K9A2 Platinum SATA Raid driver floppy

Made the disk per directions. Choices in winXP install are X64 & X86. Manual says should be X32 & X64. I tried 86, XP installed, but wont boot. Is there more needed than what the manual states on the floppy? What drivers do you use for the promise raid. I have raid enabled. Plugged into sata 1 & 2. Using 2 raptors. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Got it working. Not sure which setting fixed it though.

  • K9A2 Platinum Sata Raid Problems

I could not get my 2 500 gb seagate 7200.11 drives to work on the sb600 raid controller, in raid 1 (set to raid mode in bios).  I'd set it up and it would remain functional until I formatted it and put stuff on it. Then when I restarted, it says critical and can't locate the second drive, but it shows up in the list of definable drives.  My older 200 gb seagates 7200.9 in the same setup do not have this problem.  I finally got my 500s working by hooking them up to the promise controller instead.  (Although no longer a current problem, I wouldn't mind knowing what would cause this for future occasions.)
My new problem is, I had to unhook all but the drive I wanted to install Windows XP on (A separate 120 JBOD configured drive) so I could get it to be C:/.  This all went fine.  However when I hooked up the 500s again, Windows XP would not boot, the screen just stayed black, with them not hooked up, it boots just fine, with the 200s as well.  When running the Windows XP setup again, the 500s appear as C:/ instead of the 120 in the disk select screen of the install.  It's like the 500s took over the drive letter when they are hooked up and thus can't load.  Is there some way to stop it from doing this or am I completely off on this.
    My computer spec is:
    K9A2 Platinum
    AMD X2 6000
    2*2gb OCZ PC6400
    ATI Radeon 3870
    700 Watt OCZ PSU
Update: Installing XP ignoring the fact its not C: fails.  It copies all the files onto it, then after restarting I get a black screen.
Another Update: On a whim I tried disabling the SB600 raid and set it to AHCI instead as I read that other people were having problems with it and it all works perfectly now.  It's too bad this doesn't work, but I'll just put the 200s back in my old computer instead.

I'm having the exact same problem you did. Same Mobo. Except I started off with Promise RAID 1 because when I tried using SB600 RAID, my SATA DVD drive would not function in Vista Ultimate x64. So I had my Raid 1 configured on Promise T3 with BIOS 2.8.1030.0021 using 2 320GB drives. One of them Seagate, one WD, both 3GB/s transfer, only difference was that Seagate has 16MB cache, while the WD has 8MB. But both drives worked fine in the array for some time, and then after doing some updates from Windows Updates now the Raid config shows that encountered a critial status, "A disk member of an array has failed or is not responding", "Problem is detected with Array : 1". And when I go to the see the Array status it shows the Seagate drive on ID channel 1, but for the 2nd drive it shows questions marks all the way through the item line. I checked the drive, it seems fine. And even when I go to define a second Array, it shows the WD available on channel ID 3. So it definitely see both drives, but how do I re-add that WD drive that it doesn't see to my earlier defined array without loosing data on my Seagate drive?

  • Nforce3 raid sata raid driver

    Hi everyone...
I have a k7n2  Delta 2 board and have installed everything...but noticed the Sata Raid driver floppy that came with it has become corrupted (probably by me)
Anyway...does anyone know where I can download any Nforce3 sata raid drives from the web (that are reliable)
I am running windows XP Pro
PS. can anyone also tell me is their a certain way to install them and if it would matter which version number to install (sorry just a bit of a computer newbie)
    thanks in advance

menace, why did you start a new post when this topic had your answers? i removed your other topic
as sharp says, copy the contents of the IDE folder to a floppy (leaving out the Raidtool sub-folder). note that if you are only using a single SATA drive, you do not need this floppy to install windows, it is only if you are installing onto a RAID array

  • Bad Raid Driver Floppy?

    Hey everyone
So i followed Rsheppicks guide for multiple drive arrays and it seemed to work. I got to the point where i had to hit F6 and put in the nvidia raid driver floppy disk in. THen i hit S and it told me to put in the manufacturer supplied ardware support disk in. I put the floppy in and hit enter. However for some reason it wont read the floppy no matter how much i try. ive had this filoppy drive for about a year and it has always worked before. So i dont know whether the floppy drive/mobo combo is one of those unfortunate ones or perhaps the floppy is bad?....i dont know. BTW the floppy drive is that Sony MPF 920 or whatever

Is the avtivity light on the floppy on all the time?  If so, you hooked up your floppy drive backward... reverse the cable now.  I did the same thing on my setup, the Sony drive I have will allow you to hookup the cable either way.  If not, I also had a corrupt NVRaid floppy (took me awhile to figure out both were the problem), just download the correct installs from MSI's website here and make sure your floppy is connected properly... you should have no problems after that.  Hope this helps, peace.

