K9 neo v2 seeing 200 gig hd's as 186

I have tried 2 different 200 gig hard drives  and they both show up as 186 gigs.  I am have used a couple of different 64 bit Linux Distros to verify my results.  Is there a way to fix it.  I would suspect hard drive issues but both of the drives I tried reported exactly the same amount of space.  Thanks --Jake

Mike, sorry, but it's fraud.....there is no way on earth that you can tell a computer that 199 715 979 264 bytes = 200GB unless you program it to lie!
Same as Microsoft is doing in Vista 32bit telling people usable memory is 4GB.
I'm sorry, but people should stop telling rubbish and tell the truth.
Don't knock the Vista32 ram thing, its made ram real cheap for the rest of us.

  • I have 200 Gig of "Other"

Before downloading Mt Lion, I had more than 3/4 of my HD available. Now I have near to nothing because I have 200 GIG of Other. What the **** is it and how do I deal with it? The computer is running fine, but I suspect in a while it won't be. Surely there shold be a way to identify this stuff and get rid of it.
I tried Disk Utility and repairing permissions, but it didn't help.

Those are backups of your mobile devices.
I need to get rid of ****, but it doesn't tell me where the **** is. I have all this stuff called "Other" that does not show up as other on my HD with Daisy DIsk.
See The Storage Display for an explanation of what's in "Other."  200 GB sounds like quite a lot, though, so see Where did my Disk Space go?  The steps there may find some large stuff that's hidden.

  • I recently signed on with iCloud. I find that the prompts interrupt my workflow and the costs of this feature for someone with 200 gigs of data is not competitive. I want to cancel the mail, contacts, email, etc. without Removing data from my Mac. How?

I recently signed on for iCloud service, but find that it interrupts my workflow too often (which I know I can reset), but will soon exceed my free storage space. I have 200 gigs of data on my local drive and frankly the cost and benefit of having ICloud access to all of it is not competitive. This particular iCloud offering is overpriced for me. I want to cancel all iCloud services but can't seem to find an easy way to do it without removing the data on my local drive, which would be disaster. Need the communities help. Thanks to all.

Tried this, but unfortunately there was no way to cancel it even when disconnected from the NET. I'm on WIFI which I turned off.
    I keep getting a pop-up that says:
The same message comes up when you want to cancel or remove any of the other iCloud storage functions including Contacts and Emails. This is obviously a scary thought. Why would APPLE program in this type of message? I'm already at 50% of my FREE storage on iCloud after only 2 weeks. There is no way I'm going to be held hostage by this clearly unacceptable "pay or die" programming lapse when I get to 100%. I know APPLE loves making money. Who doesn't, but this makes no sense to this devoted "Since 1984" Apple fan.

  • Mail archive taking up 200+ Gigs!!!

Hi, I use IMAP, and therefore delete the emails a do not want at all and just keep the rest of them on the server. I recently noticed that I was running out of space on my computer and that MAC mail was using 200+ Gigs of space (Yes I have a lot of mail).
So I called Apple and asked if it was okay to delete the archived files and they said yes, it wouldn't delete the files from he server... so I did and that was that, and I had a much "lighter" computer...
However, the very next day Mac Mail started once again to back up the mail box and it took 4 hours to download and archive thousands of emails (and 4 hours of me not using email). So I am back where I started. How do I delete the archive and keep it from doing this in the future.
    Thanks

You mail client is doing what it's supposed to do; retrieve emails you don't have on your Mac. It doesn't matter that you've had them on your Mac before, if they're not there now, the mail client assumes everything on the remote server is new and downloads them again. You're going to have to remove the ones you don't want anymore from the IMAP account on Apple's server or you're just going to keep getting them.
Now I don't know all the ins and outs of IMAP or email servers in general, so maybe there's a way to tell your email program not to retrieve mail already flagged as copied from the remove server. But that's why most everybody sets up their accounts to delete retrieved messages from the remote server. There's no need for them to be there anymore. It should be you making a backup of the emails you need to save on your external hard drive or whatever, not using the remote server as if it will never ever run out of room.

  • Can I add a 200 Gig Drive?

I have a Maxtor 200Gb ATA drive. The install manual says you need to have ATA/133 capability to get the full 200Gb use out of it. Without that capability, you can only "see" up to 128Gb.
That much is true. I had this drive in an older G4 and could only format it up to 128 Gb.
But now I'm thinking of putting it into another G4 that I own, and reformatting it. But how do I find out if THIS G4 has the ATA/133 capability? If it doesn't, I don't want to waste the time backing up all the files, and reformatting it, just to have the same thing anyway.
The System Profiler says I have a bus speed of 133, but I don't know if that's the same as what the install manual is referring to for this drive to be used as a 200 Gb.
Also, if I CAN reformat this drive as a 200Gb drive, will my older computer be able to connect to the drive via my home network? Or can it only do that if it also has the ATA/133 capability?
    Thanks!

