K8T NEO-FIS2R RTL will not work Corsair 3700 2x512 or Geil pc4000 2x256

my corsair 2x512 pc3700 twinx will not work even with setting timings manually nor with the New Geil pc4000 (2.5,7,4,4) 4x256 all 6 modules are known good and tested on NF2 and Canterwood rigs.
ANy ideas on when a bios update to fix this might occur?
im stuck using 2x256 Hyperx pc4000
or even worse some old Hynix ram

The first AMD test setup
CPU : AMD Athlon64 2GHz – 200MHz FSB
MEMORY : OCZ PC3700 – 512MB
HDD : Western Digital 40GB
OS : Windows XP Professional
During the test I experienced, that the system was unable to boot up with Corsairs XMS3700 memory module. So I had to exchange it with an OCZ PC3700 memory module.

  • K8T Neo FIS2R AMIBOOT.ROM not working

    Hi
Had a game crash on my system, and froze everything, so had to restart manualy - now I get the error BIOS is not installed..
I have downloaded a copy of the bios (not latest) and changed the relevant ROM file to AMIBOOT.ROM and copied to a freshly formated floppy.
I inserted the disk, held down CTRL and HOME and started the computer...
After a while of running through the messages of BIOS not installed and no SATA installed (which is correct), the floppy drive light comes on, and then after a while (afet I have released the CTRL and HOME keys) I get a message saying "Remove disks or other media, Press any key to restart" then nothing, if I press any key - it says the same thing untill I remove the floppy... and then it restarts again.
I have tried to restart using the floppy and the CTRL and HOME keys about 20 times so far - always the same result - I have even tried diferent versions of the BIOS.
    Any ideas?
I only have one stick of RAM (256Kb - 333) and two IDE HD's
    Many thanks in advance
    GreenBoy

    Hans
My Set up is as follows (from the top of my head as I am doing this form work)
    K8T Neo FIS2R.
    AMD 3300 745pin chip set.
1 stick of 512Mb ram (non branded - baught from Watford Electronics)
    2 x 200Gb Maxtor HD's
    1 40GB Seagate HD
    1 DVD RW
    Power 500W
Dont know what else you need...
Anyway - last night I reset the CMOS in the way you described.
Still cant find the VIA settings in the Advanced Chipset or elsewhare - but I will. urned of SATA in Intergrated Peripherals...
Anyway - what then happens, is it says it cannot boot.
I tried using a Win98 SE boot disk - and all the  drivers were listed as not possible to load  or something...
Any way - deciding I did not have anotehr boot disk to hand - tried Symantec Ghost - still same result.
Finaly I tried WinXP Pro, and found that this installed all the bootup files no problem at all - what was then found was that my C: partition was missing - yup boot sector had completely disapeared.
Anyway knowing that I have recent full backups og my primary drives using Ghost, I took the plunge, created a partition in the unalocated space, reformated the drive, and reinstalled WinXP... all seems ok for now... except the message regarding no BIOS - but from what you say as soon as I fing the switch I will loose that again.
The strange thing is I never used to get this message before, and do not remember setting anything up for SATA - couldnt afford the disks at the time....
Thanks for the help Hans, you have been more than gwenerouse with your time  , but can you please give me some more information? (Im a bit of a Nooby at playing with BIOS etc as they scare the crap out of me! )
    1) Why is the detail of my system so important? I have made no Hardware changes for approx 6 months and everything was fine untill the game crashed, so therefore, dont see why this should affect things.
    2) Why did the flashing of the BIOS not work? I was following the instructions carefully - but nothing.. therefore in my Nooby mind this means there is something else wrong, stopping the flashing from working.
    Again - many thanks

  • K8T NEO-FIS2R & SATA DVD not working

I've been trying to get a plextor SATA drive working with 3 other SATA hard drives, 2 of which will be in RAID. Problem is I can't get the DVD drive to be detected at all by the onboard promise controller and the VIA 8237 controller seems to be stuck in RAID mode so it also refuses to run the drive. I've tried updating the BIOS to 2.0 in hopes that it updated the controller BIOS.
Has anyone been able to get SATA DVD and hard drives up using only the onboard controller?