  • P965 Platinum SATA RAID drivers to slipstream

    Hey guys,
Once in a while I slipstream SATA and SATA RAID drivers into my WinXP Pro setup cd, so I will not need a floppy on any system. My setup cd now contains drivers for VIA VT8237, nForce3, Promise 20378 and Promise 20579 controllers. I would like to add Intel ICH8R drivers...
I know how to do it, that's not the issue. But on MSI's download section for my P965 Platinum I can find two drivers:
Which one is to be used to setup RAID arrays on the ICH8R? Both contain contents for a floppy, both folders and files look the same. It's just that they differ in size, so I'm not sure which one I need. Do I need to slipstream both drivers to setup a RAID 0, 1 or 5 array?
    Thnx in advance...

Quote from: Quadrifoglio Verde on 03-March-07, 23:47:11
Alright, thanks. Why the first one and not the second one? Is there a difference between the two? I can not slipstream both, as they are both named "iastor.sys"...
"I can not slipstream both, as they are both named "iastor.sys"..."
you no need to put them both, only one of them.
they are the same version, all files match except iastor.sys size (in same time both iastor.sys are "same version" too.. 6.0.0.1022)
"Why the first one and not the second one?"
just guess, because MSI put them as ICH8R SATA RAID Driver as primary. if you have any problems you can try drivers from second achieve.

  • Neo 2 Platinum ide raid driver

    Hello everyone
I have a K8N Neo 2 Platinum mainboard and I want to set up 2 times 160 gig ide in raid 0 with the onboard ide raid controller.
Xp will be installed on it. I know normally you need to have an raid driver to install the raid controller you want to use. I looked on the cd and the driver site of msi but the only driver I found was the SATA raid driver. Does this mean that the Windows XP setup doens't need an ide RAID driver at all or accept it with the usual driver when you hit f6 ?
    waiting for your reply

    • NV RAID (Software)
    • Supports up to 4 SATA & 2 ATA133 Hard drives
    - RAID O or 1, 0+1, JBOD is supported
    - RAID function work w/ATA133 + SATA H/D or 2 SATA H/D
So - Yes, it should work just load the drivers with F6 after you select the disks to RAID using F10 at boot.

  • K9A2 Platinum SB600 RAID & SATA DVD

    Quick question for you.
    I have the K9A2 Platinum (V1) MS-7376 board.
Original setup has 2 drives on SATA ports 1/2 in a RAID 1/Mirror config - plus an additional HDD and DVD-Writer on PATA (Cable Select).
The original DVD-Writer has given it's all, and was removed and "buried with honor".
I'm replacing with a BluRAY SATA.
From what I've read, I can't fire up the PROMISE Controller (Ports 5/6) because that will conflict with the SB600 Raid.
I don't believe I can add the BluRAY to one of the SB600 ports (3/4) because it's expecting to add it to a RAID array....is that correct ??
If that is correct, it would appear that my only option is to backup everything, put the hard drives on the PROMISE controller in RAID (or just use software/OS raid), and set the SB600 to AHCI - and probably reinstall the OS from scratch.
    Comments/confirmation greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately it does not appear to be as simple as plugging it in to one of the existing ports. I've tried both 3 and 4 (since the 2 hard drives are on 1 and 2).
    OS is Vista Ultimate 64.
To make sure there is nothing else is at fault, I updated to BIOS last night to the latest. I also updated drivers. Unfortunately, using the ATI Catalyst Install Manager, I don't see a way to update the SB drivers.
The BIOS recognizes the BD and reports it correctly. In the RAID BIOS it is also visible. VISTA boots successfully, and runs fine (I'm using it while typing this). Completely stable as it always was. Until you put any kind of disk in the BD drive. After it senses the presence of the disk, the system immediately blue screens with a 'driver irql not less or equal' showing the culprit code being in ahcix64s.sys - the SB ahci raid driver.

    2 x Seagate Barracuda 500GB SataII in Raid 1 Mirror on SB600
Vista Ultimate 64 fully up to date with all updates.
I can see the AHCIx64s.sys on the latest driver package is more recent than what's installed, but can't find a way to install it (as described above).
    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

  • K9A2 Platinum Memory/RAID config Prob.

