K9A2-CF and AHCI

Hi all
Does anyone know how to set SATA as AHCI. The only options I have in bios v1.6 are RAID or IDE?

I do want to do it.
Why?
It's not faster or anything if that's your goal.

I've read a lot of messages about AHCI or EDI and I'm really none the wiser, basically because whenever I activate AHCI in BIOS my PC boots OK and then slowly "everything" starts to freeze and stop working properly. If I wait too long, I can spend upto 20 minutes waiting for Windows to "log off". I'm running Windows 7 X64 Home Premium, booting off 250Gb MX200 (with the latest firmware) plus three other IDE SATA drives. The MX200 was cloned from an IDE SATA drive (now disconnected and waiting emergency recall!). I changed the "msahci" flag in Registry, then rebooted, set AHCI in the BIOS, and booted to get the AHCI drivers installed, all before installing the SSD. Installing and cloning went well and I was really please, but then the freezing started! Eventually, I had to physically power the PC down, went into BIOS and reset to IDE mode. There were then a few minutes of panic whilst I tried to get Windows to boot, eventually OK. SO, I'm now running in IDE mode and everything is fine. But every thing says I should be using AHCI mode. To try and discover which mode is best, I've run AS SSD tests under IDE and AHCI (rebooting hurriedly before the freeze set in). Does anybody understand what the figures mean? (Their web site is in German and even translated means little to me) My instinct is that IDE figures look better, apart from the "Score" where AHCI is very much higher; after that all IDE figures are better except for Access/Write. Any suggestions. Baffled.

Sorry. Definitely meant IDE HDDs! All drives are plugged into SATA ports (block of six) on the motherboard. The MX200 is on Port 1 (first), followed by the other three IDE HDDs on Ports 2 to 4, plus the CD-R/W on Port 6. This is the results obtained by AS SSD and I've typed alongside them the figures I got for "pure" IDE. I took screen snapshots but I can't paste the images in.  AS SSD Benchmark 1.8.5636.37293

  • Satellite U400-183 - Need Recovery DVD and AHCI drivers

    Hi there,
I tried to reinstall Win Vista Home Premium to my Satellite U400-183. I used a Win OS DVD that came with my other Notebook from an other manufacture and the Key which came with my Toshiba notebook. Everything worked just fine but in certain areas of Windows still are some specific settings from the other manufacture. Now is there a possibility to get a Windows Vista DVD from Toshiba?
Another question is where I can get the AHCI drivers. There is only a exe file on the support site which i can't use while installing Windows. There have to be these .sys files but I can't find them on the Toshiba site, so I had to install Windows in compatibility mode.
    THX in advance!
PS: Sorry for my bad english, I'm from Germany...

    Hi!
A new recovery DVD you can get from your local ASP (authorized service provider).
Or you order a DVD from Toshiba directly:
    https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
The AHCI drivers or lets say Intel Storage Manager you can download from the Toshiba website as you already said.
The .exe file you must extract to use it during the installation but with the recovery disk you dont need them.
Please read the readme file in from the Storage Manager, there is an example how to extract it. Use he command line
    For example: -A -A -PC:\<path>

  • M6-k125dx Sleekbook and AHCI mode

I just updated to a Samsung 840 Evo 250 GIG drive.  For what ever reasons the SSD is only running in IDE mode. When I look in the bios I dont have option to change from RAID to AHCI to IDE, etc. It just says "non raid".
Both the Intel driver and the Samsung app tell me I am not running in AHCI mode. This is causing a slight degradation in performance.
How can I get into AHCI mode?
Here is a screenshot of the Samsung App: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/31360541/Stuff/Samsung-SSD.png

  • H61M-E33 and AHCI

    Hello,
I recently grabbed one of the MSi H61M-E33 mainboards from the Microcenter deal a few days back.  Despite the information I see online, and in the board's user manual, it doesn't appear to have AHCI support.  Does anyone know if MSi is looking into this?  I gave them a call, but they just had me update the BIOS, which did nothing.
In UEFI, it even describes each of the settings like AHCI was supposed to be an option, but it's just not there.  It doesn't look like I'm alone, either.  I see a couple mentions of this around the internet, but I didn't see anything here so I thought I'd ask.
    Thanks!

Might be some information concerning that in this thread; https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=146755.0
Interesting.  I didn't see that thread because it's on a different board.  So two of MSi's H61 boards are exhibiting this problem.  I do see they share the same firmware, and looking around online there are rumors that H61MU-E35 has a UEFI update on the way to fix the issue.
    Hopefully this gets corrected soon.

