an Auzentech x-plosion sound card and after i installed the driver, the dynamic overclocking stopped working, my cpu is running at max all the time.  (The variable fan speed function still works).
I checked the IRQ and there is no conflict, I uninstalled the amd64 driver and core center and reinstalled.  Still does not work.  I uninstalled the auzentech driver, rebooted, and cancelled new hardware wizard.  Then the variable cpu frequency feature worked.  Once I install the driver for the auzentech, dynamic oc stops working.  I was thinking to try another pci slot but it appears to be a software issue rather than a hardware issue.  The new version of Core Center does not work with my board even though msi says it's compatible so I'm still using the one that always worked.  The amd driver is the latest and also always worked.
Has anyone else had a similar problem, perhaps using the auzentech sound card with this board and Core Center?  Or does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

Hey guys, I just went to AMDs site to get the dashboard utility mentioned and in the readme, it stated that in XP, the power option needs to be set to portable/laptop.  But in the past, I read that it needed to be set to "always on" and that it is, in fact, what I had it set to before when cool n quiet was working.  Now I change it to "portable/laptop" and it works and set to "always on" doesn't work anymore.  So now Core Center reports I'm at 33c @800mhz at no load.   I don't get it???  I'll have to try an alternate utility just to verify that is indeed working.
btw, QV, I checked system properties, (right-click my computer > properties, or "system" in control panel) and on the "general" tab, it indicates an AMD64 3000+, 2.0GHz.  But I'm pretty certain the clock frequency is dropping now as reported by core center because of the decrease in the cpu temp at idle.  Am I looking in the right place in XP?  I have XP pro, SP2
Again, thanks for the input and Happy New Year

  • K8T Neo FIS2R AMIBOOT.ROM not working

    Hi
Had a game crash on my system, and froze everything, so had to restart manualy - now I get the error BIOS is not installed..
I have downloaded a copy of the bios (not latest) and changed the relevant ROM file to AMIBOOT.ROM and copied to a freshly formated floppy.
I inserted the disk, held down CTRL and HOME and started the computer...
After a while of running through the messages of BIOS not installed and no SATA installed (which is correct), the floppy drive light comes on, and then after a while (afet I have released the CTRL and HOME keys) I get a message saying "Remove disks or other media, Press any key to restart" then nothing, if I press any key - it says the same thing untill I remove the floppy... and then it restarts again.
I have tried to restart using the floppy and the CTRL and HOME keys about 20 times so far - always the same result - I have even tried diferent versions of the BIOS.
    Any ideas?
I only have one stick of RAM (256Kb - 333) and two IDE HD's
    Many thanks in advance

My Set up is as follows (from the top of my head as I am doing this form work)
    K8T Neo FIS2R.
    AMD 3300 745pin chip set.
1 stick of 512Mb ram (non branded - baught from Watford Electronics)
    2 x 200Gb Maxtor HD's
    1 40GB Seagate HD
    1 DVD RW
    Power 500W
Dont know what else you need...
Anyway - last night I reset the CMOS in the way you described.
Still cant find the VIA settings in the Advanced Chipset or elsewhare - but I will. urned of SATA in Intergrated Peripherals...
Anyway - what then happens, is it says it cannot boot.
I tried using a Win98 SE boot disk - and all the  drivers were listed as not possible to load  or something...
Any way - deciding I did not have anotehr boot disk to hand - tried Symantec Ghost - still same result.
Finaly I tried WinXP Pro, and found that this installed all the bootup files no problem at all - what was then found was that my C: partition was missing - yup boot sector had completely disapeared.
Anyway knowing that I have recent full backups og my primary drives using Ghost, I took the plunge, created a partition in the unalocated space, reformated the drive, and reinstalled WinXP... all seems ok for now... except the message regarding no BIOS - but from what you say as soon as I fing the switch I will loose that again.
The strange thing is I never used to get this message before, and do not remember setting anything up for SATA - couldnt afford the disks at the time....
Thanks for the help Hans, you have been more than gwenerouse with your time  , but can you please give me some more information? (Im a bit of a Nooby at playing with BIOS etc as they scare the crap out of me! )
    1) Why is the detail of my system so important? I have made no Hardware changes for approx 6 months and everything was fine untill the game crashed, so therefore, dont see why this should affect things.
    2) Why did the flashing of the BIOS not work? I was following the instructions carefully - but nothing.. therefore in my Nooby mind this means there is something else wrong, stopping the flashing from working.
    Again - many thanks