I have an MSI K9A2 Plat mobo and a phenom 9500 processor. I bought Mushkin 8500 DDR2 memory. In Bios it sets it at 800 mhz. What do I need to do to get it to run at the advertised speed? This is my first MSI mobo. What are the optimal settings for this set up in bios? HT speed? its at auto but im sure its not at the clocking it should be. Also the memory has a timing of 5-5-4-12 at 2.2-2.35v. When i go into the bios and try to select timing it has about 15 different fields to input. Thats the first problem....
The second issue is that I have 2 raptor HDD's. I initially set them up in a RAID 0 configuration. when the computer restarted after the config it gets to the screen where it detects the two hard drives in raid 0 and says FUNCTIONAL... Thats were it freezes..... I have to do ctrl+alt+del to restart and go back in the BIOS and select IDE under the sata menu. I can format both hard drives and both are working correctly. I was going to try and set up the raid again by hitting ctrl+f but I cannot access the SB600 RAID bios on the board anymore, It just sticks at FUNCTIONAL. Any Ideas? BTW i have bios vers 1.1 850w coolermaster ps and 2 radeon 3870s.

I connected both raptors to the PROMISE controller and I get the same thing FUNCTIONAL, then it stops!
Also whats the best HT speed and how can I get my memory to run dual channel?
everytime I boot up it says single channel.

"and how can I get my memory to run dual channel?
everytime I boot up it says single channel."
Its already in dual CH(since you have placed memory sticks in correct slots DIMM1 & DIMM2):
AMD's OverDrive Utility, note that it reads the memory controller as single channel because Phenom actually has two independent 64-bit memory controllers instead of a single 128-bit one. Current BIOSes and the AMD utility incorrectly report this as being single-channel.
        * A single-channel mode, when only one of the 64-bit controllers is active (occupied with memory modules)
        * Dual-channel ganged mode, the integrated memory controller is detected by a processor as a single 128-bit controller
        * Dual-channel unganged mode, the integrated memory controller is detected by a processor as two independent 64-bit controllers.
    Read this one as well:
    Quote from: Mr_Raider on 12-December-07, 11:57:32
Regarding the dual channel thing, I found the following on the OCZ memory forums:
Just some info for you guys.
ganged mode is 1x128bit dual channel
unganged is 2x64 bit dual channel
Some motherboards are reporting unganged as single channel at boot, this is not true, if you see anyone saying they have defective memory please point them to this post.
Ganged will give higher sandra bandwidth at this time than unganged, this is because sandra does not fully support phenom and is working in 1 thread mode. Once sandra supports Phenom unganged 2x64bit will take the lead
If you are running multi threaded benchmarks you need to be in unganged mode, this is the fastest way of running the system.
CPUID also reports my 9500 as single channel.
You can change it from "advanced dram configuration" locate "Unganged Mode".
Do a memcheck with Memtest86 as well.
Another note about RAID problems, according to promise SS above, you have running BIOS 1.1 or 113, in 1.0,112,P0C Promise version is different(2.8.10.30.0012) you may try to flash back to one of those.
But since problem persist when you connect them to SB600 RAID, probably problem is not there...
Can you retry with different brand HDD's(not Raptors, but with hitachi or seagate for example)?

  • Question about the k9a2 platinum sata

on the k9a2, i notice 6 sata ports but i only see 4 on the bios post. i haven't tried the fastbuild utility yet but will it allow you to put 6 hdd's in raid 0?

    quad:
nah, gaming, benchies, hd video, movie, music. most of which will be backed up and even if i lost it most of which can be re-downloaded easily. also most of the media will also be on the upcoming htpc too. and once the cash comes in, i plan on taking the next step in storage and build a NAS PC. on top of that, the music is also on my laptop so there is a decent data redundancy going there.
wd raptors are very reliable drives, even more so if you use additional cooling for them. 4 of the 6 hdd's came out of that other machine i posted on here with the k9a platinum 580x system. they have been running for over a year.
again i appreciate the ultra smokin fast responses and i will continue to use msi products as long as they continue to make hardware to fulfull my needs.  (hint: a sb750 k9a2 platinum with the sata ports relocated and on the same controller would be nice   )
    Bas:
speed? i definately notice decreased load times on games with raid 0. i have never tried nor looked into sas so i cannnot say anything about it. usually i associate SCSI with expensive so that has kept me away from it.
i'll play, how much are these drives a piece?
i'll be honest, i am curious about the external raid controllers. however the expense cannot be justified at the moment. Perhaps later once they make a board with more than 4 pcie slots or i get another x2 card.  i have been really thinking about ssd's for my next upgrade, i hear they are fast but not practical yet.

