K9A2 CF Chipset and Mosfet cooling

Decided to start my own thread to track my attempt to improve the chipset and mosfet cooling on my MB.
Can't post pics here, so see XS thread @ http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=172579
Summary:
1: will use Microcool Mosfet Heatsinks on the mosfets (close to rear exhaust 120mm fan)
2: replace NB (MSI) heatsink with Zalman NB47 (big blue) (80mm fan blowing over it)
3: replace SB (MSI) heatsink with Zalman NB32 (small gold) (bottom mounted radiator with 2x120mm fans blows up onto it).
PS - I was amazed at how small the 790X and SB600 chips are (under big but flimsy heatsinks) and the contact (thermal pads) were not that good.
Did also consider using my (old) Polarflo TT Chipset waterblock on NB (which will fit with a bit of modding as it is so close to PCIe slot) but then tubing between CPU-NB-GPU would be really tight.
Any ideas would be most welcome as I am building it up this week/weekend.

Attached to plasic? Won't do much good.
Don't you understand that if manufacturers wanted cooling that they would supply it with a heat-conducting surface.....
Mostfets, Rams etc....they don't have such....so sticking a heatsink to it does nothing.
Plastic, Ceramic etc are heat isolating materials....and you try to cool that?

  • MSI Z87 MPower Max-Chipset cooler-Passive,Mosfet cooler-Passive : what is that?

    MSI Z87 MPower Max
    specs are :
    Chipset cooler-Passive,
    Mosfet cooler-Passive
What does that mean for me as a buyer? is this coin for me?
    thank u guys for help.

i found on this link those specs : http://uk.hardware.info/productinfo/186919/msi-z87-mpower-max#tab:specifications
    tab : Cooling / Overclocking
Other boards have active cooling, so i dont know what exactly passive means for me. Asking so i dont buy cooler which is not good for board.

  • Mosfet cooling - necessary?

Im talking about the 865PE Neo2 boards here - when you do heavy overclocking. Would it help to put some heatsinks onto (or around them) the mosfets? Or can they handle the higher load? Some people said that the "unstable" v-core would disappear with cooled mosfets.
Is it worth the money and time, or just a phantasm by some overclocking nerds?

  • MSI X58M Mosfet Cooling

Anybody with this board find a Mosfet cooler that will fit?
I am thinking about going with Enzotech mini-heatsinks and 2 way tape unless there is something better out there.

hi PClark99 i have the same mother as you, and want to ask you,
if is really necesary change or add an extra cooling for the Mosfet or is just in case of extreme oc?
Which will be a proper temperature for 24/7?
    Thanks so much!
I am not sure if its really necessary.  Every other i7 matx board has some sort of cooling on them.  I just thought it would be good to see if there was something out there easy to install.

I used the enzotech mini copper sinks and they are working fine for my i7 @ 3.6 (1.22vcore).  I attribute some of the effectiveness to my cpu cooler which has a large fan that kind of blows over the top of that area as well though.  I don't think those passive sinks would be as effective without air movement around them.
I looked exhaustively and the best option I could see was the enzotech mini sinks on newegg.  How many did you end up putting on the board?  Did you use a full 18 sinks?

  • [MOVED] H55 chipset and KMS with HDMI/VGA

I recently purchased a Shuttle SH55J2. As there seems to be KMS issues with the Auburndale chipset and the VGA output (output is wavey with KMS on, no X with KMS off), I am attempting to get the HDMI output working with my monitor. I am using a Dell E248WFP which has VGA and DVI input. I am using an HDMI cable with an HDMI-DVI converter.
The problem is the monitor comes up with screen with green background and white text starting from bios all the way through boot to login. I have attempted changing the colorspace of the monitor from RGB to YPbPr, but it simply changes the color of the background. Any clues on how to fix this?
New: I've bought a new hdmi capable monitor. However, with KMS enabled using HDMI->HDMI, the monitor receives no signal, while the HDMI->DVI still has the color problems. With KMS off, HDMI->HDMI works and HDMI->DVI has no signal. So now it appears the KMS is the real issue.
Note: This discussion has been moved to the intel-gfx mailing list: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/i … 08315.html

It's likely that the laptop's attempting to output audio through the HDMI as well. Have you tried this? Right-click on the speaker icon in the notification area near the clock (in Desktop mode) and select "Playback devices." What's listed there, and what has the green check mark? Try selecting your speakers and clicking "Set Default."