This is going to sound like a totally stupid question, but how do I know if it's an MMD, and FW800, a Quicksilver, or something else?I got this system used, and I'm not really sure exactly what it is. The system profiler doesn't seem to list a model number or anything like that to go by.
I've even looked at the apple "how to differentiate between models" part 1 and part 2, and I'm still not sure what this machine is. I have a feeling it's an older G4, the "Digital Audio" version, but how can I be sure? Does the serial number tell me anything?
Sheesh! I've been using macs for over 15 years now, and the fact that I can't even determine the model of my own system makes me feel like an idiot. Help, please!

  • Photoshop CS4 on Vista not seeing 4 gigs of RAM

I am running Photoshop as part of the CS4 Suite on a bootcamped intel mac pro towers using Vista Business with 4 gigs of Memory. We are running in 32 bit mode because of the Apple screw up with Carbon 64 so that both sides of the house windows and mac match.
Photoshop is currently only seeing 1639 MB of the RAM instead of the performance on the Mac of about 3000 MB
So does anyone know what is going on here and how I can get Photoshop and or Vista to recognize most if not all of the RAM installed on these machines.
    Specs are below...
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 11.0 (11.0x20080919 [20080919.r.488 2008/09/19:02:00:00 cutoff; r branch])
    Operating System: Windows Vista 32-bit
    Version: 6.0 Service Pack 1
System architecture: Intel CPU Family:6, Model:7, Stepping:6 with MMX, SSE Integer, SSE FP, SSE2
    Physical processor count: 4
    Processor speed: 2793 MHz
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
    Video Mode: 1680 x 1050 x 4294967296 colors
    Video Card Driver: nvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll
    Driver Version: 7.15.11.8048
    Built-in memory: 2037 MB
    Free memory: 1178 MB
Memory available to Photoshop: 1640 MB
Memory used by Photoshop: 55 %
    Image cache levels: 4
    Application folder: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\
    Temporary file path: C:\Users\MGD\AppData\Local\Temp\
Photoshop scratch has async I/O enabled
    Scratch volume(s):
    C:\, 349.4G, 324.0G free
    Primary Plug-ins folder: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-ins\
    Additional Plug-ins folder: not set

While Jim's suggestion is the only solution to addressing all your system's memory, I am surprised you only have 2037 MB (built-in) memory. Perhaps you are running processes or have devices attached which are eating into your memory by as much as .5 MBs?
I also have 4GBs installed ram. Right off the top, Windows strips 1 GIG to reserve space for Video Cards and other devices. I lose another .5 MB to the system.
This is a well-known limitation of 32-bit systems and like Jim says, there is little to be done except to upgrade to Vista 64. You can remove devices and stop processes and services, but you'll not ever see . . . at very best . . . 3.5 GBs. (Well, you might by using the /PAE switch, but that is more risk than I'm willing to play with.)
This is what my system looks like:
Operating System: Windows Vista (Ultimate) 32-bit
    Version: 6.0 Service Pack 1
System architecture: Intel CPU Family:6, Model:7, Stepping:7 with MMX, SSE Integer, SSE FP, SSE2
    Physical processor count: 4
    Processor speed: 3666 MHz
    Video Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Video Card Renderer: GeForce GTX 280/PCI/SSE2
    OpenGL Drawing: Enabled.
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280
    Video Mode: 1920 x 1200 x 4294967296 colors
    Video Card Driver: nvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll
    Driver Version: 7.15.11.7740
    Built-in memory: 2557 MB
    Free memory: 1281 MB
Memory available to Photoshop: 1640 MB
Memory used by Photoshop: 60 %
    Image cache levels: 4
Thus far, I've not encountered any problem using a 32-bit version. That is partly because I've not done anything with PS or other applications which might cause problems. But, as I do more with the Master Suite I expect that situation to change. Then, I'll upgrade to Vista 64.
I'm kinda keeping my eyes and ears open about Windows 7. Unless I encounter performance problems, I'd rather wait for the next version. According to rumors, the earliest date would be the end of the year, if not early 2010.

