K8T Neo2 Series bios v3.2 released

MSI has posted bios version 3.2 for the K8T Neo2 series of boards.
Update description:-
-Support USB devices under DOS mode.
-Update CPU Microcode (3000+, 3200+, 3500+)
-BIOS reported incorrect CPU temperature.

Hi
Had opposite prob.
ATI radeon is iffy, so I was configing it, there are 2 settings in AGP 66 and 75 MHZ, mine works on 66 by ' default', but if I try 75Mhz, its a reset cmos jumper job.  I assumed the monitor driver is at 66Mhz, and that was the root of problem, as Monitor runs on 4 rigs, have not bothered altering display settings.
cheers

    Hola, (Hi)
(Last week i've had same issue with that board. Update the Bios to 9.2 version according to this forum: 1st. populate first slot with one memory stick and run the Bios update. Tunr off your PC and... 2nd populate slot 2 and 4 and you are ready.)
El único problema que he encontrado con esta BIOS es que la tarjeta de video Gcube 9600XT presenta algunos saltos en los juegos. (The only issue about that bios version it's the GeCube Radeon 9600XT that  JUMPING in all games.)
    BYE!

Since BIOS V3.3 Speedfan (V 4.20) is not able to reduce the rpm of the CPU-Fan (of course connected to CFAN1). Before flashing BIOS 3.2, it worked well (CPU < 40°C = Fan spins with 60%). After flashing BIOS 3.3 (because it resolves the problem with USB legacy and WindowsXP), Speedfan (and Corecenter) do not reduce die fan power. If i stay a while in the BIOS, i can hear, how the fan runs lower and lower. But under windows the fan runs on full power.
    I have this problem too.
I don't have ability to change speed fan for CPU, and then I have 60 degrees on full load.
When I setup in CoreCenter utility to user mode and fan to high speed, as if by miracle on cpu fan speed change from 1600 to 2400,
but now it's on 1600 again and setup in core center dont't make any change on speed fan.
Is it OK in bios 3.2 ? with setup speed on cpu ?

  • Will K8T Neo2-FIR go AMD64 X2 when the time comes?

Since the new X2 is pin 939 compatible can we expect the current K8T Neo2 series to support the X2?  June is right around the corner!

OK I was getting weirded out as you even mention the 890 set. I have been hoping that MSI would build one and actually hoped you knew something I didn't. I don't care much about Dual Core at this stage as I don't want to be someone's beta tester on that one at that price.
Yes from what it looks though the Neo2 should be compatible but the jury would know the verdict until it is tested and we know that it does or does not work or maybe even need a Bios update or some such. There is a lot no one knows yet except for maybe the folks at MSI themselves.

  • K8T Neo2 F v.2.0, how i change vcore?

how i change vcore? I try central brain identifier but not have sucess.
I can use bios from K8T Neo2 Series?

First... Huge caution... Only use a Bios that is made for your board. Any other Bios will scrag your gear and ruin your day. Do not use them.
Second the only reason to ever use VCore is in overclocking. Most CPU's run up very easy without changes in VCore anyways.  Changing VCore without being at a certain level of HTT and having appropriate cooling can kill or at the very least reduce your CPU's lifetime.
If you are overcl;ocking then it is more appropriate to start with posting in the right forum area for overclocking and to provide complete details, specs, and settings and then someone can give a more appropriate answer.

  • S3 sleep state issue (MSI K8T Neo2 FIR)

    Hi,
CPU load is too high (about 80-95%) all the time after the system waked up from S3 sleep state. This is dramatically decreasing system performance.
    My configuration is:
    MSI K8T Neo2 FIR mainboard
    CPU Athlon64 3000+ (Venice rev. E6)
    AGP GeForce 6600GT VGA card
    Creative SB Live! series
    WinXP SP2

    Wild-Robot,
The following link was suggested to me, since I wondered if my problems might have needed a bios update.  The board I have is a 754, thouugh, not a 959, so I would have been suspicious of using this update, anyway.  Then Tiresmoke mentioned that the new update addresses a sleep state (S3) issue.  Might that help your situation?  I would n't know, but it may be worth a look:
MSI Germany published Version 9.3 for K8T Neo2-F(IR):
    http://www.msi-computer.de/produkte/main_idx_view.php?Prod_id=402&Seite=BIOS
That Version cannot yet be found at MST TW or MSI USA.

