K8T Neo2-F MS-6702E Error using Dual Channel RAM slots

Hello
with RAM banks on slot 1 & 3 or 2&4 as recomanded, the PC doesn't start up
on the D-Bracket 3 red leds signs memory error!
The Ram is Kingston kit 2x512 KVR400x64C3AK2/1G
Someone can help me?

I thought you may be interested to know of my experience with memory on this motherboard. I had 2 x 256MB of Geil Value PC3200 DDR Ram on slots 1 and 3 for months and months with no problem at all - they were identical modules but NOT a matched pair - and ran in dual channel mode @ 2.5 3 3 6 and 400MHz according to CPU-Z ... absolutely no problems at all. These are double sided memory modules.
I wanted to upgrade and bought a matched pair of 2 x 512 Geil Value PC3200 DDR RAM intending to upgrade to 1.5GB ... I thought that I should put the two 512s in the green (DIMMS 1 and 2) and the two 256s in the purple (DIMMS 3 and 4) ... all I got was 3 beeps ...3 beeps, etc ...so I put the two 512s in DIMM 1 and 3 .... no problems!!!!! ... then I emailed MSI and got a reply ..... put the two 512s in slots 1 and 3 and the two 256s in slots 2 and 4 ... works fine!! ... now I have 1.5GB memory.
One other thing - the memory now (exactly as the manual says it would!!) runs at 333 on 2 3 3 5; this is 2 clock cycles for the CAS latency (???) ... instead of 2.5 .. so although the bus speed is slower, it takes fewer clock cycles for this to happen (whatever it actually does - something to do with the Column Address Strobe - how quickly/regularly the columns in memory are strobed. ...).
I don't pretend to be an expert but 2.5 clock cycles at 400MHz is equivalent to 2.5 nanoseconds per cycle which is 6.25 nanoseconds for 2.5 clock cycles .... 2 clock cycles at 333 MHz is 3 nanoseconds per clock cycle ( at first glance slower ... but) so 2 clock cycles take 6 nanoseconds ... so this has to mean that 2 3 3 5 at 333 MHz is faster than 2.5 3 3 6 at 400 MHz doesn't it?

  • Can i use dual channel

Hey i am using a K8T NEO MS-6702 v1.X and i was wondering if i can use DDR dual channel ram. anyone know ? plz leave msg here or preferably email me at [email protected] , Looking at buying this Kingston ValueRAM Dual Channel Kit 184 Pin 1G(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 - Retail.

You can run Double-Sided memory on the K8T800, but not in Dual-Channel Mode. The mobo does not support it. Jocko may be able to tell you if the K8T800 PRO version supports that.

  • Neo2 platinum Encountering Stability Problems /w dual channel memory

    Hello,
Recently I built my first computer ever, see bottom.  After getting windows installed I then had problems with installing other programs and general stability issues.  I tried reinstalling windows and after the reinstall I got the same problems.
Something to do with the instability is when I start it up, and go into BIOS, it states my Athlon 64 3500+ as running at 2211, a half percent overclock.  Also, even though I have the FSB set as 200mhz, when I go into CoreCenter on windows it states the FSB as being set 201mhz.  In the nVidia system utility, it states my memory as running at 402mhz, and I had to crank that down to 400mhz to get stability, it allowed my to install programs without error, but there were still stability problems like crashes(blue screen, the computer just plain restarting without notice).  I took out one of my memory cards, both of them work alone though, I've ran memory test utilities.  That had a good effect and the computer runs fairly stable, but I still have problems, and I want to be able to take advantage of dual channel.  I'm running my memory on auto and it's using the times of 2-3-3-6-2T.
Another problem I'm experiencing is the AC97 audio not being detected and loaded by windows, it will say I have no audio device, and the speaker will not show up in the notification area in the bottom right-hand corner.  This happens inconsistantly.
                               -Thank You

    hi bknoll,
    welcome to the forum.
    1) i wouldn't worry overmuch at the 201 issue.

which test utilities did you use, Don't quiet understand  Quote

    3) It may be worth checking the Mushkin site or any documentation you have to verify that the auto settings agree with the quoted settings for the modules. It's not unkown for errors to occur when the memory controller on the CPU to misinterpret the SPD chip setting on your sticks - this is where the auto settings come from. Some memory like certain corsair modules need to run at different settings on AMD64, thus auto timings must be overidden,
    4) Have you installed the Realtek drivers from the CD, & enabled onboard sound in Bios. When these are done normally there's the MSI Sound Effect manager in control panel. you just need to set your speaker config in the Windows Sounds & Audio Devices.
    5) Usual question What power supply are you using as been underpowered on the 12v rail in particular can be the cause of crashes,

  • Dual Channel Ram in w510

I've got a w510. On Lenovo's site it says that it's capable of dual channel. i've got 2x2GB right now in my system at 1066. i ordered 2x4GB at 1066. my question is
will i still be able to run dual channel?
and if so, how do i arrange the ram being that two slots are in the back and the other two are on the other side underneath the keyboard.