  • [MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R] 2xCMX512-3200 DDR400 memories (corsair)

I have this motherboard:MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R (MS-6702) and currently i'm using a Kingston memory and the computer runs fine. But i've buyed TWINX1024-3200 (2xCMX512-3200 DDR400) but when I put only this memories the computer after some time or when booting restart suddenly...
Could it be about the bios version, my actual version is v1.0 and I'm using AMI BIOS.
    i've runned memtest+ and i get this: http://korpro.org/numb/PICT1348.JPG

I am in almost the exact same situation.
    MSI Neo-FIS2R
    AMD XP 2800+
    2 sticks of DDR400 Corsair XMS memory (CMX512-3200C2) 512mb each (total 1gig)
Any combination of memory together does not allow the motherboard to boot. I get no beeping or warning sounds. Everything powers up but the display remains blank.
Things I have tried in many different combinations:
    TRCD = 5, 4, 3, auto
    DDR Voltage = Auto, 2.7, 2.65
    DDR 200, DDR 300, DDR 333, Auto
    Memory in bank 1+2, 1+3, 2+3
Along with those bios setting combinations, I have tried using several bios versions:
    v2.2
    v2.0
    v1.9
    v1.8
v1.4 <--- (Stuck with this bios for the moment, since the ami flashing utility HANGS when attempting to erase the boot block in step 2 of flashing procedure for any newer bios.)
As a consequence of several days of trying unsuccessfully to get both sticks of memory to work, I have given up hope on this motherboard.
Why is it so difficult to get two sticks of memory working properly on this motherboard?
Has anyone got another trick or technique or setting I can try that may work?
    Alternatives:
Scrap the MSI motherboard -- never buy another piece of MSI crap again.
Buy a single stick of 1gig memory.
Buy a new motherboard from another manufacturer known to work properly -- at the very least not have these memory configuration issues.
Worst motherboard experience I have ever had, unfortunately.

  • K8t neo fis2r - core center not functional after installing sound card

Hi.  I had been using Core Center with Dynamic Overclocking enabled and all was well.  When idle, my amd64 3000+ (2.0ghz), was running at 800mhz.  Under load it would go up to 2100mhz.  But yesterday, I installed an Auzentech x-plosion sound card and after i installed the driver, the dynamic overclocking stopped working, my cpu is running at max all the time.  (The variable fan speed function still works).
I checked the IRQ and there is no conflict, I uninstalled the amd64 driver and core center and reinstalled.  Still does not work.  I uninstalled the auzentech driver, rebooted, and cancelled new hardware wizard.  Then the variable cpu frequency feature worked.  Once I install the driver for the auzentech, dynamic oc stops working.  I was thinking to try another pci slot but it appears to be a software issue rather than a hardware issue.  The new version of Core Center does not work with my board even though msi says it's compatible so I'm still using the one that always worked.  The amd driver is the latest and also always worked.
Has anyone else had a similar problem, perhaps using the auzentech sound card with this board and Core Center?  Or does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Hey guys, I just went to AMDs site to get the dashboard utility mentioned and in the readme, it stated that in XP, the power option needs to be set to portable/laptop.  But in the past, I read that it needed to be set to "always on" and that it is, in fact, what I had it set to before when cool n quiet was working.  Now I change it to "portable/laptop" and it works and set to "always on" doesn't work anymore.  So now Core Center reports I'm at 33c @800mhz at no load.   I don't get it???  I'll have to try an alternate utility just to verify that is indeed working.
btw, QV, I checked system properties, (right-click my computer > properties, or "system" in control panel) and on the "general" tab, it indicates an AMD64 3000+, 2.0GHz.  But I'm pretty certain the clock frequency is dropping now as reported by core center because of the decrease in the cpu temp at idle.  Am I looking in the right place in XP?  I have XP pro, SP2
Again, thanks for the input and Happy New Year

