um i dunno where that pin is. where am i suppose to find it from? am i suppose to have it?
cause i connected the 4 pin on the bottom of it ( next to the audio ports)
    Yes, its "tricky" a bit
Find and connect EPS/ATX12V 8-4 pin cable for the CPU. But deattach it 1st: /* Its 8pin, one piece by default */
Once done plug it to JPWR1:

ok and that should fix the problem with the booting?
Yes, you can't boot without it.

plugged in the two sata(the 80 gb's) into the red slots.
installed the raid driver for windows vista
    booted computer. and press CTRL+F
pressed 2. and put my two 80's in raid 0 mode. i dunno what to put for the other options such as striping and stuff.
thats all i did for now.
    can someone help me

I don't understand where you're at or what you're trying to acheive here ???
You've formatted the 640gb disk, so now where is your OS?
There was absolutely no need to do that, what myself and BOSSKILLER are trying to get you to do is to create a partition on your RAID array, so WIndows can use it, this is done by clicking on 'Drive Management' in your Computer Management screen. (right-click My Computer and select Manage)
The RAID array will appear as one 'disk' in the disk list (lower right window), but will be empty, just right-click inside it, and select Create Partition, and then format it.
[My screenshot below is from my computer, but I only have one hard disk, and no array, but your array will be shown in the lower right hand panel, will show as 160gb (2x 80gb)]
If you still cannot get the grasp of this, I suggest you get someone who knows how to do this to help you.

  • K9N2 Diamond SATA Connections

I have a total of 6 SATA connections on this mobo. The two facing and the four to the right. My case is the CM Comos S. One SATA slot is used up by the front panel. I have 2 DVD drives and 2 HDD's. I have the front panel, both dvd's and my main HDD plugged into the four slot area. Looking at the front of the board, SATA6, is the only remaining open slot. SATA5 is blocked by the vid card. I connected cables, but the new drive is not detected. Why? also in BIOS it only mentions SATA's 1,2,3 and 4. Can someone please help?

Ok.  Google the raid questions.  There are several different types each has it's specific characteristics from raid 0 to jbod.  It is way to much information to give via a forum chat.  Benefits are data redundancy for some, data access times for others, combinations of those two characteristics with others.  Do some research.  Your manual will also give you some instruction.   If it's a new install take your time, do your research on raid and make the decision for yourself.  Further, with the new install you won't have to retro the AHCI to enable the 5 and 6 sata ports.

aren't SATA 5 & 6 specifically for a raid set up?I presume then, that all 6 SATA connections are not the same.
Sorry I missed these questions.  No 5 and 6 aren't specifically for a raid setup...I believe sata 1-4 use the nvidia raid controller and support up to 4 devices and the 5 and 6 ports are for silicon image controller and support only 2 devices.  Anyway, check your manual or download one.  It will tell you.

  • SATA connection on Qosmio X870 Bt3G23

    Hello
I bought last month Qosmio X870 Bt3G23, now I'm planning to add SSD as my primary drive for OS and daily use programs.
I was wondering what kind of SATA connection does my laptop come with, is it SATA II or SATA III
If anyone know what kind of SATA connection does Qosmio X870 Bt3G23 come with, please let me know and I would be very appreciated

I called Toshiba Tech Support with that question and did not get the clear answer I expected. The interface on Qosmio X870-BT3G23 seems to be a SATA-II.
Usually a manufacturer would  advertise the best features available if they are being offered in a product. I was disappointed but I might nevertheless order the Qosmio X870-BT3G23. I also wonder if there are yet on the market any laptops with a SATA-III interface.
As for adding an SSD, there should be no problems. SATA-III SSDs are backward compatible with SATA-II interface. I have successfully used an OSZ Vertex 4 and a Crucial m4 on old laptops.