Ram came in this morning. got lucky on the first try with getting it to run dual channel.
when i opened the ram slots on the back of the pc i placed a a 4gb stick on the left side.
then i lifted the keyboard for the other ram slots and they're placed on top of each other. i took the one on top out and placed a 4gb stick in there. then i placed that 2gb stick that was there and placed it in the only slot remaining. booted my pc and on the start up it said it was installing some stuff and something about dual. and then to make sure i checked cpu-z and it showed i was running dual.
this helped a bit on how to install the ram

went from a 5.9 to 7.2 on the windows index score. now my lowest is the harddrive which is at a 5.9. probably going to wait until SSD becomes a lot cheaper to get one.

  • Gaming 3 motherboard not working with dual channel ram

    Hello,
Whenever I try to put the RAM in dual channel (slots 1/3 or 2/4) in the motherboard Gaming 3 (z97), the motherboard stops working, and starts a loop of getting power for two seconds, and turning off again.. untill I kill the mains.
This doesn't happen when the Ram is in single channel (slots 1 and 2)
The ram is Corsair Value select 4 GB x2
    My specs are:
    Intel i5-4690k
    Nvidia Gtx 750 Ti
    MSI Gaming 3 motherboard
    Corsair Value select 4 GB x 2
    Samsung Evo 128 GB SSD
    The bios version is 2.3
Any help would be great. Is it a motherboard specific problem? Or voltage issues?

    Hi,
can you refer to manual and check which DIMM slots are default? As far as I know, they're 1 and 3.
Test each RAM stick individually, by going from DIMM #1 until #4. Working fine? Test the other same way. Also look around CPU socket and RAM slots for any scratches or other unusual stand offs. Also try to lower RAM down to 1333 and try again.

  • How to connect dual channel ram on a msi 865pe neo-2 plat.edition ?

    hi....
can any one tell me how to connect the RAM as dual channel on the MSI 865PE Neo-2 p Platinum Edition ?
i did like what is written in the manual but nothing happened it only works as a single channel....
    the RAm is 2x512 spectek DDR400 PC3200....
    pls help me.............

    Franknputer is right.
All systems that I build for my gamers runs in Dual Channel and the combo is 1 + 3 or 2 + 4 or 1 + 2 + 3 + 4. 1 x RAM in Channel A and 1 x RAM in Channel B minimum will give your Dual Channel Linear Mode message during startup and you know that you are running Dual Channel.
Next, it is always recommended to have the same make and model and capacity of the RAMs if you want to run in Dual Channel.

  • Z97 Gaming 5, Dual Channel RAM not working?

    Here are my specs for the moment , Windows 7, Intel Core i7 4770k, 8,00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24), Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 (EVGA)
As the title says dual RAM is not working, when I put all 4 RAM sticks in their slots or even just two in dual channel mode my monitor will not respond and the screen is just black, can't even go to BIOs.
The BIOs settings are at 1333 MHz and 1.5 v, I've tried raising the volt and lowering it, anyone have any ideas?
I've tried the 1-3 and 2-4 slots with two 4gb sticks and it does not work, but the 1-2 and 2-4 works fine, have also tried all the individual sticks so none of them are faulty.

Please clarify. You mean a single stick works in 2 or 4 but not 2 and 4 together? So that means DIMM slot #3 is the only one that doesn't work at all? My suspicion is a grounding or short under the mainboard by an errant standoff, or the DIMM slot has some debris in it, or the slot is just plain faulty. Other possible is a pin problem in the CPU socket.

  • K8N Diamond SLI with FX-55 (San Diego) and 2 sets dual-channel RAM @ 400MHz ?

I currently run this with Patriot 2048MB DDR PC3200 DUAL KIT 1024MB x 2, 400Mhz, CL2-3-2-5 (PDC2G3200LLK). I plan to buy another kit like this and would like to run the system with 4GB at the same RAM-speed as with 2GB. Is this possible?

    ap1978,
It comes down to how well the Memory Controller on your CPU can handle 4 sticks of RAM.
Btw, could you tell us what you will be running that needs 4Gb of RAM?