    Tiresmoke then mentions:
    Well Babblefish translation tells me that this;
Behebt Probleme mit der CPU Auslastung nach dem aufwachen aus dem Standby Modus (S3)
    is saying this;
Problems with the CPU extent of utilization repairs after that wakes up from the Standby mode (S3)
So nasically is has something to do with the S3 standby mode issues. As I do not use any standby mode I have not seen any issues. If you have had any then you may want to give it a try but they don't say they fixed anything else so if you are like me and not having any issues you may want to give this one a pass.
    Hope that helps.

  • [Athlon64] HyperX and Neo2 Series Compatibility?

Hey, I recently got a 1gb set of PC3200(KHX3200AK2/1G)  for my K8T Neo2 Series Board and they don't work.  The system stops at early chipset initialization.  I talked to Kingston and MSI, hey both gave me things to try; changing the CAS latency to 3, Enabling the IT timing; and still no luck. They both said they should work.  Any ideas or things I'm doing wrong?  Cheers

  • K8T-Neo2 (939) mobo + RAM problem

Hi there..sorry if this is covering old ground with this mobo but here goes :(
I've had my MSI board for about a year and a half now running with 1gig(2x512mB) of Hynix PC3200 DDR400 SDRAM.  I've recently decided to upgrade to 2gigs of ram and after fiddling with a 1gig stick that didn't want to work I grabbed another pair of Hynix 512mB sticks.  I've tried all manner of configurations to get all four DIMMs working but to no avail.  When the ram is placed old_old_new_new i get a fail to POST and a top left Green light on the diode with three reds (does that make sense) which means early chipset initialisation according to the manual.
When I place old_new_old_new the machine POSTS, gets to the windows loading screen, then goes black, flicks and stalls.
I've followed the instructions in the manual but it pretty much says I should be able to place the *identical* sticks in all 4 DIMMs without a problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated :( :(
    System:
    MSI K8T-Neo2 939 (BIOS 3.30)
    AMD Athlon64 3000+
    Antec 350W PSU
Hynix PC3200 DDR400 SDRAM (currently works with 2x512mB)
    Hope thats enough information..

    Several things.
You may have the wrong Bios for your CPU core but to determine that we need to know which Bios and CPU core you have.
Your PSU is way to lite to handle the load. You need 24 or more amps on the 12v rail and no 300w will have that.
You can not use three sticks of ram ever on this dual channel board. Actually it is the CPU that forces that limit as the memory controller is inside of the CPU. You can use 1, 2, or 4 sticks but never 3.
Memory should be matched and 4 sticks can force you to run at DDR333 so best to go with 2 - 1gb sticks in any case.
Mixing Memory make and model rarely works as each model will have somewhat different chips and timings. Stay with memory that is match for dual channel to work right.

  • K8t neo2-FSR random restart problem

    Hi.
Yesterday I bought k8t neo2-FSR and AMD64 3000+. System restarting randomly. I found that agp and lan controller sharing same IRQ. I disabled the LAN and onboard audio from bios. Update bios to 3.3. Now there is no IRQ conflict. But it is still restarting randomly. I've checked the voltages wth MSI CORE CENTER. there is no problem.
    Any ideas?

  • K8T Neo2 BIOS flash stops TV card from working

    HI
I've just flashed the BIOS on my K8T Neo2 (6702E) from 3.2 to 9.3 and swapped the processor fron a 3200+ Winchester to a 4200+ X2.  This all went fine and on boot up Windows detected the new chip and installed the multicore HAL.  The computer also redetcted all the other hardware such as graphics sound card ect without problem.  However I also have a Nebula Electronics PCI Digiatal TV card.  When this reinstalled its drivers the computer crashed and rebooted.  All subsequent attempt to reinstall this card result in the same behaviour. I've tried differnt PCI slot and even a complete fresh reinstall of windows but no change, the moment the drivers finish installing it crash's.  Nebula's support told me that there is a recognised incompatibility between there PCI card and the K8T Neo2 in fact they say "the MSI KT8 Neo series will not allow the installation of any Fusion based 878a-based drivers (as used by our DigiTV PCI card). As such, we regret that you cannot use our card with this motherboard".  However I used the card and board together for over a year using the 3.2 BIOS and Winchester.  Nebula now say that they have had lots of customers with the same problem installing there PCI card into this board and think my evidence may suggest that the BIOS is the problem.  They have asked If I would swap back to an earlier BIOS to see if it starts working again.  However I'm a bit reluctant to start messing about Randomly with different BIOS version as the possiblity of a complete disaster will go up.  Anybody any idea why a BIOS change should stop a device working, or any any experience of which BIOS might work??