  • P67A-GD65 new system bios setting recommendations and sata connections

    Hey all,
My old dual core HTPC (after many hours of use) finally gave up the ghost and moved on to the great PC grave yard . I have ordered all the new upgrade parts from Newegg and am looking for recommendations on what bios settings and setup procedures I should use on the initial bootup and Windows load. I'm not looking to overclock I just want a fast stable system for video decoding and playback. It's my understanding from the manual that SATA 1-2 are controlled by the Intel P67 chip and 7-8 are controlled by the Marvell chip but I am unsure of SATA 3-6. Can SATA 3-6 do raid 0? I want to use the Crucial SSD as my primary boot drive and the 2 WD drives on raid 0 as my secondary drive. SATA connection advice (which SATA ports) and Raid Bios setting would be helpful. Should I install the raid 0 drives after I have Windows 7 loaded on the SSD? Any other setup advice is appreciated.
    Here is my setup.
    Windows 7 64bit
    Bach HTPC case
    Ultra LSP 750Pro PSU
    Intel i5-2500 3.3G CPU
    MSI P67A-GD65 Motherboard
Sapphire HD5570 1G RT Video Card
Crucial CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 SSD 6.0Gb/s SATAIII (Primary boot drive)
    2 WD3200KS Hard Drives SATA 3.0Gb/s (Raid 0)
    Lite-on 12X Blu-Ray Burner SATA
    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Two questions answered. SATA 3-6 are controlled by the Intel P67 chip and do support Raid 0 but I still wonder if I should wait to install the drives until Windows has finished it's install.
SATAIII controller integrated in Intel® P67 & Marvell SE9128 chipsets
    - Up to 6Gb/s transfer speed.
    - Supports two SATAIII ports (SATA1~2) by P67 PCH
    - Supports two SATAIII ports (SATA7~8) by Marvell SE9128
    - SATA1~6 ports support RAID 0/1/5/10 mode by Intel P67 PCH
    - SATA7~8 ports support RAID 0/1 mode by Marvell SE9128

  • Is there an E-SATA connect on my 2.16  Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro?

MacBook Pro 2.16 Intel Core Duo 15"
I've suddenly got to work with an E-SATA setup. I'm using the USB port right now ... but have been told the E-SATA would run smoother, faster. ??? This is to edit a film on the fly. I've been given the data on a naked drive plugged into a black box that gives me either USB or E-SATA.
    All ears,
    Ben

Any SATA 3.5" drive will connect to you PowerMac G5 or Mac Pro.
SATA 2.5" drives either need a PCI-SATA card or a Firewire SATA case to connect to a PowerMac G5 or Mac Pro.
Mind you a drive formatted on a MacBook Pro will not boot a PowerMac G5, but might boot some Mac Pros if the Mac Pro is able to run the said operating system. See this article on which operating systems each Mac can run:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517
Usually though, moving drives from one machine to the next simply makes user data transfer quicker, and is not a way to migrate applications or operating systems. This can get real sticky going between PowerPC and Intel Macs as this migration tip explains:

  • K9A2 Platinum Sata Raid Problems

I could not get my 2 500 gb seagate 7200.11 drives to work on the sb600 raid controller, in raid 1 (set to raid mode in bios).  I'd set it up and it would remain functional until I formatted it and put stuff on it. Then when I restarted, it says critical and can't locate the second drive, but it shows up in the list of definable drives.  My older 200 gb seagates 7200.9 in the same setup do not have this problem.  I finally got my 500s working by hooking them up to the promise controller instead.  (Although no longer a current problem, I wouldn't mind knowing what would cause this for future occasions.)
My new problem is, I had to unhook all but the drive I wanted to install Windows XP on (A separate 120 JBOD configured drive) so I could get it to be C:/.  This all went fine.  However when I hooked up the 500s again, Windows XP would not boot, the screen just stayed black, with them not hooked up, it boots just fine, with the 200s as well.  When running the Windows XP setup again, the 500s appear as C:/ instead of the 120 in the disk select screen of the install.  It's like the 500s took over the drive letter when they are hooked up and thus can't load.  Is there some way to stop it from doing this or am I completely off on this.
    My computer spec is:
    K9A2 Platinum
    AMD X2 6000
    2*2gb OCZ PC6400
    ATI Radeon 3870
    700 Watt OCZ PSU
Update: Installing XP ignoring the fact its not C: fails.  It copies all the files onto it, then after restarting I get a black screen.
Another Update: On a whim I tried disabling the SB600 raid and set it to AHCI instead as I read that other people were having problems with it and it all works perfectly now.  It's too bad this doesn't work, but I'll just put the 200s back in my old computer instead.

I'm having the exact same problem you did. Same Mobo. Except I started off with Promise RAID 1 because when I tried using SB600 RAID, my SATA DVD drive would not function in Vista Ultimate x64. So I had my Raid 1 configured on Promise T3 with BIOS 2.8.1030.0021 using 2 320GB drives. One of them Seagate, one WD, both 3GB/s transfer, only difference was that Seagate has 16MB cache, while the WD has 8MB. But both drives worked fine in the array for some time, and then after doing some updates from Windows Updates now the Raid config shows that encountered a critial status, "A disk member of an array has failed or is not responding", "Problem is detected with Array : 1". And when I go to the see the Array status it shows the Seagate drive on ID channel 1, but for the 2nd drive it shows questions marks all the way through the item line. I checked the drive, it seems fine. And even when I go to define a second Array, it shows the WD available on channel ID 3. So it definitely see both drives, but how do I re-add that WD drive that it doesn't see to my earlier defined array without loosing data on my Seagate drive?

