K8T NEO (MS-6702 VT8237) can't find SATA drive

I just got a Seagate 160gb SATA drive (retail).  In the bios settings sata is enabled (default), Serial Port 1 is on Auto (default) but I don't know where to look in the BIOS to see that the drive is recognized.  I felt the drive and it's warm so I know it's getting power.  Brand new SATA cable from the Seagate box.  I'm using the drive as the primary drive to install OS.  I downloaded "VIA VT8237(R) SATA RAID Driver (For floppy driver)". Put on floppy, restarted with my bootable XP disc, hit F6 when XP was starting setup.  It recognized the driver install (gave me driver choice of XP, 2000 and NT).  Picked XP and then it continues loading.  Finally says "no hard drive found" (or something like that).  I even tried keeping my IDE as primary so I could add it as a secondary drive in windows. Installed all the latest 4 in1 drivers, raid setup and everything and won't recognize.  This is my first SATA install so I guess I'm missing something.  I guess I shoulda got the EIDE to make it ez :(  Please help!

Hi!
Have a look at the connector you used. If you have the full K8T Neo, you have two SATA controllers. One VIA and one Promise. You then have 4 SATA ports on the board. you need to use the ones closest to your RAM, so, the upper ones.
Did you buy a SATA or SATA-II disk? In case it's SATA-II, check the SATA/SATA-II jumper on the drive and set it to SATA-I. Your board does NOT support SATA-II.
when you checked this, please verify in BIOS that you actually did enable the VIA V8237 SATA controller. When you did, boot further untill the POST screen disappears. Now, you see a VIA SATA BIOS screen. It should list your Seagate now.

  • K8t neo 2 ver 2.0 and two sata drives acting up

Hi all: I have had a single 1 terabyte sata drive on my k8t neo2 for a year now and no problems with it. I also have an IDE 200 gig boot drive that windows is on.
Last week I installed a 2nd 1.5 terabyte drive as an archive storage drive and now am having wierd problems.
I was copying files from the 1 terabyte drive(E drive) to the 1.5 tera drive(F drive) and noticed copying was really slow. I ran HD tach and it said both drives were reading around 3 meg/second.
I then rebooted, went into Bios and it said the 2 SATA drives were set for RAID. I switched them to IDE, rebooted and now windows ran a disk check on the new F (1.5)drive. I did not notice if it had errors or not.
I then tried hdtach again and am getting 80 mb/second on the old E drive and 78 on the new F drive. (I cant recall the exact numbers but they were really high)
    GREAT
I copied about 200 gig of files and the copying went nicely, and seemed to me to copy fast as they should. Than I had a weird bug I have had for 3 years, and had to reboot (unrelated bug)
Now when the system booted it did another disk check on the new F drive, found about 6 errors and when in Windows hd tach once again says both sata drives are running at around 3 mb/second. I manually tried copying files, and yes they were horribly slow.
SO another reboot, switching back to RAID in Bios. System did not do a disk check this time, and now I am back to a fast 80 meg/second speeds on both SATA drives.
The IDE drive stays around 50 meg/second and does not seem to be affected.
Please note, these speeds I report are from HD tach, but I also manually copy files using file manager and time them with a stop watch and can tell they are horrible times. By a factor of 10 at least slower.
I have a new sata cable installed on the new 1.5 drive. The k8t manual says I have  the 8237r plus chip set and I have read this supposedly can read 1.5 drives fine. It did as far as I know because the drive install went perfectly and worked the first try, it just was slow acting and I noticed these drive problems.
     my questions.
    1) I do not want any raid capability. Shouldn't I leave the SATA bios setting set to IDE mode?
    2) If I am supposed to set it for RAID then do I need to install windows RAID drivers? and if so, what mode RAID? I want no mirroring or anything like that. I just want a 2nd SATA drive to archive my movie database to.
    3) Is the new 1.5 drive bad?
Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you both for answering. I have a new, less than month old Thermaltake butterfly 475 watt PSU. I have both sata drives on separate data cables, but they share the same Power supply cable. I made sure the sata data cables have nice big turns in them, no kinks or sharp edges.  The sata ports on this motherboard are not in an optimal location for drive bays thats for sure.
I only had the one sata power cable out of the PSU. It has 2 sata power plugs on its end. My IDE drive has a seperate molex power line. My video card has a separate molex cable, and the DVD and floppy drive are sharing a molex power cable from the PSU. I can get you the bus amperages later if needs be.
    1) The bug I have had, is caused by my uninterrupted power supply. Sometimes when I do a cold boot, it installs 30-50 instances of its UPS program service. This has happened maybe 5 times in the past 3 years, so it does not really concern me. I just do another cold boot and it runs correctly and only has the 1 instance as it should.
Of course it just HAD to happen when I was debugging these other hard drive woes.
They both are sata II drives. I did not set their jumpers because I thought the motherboard was supposed to read sata II fine, just not run at those speeds.
WL1000GSA1672   1 terabyte worked fine for 1.5 years now.
    WL1500GSA3272C  1.5 terabyte.  new a week ago.
The IDE drive I did not record the brand, it is a generic 200 gig drive. I cant even recall who makes it. Probably 4 years old now. This IDE drive is my windows boot drive as well.
Doing all this from memory since I have very limited Internet on this bad computer.
    winXP service pack 3
dual core athalon 2800 I believe.
Gskill 2 gig memory good quality, I cant recall its specs off hand.
Nvidia 7600 GS 512 meg memory
    thermaltake PSU 475W
    Thermaltake CPU fan. copper core.
I cold booted 3 times now and after boot I run HD tach and it shows 78-80 meg speeds. I saw no disk checks come up. I watched closely. I also ran a manual disk check and it found no errors.
At this time I have around 250 gig on the new 1.5 terabyte drive.
I hesitate to backup any more until I can trust things, or have some idea what caused this problem.
In case you are wondering why I installed the new drive. I only had around 40 gig left on the single terabyte drive and maybe 20 gig left on the 200 gig IDE drive.
So my thoughts were to transfer off alot of video and images from the other 2 drives to give them more free space and head room.
It has been my long suffering experience in the past that when drives get close to their capacity limits they start suffering problems.
    Thank you awl once again.

