When I boot my computer up I get 3 beeps which pause and then the 3 beeps repeat.  It does this indefinately.   I also have a 100% blank screen the entire time
This is my setup:
MSI "K8T NEO2-F" VIA K8T800 Pro Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket 939 CPU
AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 512KB L2 Cache, Socket 939 64-bit Processor
POWERCOLOR ATI RADEON 9800 Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "R98E-PD3-Bulk"

Seagate 200GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive, Model ST3200822A
ATX12V total output wattage is 420W
Anyone know what my problem is?

I am not sure on three beeps but can you post the power out on the PSU's 12v rail from the lable on the unit please?

  • New K450e - Installed Graphics Card, 2 beeps, Blank screen

    Hello,
Just received my k450e with onboard HD 4600 graphics.  Put in an HD 7570 graphics card (max watts = 60). 2 beeps, blank screen. Bios is Auto for video.
    1) Is it the lower power supply that came with the computer = 280 Watts causing no video?
    2) Will the mother board (bios) take a 980 gtx if I upgrade the power supply. to appropriate specs?
Lenovo, please confirm both. It's my first time with you and I don't want to start our relationship with a return. This is a nice desktop for the money.
    Thank you

    hi rutenguten,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
    Regarding your questions:
    1. As per this chipset table, the HD 7570 consumes around 10-11W so the 280W PSU should be sufficient to power up this card. Using the onboard HD 4600 graphics, can you try and boot into the BIOS and set the following settings (if applicable):
    Security Tab:
    Secure Boot = Disabled
    Startup / Boot Tab:
    CSM = Enabled
Boot Mode = Legacy or Legacy First
When finished, press F10 to Save and Exit and observe if you can now boot from the HD 7570 graphics card. If this works, the UEFI firnware is likely not compatible with the HD 7570 GPU and requires the BIOS to be set to legacy mode.

    2. I haven't seen anyone use a GTX 980 on their K450e but RogerSC posted in this thread that his K450e came with a GTX 760 so a GTX 980 should be possible coupled with the right PSU.

  • Dv5 1002nr blank screen n beep code of series of 3 beeps

Hi...I have this dv5 1002nr laptop..upon boot it gives a blank screen and a series of 3 beeps three times..the beep codes I found say its the memory..I tried that to no avail..what would the next step to try..any ideas?

    Hey there, kahlic
I see you laptop is unable to boot and you're getting a beep code of 3 beeps when turning the device on.
You were right in your assessment of this sequence being indicative of a memory problem. However, you say you've attempted some sort of troubleshooting to no avail. What steps did you take to try to solve the issue with the memory?
Did you remove all DIMM modules from the motherboard and replace them one at a time, attempting a boot on each single installation?
If you have not, try this and see how this affects your boot success.
While you're removing the dimm cards, conduct a visual examination of the cards and the seating to make sure there are no cracks, build-up(black substance on the contact surface), or dust. The contacts should be a dull golden color devoid of any dark marks or irregularities.
If reseating your dimms do not solve the issue, you may be required to purchase new memory for your system.
Are you aware of your device's warranty status?

  • Blank Screen No Beep No Post on new Z87-G45 Gaming

I posted this on another forum, but since I think my issue might be a bit different I figured a new message would be better.
I switch on older mobo with the this one, new ram, and new Cpu.
When I power it on everything spins up but no post no screen no beep nothing....just spinning fans.
I did all the tests, plugs, bent socket, ram chips, etc...
Since I was switching out a older motherboard with this one, I knew my power supply was good but who knows.
Today.  I took a case and stripped it down to metal...put in all the correct mounts in the correct positions, new (in box) Antec 650W PSU
Mounted the board in the new case, connected the speaker, usbs and switches.  Plugged in the PSU.
Note: I didn't hook up anything.  No Hard disk, no DVD drive, no keyboard, no mouse, nothing.
plugged in the monitor (via DVI)
turned it on...same result.  Spinning CPU fans but no beep and a blank screen.
BTW, I registered at the MSI support site but since I send in my serial number tag for the rebate I couldn't register a product.
    MOBO: Z87-G45 Gaming  purchased 12/30/2013
    CPU: i7 4771
    RAM:  Patriot 2x8GB (in slot 2 and slot 4) PC3-15000 1866Mhz
    PSU: Antec  650W
Yesterday I even pulled out the multimeter and started look at the voltage numbers...not that I know what they are supposed to be.
    What else can I try?
Any help would be great and thank you!
    Gene