If you could please comment on these 2 products, or if you have better choices please tell me
    Andrew

Damn! Those are some great prices!
If I had only those two to choose from I'd go with the OCZ.
Myself, I'm a Mushkin fan, it's a little more $$ but at those prices, I may even pick up some more for my new build. I've paid over 200 for mine each time, so 166 is a great price.

  • MSI K8T Neo2 F vs. MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR

    Hi there !
I have an amd Athlon XP 3200+ overheating problem, and contacted the technical support of the shop where the processor and CPU was coming from.
Since they do not have any XP 3200+ to replace mine, they propose me to replace fro free :
    - the XP 3200+ by an AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    - my actual MSI K7N2 delta ILSR by an MSI K8T Neo2 F
    ... and this for free.
Since I do not know this new motherboard that has been proposed, I'd like to have advice on if this is a good deal ?!?
    My actual system has :
    - an Aluminium case with 2x 12cm FAN's
    - 2 IDE hard drives
    - 1 SATA hard drive
    - TWINX Corsair XMS 2x256MB PC 3200L (Extreme low latency)
    - an AGP 8x video card
    - An Antec True Power 480W.
will the new motherboard fit with this configuration?
Many thanks for your input !

Not really, unless you really want to oc your cpu. The K8T boards aren't that good in OC-ing. But still, some is possible and you'll be sure that the board is as steady as a rock.
For a moment I thought you were talking about a Neo board ... but I just saw it's a Neo2. That means Socket 939 -> dual channel RAM.
The only risk you have now, is that your RAM won't work in dual channel with the CPU. But that's not really a board-problem, more a CPU/RAM-controller related problem. But then, it's still a great offer and chances are good that it will work. If you run into any trouble, RAM-related, just flash bios to version 1.9 and you will probably be just fine.

  • Kingston HyperX 2x 512MB + MSI K8T Neo2 + 3200 Winchester = SERIOUS ISSUE

    OK, so thats the spec:
    Microstar K8T Neo2
    Kingston HyperX DDR 2x 512MB PC-400 (KHX3200ULK2/1G) CL2 (producer's timings : 2-2-2-5-1)
AMD 64 3200 Winchester core CPU
And here's the problem, watch out - its gonna get real wierd from now on :D
First setup: Green Slot 1 + Purpule Slot 1 = system dead
    Second: Green 2 + Purp 2 = system dead
Third: Green 2, only one dice installed and heres what happend: It booted (wow!) but.. the system recognizes it as a 256 dice !! I've triple chcecked, its a double sided 512 module! When I insert both modules into green1 and green2 the system sees only 512 megs while it obvioulsly should see 1 GB !
I have totally NO IDEA whats going one. The memory modules had been chcecked on a dual channel Nforce2 with a Barton CPU and it works perfectly at peak timings with the proper memory ammount.
I ask You, what the hell is going on ?

Interestingly enough I have exactly the opposit issue.
With BIOS 3.0 my system detected all the memory.
I updated to 3.2 and now it only detects 1/2 my memory.  I tried all the slot swaping same issue.
I've downgraded to BIOS 3.0 and my system randomly shuts off.

  • K8T-Neo2 system POSTs but no BIOS

    Hello all,
Assembled a new system (specs below). When I attempt to boot it, I get a single short beep (=POST ok, right?)  and the MSI / Core cell logo screen, but can't get to BIOS, let alone open the DVD-ROM tray to load O/S CD.  D-Bracket shows
    RG,    where R=red and G=green
    GG
which the manual translates as:  "Boot Attempt:  This will set low stack and boot via INT 19h."
On the front panel the HDD activity light is on.
    System details:
    Motherboard:  MSI K8T Neo2-F  MS-6702E Ver 1
BIOS Type/Revision:  Unknown, whatever came loaded on a new board. Cleared via the jumper.
CPU:  AMD Athlon 64 3000+, Venice Core, AMD stock heatsink and fan
RAM:  Corsair Value Select; currently one 512MB stick in slot 2 (also tried in slot 1)
    Video card:  Jaton 3DForce FX5700LE
Power Supply:  Antec Smart Power 350W
      +3.3V @ 22A; +5V @ 21A; +12V_sub_1 @ 10A; +12V_sub_2 @ 15A.  +5v/+3.3V max 130W
HD:  Western Digital WD1200JB, 120GB, 8Mb Cache on IDE1 (master).  New drive, nothing on it.
    DVD-ROM:  Lite-On SOHW-1633S on IDE2 (master)
O/S:  Not loaded yet!  Will be Ubuntu linux.
    Things that I have tried:
-Started with both sticks of RAM in slots 1 and 3 and system wouldn't even post.  Removed one stick and I'm at the situation described above.
    -Cleared CMOS
-Disconnected combined floppy / flash card reader drive from cable and power supply
-Swapped keyboards.  Note, no mouse connected.
-Set jumper on HD to master (previously no jumper installed per Western Digital manual for single drive on IDE channel)
Any ideas what the problem is, and how to fix it?  My own best guess is that the Venice core CPU isn't compatible with the BIOS.  I saw that the new BIOS came out recently.  Should I try flashing the latest BIOS in, and if so, how do I do it on a non-functioning system?
    Thanks!