  • "Finder" does not function after installing Leopard on Mac G5

After successfully installing Leopard on my (new) MacBook Pro and on my (old:2003) iMac PowerMac 6,1 I tried installing Leopard on my 2005 iMac G5.
The installation seemed successful, but after restarting the computer I was asked to choose the wireless network from a list. This was not possible. I do not use the Airport on this computer so tried to press "cancel". Could not do this and got the turning rainbow circle which never stopped.
*The Finder does not function and cannot be restarted. This seems to be the main problem.
I cannot log off or shut down and have to use the powerbutton to shut down.
When starting up I do not get the Startup sound. Do get login and can login. But, all my desktop buttons have disappeared and I immediately get a notice that OS X shut down unexpectedly, asking me to cancel or send a report. Neither of these options are possible and the turning rainbow reappears. It's driving me crazy!
I can sometimes open programs but no longer "system preferences".
Is there anybody out there who can help me??
I am especially frustrated since the other two installations on an older and on a newer Mac went well. I use the exact same programs on all three computers.

  • Microphone does not function after installing Windows 7 RC on a HP Mini 1000 (1030NR)

Hi. I recently purchased a HP Mini 1000 (1030NR) and upgraded it to Windows 7 Release Canidate. After install, I added the trackpad drivers, and everything else works fine except for the microphone. The computer recognizes it but when I speak nothing happens. The volume is turned up, and if I turn up the Mic Boost, all I hear is static. I have installed what I think are the correct drivers from another poster, to no avail. Also, there are no errors in the device manager. ANy ideas?
    Thank you in advance.

As a tempory measure search for SP40662 this package will enable the mic but there is a catch (isnt there always). The catch is that the mic is going to be recognized as the external one and if you plug in headphones you will have to reboot the mini to use the internal mic again. Im using the same set up right now and it works fairly well. Just hope that HP decides to bestow upon us the proper drivers for the mini soon.

  • K8T NEO-FIS2R & SATA DVD not working

I've been trying to get a plextor SATA drive working with 3 other SATA hard drives, 2 of which will be in RAID. Problem is I can't get the DVD drive to be detected at all by the onboard promise controller and the VIA 8237 controller seems to be stuck in RAID mode so it also refuses to run the drive. I've tried updating the BIOS to 2.0 in hopes that it updated the controller BIOS.
Has anyone been able to get SATA DVD and hard drives up using only the onboard controller?

  • Logo graphics not functional after installing LR5 Update today.

My logo function is not working for any of my graphics, only Logos using the normal text function is working.  Needed to post to my Blog today and this is a serious glitch!  Anyone having this problem also?

Paul, thanks for your  suggestions.  Regrettably, none of these procedures helped my problem. Interestingly I just installed the same update on my 3 year old iMac and that same screen came on and remained for an unusual amount of time.  It took an excessive amount of time to finally come back with running apps in place.  A recent update on my MacBook Air went on briskly.  I'm not sure what any of that means but there it is.  By the way - I let the old iMac run with that startup screen for over an hour thinking it may just be old and needs more time.  Being older myself, I felt it couldn't hurt.
Thanks.  I am not sure what the Genius Bar can do but it seems that is my next move unless someone comes up with a magic bullet out here.