    Just an update.
I returned the board to Fry's and while there, there was someone else returning the same board for the exact same reason.  He got a different board and I just exchanged mine for the same model (even though it was an open box).
I followed xmad's advice and did a out of case test with it.  While sitting on the plastic 'Conductive Grid Bag, I plugged in the CPU, the RAM and the power.  Hooked up the DVI and turned on the power.
and....got a message on the screen about the amount of memory has changed.
I'll take that.   Putting the board in the case and hooking up all the wires now.
Thank you xmad for helping me out....at least I know I wasn't going insane.

  • Blue Screen On MSI K8T Neo2

I'm Assembling this new PC unit of mine, Changing My Asus Mobo into this MSI K8T Neo2.
With this New Unit I bought a brand New HDD SataI Seagate Baracuda 160gb 7200rpm.
Here are the problems that I encounter:
    1. Cannot Detect HDD.
But this issue has been already resolved, by Reinstalling New Windows.
    2. (CURRENT PROB) Turns into BLUE SCREEN.
It hasnt yet booted into windows.
Take note: SO i thought HDD is th prob. But When i tried to run the same HDD into another unit, it runs smoothly and NO BLUE SCREEN problem.
Here are the Specs of my Unit:
    CPU: AMD 64
    Mobo: K8T Neo2 V1.X G52-M6702E1
    Memory: 1gb Geil DDR400 PC 3200
    Video Card: 256mb FX5600
    HDD: 160gb Seagate Baracuda 7200rpm
    OS: Windows XP service Pack2
    PSU: 550watts HEC
    Thanks,

You could try a different drive but I thinks that Fred is right about 2 core processor and the bios update.
Went through similar problems with the K8t Neo2 but that has been over two years ago. I'm pretty sure a bios update fixed it.

  • New R4830, blank screen + beeps on boot

    Hello,
After installing a new MSI Radeon HD 4830 card in a computer, it displays only a blank screen after booting. It also gives an error code beep of 1 long then 8 short beeps (Display/Retrace test failed?). So far I've tried:
    Reseating the card.
Uninstalling old drivers (was using a Radeon x1650), rebooting and putting the R4830 in.
Installing the new drivers from the R4830 cd.
Resetting the BIOS to default values.
I'm beginning to suspect that the PSU is unable to support this card, but I would appreciate advice before I advise my relative to spend more money. Specs for the system in question are in my signature. If any more details are needed or would be helpful, I'd be glad to find them.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Like Boneman said about PSU, a system with that 4830 video card should have minimum 26 amps for +12V. (With your old 1650 it was recommended +12V~18A) Yours is only 19A so is way below recommended power. I recommend a Corsair VX450W/+12V~33A. You can't go by watts as the cheap PSU's vs quality PSU's of same watts can be as much as double the +12V amps.
     A close example would be your C M 400W PSU/+12V~19A vs Corsair CX400W/+12V~30A

  • K8T Neo2 .. Posts, but won't boot the operating system

    Hi Folks,
New here. I've got a good one which I may have caused by experimenting with Dynamic overclocking at various levels.
After a normal Post, and noting that all 4 diagnostic leds are lit ( operating system booting ), the screen just goes blank.
    - Reset CMOS and Dos Flashed the BIOS to 3.3 ( K8T Neo - F ) to no avail.
The other kicker is that if I try booting from the DVD (IDE Master) drive with an XP OS disk,  After "press any key to boot from CD"  followed by " Inspecting system configuration" .. or something like that ... again ... the screen goes blank.  Dat's it.    Any Ideas ??   Ugh.
    Here's my machine:
    [Athlon64 3500 90nm (Winchester)
    K8T Neo2 - F  ('64 Socket 939)
1Gb OCZ 500mhz DDR ( this is overkill for this board ... live and learn )
    Evga 6800GT
One SATA Seagate 120GB Hard Drive
    ASUS DVD Writer
    LiteOn Combo DVD/CDRW
    LiteOn DVD
Generic 6 in 1 Floppy Drive
    Rosewill 500W PSU
    Generic? Winmodem