  • H61M-P23 and AHCI

I have purchase H61M-P23 from Microcenter. According to the documentation, this board should have AHCI support. However, in BIOS (version 17), I don't see that option. All I see is IDE and DISABLE. I know other boards like H61M-E33 had same problem and MSI released a beta BIOS. Not sure if there is a beta BIOS for H61M-P23 also. Please help. Thanks.

Your welcome. Did you get it installed & AHCI is showing up ok now?
No, it totally screwed up. I used the same Beta to update H61M-E33 which worked fine. I did not read the thread completely. The beta BIOS is NOT for H61M-P23. I did not read the thread and updated the BIOS!!!! Now after the BIOS upgrade, I don't get video. Looks like the motherboard is trying to use the integrated video, but H61M-P23 does not have a integrated video!!
    Any advice please?

  • Satellite P100-239 and AHCI for the use of SSD

Anyone knows if there is a way to turn AHCI In BIOS or maybe Toshiba can answer if they are going to make it possible?
Why I ask is because I've installed an 80GB Corsair Force SSD disk and it will be a lot faster if i could turn on AHCI.
    Ramnes

I am 100% sure that Toshiba will not support old notebooks with newest hardware so I dont think it will be offered new BIOS update or something similar.
Fact is that this old notebook model works well with compatible HDDs and supported operating system.
Every month Toshiba offers new notebooks with new hardware and, just in Europe, on 18 European languages. I believe you can imagine how much work they have to support all stuff so I dont think they will spent time and money for old notebook models.
I also have older Satellite. It is 4 years old. I cannot expect full support for some non-compatible HDDs or anything similar.

  • X100e and AHCI

    Hi,
Our company has purchase a number of X100e laptops.
    We run Windows XP SP3.
In order to run them in XP we have to set the Config > Serial ATA section of the BIOS to compatibility mode otherwise we get a blue screen.
With previous incarnations of Lenovo laptops (running Intel chips) we have installed the relevant Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver post OS installation. This allows the Serial ATA setting to be set to AHCI.
With the X100e, however, running an AMD chip it looks like the equivalent driver (AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Driver) can only be installed when the OS is installed via floppy i.e. not post OS install.
Trouble is that we have a company OS ghost image with various company settings built in to it, so I really need a clever way of installing this driver after the installation of the OS.
Anyone know whether this is possible?
Anyone know what performance issues running in Compatibilty mode as opposed to the out of the box AHCI mode might be?
    Many thanks

The 100 is no different from any other modern PC here.
If youhave installed in IDE mode (aka compatibility) you have to switche the os settings before chenge the bios one to AHCI.
Then you can install the AMD AHCI drivers.
To switch from ide to AHCI you have to change the registry value
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
    from 3 to 0
Then shut down the PC, enter the bios and change the value from compatibility to ahci

  • Intel 6 series/C200 Storage controller and AHCI

    Hi All,
I have a T420s with the Intel 6 series/C200 storage controller and an Intel 160Gb SSD.
Its currently configured to use IDE. I've been reading that switching to AHCI will improve the performance.
What i haven't been able to figure out is, does this storage controller support AHCI?

I could not agree more with you Jaco,
Since it is working very well, I should not make any further change. Thanks for your kind note.
I only wanted to have more supporting comments about the referred issue in order to proceed. Particularly from HP.
    Thanks again Jaco....

  • K9A2 Crossfire and Ram question

I have a K9A2 platinum with an AMD phenom 9850BE rig running crossfire.
    The specs are...
    K9A2 Platinum
    Phenom 9850 Black
Two Asus 3870 Top (these are in the first and 3rd PCIE slots down, the manual said these were the x16)
    4GB G.Skill ddr2 1066 (These are in the 3rd and 4th slot, only running at 800)
    Seagate Barracuda 7200 250GB Sata 3
    Vista 64 with SP1 and DX 10.
    1) Am I running the cards in the correct slots for crossfire? I'm currently populating the the pxe1 and pxe4 slots. (I might be butchering the actual names of those slots.)
    2) Catalyst 8.5 says that crossfire is enabled. 3dmark vantage score was 87xx, is this low?
      - After installing SP1 and DX 10.1 3dmark vantage is all messed up. Displays funky colors.
    3) I tried using the auto ram timings and increasing the voltage to achieve 1066 from 800. When I did this my timings went from 5-5-5-15 to 5-5-7-20, or something along these lines. Is this normal? Is there a way to manually adjust this memory to achieve the correct speed and timings?
    4) 3dmark06 gave a score of 13xxx with crossfire. I disabled crossfire from the catalyst control panel and re-ran the test and hit 10xxx. Both of these scores seem low, can anyone verify.
Thanks for your help and input.