  • Accidently disconnected ipod without ejecting, now it only shows recent purchases. I can see 40 gig of original library but its listed as other not audio. Is this retrievable audio data or is it lost. I have no backup what can I do to restore my ipod?

I accidently disconected my ipod from my pc. When I plugged it back up  I only had limited access to my library. I had over 40gb of audio data that now when I go to the summary page of my pod it shows up as other, only the audio that I have recently purchased from itunes is accessible. Is the 40gb retrievable and can some one please tell me step by step what I need to do. My collection took over a year to put together and there is no backup file.

"Other" is the measure of used space on the iPod not taken up by Audio, Video & Photos. This includes the iPod's library and artwork plus any files you may have copied to your iPod in disk mode. The overhead for the library & artwork data is typically 1-2% of the size of the media, e.g. for 1Gb of Audio & Video expect to have around 15mb of "Other". This information is needed for the iPod's operation and cannot be removed.
If you have significantly larger amounts of "Other", not related to files you've intentionally placed on the iPod, then these are probably disconnected copies of your media files or iPod libraries left over from failed sync operations. The only way to recover the space is to do a full restore.
If you have copies of all your media in your iTunes library this isn't a problem, but if you've been manually managing the content then you might need to try to recover the files from it first. See this post by forum regular Zevoneer on transferring files from the iPod to your computer. Some of the tools rely on the iPod having a healthy library however the manual method mentioned towards the end of the post should work regardless.

  • For some reason, When I add my 'My Music' folder to Itunes on my new computer, as Itunes is adding music, It's creating hundreds of playlists from each of my artist/albums...I end up with a ton of playlists (200 gigs worth) How do i stop this?

Essentially, Itunes creates a playlist for each album in my 'my music' folder, resulting in thousands of playlists. Why is this happening all of the sudden? How do I stop this?
    Thanks,
    Brendan

    hi Limnos,
I do not mean the entire ITunes folder but, rather, the contents of the ITunes folder prior to September 29th.  (90% of the media is missing, along with all playlists)  The media that remains says it was added on 9/29 although I know most of it was added many months or even years earlier. There are no playlists listed at all, before or after 9/29.  (I know for certain that I added non-iTunes purchased songs on 10/6 although I had not created playlists for them)
I have my iTunes folder backed up on both an external drive as well as Time Machine.
I run iTunes off of an ITunes folder on my computer rather than from the external, if that's what you mean about how I have it set up.
Is it OK to drag the entire iTunes folder from the external drive onto my laptop's drive and see if that fixes it?
    Thank you for your help!
    Deb

  • How can I add a 200 gig collection containing 1 corrupt song to iTunes...

...given that the program crashes if it encounters a corrupt file during the import process, and fails to save any of the songs it has imported so far?
I seriously hope the answer is not "hold the software's hand as you import the albums one at a time, close the program, and reopen it to save your progress"

I'm not sure if I clarified the situation enough.  The collection of music is already in the iTunes folder.  But iTunes itself only recognizes music once it's built a little database of what is in the iTunes folder. Normally you can do this by Add Folder To Library and selecting multiple folders, or even a folder containing all the music you want to add... and it would all go swimmingly except if it encounters a bad file at any point, it just chokes.  This itself could be worked around, but it'd be a rather tedious process, especially if it turns out there are multiple bad files.

  • Can a BIOS upgrade allow NCQ to be enabled on K8N Neo 2P?

My new hard drive happens to have NCQ capablity, though I didn't buy it for that reason (Maxtor DiamondMax  10).
Is it possible that a future BIOS upgrade would allow nForce 3 mb's to take advantage of NCQ?
I suspect the answer is no, but would just like to hear from someone who knows for sure.

ok then you lucky person, are you using nvidia ide drivers or windows ones, cos if you read it properly i say that windows drivers are fine just not nvidia ide drivers, and you may have diff firmware in your maxtor,, whatever, my 300 gig 16meg died in the msi k8n neo, as did the pata version 250 gig, 2 drives, with 16 meg cache ncq, yet the maxtor 200 gig non ncq drive 8 meg cache is fine in this mobo, as is the hitachi 250 sata drive, this is just using windows drivers.
Hope it keeps working for you which ever way, and ooh do a sear\ch and see how many other people are having trouble with this, and yet you send an email to msi about this and they say they have never heard of anyone having this kind of trouble,.