    Fafner,
Ok. Here's the scoop. Before reading your last reply ( also I already tried another SATA cable ), I left the SATA enabled in the BIOS, but disconnected the SATA cable from the SATA Drive. Sure enough, the XP Setup flies through all the way untill the ' Install or ' R ' recover ' option screen is displayed.  The only other time I got this far was when I disabled the SATA controller in the BIOS.  So now, again, with this controller enabled, but the Drive cable disconnected from the Drive, Setup goes as far as it can.  Sounds like I somehow fried the SATA Drive .. eh ?

  • Windows won't boot after 9.1 flash (K8T Neo2-F)

    Hello,
I tried flashing to 9.1 to be able to use dual channel mode, but when i try to boot windows xp (sp2) won't start. I just get a blank screen.
I changed the bootorder correctly (1: CD 2:PM Maxtor).
I can boot fine from a CD or floppy when i press F11 or change bootorder.
Also when i try to put the Floppy as first bootdevice it just checks the floppydrive for a bootable disk, then halts.
When the CD is the first bootdevice and HD second, i get a few (about 3) weird colored characters on my screen.
When i try to boot from the second harddrive (40GB on primary slave), i get the message 'Missing operating system'.
I've had a similar problem before when i went from 3.3 to 9.1 and changing the LBA mode on the harddrive fixed that but now it doesn't change.
Could this be because the drive was formatted in non-LBA mode (although i doubt that's the case...)?
    Any idea's?
    Thanks.
    System:
    300W power supply (no brand)
    MSI K8T Neo2-F (VIA K8T880)
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Venice)
    Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2 (2x512MB)
    Nvidia Geforce 3 (64mb) AGP
    Maxtor 6Y080L0 (80GB), primary master
    Seagate ST340016A (40GB), primary slave
BenQ CD/DVD writer (16x): secondary master

And what about optimized defaults? We have already found this to be a problem if you don't set that first before setting up the Bios.
I mentioned the PSU as all you listed is watts and that as I say does not help us at all here. However 15a is asking for problems as you have nothing in reserve to operate from is say the PSU gets warm and loses efficiency, which by the way drops fast, or during startup you can have issues as well and may not even know it as this is the time that PSU's are asked for the most power. Also as you have a GF3 vid card, which at the moment is likely saving that PSU from even more stress, you aren't using 12v on that card, but if you upgrade sometime to a better vid card you will certainly go over the power budget that PSU has available and burn it up or maybe more. What I am saying is that we already know from experience here with people having issues that 15a don't cut it.
So now that I have had to repeat that all over again in yet another thread... You shopuld at least have a look at what you already have as needing an upgrade and while hopefully not at the moment as we already know it runs wether well or not, you should considure upgrading it before you do much else with that system. Not that you need to replace it this very moment. I am just making you aware that your already looking at a possible problem at some point there.

  • Blank screen after X-Fi installat

    Hello!
I bought today a SB X-Fi Platinum and of course installed it. Now I have a problem:
Whenever the card is in a pci slot no graphic card seems to be detected indicated by a blank screen. The D-Bracket LEDs of my MSI Board (95P Neo2 Platinum) indicate that there is no difference between the X-fi with or without the (PCIe) Graphics Card installed. After init video interface (this process takes longer without having the X-Fi installed!) it turns to "BIOS sign on" and - before i loaded the fail-safe settings in the bios - beeped pulsely (?). With the fail-safe settings loaded nothing beeped anymore but no graphic output anyway.
First consideration: not enough power. So I unplugged all harddri'ves and cd-roms but still the same. I also tried all the other pci slots (btw: the x-fi is the only pci card) - no difference.
So I need your help! I really was happy about the X-Fi but now I am getting more and more disappointed.
I will f?rst go to the vendor tomorrow and hope to be able to exchange the x-fi and try it with the other one, but if you have any suggestions please post them.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Greets,
    AS

I think I won't exchange since I tried the card on another PC and it did work. So for my things this X-Fi part of my life is over ;( + ...