  • K9A Platinum SATA RAID issue

Hi! I'm new to the forums..I have built a new system with the K9a Plat mobo and its a great board. I can't seem to RAID my 2 WD2500YS hard drives to save my life.Though this is my first RAID attempt..(sigh) I tried changing the BIOS setting for my SATA from Native IDE to Raid, the Fast Build utility comes up showing both of my drives but I can't make any changes from there (should I be able to?) and then my system wont boot to XP. I put the SATA back to native IDE, reinstalled Windows XP using F6 to load the x86 RAID driver off of floppy, it proceeds to the XP install showing my 2 drives (C and F). I install XP on my C drive but it just installs as normal. I must be doing something wrong to run hardware RAID.
I tried to go with software RAID within XP Pro but I cant convert my C drive to dynamic, it says "one or more drives dont have enough room..etc". My F drive shows as dynamic... I'm really at a loss! I would like to run a hardware RAID 0.. Any help would be greatly appreciated..
    Gerry

I got it going! Woohoo! I wasnt sure about some of the options such as stripe size, fast init, and cache something ..heh.. I left the stripe size as 64, went with fast init, and did writethru cache. Are these OK? I'm looking for performance...
Windows XP seems to be happy..it shows the 2 drive Raid 0 array when I look at the C drive properties. Do i need to do anything else in XP Pro?
Thanks again for all the help!

  • Need SATA RAID driver for RS480M2-IL(ms-7093) to install XP

    Greetings,
I have lost my floppy to install the driver for my SATA RAID and can't seem to find the right one anywhere on the web.
It's an ATI SB400 chipset that has a SIL 3112a RAID controller.
The driver doesn't appear to be on the support page: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&prod_no=214
If anyone can point me in the right direction, you'd be my hero.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

Well, I found the correct driver, I think. It was in the ATI System driver package, on this page: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=driverfile&dno=2427&i=1
However, I still can't get XP to recognize my drive by pressing F6 at install. Perhaps I'm not using the right files from this package (287MB!). I found what I thought might be the correct drivers in the following folder: ATIDrv/SBDrv/RAID4xx and copied all the files to a floppy. Windows sees this driver and loads it, but when it gets to the point of formatting a drive (or whatever the next step is after you hit F^ and load the driver), it says no HD found, hit F3 to restart (sure would be nice to have other options here, like load another driver).
So, here's more info about my system (read the posting guidelines since last time
    mobo: RS480M2-IL BIOS 7093v39
    PS:Thermaltake TR2-430NP
    RAM: G.Skill PC3200 1GBx2
    HD1:Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 160GB
    HD2:Maxtor Diamondmax20 160GB
Problem started when co-worker shut the machine off hard. On reboot, Invalid System Disk error and looking at RAID Bios shows drives in SYNC state. Removed the drives and attached to another machine, one looks fine so I clone it for good measure. The other is corrupted, XP wants to format as soon as it's mounted. Checking it with Filescavenger3 shows the files are still there,  but I just reformat it since I have the good image of the other disk. Now I'm trying to fix the other drive, since it still comes up as Invalid System Disk, so I want to try either using the Recovery Console to FixMBR, or do a repair install of XP. I can't find the right driver to make this happen. I do have a disk with LastXPv2.11 that will recognize the drive, but it doesn't allow me to get into the recovery console or offer to repair xp. If you know how to extract the drivers from a slipstreamed disc, that might work too. Finally, I don't know if I've update the RAID bios, or if that happens when you update the mobo bios. I did update that to v39 and the RAID BIOS shows 4.2.50.
Sorry this is so long, any ideas to help get me going here would be fantastic
    Cheers,
    Jeff

  • K9A2 Platinum SB600 RAID Success Yet?

I have been monitoring this forum for suggestions on how to successfully create a RAID 1 on the SB600 controller. I haven't found an answer yet.
I posted a question earlier this month and received several good suggestion on how to configure my new build for home High-Def video editing. Namely, using SAS drives and changing out my Ultra PSU. I have made the purchases and am now ready to install them and configure the system.
    This is what I propose:
    1. Use a 73GB SAS 15k drive for OS (Vista Home Premium) and my editing software (Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0) on Promise T3.
    2. Use another 73GB SAS 15K drive for a scratch disk for my working video data files (typical project files average 13GB) on Promise T3.
    3. Use 2 x 320GB WD Caviar 7200 SATA 300 drives on the SB600 in a RAID 1 for other data files (Office 2007, wife's pictures, etc).
    4. Use a 1TB external HD on Promise T3 (if possible?) to back up everything.
My question is, has anyone been successful yet in setting up RAID 1 on the SB600 controller? If so, HOW?
    Thank you.