  • Where can i find sata driver for HP pav dv6663 us p/nGY140UA#ABA

My hard drive is not recognized in Bios. I've discovered that the driver that is needed to recognize my sata hard drive is missing. I have searched everywhere for this driver but Im not exactley sure what Im looking for. I need to know the manufacturer for my motherboard HP PAVILION DV 6663US p/n GY140UA #ABA . Forgive me as I am a NOOB. This seems like it should be an easy find but for me it is not. Any direction would be greatly appriciated. Thanks again.

    You're very welcome.
I wish I had an answer for you but I am not sure on this one.
Normally when you get those install a device driver notes when installing W7 or Vista, it is due to when someone buys the software online from the microsoft store, downloads the OS installation file, burns it to a DVD and the burn is bad.
This is not the case (at least as far as I know), when one uses an installation disk that came out of a Microsoft retail box full or upgrade version or OEM version.
So, if by chance you are trying to install W7 using a disk you burned yourself, try burning the ISO file to another DVD, and burn it at the slowest possible speed you can burn it at.
Additionally, go into the BIOS and run the HDD test.  From what you have posted, I don't think the HDD is bad.
Windows 7 does not need any additional files to install on your model PC. That, I guarantee.
It has all the SATA drivers, etc., that are necessary.

  • MSI K9VGM-v - can't find SATA drives

Hi everyone ....... This is an older dual core board and has only 2 SATA sockets, the rest is IDE. Has a nice Phoenix style bios, but truthfully I don't fully understand what all the settings are. Maybe I just don't know what to change in the bios or (gulp) it needs an update which could probably be done from a flash drive. I'd rather try changing the settings first because I'm worried about destroying the board. Could use some instructions ........ Thanks

Just select: "XP 32" (or "XP 64")

Thank you very mutch for the respond

Well there is little we can respond to here at the moment. This is not MSI but a USER to USER forum for MSI. No MSI staff this. However it is a known issue the Semperon 64's need a Bios to work right and there is none as yet folr them. Normal Semperons and Athlons work. Just not the Semperon 64's as yet.

  • K8T Neo MS-6702 ver1 with XFX 7600GT AGP issue

    Hi All,
We have a customer with the following issue (this is a copy of the Email sent to XFX Tech)
We have a customer that we have sold a PV-T73A-UDF7 VA.1 W09/06 (XFX 7600GT AGP) when it is installed on his MSI motherboard (K8T Neo MS-6702 v1) it won’t load the OS/go into BIOS, Hangs at the Post screen,
Have flashed BIOS to latest version
    Have defaulted BIOS
We have tested the card in another computer it is fine…
The motherboard AGP slot works fine with other cards….
The PSU has been tested it is fine...
Do you have any ideas? Or know of any issues with this combination?

Hey thanks for the quick replies….
It some how fixed its self? And after an hour or so of swapping cards trying different PSU’s changing settings in BIOS ECT,
It some how came good, I can’t really explain why or how, could be a slightly faulty AGP slot on the MOBO?
Could have been the molex power connector to the video card?
Any way the machine rebooted fine several times so the end user was happy plus it saves me the hassle of having to get him a different brand card that may/may not have worked and getting stuck with an AGP to try and sell!!
P.S wish the ASUS forums were as good as the MSI ones!! nice work everybody

Later BIOS releases carry-over all the changes of previous releases.  You don't need to go backwards to get the earlier change.
Which BIOS version did you have before and are using now?  I'm having trouble determining which board you have from "K8T Neo (MS-6702 v1.0)".  Is this your motherboard?