  • 6600GT not working with K8T neo-FIS2R

I recently returned a K8T NEO-FIS2R MB for repair. The problem was that the PS/2 and USB ports were broken. However the MB has been returned and the PS/2 and USB ports work fine. I posted about this several months ago.
Now the AGP port seems to be broken (not the actual slot). I have tried a 6800 Ultra and a 6600 GT (AGP version) GFX card in this slot. Both cards fail at the driver installation point. I have tried driver versions 66.93, 67.02 and 67.03. I also tried 3 versions of the via drivers 451, 453 and 455. Even tried XP with SP1 and SP2. The PC will sometimes BSOD, reset, won't boot into windows. The drivers sometimes install then other times they won't, etc. The problems only seem to be with the drivers for the GFX cards.
The 6600 GT works as I have tried it in another MB without any problems.
I know the memory works fine as I used memtest86+ for a couple of hours on the default settings without any errors and it works in another PC.
The spec of the PC is:
    XP pro
    K8T NEO-FIS2R MB
    512MB corsair XMS at 2.5-3-7-3
    XFX 6600GT
    40gig HDD
    FDD
    Plextor CD writer
    DVD Rom
    PSU is a Q-tec 550W
I know Q-tec PSUs are not up to much from what I have read elsewhere in this forum, but I have had it running in a similar system with the 6800 Ultra installed without any trouble (even with the above MB before it went faulty). I have also tried a 400W PSU, that came with the case. The Voltages on the 12V line are between 12.00 and 12.03 when using the Q-tec PSU.
Has any body else had these problems with the 6600GT in the mentioned MB.
Also, how can I check the serial number on the MB with the label on the box, as this MB that was returned to me looks to “clean” to be the one I sent away for repair.
    Thanks for any help

Hey, I'm glad to see a post on the new Gforce 6600GT AGP card.  I just recently put together a brand new system (see my sig for specs).  System runs great.  The only thing I wanted to do was replace the video card, and after a great deal of anxiety I decided the Geforce 6600GT AGP was the best bang for the buck.
Well I got home, installed the card and never get passed the bios screen.  (shows your processor, memory, memory siz), the screen u hit DEL to go into the bios.
The system doens't lock up, NUM LOCK can still be turned on and off, and CAPS can be turned of and on... but thats it.  Just sits on that screen.  I can't go into the bios either.
what settings do I need to do prior to isntalling this card to get it to work.
Let me know if you all need anymore details to help me out.
oh, I did reset my frequency to 10x200 (which is what I think the 3000+ is supposed to be at).

  • Problem after CMOS reset K8T NEO FIS2R

    Hi,
After messing around with my memory timings, I could no longer boot my system, so I decided to reset my CMOS using the jumper.  After doing so, my system gets stuck at the SATA drives not detected BIOS not installed screen, and I can no longer access the BIOS.  I'm fairly sure that the BIOS not installed message is in reerence to the SATA controller and not the main BIOS itself.  I have tried reseting the BIOS a couple of more times with no different results.  My D-Bracket reads red LED in location 1, green LEDS in 2, 3 and 4.
    System:
    Athlon 64 3000+
    K8T NEO FIS2R
    Radeon 9700 pro
    Audigy 2 ZS
    400W PSU
    Any ideas would be welcome.
    Thanks

    Hi
Try removing the Ram sticks when resetting Bios, remeber to earth yourself first, also remove power cable, and leave for a couple of minse, to allow all chips to discharge, then replace mem sticks, the cmos jumper and the power cable. Try to get into bios at start to reset the timings you have changed.  If still having a prob, use Ctrl + Home as you boot, holding them down will initialise the bios. You will have to reset the bios settings.
Failing that you will need to use a recovery floppy.
    Good luck

  • K8T Neo FIS2R not getting through POST

I hope some of you might be able to help me.  I just finished building a new system using the K8T Neo FIS2R motherboard.  I actually had everything working with XP installed, but this morning, I have not booted once.  It's not clearing POST anymore.
I get a long beep followed by 8 short beeps.  According to the BIOS beep codes I've seen in other posts, that has something to do with the BIOS checksum error.  I did upgrade the BIOS to 1.7 from an MSI Live Update download.
I'm basically stuck, is the mobo dead?