I finally got Windows to recognize the new SAS drive after I formatted and partitioned it. I restored the disk image (1 partition and MBR) to the new SAS disk. I restarted and at POST I entered BIOS to change the Boot sequence to select the RAID array. I then shut down and physically disconnected the prior  C: disk from the SB600 controller. I tried to boot to Vista. About the time the Vista spash screen was to appear there was a very brief blue flash on the monitor followed by a black screen where the system was POSTing again. It did this 3 or 4 times. I then entered the Promise FastBuild utility to check my JBOD array. It showed up just fine and said it was functional. I exited to BIOS and checked the boot sequence again. My RAID array wasn't listed in the boot sequence nor was it available to select from when I tried to change it.
Frustrated after 5 hours of messing with this I plugged my old SATA C: drive with Vista on it back into the SB600. In BIOS I selected it as #2 in the boot order. (My DVD drive is #1). Vista booted and I heard a real 'grinding/grating' noise from my open computer case. One of the hard drives was making a real ruckus. I put my finger on the side of the new SAS drive and determined that it was making all the noise. This SAS drive was still connected to the T3 controller but it was not in the boot order listed in BIOS. For some reason I booted to the new SAS drive and not the original SATA drive as I had selected in BIOS. Weird!
That's a long rambling tale, I know. But it leaves me with a couple of questions:
    1) Maybe all this image/restore thing with Acronis is complicating the matter. Would I be better off doing a clean install on the SAS drive?
    2) If so, how would I go about that? Would I still have to do the FastBuild thing? Install drivers for the T3 while installing Windows?
    3) Quadrifoglio Verde, you say you have an XP boot drive on the eSata port on the T3. How does that work for you?
    4) Do you really have to wait for that whole FastBuild/scanning disks thing each time you boot? That's kind of annoying.
    5) Do you think my new SAS drive is bad? I do! Surely they can't make THAT much noise.
As always, thank you for your help.

  • First time install probs with sata raid drive using k7n2g ilsr

    hi all!!!
this is the first time i have tried 2 use a sata raid hdd.  i dont use a raid drive for my c:, the raid drive is just extra space.
first i formated my pc.  i installed the raid drivers, then xp.  my pc worked fine.  but then after a week it was time 2 try plug the drive in.
when i got my k7n2g ilsr motherboard i di not get a manual.  so with the raid drivers installed, i just pluged in the raid drive.  the drive seemed fine....  i formatted it and put a couple of games on.  but after an hours usage the games would crash (high pitched tone instead of the audio, then full freeze).
i have tried putting these games back on my original drive and they work fine......
    anyway....
i wanted 2 know if anyone had any ides what i was doing worng???  are there any settings in the bios that need changing when installing a raid drive????
    thanks for any help!!!!!!!

ok still formatting drive.....   looking over the files on the msi site for my motherboard it has 2 files available for raid drives:
the 'Promise Serial-ATA RAID Drivers' ( which i have installed)
and the 'Promise Serial-ATA RAID Utility' (which i dont hav installed)
do i need the Promise Serial-ATA RAID utility??  and if so how do i install it??  there are no setup files just dll files like the driver....  is istallation the same as the driver?
again, i thank u for your help!!!!!

  • P965 Platinum SATA II drive stuck in UDMA-5

WD Caviar 2500 SATA II drive.
Tried 4 different SATA (Intel) ports.
The startup screen that shows IRQs, etc., shows that the drive has 32 access mode off, and in UDMA-5 mode.
Sandra and HD Tune and Device Mangler all agree that the drive is in UDMA-5 mode.
However, I get burst speeds in benchmarking over 150 MB/s.
Anyone know of any tricks to get this to display as UDMA-6?

    Thanks for responding.
I tried the JMicron SATA port last night, just to see what changes.
Burst speed in HD Tach was 210 MB/s, which is interesting.
It's overall read speed was about the same.
Sandra warned that the transfer mode was 0 instead of 16 or 32. I think that's where it can transfer several sectors at once. I don't see a way to set that either for the Intel or JMicron bios.
Using JMicron, HD Tune reported a lower minimum speed...it ranged from 16 megs to ~64, instead of the Intel port ranging from 28 megs to ~64. And the graph it makes showed some huge dips at different stages of the benchmark.
So, for now I'm back to Intel SATA and just be satisfied it's over the 150 MB/s burst, and that the average of 55 MB/s is reasonable.
It sounds like this drive is pretty commonly used, and so I'm hoping more people who are using it and the same mobo can chime in that they have the same problem, or theirs works fine.