I might be able to update the VIA SATA ROM in your BIOS to the latest version (v4.97) but I need to know for certain which board and BIOS.

  • VISTA - can;t find device driver for your IPOD - read the solution here!

It would appear that VISTA is rather stupid when it comes to the Ipod - it can't find the driver for itself. Do the normal autmatic way of trying to find the driver (that doesn't find the device) then look in the hardware device list (control panel) you should see you Ipod listed under other devices with a yellow triangle next to it. Right click this line and select "properties". then click "update device driver". Then, DON'T do the automatic find, instead click "I will choose the device from a list". Click on "storage device" and voila! VISTA now finds a USB mass storage device and installs it - JOB DONE! HOORAY!
    good luck!

When you are prompted to look for a driver input
C:\WINDOWS\System32 and browse it will find a generic
    volume that fixes it.
I tried this as well. I can find a Generic Volume (I think it lists SD, MMC- neither of which seem correct), but neither of those helps. iPod still isn't recognized as a drive even in disc mode. I started another thread after not finding this one. I'm not sure why USB Mass Storage device isn't one of the options.

  • T400 Windows 7 64bit Can't Find Printer Driver

    Hi all,
Perhaps someone can  help with this puzzling problem. Just bought the T400 w/Win 7 64 bit from the Lenovo website. It is great except one thing.
I have a Win2k T22 ThinkPad on the network with a parallel port HP laserjet 6L and a USB port HP DeskJet 970cxi. When I go to add a printer on the T400, Win7 searches the network and finds the printers. For the 6L it downloaded a driver and it works fine. For the 970cxi it tries to find a driver from MS website but can not find a driver.
When I connect the970cxi printer directly to a USB port on the Win7 T400 it finds a driver and it works fine. But not over the network? Even after it found a driver when it was connected locally?
On the network is a Debian Linux computer that can print to both printers. I turned on printer sharing on it. The T400 can find the printers on the Linux box and can print to both the 6L and 970cxi.
I loaded VirtualBox on the T400 and then install Ubuntu Linux. The Ubunu Linux can find the printers and can print to both.
Does anyone know what the heck is going on here? Why can't the T400 find a driver for the 970cxi printer but when it's connected directly it finds the printer driver and works?
    Is this a Win7 64 bit issue?
    No driver available?
    Communication problem w/printer?
Buy a new printer and throw out a perfectly good printer?
    Thanks,
    Rich

In case the link gets broken I cut and pasted it here:
    1. Click Start, click Control Panel and double click Devices and Printers.
    2. Click Add a Printer.
    3. Select "Add a local printer".
    4. Select "Create a new port". Choose "Local Port" as the type of the port.
    5. In the box "Enter a port name", type the address as the following format.
\\Network address of the host computer\[The Share Name of the printer
    Then click Next.
    6. Choose the correct driver in the driver list. If no available driver, click the button Windows Update, wait for the process finishes and then look for the driver again.
    7. Finish the installation.
Thanks! Your suggection got me to an error I could identify. And a solution. I hope others find this helpful.

  • I can't find a driver for HP Officejet Pro L7580.

Updated my system to Windows 7 after years of using Vista.  Now I can't use my HP Officejet Pro L7580 because it can't find a driver to install.   Every tab says that the device is working perfectly.  I have removed all HP software...turned it off everything...rebooted...reloaded and still the message says that driver is missing and can't find it on the HP website.  It also said that it doesn't have permission to update drivers.  When checking that area....thats' wrong.  Updates are always automatic without permission per that tab you open to change settings.  I can't see the problem/solution anymore...can anyone else?

1 What do you mean by System Information? Is that System Preferences?
System Information is located in Applications > Utilities. It shows lots of information about your Mac, including information about the printer queues.
    dino1335 wrote:
2 When I go to System Preferences and click on the printer LBP6000/LBP6018 there is no information in that window about the URI if I click Open Print Queue there is no information other than the ID of the printer
In previous versions of OS X you did see this information via the Options & Supplies pane for the selected printer in Print & Scan. But with 10.8 this information was removed so know you need to use System Information > Printers to see information about an installed printer.
    dino1335 wrote:
3 If I print a document it just goes to print (it goes through the printer but no information is printed on the paper) there is no print cue so I don't know where to find the information on the URI or what I am supposed to copy
I believe that the document does not print because the print queue has not been created correctly. The CAPT driver requires a specific queue name and if the queue name is wrong then you will not be able to print.
    dino1335 wrote:
FYI I also have a MacBook Pro (old) with Leopard which I also print to the same printer on and there isn't a problem with that just with this new MacPro which has Lion installed
Not surprised to read that. Mtn Lion has caused some issues for owners of CAPT printers, especially if they upgraded to 10.8 from 10.7 or 10.6.
Since you mention the ability to print on 10.5, I just want to check that you are physically moving the USB cable connected to the LBP from the 10.5 Mac to the 10.8 Mac, rather than sharing the printer from one Mac to the other. Because if you are sharing the printer from the 10.5 to the 10.8 Mac then this can be a cause of your current issue. The CAPT driver does not work when it is being shared to other Mac's.