OK MSI support have responded as follows
    "Hi,
Now we also suggest you flash BIOS to the old version 9.1 to verify, since BIOS 9.1 can support dual core processor. If you don't want to flash BIOS under DOS, it is easy to use another tool to flash BIOS under windows. Please download the tool from the following link:
    ftp/BIOS folder/AWSFI305.
Please download the BIOS from the following link:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=608&kind=1"
I'll have to have a think about this, although I guess it might fix a few other problems that I have.  I assume the windows tool they are referring to is the "live update" If so I thought the general consensus was to avoid using it?

  • K8T Neo2 issues with 2004/9/24 Bios

    Hi there.
I´ve upgraded my k8T Neo2 with the 2004/9/24 an am having now stability issues with my FX 53 due to inproper fan speed control.
I have no clue how the fan control works in this Mobo because my observations are really strange. The CPU is now always reaching 70 C and more under load and the fan control seems not to be able to get it keeped cooler. Tried several CPU coolers but it´s always the same.
If my case is closed, the fan control seems to work and is incrasing the RPMs of my coolers, but having the case opened the RPMs stay at the same level like on Idle.
However, in both situations the temperature is growing up to 70C and more which results in instabilities at this high temps.
So before you ask me. I´ve of course upgraded to the latest Core Center too, but it´s the same if it´s either loaded or not, so it´s the Bios if you ask me.
Also, had not these troubles with the previous Bios.
All I can say now is that the fan speed isn´t regulated by the CPU temperatutre but something else and it´s not calibrated to support hotter running FX CPUs, though the previous Bios obviously was.
Last but not least, Cool´n Quiet is also working now under Win2k, but the Legacy USB support isn´t completely fixed.
I can´t boot neither Win2k nor WInXP with it enabled.

The system was set up last week, so everything is up to date, also the AMD drivers.
However, the Bios date code is in the topic header  (2004/9/24).
It was updated yesterday and since then the CPU isn´t cooled correctly, neither with the Boxed Cooler, nor a Thermaltake Silent Boost or a Zalman CNPS-7000B. No matter the case is closed or opened.
There is also no problem with the Cool´n Quiet driver or the Cool´n Quiet support anymore. There was just a problem under Win2k and the Bios the Mobo came with, but that´s fixed now with the newest Bios, exept the fan control that is working now incorrectly.
Don´t remember right now the date code of the previous Bios, but it was the first release and there the fan control worked correctly, so my Athlon 64 FX 53 didn´t heat up as much as now and got no stability problems, simply because it was always kept below the 70ties.
I don´t think the rest of my rig is of any importance because connecting the coolers to an other surce than the CPU FAN Header and so running them at full speed, doesn´t cause my CPU to become unstable as it doesn´t reach this high temperatures.
That´s the only problem I´m having now. Everything else is rock stable and up to date.
What´s about the Leagcy USB support not allowing me to boot the OS´s, I can live with that though it would be nice to get that fixed too.
So to be more specific. With the previous Bios the fan control kicked in earlier,  way before the temperature reached 70C. Now it kicks in much later. Somwhere in the middle of the 70ties. To late for my FX 53.
So to speak with the previous Bios the fan control kicked in before the CPU reached the critical temperature and incrased the RPMs at least so far, that the CPU was cooled down to the 60ies. Now it´s just keeping the temperature at the reached level (73-74C ).
All I want is to get this fixed or even better to add an option into the Bios to select the temperature where the fan control kicks in and incrases the fan speed to keep the CPU temperature at the level you selected.

  • [Athlon64] Fedora Core 4 install on K8T neo2 with 9.1 BIOS?

I'm seeing a strange error when trying to install Fedora Core 4 on my new Athlon 64 box.  I had numerous problems with the BIOS that was installed when I got it (3.3) - mostly related to dual channel memory configuration, but I was able to get Fedora Core 4 installed.  After upgrading the BIOS to 9.1 I can boot into my installed FC4 and it appears to work well, but the installation crashes when it's trying to mount the initrd RAM disk (I think).  I would like to start with a fresh installation because I don't know what state the current instalation is in since it was installed in the middle of experimentation.  Does anybody have this working?
    My setup is:
    K8T neo2
    Athlon 64 3000+
    2x512 MB RAM
    250GB WD ATA Disk
Like I said, it seems rock stable with current install, so I don't think there's any hardware issues.  I think it's an incompatibility between the FC4 install kernel and the 9.1 BIOS.
    Thanks

Sorry to mention Windows. Most of the folks that I know who run Linux run a Partition with windows as well.
Anyways... The 9.1 Bios is the correct one for you but so far you are the first I have heard from that has tried Linux with that Bios and there well could be a problem. You may want to drop MSI a line as they likely are also unaware of this and it may be a simple fix. However none of the MSI staff read this forum so if you can mail them you will likely get a better responce. Let them know all the pertanent details of course and let us know what you find out as it may help the next person with this problem.