This does not bode well for my current situation, or yours.  I have to believe that there are many people out there that have a successful 1.7 BIOS running.
But I'm beginning to lead in this direction now, especially since your description is close to mine.  I was able to run in v1.7 for a short time, then it just died.
Also, I don't know if this helps, but after my beep codes, I assume the POST continues, because about 15 seconds later there is 2 short beep following by 1 long beep and the D-bracket is has green all around minus number 4 which is read.  Assume blue=green here :
This is "Testing RTC (Real Time Clock)".  At this stage it just stops.
I am assuming that I can flash my BIOS using the cntrl-home method, however, if that fails, are we looking at RMA here...   And if so, what are peoples experiences with RMA'ing with an online dealer?  How much proof will I need to go through?
Also, by the way, these forums are awesome... The data here has been great.  It's nice to see such a great forum that has valuable information.
Thanks to everyone for the help so far.

  • K8t Neo-fis2r - not booting!!!

Hello Motherboard gurus!  Any help would be appreciated...
    Here are my system specs:
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+
    Motherboard /AMD Socket 754 CPU’/ "K8T NEO-FIS2R"
    RAM - Kingston 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 X2
    Hard Drive – 120GB – Maxtor 120GB 6Y120PO
TEAC 1.44MB 3.5 Black Floppy Disk Drive
ThermalTake Silent PurPower 360WATX Power Supply
    Lite-on DVDR – Model LDW/811S/851s BLK
    ATI AIW RADEON 9600 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, CATV/Video Out/Video In, 8X AGP, Model "ALL-IN-WONDER 9600"
Everything was working just fine until I switched out my CPU fan for a super quiet Zalman fan.  I hit the power and nothing, but the fan spins up just fine.  No video.  The LED's on the back cycle through a couple of settings and sit at all green except for the upper left at red.  I am at a loss ...perhaps the video card?  I tried replacing the original fan and got the same result
Thanks in advance for any help,
    JD

Your power is weak for sure. However you may also be seeing a fan that runs to slow for the motherboard to read. If the speed drops below what the MB expects it will cause issues as it thinks the CPU fan is dead and may not want to operate at all. Check that by reinstalling your old fan. Also on the power issue what is the 12v rail amps on that PSU?

  • K8T Neo FIS2R (MS6702) cool n quiet problem

Hi.  I have an AMD64 3000 cpu installed.  The cool n quiet variable frequency is not functioning anymore.  Core Center reports it at 2000mhz all the time.  As a result, it is running hotter than normal and is not as quiet.  I tried the latest bios (ami v2.2), the latest amd64 driver and the latest core center.  The system did not like the newest amd64 driver (shutdown just as windows finished loading) so I went back to the previous versions of everything.  It did work at one time but something must have changed.
    System Specs:
    K8T Neo FIS2R (MS-6702)
    AMD64 3000 socket 754 (clawhammer or newcastle I think)
    chipset K8T800
    bios AMI v1.9
    amd64 driver v1.2.2
    Core Center v1.5.5.0
cool n quiet enabled in bios setup
    dynamic overclocking disabled
    Thanks for any input
    Pete

Ok, this is nuts.  I think its time to clear the cmos.  I'm now using speedfan and even with the max speed setting for the cpu fan at 1% (one percent), the cpu fan runs at around 3800.  Then it drops to zero when the set cpu temp is reached (40c).  There's no in between.  When I start the system, its max'd at around 4400.  I pulled the fan and heatsink to clean them last weekend and it seems that's when all this started.  Perhaps something went awry when I disconnected and reconnected the fan to the board.  The bios version, the amd driver, and the core center version are now all the same as before I pulled the fan.  I'm clearing the cmos.

  • K8t neo fis2r- CMOS settings are wrong!