  • K8T NEO-FIS2R RTL!!! My Initial impressions

K got my Msi and athlon64 3200 in yesterday swapped it into once of my spare cases and fired her up.
K, First problem i encountered was it would not boot off my 2x512 corsair pc3700 twin X ram.
then it would not boot of my Geil pc4000 2x256 Low latency (2.5,7,3,3)
I would boot off Hynix cheapo ddr400 stick. i then tried to manually set timings incase spd did not detect properly to no avail no matter what combination i used my top ram would not work.
I then tried a set of 2x256 Hyperx pc4000 modules. The booted and tested out fine.y
MSI needs to fix this glaring problem if your board doesnt work with Corsair top of the line Ram your A$$ out!!!
K after the ram fiasco every single thing went smoothly windows install as well as installing the useful utilities off the cd like MSI Core to overclock in windows. Windows and all utilities and updates installed without a hitch.
my spare 9800 pro installed without a hitch.
i then set about doing some quick benches.
i was getting, at stock settings,
    3000 ish sandra memory bench
    6044 3dmark2k3
49 fps Halo -timedemo (1024x768x32 all high no aniso or AA)
then i bumped it up to 220 which puts me at 2200 mhz
    sandra went to 3350 ish
    6360 on 3dmark2k3
    58 fps same halo test.
    i clocked my 2.6c p4 to 3.2 at 246 fbs with the corsair pc3700 2x512 at 3,8,4,4 1:1
i get about 5700 sandra mem bench
    6038 3dmarks 2k3
    48 Halo bench
even at default the xp3200 without being fully tweaked overtakes my 3.2 p4 at 246 fbs with 1 gig tweaked ram. Then when i overclock the hammer to 2.2 its pulling away pretty healthily. i suspect a stock 3.2 at 200 fbs would get trounced.
my testing was done with 2 9800 pros both clocked at 400/350 ( my main card will do more but to keep testing even i used the top speed of the slower one) using omegas latest cat 3.8 leaked drivers and default settings.
The good: So far this board has been easy to work with and setup, exhibiting great stability and performance.
Cpu running great temps under load using the stock retail heatsink. 53c loaded with Prime95 for 3 hours. Overclocking potiential seems to be good with these chips and the feature set is great.
The Bad: Will not allow the use of todays most popular and best Ram vendors top of the line products. Msi has to fix the issues with Corsair ram and that of Geil as well this is not the cheapo Geil either.
overclocking hits a wall at 220fbs i changed nothing went straight to 220 with what through initial testing appears to be complete stability however at 221 and above displays complete random instability, this tells me MSI is going to have to include pci/agp locks for this board to stretch its legs. i believe my chip has much more to offer.
Core windows tweaking and overclocking utility does some crazy stuff i cant move my vcore past default with it.
This is real preliminary i will see if i have to turn down from 220 to run my raptor raid 0 array of the SATA controller i should have more detailed information this weekend.
Does anyone know any other good places to share/compare MSI products at? also things like beta bios's or MSI sponsered forums ect?

  • MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R SATA CD/DVD Support

Does anyone know if the K8T Neo-FIS2R mobo will or can be made to support a SATA CD/DVD drive. I am having no luck so far either getting it to recognize the drive or finding any info as to such.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

I was able to answer my own question. I was doing a bit of searching around on the MSI website and happened across a newer bios that doesn't come up in a regular search. The regular search turns up this page http://www.msicomputer.com/support/bios_result.asp (obviously inputing the correct platform and model) showing BIOS v2.2 as the most current. But by poking around on the site a bit, I came across another BIOS page for the same mobo, http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=565 showing BIOS v7.1. I figured I'd give it a try and low and behold the bios is recognizing my SATA DVD Burner.
The hd array has to be connected to the Promise controller as it will not see the optical drive even if it is set to SATA mode. I hooked the SATA DVD burner to the VIA controller and changed the setting in the bios for this controller to SATA mode as opposed to RAID mode (this was not an option on this controller in the BIOS before the flash to v7.1). I also had to have the PATA controller set to enabled or it would not recognize the drive. It is now a recognized device and shows up as an option in the boot menu. I added an additional SATA DVD drive to the other VIA SATA connector and it recognized it right away and made it available as a boot device. I tested with Knoppix and it booted fine.
Hopefully when I try to load XP this evening, I will have a winner.
    Thanks again for your replies!!!

  • K8T Neo-FIS2R - raid 1 refused by Win2K

    Hi,
I had K8T Neo-FIS2R for some time, working flawless. I had 1 ATA drive (Maxtor 120GB, 8MB) on a VIA controller. Then I decided to buy another similar one ATA HD, and create a raid 1 array (ATA+ATA) on Promise controler, with existing Win2K SP4 instalation.
Everything went smoothly, creation of array and image on second HD. Then reboot, Windows start loading... and suddenly BSOD. Message: "If this is your first time seeing this message...check for viruses...corrupted HD...blah blah".
Tried loading again and again - same situation.
Then I discarded array, rebooted, and created it again. Same problems. And headache & rage.
Few days later, I had a possibility to borrow a new SATA Maxtor 120GB drive, and try with ATA + SATA raid 1 combination. Done everything from the beggining, creating of array and image, at the end...again BSOD with the same message. 100% identical like in 2xATA combination.
I thought that maybe the problem is in "original" ATA HD, so i tried with another combination: second (new) ATA HD from first situation (image of original HD was still on it, but with discarded array), anda SATA from second as a "slave" (so, this one is deleted in creating of this array). Same, same, same... Needless to say, at the end I tried with SATA as "master" and ATA as "slave". No progress.
BIOS and all drivers were/are up-to-date. All HD`s work OK in a "no raid" situation, on both controllers.
I have searched this forum, but didn`t find similar problem. If you have some ideas/suggestions/solutions, you will be a hero, for saving a one young man`s life
    Thanks in advance,

You will need to read the Promise Ademdum manual that came along with the regular user manual for setup details.
Thanks for trying to help, but I have done that all. I can create a raid array with ATA drives only on Promise...