  • Can't find home drive after reinstallation of O.S.X

    Dear friends,
I have one ibook G4 and a Macbook Pro. Two days ago, the ibook G4 failed to start up, I tried in safe mode then pass through. Then I run Onyx-automation followed by restart, after that neither my desktop nor the sidebar of the finder window show the home drive icons,( I partitioned the internal hard disk into two drives). But when I run Disk utility and found both are there correctly, including the files and capacity, usage etc. it tested both drives "appears OK". Yesterday, I tried to reinstall O.S.X Tiger 10.4 without removing previous system via a firewire to my Macbook Pro which installed with Leopard( the disc drive of my ibookG4 corrupted last year).
finally, the hard drives are still invisible, I did tick the display options for hard disks from the preference panel of Finder. To the worse, the same problem happened to my Macbook Pro after I restarted it.
It seems a simply software issue, physically the hard disks are ok through the disk verify and permission verify.
    Headache! Please advise ASAP.

what happens when you enter commandshiftc in finder? that should show all the drives. if it doesn't, maybe the drive has acquired the hidden flag. run the following command in terminal
    sudo chflags 0 /
you'll have to enter your admin password which you won't see as you type it. that's normal. see if the drive shows up.

    hi, V.K.
after running the two commands, suddenly, The Macintosh HD icon showed up at both desktop and sidebar in finder, but the other drive (I partition into two parts) still not showing. Then I open Onyx and tick the "unhidden those hidden files", I found that drive. So I conclude it was hidden by sth. But I don't know how to unhidden it, the icon always in grey.
    Can you please instruct again.

aha, so it was a hidden flag after all. then run
    sudo chflags 0 /volumes/*
you may need to restart after that to make the second drive show up.

I don't have a source attribute for this (maybe I wrote it myself!):
There are visibility toggling instructions at [this web site|http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/invisible.html] using Terminal or Applescript.
If you don't like Applescript or Terminal there is an application called [JuhOS X|http://www.saunalahti.fi/~juhruo/juhosx> that lets you toggle visibility on individual items. It does not have the most intuitive interface but your drive should appear on the first page. Check it really is invisible, then click on the drive and toggle visibility. Effects will not take place until you restart your finder, so the easiest thing to do then will be to restart your computer.

  • Windows 7 can´t find the driver for HP Officejet 5510. (Windows Update is set to automatic.)

Hello everyone, I just installed Windows 7 - 64 bit. Supposedly the driver for the HP Officejet 5510 will install automatically in Windows 7 when connected via a USB, which is not happening.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01796879&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&os=4063&product=311...
I am getting the message that Windows 7 can't find the driver. I don´t understand why?
My Windows Update is set  to automatic.
I see the device under printers. But when I click on it it says driver missing.
Is there any solution? Possibility to get the driver some other way? Unfortunately HP doesn't provide a download on their website.
    Can anyone help me, pleease?
    Honza

I have the same problem. I spent all this money to get more features, not less so Windows 7 should run all of my XP stuff. Now I see that my HP Officejet 5510 all-in-one won't scan and I can't save in pdf format. C'mon HP....give us a driver! If I wind up having to buy another printer, I swear it won't be an HP if I get abandoned on this one. And I'll also switch vendors for all of the printers I'm responsible for replacing at work too.

  • New MacBookPro. Where can I find a driver for my Microtek Scanmaker 3600

I recently bought a new MacBook Pro (10.6.8) but to date, haven't been able to find any software/driver to use for my scanner, including the Microtek site. I have a Microtek Scanmaker 3600 that still works perfectly. I have searched forums and online sites for software to use the scanner on the new laptop and hate to think I need to buy a new scanner when the 3600 works fine. I have an HP Deskjet 930C and was able to find the software/driver to use on the new laptop. Does anyone know where I can find the software/driver to get my scanner to work?
Where can I find a driver for my Microtek Scanmaker 3600. Tried VueScan and TwainSane without success. Do not want to buy a new scanner when old one runs great. Please Help?
    Thanks!

    Thank you for the response.
I downloaded it and it keeps telling me "No Scanner Detected." I looked on their website under supported scanners, found my Microtek ScanMaker 3600 and it says "NO" for Mac.

I just sent an email to them asking if VueScan does support a my scanner. I hope it does. I have been searching but am not proficient or know enough of what to look for. I just don't want to have to buy another scanner.