First I would like to thank all of you for taking the time to help me resolve my problem.  My current system specs are as follows:
    MSI k8t neo fis2r mobo
    AMD athlon 64 3200+ (clawhammer I believe)
2x 512 MB Corsair Xtreme XMS Memory
    Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb
    80gb Samsung HDD
    600W Xconnect PSU
After having problems with my computer not loading windows I downgraded my bios from v 2.2 to 1.9 because I heard that versions higher than 1.9 may have problems with my older clawhammer cpu core.  The bios flash worked in that I can now start up my computer if I reset CMOS and load default settings.  However when I load my computer this way my Core Center is displaying my Vcore at around 1.1v.  3.3v is at around 3.41, 5v is at around 5.1, 12v is at around 12.1v.  In the past I needed to manually set my Vcore under bios at 1.4v or 1.5v to get it to start, and when I started it that way Core Center correctly displayed the 1.4 or 1.5vcore and stated that my computer was running at 2000Mhz.  Now my computer is running at 1.1vcore and 800 MHz.  If I clear cmos and enter setup to try to change my vcore to 1.4 my computer will hang after the save and exit just as if I had restart my computer without clearing the CMOS.  I have tried changing the mobo battery, which did not do anything.  Its odd, if I choose to load default settings and continue, my computer will start up and is entirely stable.  If I choose to enter setup however and choose to load default settings and then save and exit, my computer will hang just as if I did not reset CMOS to begin with.
I really do not know what to do here.  I was thinking about trying something like this http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalCPUID/index-e.html to up my vcore after I get my computer started so that I can play my games without the low fps I am currently getting.  I know this fix would not get my computer to start up without resetting CMOS, but would it work as a temporary solution?
Does anyone have any ideas for what is wrong?  Thanks again in advance.

    Thats bad news for me!
Anyway, I found a program called RightMark CPU clock Utility that has enabled me to get my 2000 MHz out of my cpu by setting FID to 10.0x and VID to 1.550v
With these settings Rightmark is reporting an idle cpu temp of around 31 C, but when I get in a game like world of warcraft the temp will go all the way up to around 90 C, which I feel is incorrect.  Ive had my computer become very unstable in the past when the temp got near 65-70C.  It seems to be perfectly stable at the moment, even under the high loads of world of warcraft.  Do you have any thoughts on this?

  • High frequency sound with K8T Neo-FIS2R

    Hello!
I have the MSI k8t neo-fis2r mainboard with bios v 1.6 and sometimes it makes a horrible high frequency sound and I cant figure out why.
    My system are:
    amd 64 3000 cpu and
    Corsair Value S PC3200 DDR-DIMM 512MB Unbuffered, Non-parity, 64Megx64, CL2.5
My other components does not cause the sound (that I have found out by testing).
I wonder if the ram causes the sound? Can you please help me. The sound is so bad that I cant use my computer. It only appers during heavy system load, and not in windows. It has nothing to do with my video card (because I have tried with several different cards). My bios settings are default values + cool and quit enabled. I have the core center installed so the progam controls the cpu fan.
I really hope someone can help me.

The sound does not come from the speaker and I dont think it comes fom the cpu fan either. I think it comes from the motherboard, ram or the cpu. When I dont use my mouse it is quit but when I clik it makes this sound. Can it be that I have to set all values in bios for ram etc. manually instead of automatic?
When it comes to other electrical sources I have a TV standing 0.5 meter from the computer. Could thins cause the problem? I did not have the problem with my old motherboard which was a MSI K7T Turbo2.
The sound usually appers when I am benchamarking my system. For example 3dmark 2004. Because of this I thougt there was a problem wiht my vga card but after a changed to a new one...the situation was just the same.