Ok, I fixed the ram and did a little research so I was able to perform the manual timings.
Under the Cell menu I changed the DRAM Timing Mode from auto to both and set the correct timings for my memory, 5-5-5-15.
I made sure the voltage was upped to 2.1 as per some suggestions on NewEgg but memory speed was still around 850ish. I had to change the FSB/Memory ratio from auto to the last setting, something like 2:2.33? Once I did this I saw the memory speed up to the 1066 that I was looking for.
If I now increase the FSB the memory overclocks even further, this makes sense because it's a ratio. What am I missing? I want to be able to clock my phenom up to around 2.7-2.8 and have the memory @ 1066. How can I make the memory run at 1066 without utilizing the FSB/Mem ratio.
Thanks for your help and getting me this far!

  • FM2-A75MA-E35 and AHCI on XP?

Does anyone know the proper way to get AHCI working with the A55? I'm on XP and the default install from Live Update as far as I can tell didn't install any support for AHCI and I'm stuck on IDE. There are older drivers around the Net for AHCI and XP but I'm not sure they work with the A55.

    It looks like...yes
one is chipset the other VGA.
Sometimes you will see a download that might not be for your model, but it's listed. If you install an update like these and it is not a fit for your board/features or you have a newer version already installed it will open a box for you to know that, it is either not for yours or a different version is installed.
    Good Luck.

  • Problems with Pioneer burners and AHCI mode on P35 Neo2-FR (ICH9R)

Well, I did my best to make my two Pioneer SATA DVR-215s work with ICH9R in AHCI mode (changed cables, ports, power supplies, rails, set AHCI SATA ports to none in BIOS, upgraded to latest BIOS and Intel drivers) but nothing seems to solve the issue that burners just do not work properly when Intel controller is in AHCI mode. If ICH9R is set to IDE mode, everything is working properly. If not - burns fail, randomly stop, burners disappear from explorer and device manager with: The device 'PIONEER DVD-RW  DVR-215 ATA Device (...) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal. and The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort7, did not respond within the timeout period. Now my question is : is this a know issuse with ICH9R - or is this specific to Neo2-F(I)R (guess that it goes for Platinum as they share BIOS) or is it Pioneer fault? Firmware is updated tol atest...
    My spec:

    4x1 GB DDR2 800 Geil Ultra 4-4-4-12@2V
    Chieftec 450W
    Seagate 320 GB
    XFX 8600GT
    edit: forgot - Vista Ultimate SP1 32bit
    etc...
    Someone?

Yes, the ICHxR series have had issues in the past.  I thought they fixed that on the newer series by making ports 5-6 non-AHCI.  I have had issues with it booting for installing windows, but once in windows, it seems to work fine for me.  Luck me though, my board has the JMicron controller ports (usually blue or an off color).  if you have an off color SATA port, that port will be for optical drives or other devices.
also, I see you only list one HD.  are you runing RAID?  if not I don't think you gain any advantage with AHCI.  AHCI is more for RAID setups and you'll need drivers to run them.  regular IDE mode needs no extra drivers and usually perform better as the AHCI driver overhead usually puts an extra load on the drives and slows it back down.
If you're unsure, re-check the owners manual.  it often covers odd setup configurations in there.