  • K8t neo fis2r framerate problem

i have an athlon 64 3400+, msi k8t neo fis2r, 120 gb seagate barracuda, corsair xms series pc3200 512MB ram(with black heatspreader), gainward geforce fx5700ultra, 500w allied power supply.  I'm having terrible framerate problems when i'm playing games.  It doesn't matter what game i'm playing...i've been playing unreal tournament as a tester game.  At first I thought i had a bad video card so i sent that back.  I'm still having the same problem.  I've flashed my bios, sp1a, all the newest chipset drivers, set my RAM timings, newest video card drivers (53.03), everything.  I don't know what is going on.  My games run at the same frame rate at 640x480 then when they are on 1024x768.  When I turn vsynch on, i'd say about half or maybe more of the time i'd have bad frame rate, when I turn vsynch off my games play reallllly fast.  It seems to jump in and out of normal rate of play.  I was talking to my friend and he thought it was the timing chip on my motherboard.  I'm on my last straw and i'm about to send this board back for a replacement.

I dont know what you mean by am i letting windows install it...but i'm using live update to download it then it automatically installs itself.  I'll try that uninstall the agp thing on the 4 in 1 but I doubt it'll do anything seeing as how i've probably reinstalled windows 4 or 5 times and installed the 4 in 1 drivers each time to no avail.  I really think my mobo's agp slot is bad or something on my mobo is bad.  I was using a 300W psu for awhile, that might have done something to the board.

  • 6600GT not working with K8T neo-FIS2R

I recently returned a K8T NEO-FIS2R MB for repair. The problem was that the PS/2 and USB ports were broken. However the MB has been returned and the PS/2 and USB ports work fine. I posted about this several months ago.
Now the AGP port seems to be broken (not the actual slot). I have tried a 6800 Ultra and a 6600 GT (AGP version) GFX card in this slot. Both cards fail at the driver installation point. I have tried driver versions 66.93, 67.02 and 67.03. I also tried 3 versions of the via drivers 451, 453 and 455. Even tried XP with SP1 and SP2. The PC will sometimes BSOD, reset, won't boot into windows. The drivers sometimes install then other times they won't, etc. The problems only seem to be with the drivers for the GFX cards.
The 6600 GT works as I have tried it in another MB without any problems.
I know the memory works fine as I used memtest86+ for a couple of hours on the default settings without any errors and it works in another PC.
The spec of the PC is:
    XP pro
    K8T NEO-FIS2R MB
    512MB corsair XMS at 2.5-3-7-3
    XFX 6600GT
    40gig HDD
    FDD
    Plextor CD writer
    DVD Rom
    PSU is a Q-tec 550W
I know Q-tec PSUs are not up to much from what I have read elsewhere in this forum, but I have had it running in a similar system with the 6800 Ultra installed without any trouble (even with the above MB before it went faulty). I have also tried a 400W PSU, that came with the case. The Voltages on the 12V line are between 12.00 and 12.03 when using the Q-tec PSU.
Has any body else had these problems with the 6600GT in the mentioned MB.
Also, how can I check the serial number on the MB with the label on the box, as this MB that was returned to me looks to “clean” to be the one I sent away for repair.
    Thanks for any help

Hey, I'm glad to see a post on the new Gforce 6600GT AGP card.  I just recently put together a brand new system (see my sig for specs).  System runs great.  The only thing I wanted to do was replace the video card, and after a great deal of anxiety I decided the Geforce 6600GT AGP was the best bang for the buck.
Well I got home, installed the card and never get passed the bios screen.  (shows your processor, memory, memory siz), the screen u hit DEL to go into the bios.
The system doens't lock up, NUM LOCK can still be turned on and off, and CAPS can be turned of and on... but thats it.  Just sits on that screen.  I can't go into the bios either.
what settings do I need to do prior to isntalling this card to get it to work.
Let me know if you all need anymore details to help me out.
oh, I did reset my frequency to 10x200 (which is what I think the 3000+ is supposed to be at).

  • MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R (Socket 754) and Corsair 1GB DDR Value Select PC3200 Kit (2x512MB)

Hi I just ordered the following from overclockers.co.uk and wanting some confirmation that the memory will be compatible with this Mother board
    Corsair 1GB DDR Value Select PC3200 Kit (2x512MB) and MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R
    Thanks
    Kevin

    kevtucker,
I'm running the same setup up as you and have not experienced any ram related problems so far. I'm happy with it and it is very stable.
Every ram has different settings. For the corsair 1gb value select (2x512mb) you must make sure you use these settings for the best results:
put them in slots 1 and 3.
    use the settings 2.5-3-3-8
    set the ddr voltage 2.7
I got that information straight from the official corsair forums:
    http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/showindex.php?t=24410
    Good luck.

  • MSI K8T Neo FIS2R- Corsair Twinx XMS4000

Two weeks ago I have bought one MSI K8T Neo FIS2R with an AMD Athlon64 3200+.So far I used the computer with one DIMM of 256MB DDR PC2100 memory. This morning I have installed in the motherboard a pair of CORSAIR TWINX XMS4000 which comprises of two DIMMs of 512MB DDR 500MHz memory.
The computer did never worked again. As soon as I have turned it on, although the whole system got power the screen was blank and the motherboard did not boot. Moreover, the D-Led system of the motherboard has all its leds red which according to the manual means that the processor is probably damaged.I have never overclocked my system and before install the memory it worked perfect. I have disconnected the whole computer but the problem still exists. Can you advise me what I have to do to fix it? What is the cause of the problem? Is there any way so that I can fix it?

Hi dude i had identical problem, bought i extra stick 512 400 ddr and the system wont start. Make sure your motheoard support the made of ram. In my case Asus did not support corsaire. Also it could be the slots which are damage.

  • K8t Neo-fis2r - not booting!!!

Hello Motherboard gurus!  Any help would be appreciated...
    Here are my system specs:
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+
    Motherboard /AMD Socket 754 CPU’/ "K8T NEO-FIS2R"
    RAM - Kingston 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 X2
    Hard Drive – 120GB – Maxtor 120GB 6Y120PO
TEAC 1.44MB 3.5 Black Floppy Disk Drive
ThermalTake Silent PurPower 360WATX Power Supply
    Lite-on DVDR – Model LDW/811S/851s BLK
    ATI AIW RADEON 9600 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, CATV/Video Out/Video In, 8X AGP, Model "ALL-IN-WONDER 9600"
Everything was working just fine until I switched out my CPU fan for a super quiet Zalman fan.  I hit the power and nothing, but the fan spins up just fine.  No video.  The LED's on the back cycle through a couple of settings and sit at all green except for the upper left at red.  I am at a loss ...perhaps the video card?  I tried replacing the original fan and got the same result
Thanks in advance for any help,
    JD

Your power is weak for sure. However you may also be seeing a fan that runs to slow for the motherboard to read. If the speed drops below what the MB expects it will cause issues as it thinks the CPU fan is dead and may not want to operate at all. Check that by reinstalling your old fan. Also on the power issue what is the 12v rail amps on that PSU?

  • K8T Neo FIS2R not getting through POST

I hope some of you might be able to help me.  I just finished building a new system using the K8T Neo FIS2R motherboard.  I actually had everything working with XP installed, but this morning, I have not booted once.  It's not clearing POST anymore.
I get a long beep followed by 8 short beeps.  According to the BIOS beep codes I've seen in other posts, that has something to do with the BIOS checksum error.  I did upgrade the BIOS to 1.7 from an MSI Live Update download.
I'm basically stuck, is the mobo dead?

This does not bode well for my current situation, or yours.  I have to believe that there are many people out there that have a successful 1.7 BIOS running.
But I'm beginning to lead in this direction now, especially since your description is close to mine.  I was able to run in v1.7 for a short time, then it just died.
Also, I don't know if this helps, but after my beep codes, I assume the POST continues, because about 15 seconds later there is 2 short beep following by 1 long beep and the D-bracket is has green all around minus number 4 which is read.  Assume blue=green here :
This is "Testing RTC (Real Time Clock)".  At this stage it just stops.
I am assuming that I can flash my BIOS using the cntrl-home method, however, if that fails, are we looking at RMA here...   And if so, what are peoples experiences with RMA'ing with an online dealer?  How much proof will I need to go through?
Also, by the way, these forums are awesome... The data here has been great.  It's nice to see such a great forum that has valuable information.
Thanks to everyone for the help so far.