  • K8T Neo-FIS2R with Athlon 64 4000+ mobile CPU

Doing some research on the net, I found out recently that the older mobile CPUs differ from desktop ones just by the lack of a heat spreader on top of the core. And I read up about many successful updates from ppl using the mobile CPU on the desktop socket 754 boards. This is for my 2nd system listed in my sig below - the  K8T Neo-FIS2R. I found a pretty good deal on the Newark CPU AMN4000BKX5BU recently (4000+). I took my existing 3000+ CPU out and I separated the heat-spreader from it. Underneath it's almost identical, except the core is a few mm larger than the mobile CPU. I mounted the heat spreader on the 4000+ CPU and made sure the core has good contact with the heat-spreader (checked the thermal paste imprint). Mounted the CPU in and the board powers on but doesn't POST. I then put my 3000+ in and works just fine. I repeated this 3 times, and just couldn't get the 4000+ to be recognized by the mobo. I thought the CPU may be bad, but it comes from a good source, so even though it's still a possibility, I started doing more research. And then I realized that I forgot to change the core voltage in BIOS from 1.5 to AUTO. The mobile CPU is rated for 1.35v. Do you think this is what affected it? Or is it because I'm on BIOS v.1.9 ? Latest BIOS is 7.1, but all versions passed 1.9 only introduced compatibility with Sempron CPUs (which I'm not using) and it limited DDR recognition to 333 only. I'm using DDR400 which is running well at 200MHz. All higher BIOS levels don't allow to run it in stock speed at higher than 166MHz. So that's why I wanted to keep the v.1.9.
Any ideas why the 4000+ CPU wouldn't be recognized by this board?
    Thanks in advance!

I'm making some headway, but in effect, I temporarily hindered this system more than it was I got the CPU to finally work, but it only recognizes 1/4 of the memory I used to have... here are the details:
I upgraded BIOS to the latest 7.1 and the installed 4000+ CPU didn't allow the system to POST neither. I then cleared the CMOS and just for good measure removed 1 of my memory sticks (I had 2x1GB, as listed in my sig for the lower system). Then the old faithful came to life again After making more test I noticed that no matter what I do, whether I use DDR400 or DDR333 sticks (I also have those in 2x1GB), the only way it works is with a single stick in DIMM1. In manual, the configurations show that that memory can be inserted in different DIMM sockets, not necessarily the 1st one, but in my case, no other setup works than a single stick in DIMM1. As I mentioned earlier, BIOS versions above 1.9 (I checked them all in the past) don't allow DDR400 to run at 200MHz, but only at 166. Also, ver.7.1 reports CPU temperature incorrectly, about 10 degrees Celcius lower than it actually is. I actually noticed that in the past with my other CPU, too. Since nothing else could be accomplished here, I decided to go back to BIOS v.1.9. But the situation relating to RAM didn't change. It still only functions fine with a single stick in DIMM1.
I also tried resetting CMOS several times at different occasions, and when reset in ver.7.1 it would POST with 2 sticks of RAM in, but after loading BIOS settings, it would work fine (only as far as POSTs, because I never booted to OS during these tests) and would restart fine as long as it wasn't completely shut down. Once it was shut down, it wouldn't POST again.
In ver.7.1, the CPU was recognized by BIOS correctly as 4000+, however back at ver.1.9 BIOS recognizes it as 4200+ (something that doesn't exist for socket 754, AFAIK). However, the DDR400 is again working at 200MHz and the CPU core temp is reported correctly.
In ver.1.9 the CPU voltage when set to AUTO would run at about 0.9v, which might've been causing no POSTs until CMOS was reset. I manually lowered it to the minimal setting possible of 1.4v. It is rated at 1.35v and now is reported to run at 1.38v and still much cooler than my older desktop CPU 3000+. From what I read, AMD was doing binning on the mobile athlons, so I'm sure all of them can work fine even at 1.5v or higher, if needed.
Anyway, I temporarily gave up and decided to wait for some golden thoughts from you guys (or MSI Support, whom I also contacted about this, but it'll be a miracle if they respond with some help). Then I booted up into Windows, and even though CPU-Z recognizes the single stick of 1GB RAM I left there, Windows only reports it as 512MB. Also, CPU-Z reports the CPU in one spot as 4000+ and then in another (a little below) as 4200+. I guess the multiplier of x13 causes the confusion? Could that also be the reason for not recognizing more memory? I also tried lowering the HT Link in BIOS to 200 and 600MHz and that didn't help as far as allowing to use the 2nd stick of RAM. Please check the below screenshots for more details.
    Thanks