  • K9A2 Platinum and 4 Memory Modules

    Hey gang, the saga continues.
    BIOS 1.2
With Vista Enterprise x64 SP1 RC and 4x DDR2-800 OCZ modules (see my signature) my system will POST but not boot properly (even in safe mode!) at either 3-4-4-15-2T-2.4V or at 5-5-5-15-2T-2.4V.  It gets almost to the point where it wants to bring up the vista logo after loading all the drivers however then the screen resets to "no signal" and the system reboots from POST.
I removed 2 of the memory modules, leaving 2 in the slots closest to the CPU.  At 3-4-4-15-2T-2.4V (which is what the memory is rated for) the ATI kernel driver gets a page fault during load, blue screen, memory dump.  However at 5-5-5-15-2T-2.4V the system is stable.  I expected 2 memory modules to work at the rated speed of the memory.  I expected 4 memory modules to work at looser timings.  I'll try 5-5-5-18-2T-2.4V with 4 modules just to see.
I'm getting 8GB/s throughput in Sandra XII at 5-5-5-15-2T-2.4V.
With BIOS P.0D I was getting 9.5GB/s at 5-5-5-18-2T-2.3V with the mushkin XP8500.
Maybe P.0D doesn't have the erratum in it, and tighter memory controller timings.
Oh and the Sandra disk benchmark test posted a RAID0 score of 140.5 MB/s throughput.  WD360JD was 55 MB/s.  I need to run a better benchmark though.  I bought EVEREST Personal Ultimate, maybe it'll have something more useful in it.  I can tell you the EVEREST benchmarks for memory performance on my system absolutely suck.  They're pinning it around midrange in all the tests. :<  I cannot run HDTach on this system because it doesn't recognize me as an Administrator (although I am one).
I have my final water cooling parts arriving on Wednesday - an inline temperature sensor which will hang right off the egress on the video card stack, for accurate CPU + video card heat levels on the liquid for the fan control.
At idle this system keeps the CPU at 99F temp, HD at 105F (I removed the front case fan, it would probably be cooler with it in there, but slightly noisier).  Memory therefore is probably around 102F.  I haven't gotten to stress testing yet because of the stability issues.
I also am trying Catalyst 8.1 beta to see if CrossFireX will work.
** At least the system is POSTing BOOTing **

AaronYuri: Using Vista Enterprise x64 SP1 RC, no fixes come up through Windows Update, I assume I have everything... point me to something that wouldn't be in the service pack RC?
Quad: So you think with an X2 CPU this wouldn't be a problem, but the Phenom is inferior?
Russ: I'm using fixed memory voltage as specified in the test.  2.4V and 2.1V.  Both of which should have worked.  Since I can do DDR2-800 2x 3-4-4-15-1T-2.4V stable (running Prime95 now...), I would expect to be able to do DDR2-533 5-5-5-18-2T-2.1V.  Also this board originally posted with the memory at DDR2-1066 5-7-7-20-2T-2.4V so I know the memory isn't the issue.
One additional comment I would like to add to this discussion is that with all 4 memory modules loaded I can install the Vista operating system.  It is only after I reboot, after the initial install, that it won't complete the boot cycle any longer.  So the install boot works (which is probably a limited kernel?) but the real thing won't work.
As for DDR2-400 I might give it a try but I have to say if that's the only way I could do 4gb memory, I wouldn't do it.
Hello, I have the SAME sort of problems except with the K9A Platinum
Here is the fix/update they are talking about
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777/en-us
I have applied it and did not work for me. You are getting a BSOD likely. Boot to 2gb, go to System Settings under Control Panel. Click Advanced Setting on the left. Then click Settings button under Startup and recovery. UN-check automatically restart. You may then see the BSOD when you try booting with 4gb again.
I a using latest bios on my MSIK9A and I still cannot boot Windows to 4gb.
I have read thru all 20 pages here:
    http://forums.microsoft.com/technet/showpost.aspx?postid=1292561&siteid=17&sb=0&d=1&at=7&ft=11&tf=0&pageid=10
Even though I do not run 64bit, this still seems to be a very common problem with running 4gb on 32bit and 64bit. It is not just a Windows problem. I have read Linux has exhibited this as well.
I even did a clean install of Vista on a spare drive last night with only 2gb installed. I then updated all drivers in order and then applied MS Hotfix I linked to above. I shutdown, put in all 4gb and BAM!! same exact BSOD. I have tried setting timings to many different settings. I have tried all "suggested fixes" to no avail. All 4gb of Memory all passes memtest86 v1.7 scans. Ran 17 passes overnight and all passed.

  • K9A2 CF and Mofset cooler

Hello, is it possible to install thermalright HR-09 mofset cooler to this board?
if no, what can I install?
    http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/mosfet/product_mosfet_cooler_hr09.htm?art=MTQyMywxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==

I have a thread on this over at Xtremesystems Forums - I measured the HR-09 and I don't think it will fit. There are two mounting holes in my MB but I could not find any waterblocks or coolers (yet). I have used the Microcool Mosfet sinks on mine - build is almost complete (leak tested on Sunday).
PS - I have run my Phenom with no coolers on mosfets to bench test and did not have any problems but I did not measure temps as it was out of case.