  • K8T-Neo2 system POSTs but no BIOS

    Hello all,
Assembled a new system (specs below). When I attempt to boot it, I get a single short beep (=POST ok, right?)  and the MSI / Core cell logo screen, but can't get to BIOS, let alone open the DVD-ROM tray to load O/S CD.  D-Bracket shows
    RG,    where R=red and G=green
    GG
which the manual translates as:  "Boot Attempt:  This will set low stack and boot via INT 19h."
On the front panel the HDD activity light is on.
    System details:
    Motherboard:  MSI K8T Neo2-F  MS-6702E Ver 1
BIOS Type/Revision:  Unknown, whatever came loaded on a new board. Cleared via the jumper.
CPU:  AMD Athlon 64 3000+, Venice Core, AMD stock heatsink and fan
RAM:  Corsair Value Select; currently one 512MB stick in slot 2 (also tried in slot 1)
    Video card:  Jaton 3DForce FX5700LE
Power Supply:  Antec Smart Power 350W
      +3.3V @ 22A; +5V @ 21A; +12V_sub_1 @ 10A; +12V_sub_2 @ 15A.  +5v/+3.3V max 130W
HD:  Western Digital WD1200JB, 120GB, 8Mb Cache on IDE1 (master).  New drive, nothing on it.
    DVD-ROM:  Lite-On SOHW-1633S on IDE2 (master)
O/S:  Not loaded yet!  Will be Ubuntu linux.
    Things that I have tried:
-Started with both sticks of RAM in slots 1 and 3 and system wouldn't even post.  Removed one stick and I'm at the situation described above.
    -Cleared CMOS
-Disconnected combined floppy / flash card reader drive from cable and power supply
-Swapped keyboards.  Note, no mouse connected.
-Set jumper on HD to master (previously no jumper installed per Western Digital manual for single drive on IDE channel)
Any ideas what the problem is, and how to fix it?  My own best guess is that the Venice core CPU isn't compatible with the BIOS.  I saw that the new BIOS came out recently.  Should I try flashing the latest BIOS in, and if so, how do I do it on a non-functioning system?
    Thanks!

    Situation update:
I tried unplugging the HDD IDE cable, and am now able to get into BIOS (thanks Ui30!).  Unfortunately, there are still some problems.  BIOS fails to auto-detect the HDD as Primary Master and DVD-RW as Secondary Master.  I set them to type 9 per the Western Digital install guide, and CD/DVD-ROM, respectively.  (If someone knows what number to enter for "write precompensation" I have the rest of the info to manually configure the HDD).  I cannot edit the boot sequence in BIOS to include these devices.
On the next boot attempt with HDD reconnected, BIOS reports "Primary Master HDD Error" and "Secondary Mater is ATAPI incompatible".   However, it is trying to read the floppy drive, and I have included it as the 1st item in the boot sequence.  On subsequent boot attempts without the HDD connected, BIOS looses my settings and reverts to "no device" for the Primary Master.
The BIOS is A6702VMS V3.4B2, dated 2/25/05.  Is flashing the most recent BIOS likely to help any of these problems?  I plan to do this eventually anyway for dual channel memory support.  Is bootstrapping it now off the floppy likely to cause problems worse than what I'm facing already?
    D-Bracket still reports
    RG
    GG
I tried limiting the RAM to DDR200, but that didn't seem to do anything over the auto mode.
System gives one short beep during POST, then 2 short beeps, a pause, and 1 more beep when it tries to read the DVD-ROM.  I still can't eject the DVD tray, but since BIOS isn't recognizing the DVD drive, that's not too surprising.
So, what else should I try?  The goal is of course for the system to recognize the DVD-ROM and HDD so I can proceed with loading Ubuntu.
    Thanks again!