  • IEEE 1394/Firewire port not seeing DV

    Hey All,
New to this forum, but looking for some help.
I have read just about EVERY previous topic regarding the 1394 issues and cannot find a solution to my problem.
I CAN see the 1394 setting in CMOS, and it is set to "AUTO".  Also, in the Device Manager, I can see "IEEE 1394 Controller" with no IRQ conflicts.  I have updated all of my MSI drivers as well as CMOS up to current.  I have installed the DV drivers that came on my Camcorder's CD as well as programs that are designed to utilize the DV out on the camcorder.  Also, I have reconnected my two 1394 ports on the motherboard in every configuration to check if it was a connection problem.  Tomorrow, I'm gonna go get another cable, but doubt that's it; it's brand new.
I plug in my Digital Camcorder (Canon ZR85) and there is nothing.  Windows makes no notice of it, and when I run the program designed to utilize it, it says that it is not connected.  I have followed the owner's manual to a 'T' for setting it up.
    Here's my info:
    Athlon XP2400
    512 MB RAM
    120Gig drive (SATA)
    Windows XP Pro (SP1a)
    Canon ZR85 MiniDV
4 pin to 4 pin IEEE 1394 Firewire cable
(This MiniDV Camcorder will only connect DV via 1394, not USB 2.0)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Saint

So... seeing that no one responded to my initial request for information to solve this problem and I was not able to find any other helpful forums out there, I decided to do the prudent thing and buy a new motherboard/cpu, etc.
I bought what was supposed to be a top-line mboard, the K8N Neo Platinum with an AMD 3000+ chip, 512 PC3200 Crucial memory, 200 gig SATA HD, and 3dForce 6800.  What I have come to figure out is that my brand new MSI mboard has the EXACT DAMN PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I vowed years ago not to buy another MSI because of previous failures, but I was convinced that they were really producing quality boards now.  Yet again, however, I guess I was fooled.
IF anyone has ANY help they could provide for this problem, I would be incredibly grateful.  Otherwise, I'll have to take this mboard back, and I will NOT EVER buy another MSI product, and will be sure to tell everyone else the same thing.
    Desperately,
    Saint Raj

  • How do I find 100 gigs of "photos"?

When I go to "About this Mac", and then to "Storage" I find that I have nearly 200 gigs of photos on my hard drive. However, all the photos I need/want are under "Pictures", in a few folders. When I "Get Info" about those folders, I find I have about 100 gigs there.
How can I find out where the other 100 gigs are...? I need to clear up space on my harddrive, and am seeking the most efficient way of finding what can be trashed, or stored somewhere else.

  • Can't See External Drive Data

    Hi,
I'm brand new to Macs but loving my new iMac and Airport Extreme with one problem... I keep all my music on an External drive and I can't see anything on the drive. It is plugged into an Airport Extreme through a USB hub. I plugged it into the Airport directly and got same result. Printers plugged into the hub work fine.
If I go into the Airport Utility, I can see the that the hard drive exists and appears to have the sharing settings correct (according to other posts here). I can't see it from my PC's either. If I plug the drive into a PC, the other PC's can see all the music. The external drive is a Maxtor 200 gig One Touch.
    Any suggestions?

Just to respond to the comment above.
Disk formatting and disk access security are two different thing.
An Airport disk can be formatted as HFS+ and both Macs and PCs will be able to access it.
Regarding "Security" which you setup on the Airport Extreme there are two option:
    a) "Secure Disks: With accounts": Here each user on your network will only be able to see and access the folders and files they uploaded to the Airport disk themselves. The disk (as hardware) is shared but data is not shared.
    b) "With a disk password": Here all users on your network will be able to see and access all folders and files on the Airport disk.
I hope this makes things a little more clear.

  • Cannot see new hard drive in disk utility

    Hi-
My original hard drive (less than a year old) when down hard. I bought a new Seagate 160GB SATA drive and I cannot install Tiger (or Panther for that matter) because I have no hard drive recognized in the drive utility. Curiously, I ran Apple basic HW test and mass storage checked out okay...the test just showed passed. Seagate offered no help - I can't see any info regarding jumpers or such... SATA shouldn't need it anyway. My system is completely deviod of 3rd party items - completely stock as shipped.
I then ran the extended hardware test and received error code 2GMC /2/15: built-in.
Sounds like I'm hosed. Whatever it is, it probably took out the original hard drive.

Yes, the same thing happened to me. No, solutions yet.
Were you using Software Update to upgrade?
I've tried most of the repair methods listed here and elsewhere. I think my external hard drive (external La Cie 200 gig) was damaged by the update process. As now it can't be read by my laptop either.
Very angry about this. but i'll turn that anger into another post. Good luck, let me know if you find a way to revive disks while i look for something more powerful than Disk Utility (it bails out of even the Verify Disk process).