  • Neo4 Plat CPU and VGA cooling

Just wanted to get a few opinions on good and quiet cooling for my CPU and Vid card.
Neo4 Plat board; AMD Athlon 64 3500+ CPU
    GeForce 6800 Ultra
I've read a lot of reviews and it seems that Zalman is the quietest way to go.
    VF700-AlCu for Vid card
    and
    CNPS7000-AlCu for CPU
Is anyone using this setup, can you post your opinions?
    Other recommendations?
    Thanks.

    Agree with that GPU cooler
I used to have a Arctic silencer, but the fan is only balanced @100% (I tested 3), therfore to noisy 4 my taste. I put the Zalman on the NBfan connector, and the NB fan on a handy 5v connector that came with the Zalman.
This way corecenter manages the fan speed, which is handy cus the Zalman also blows over the HTT hub hsf 8)
Best cooler 4 ur board is the thermalright XP90, according to this list:
    http://www.overclockers.com/articles373/p4sum.asp
Get a Vantec Stealth or Panaflo fan to mount on it. @stock u should be able to keep it round 1000rpm.

  • Maxtor ATA133, Promise 20378 chipset and IDE 3

When my 865PE FIS2R RMA mobo arrives I want to use a Maxtor 120 gig hd (ATA 133) on IDE3.  Looking through the manual on pg 2-20 it mentions Promise 20378 chipset and IDE3 on the same page.  Can I just directly hook the hd to IDE 3 or do I have to load Promise 20378 chipset drivers from a floppy?  I believe I have to select IDE 3 through the BIOS as the first boot device, is there anything else I need to do?
Just trying to expedite getting my system up and running, any input appreciated!

    Hi braveheart,
I have just purchased 2x DiamondMax Plus9 160GB SATA150 drives, I do not want them in any kind of raid, just as two large hard disks. And I am having endless problems with windows XP remaining stable and the M875P motherboard. It could be something else not quite right, like memory or graphics but my hunch is related to the hard disks. Ive ran XP before in the past no probs and never had blue screens with UNMOUNTABLE_Boot_Volumes! and even windows repair failing to scan disks! I have managed to install XP onto them and use it for say 5 hours but it has crashed now 5 times seriously and required a rebuild. Im tempted to switch to 2 non sata hard disks like Samsung  SpinPoint P80 160GB UDMA133 as Im sure the problem is hard disk related. Although I will be welcome to suggestions..
There is not much out there on google about it, the first probs I saw were posted here in the important posts section, the unofficial FAQs
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/service/forum/index.php?threadid=21469&sid=
It mentions a fix in bios 1.9, but when is this coming???
I don`t think you will need to install any drivers if your not going to use it an raid formation
    cheers

  • New Intel Chipset and SATA3 mSATA SSDs

Since the 4th generation Intel processors are coming, that means they'll probably support the 4th generation chipsets, QM87 in particular for us.
Since the QM87 chipset supports four SATA3 lanes, I hope this means I'll be able to run an mSATA SSD at SATA3 speeds instead of SATA2.
The speed differences are negligible for humans, but it would be nice to get what I paid for.

There are existing systems with 6 Gbps mSATA ports. The port in the W530 is only 3 Gbps because there is a limit of two 6 Gbps SATA lanes in the QM77 chipset, and Lenovo thought they would be better used for the 2.5" bay and the Ultrabay. Adding more 6 Gbps SATA lanes allows for the mSATA port in the existing design to use 6 Gbps SATA.
NGFF/M.2 supports SATA Express (12 Gbps) as well as 6 Gbps SATA, but will of course require an additional port in the notebook due to the different form factor.

  • Intel 6 Chipset and warranty

I bought a dv7-4295us model #XZ045UA in April of 2011 and it came with the faulty chipset. I returned in October of 2011 for repair and now I have to send it back again because "HP's Fix" wasn't a permanent fix. So what I would like to know is what HP is going to do about it if this fix isn't a lifetime solution. I believe since there is a problem with the chipset and HP and Intel are fully aware of this I think that HP should at the very minimum include an additional one year warranty to protect the consumer against this faulty chipset. That would speak volumes to me as a consumer they have already accepted there was a problem with the hardware now in order to maintain consumer confidence in their product they should offer the additional warranty at no charge to the original owner of the problematic laptop. They say a 17" laptop is supposed to be a desktop replacement if it keeps burning up then how can that be possible?

HP offers a 90-Day repair warranty which covers any issue related to what it's been repaired for.  If you're not comfortable with that I would suggest you purchase an extended warranty to ensure that you have coverage for an additional year or longer.
The Intel Chipset issue was corrected a long time ago, so there should be no problems in design and functionality with any replacement motherboard.