  • K8T-Neo2 system POSTs but no BIOS

    Hello all,
Assembled a new system (specs below). When I attempt to boot it, I get a single short beep (=POST ok, right?)  and the MSI / Core cell logo screen, but can't get to BIOS, let alone open the DVD-ROM tray to load O/S CD.  D-Bracket shows
    RG,    where R=red and G=green
    GG
which the manual translates as:  "Boot Attempt:  This will set low stack and boot via INT 19h."
On the front panel the HDD activity light is on.
    System details:
    Motherboard:  MSI K8T Neo2-F  MS-6702E Ver 1
BIOS Type/Revision:  Unknown, whatever came loaded on a new board. Cleared via the jumper.
CPU:  AMD Athlon 64 3000+, Venice Core, AMD stock heatsink and fan
RAM:  Corsair Value Select; currently one 512MB stick in slot 2 (also tried in slot 1)
    Video card:  Jaton 3DForce FX5700LE
Power Supply:  Antec Smart Power 350W
      +3.3V @ 22A; +5V @ 21A; +12V_sub_1 @ 10A; +12V_sub_2 @ 15A.  +5v/+3.3V max 130W
HD:  Western Digital WD1200JB, 120GB, 8Mb Cache on IDE1 (master).  New drive, nothing on it.
    DVD-ROM:  Lite-On SOHW-1633S on IDE2 (master)
O/S:  Not loaded yet!  Will be Ubuntu linux.
    Things that I have tried:
-Started with both sticks of RAM in slots 1 and 3 and system wouldn't even post.  Removed one stick and I'm at the situation described above.
    -Cleared CMOS
-Disconnected combined floppy / flash card reader drive from cable and power supply
-Swapped keyboards.  Note, no mouse connected.
-Set jumper on HD to master (previously no jumper installed per Western Digital manual for single drive on IDE channel)
Any ideas what the problem is, and how to fix it?  My own best guess is that the Venice core CPU isn't compatible with the BIOS.  I saw that the new BIOS came out recently.  Should I try flashing the latest BIOS in, and if so, how do I do it on a non-functioning system?
    Thanks!

    Situation update:
I tried unplugging the HDD IDE cable, and am now able to get into BIOS (thanks Ui30!).  Unfortunately, there are still some problems.  BIOS fails to auto-detect the HDD as Primary Master and DVD-RW as Secondary Master.  I set them to type 9 per the Western Digital install guide, and CD/DVD-ROM, respectively.  (If someone knows what number to enter for "write precompensation" I have the rest of the info to manually configure the HDD).  I cannot edit the boot sequence in BIOS to include these devices.
On the next boot attempt with HDD reconnected, BIOS reports "Primary Master HDD Error" and "Secondary Mater is ATAPI incompatible".   However, it is trying to read the floppy drive, and I have included it as the 1st item in the boot sequence.  On subsequent boot attempts without the HDD connected, BIOS looses my settings and reverts to "no device" for the Primary Master.
The BIOS is A6702VMS V3.4B2, dated 2/25/05.  Is flashing the most recent BIOS likely to help any of these problems?  I plan to do this eventually anyway for dual channel memory support.  Is bootstrapping it now off the floppy likely to cause problems worse than what I'm facing already?
    D-Bracket still reports
    RG
    GG
I tried limiting the RAM to DDR200, but that didn't seem to do anything over the auto mode.
System gives one short beep during POST, then 2 short beeps, a pause, and 1 more beep when it tries to read the DVD-ROM.  I still can't eject the DVD tray, but since BIOS isn't recognizing the DVD drive, that's not too surprising.
So, what else should I try?  The goal is of course for the system to recognize the DVD-ROM and HDD so I can proceed with loading Ubuntu.
    Thanks again!

  • Problem with my older K8T Neo2-Fir or my bios?

Do I need a Bios upgrade because this board seams only supporting max 256mb of video memory. Doesn`t this motherboard and bios version supporting 512 mb?
What should I doing to be able to change my settings in bios to the correct size for the memory. From 256 to 512 mb

That do NOT setup VGA memory size...

because there no need to be more than 256...
"Is this because this bios are not supporting more than 256mb?"
that setting doesn't affect VGA memory size...(you can't change VGA memory size, its fixed...) for your VGA with 512MB memory you should apply 64MB for AGP aperture size.