    Situation update:
I tried unplugging the HDD IDE cable, and am now able to get into BIOS (thanks Ui30!).  Unfortunately, there are still some problems.  BIOS fails to auto-detect the HDD as Primary Master and DVD-RW as Secondary Master.  I set them to type 9 per the Western Digital install guide, and CD/DVD-ROM, respectively.  (If someone knows what number to enter for "write precompensation" I have the rest of the info to manually configure the HDD).  I cannot edit the boot sequence in BIOS to include these devices.
On the next boot attempt with HDD reconnected, BIOS reports "Primary Master HDD Error" and "Secondary Mater is ATAPI incompatible".   However, it is trying to read the floppy drive, and I have included it as the 1st item in the boot sequence.  On subsequent boot attempts without the HDD connected, BIOS looses my settings and reverts to "no device" for the Primary Master.
The BIOS is A6702VMS V3.4B2, dated 2/25/05.  Is flashing the most recent BIOS likely to help any of these problems?  I plan to do this eventually anyway for dual channel memory support.  Is bootstrapping it now off the floppy likely to cause problems worse than what I'm facing already?
    D-Bracket still reports
    RG
    GG
I tried limiting the RAM to DDR200, but that didn't seem to do anything over the auto mode.
System gives one short beep during POST, then 2 short beeps, a pause, and 1 more beep when it tries to read the DVD-ROM.  I still can't eject the DVD tray, but since BIOS isn't recognizing the DVD drive, that's not too surprising.
So, what else should I try?  The goal is of course for the system to recognize the DVD-ROM and HDD so I can proceed with loading Ubuntu.
    Thanks again!

  • Windows won't boot after 9.1 flash (K8T Neo2-F)

    Hello,
I tried flashing to 9.1 to be able to use dual channel mode, but when i try to boot windows xp (sp2) won't start. I just get a blank screen.
I changed the bootorder correctly (1: CD 2:PM Maxtor).
I can boot fine from a CD or floppy when i press F11 or change bootorder.
Also when i try to put the Floppy as first bootdevice it just checks the floppydrive for a bootable disk, then halts.
When the CD is the first bootdevice and HD second, i get a few (about 3) weird colored characters on my screen.
When i try to boot from the second harddrive (40GB on primary slave), i get the message 'Missing operating system'.
I've had a similar problem before when i went from 3.3 to 9.1 and changing the LBA mode on the harddrive fixed that but now it doesn't change.
Could this be because the drive was formatted in non-LBA mode (although i doubt that's the case...)?
    Any idea's?
    Thanks.
    System:
    300W power supply (no brand)
    MSI K8T Neo2-F (VIA K8T880)
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Venice)
    Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2 (2x512MB)
    Nvidia Geforce 3 (64mb) AGP
    Maxtor 6Y080L0 (80GB), primary master
    Seagate ST340016A (40GB), primary slave
BenQ CD/DVD writer (16x): secondary master

And what about optimized defaults? We have already found this to be a problem if you don't set that first before setting up the Bios.
I mentioned the PSU as all you listed is watts and that as I say does not help us at all here. However 15a is asking for problems as you have nothing in reserve to operate from is say the PSU gets warm and loses efficiency, which by the way drops fast, or during startup you can have issues as well and may not even know it as this is the time that PSU's are asked for the most power. Also as you have a GF3 vid card, which at the moment is likely saving that PSU from even more stress, you aren't using 12v on that card, but if you upgrade sometime to a better vid card you will certainly go over the power budget that PSU has available and burn it up or maybe more. What I am saying is that we already know from experience here with people having issues that 15a don't cut it.
So now that I have had to repeat that all over again in yet another thread... You shopuld at least have a look at what you already have as needing an upgrade and while hopefully not at the moment as we already know it runs wether well or not, you should considure upgrading it before you do much else with that system. Not that you need to replace it this very moment. I am just making you aware that your already looking at a possible problem at some point there.