  • PATA SATA connections of hd(s) for least working conflicts

Just setting up my new unit and attempting to avoid conflicts when editing movies, transfering/recording music and my daily "stuff" by not having unneeded programs messing things up. My hope is (but not certain) that upon working in a different area, I can boot to CMOS, change the boot device and thereby eliminate a lot of the stuff that loads that is not needed for work at hand. I have the ability to connect 8 devices (4 PATA & 4 SATA). Here's my plan, what problems or suggestions might anyone give me?
Primary PATA Master = Hot Swap HD, will insert my daily work programs drive and can use for data/backup with other tasks (ext bay)
Pri PATA Sl = not used
Sec PATA MA = DVD Burner (ext bay)
Sec PATA Sl = not used
3rd SATA MA = Hot Swap HD used for data with movie editing, backup and transfer of data (ext bay)
4th SATA MA = Video editing programs drive (int bay)
5th SATA MA = Music transfering and recording programs drive
6th SATA MA = Not sure yet
The 4th ext bay will have the Creative Labs Live IR Box for front connections
Will this work, or should I take a different path of just using the hot swap drives.

There is no support of hotswap for PATA chl's.
I recommend you install OS on Pri Master PATA disk and leave this attached all the time .
Same with optical drive on Sec Master PATA chl .
The swap all you need on the sata ports .
This way you also avoid Harddisk boot order to change each time from removing/adding 1'st IDE master .

  • Question about the k9a2 platinum sata

on the k9a2, i notice 6 sata ports but i only see 4 on the bios post. i haven't tried the fastbuild utility yet but will it allow you to put 6 hdd's in raid 0?

    quad:
nah, gaming, benchies, hd video, movie, music. most of which will be backed up and even if i lost it most of which can be re-downloaded easily. also most of the media will also be on the upcoming htpc too. and once the cash comes in, i plan on taking the next step in storage and build a NAS PC. on top of that, the music is also on my laptop so there is a decent data redundancy going there.
wd raptors are very reliable drives, even more so if you use additional cooling for them. 4 of the 6 hdd's came out of that other machine i posted on here with the k9a platinum 580x system. they have been running for over a year.
again i appreciate the ultra smokin fast responses and i will continue to use msi products as long as they continue to make hardware to fulfull my needs.  (hint: a sb750 k9a2 platinum with the sata ports relocated and on the same controller would be nice   )
    Bas:
speed? i definately notice decreased load times on games with raid 0. i have never tried nor looked into sas so i cannnot say anything about it. usually i associate SCSI with expensive so that has kept me away from it.
i'll play, how much are these drives a piece?
i'll be honest, i am curious about the external raid controllers. however the expense cannot be justified at the moment. Perhaps later once they make a board with more than 4 pcie slots or i get another x2 card.  i have been really thinking about ssd's for my next upgrade, i hear they are fast but not practical yet.

  • Asus P6 Sata connection orientation

I've seen it mention that the nVidia GTX 285 card I plan to buy is double wide (which I can see from pictures) and long enough that it extends all the way across most motherboards
The Asus P6 pictures I've found do not show the EDGE of the motherboard when the Sata cables connect... I "sorta think" the Sata connectors are made so the cables go out sideways, instead of straight up where they could hit a long card... but I'm not sure
Before I buy the combination of Asus P6 and nVidia 285... can someone verify that even a very long card is not going to hit Sata cables?

OK... it is hard to tell, from the pictures I've found, just exactly where the video card will cross the motherboard
Now, it's just a matter of waiting until I can actually buy CS5... and then the rest of the hardware to build my computer

  • 13 Inch and 15 Inch Sata Connection downgraded

I was thinking about maybe upgrading my 2.4 SR MBP (with Express card and 3.0 Sata) to one of the new unibody 15 inch models. I went to my local Apple store and checked out every 15 inch they had and all of them have been downgraded to Sata 1.5 connection speed. All of the 13 inch models have also been downgraded. What is going on?? I have already sent Apple feedback but this is just beyond being cheap..... to save a few pennies is going to cost Apple a lot of sales. I, for one, am not buying any of the new MBPs.

I could be dating myself (okay... no "faster is better" jokes on this part)... I think it was in the 486 days (or maybe 386... I forget). PCs used to have a "Turbo" switch. You could run them at full speed ("Turbo") or reduced speed. The idea being that the hardware was speeding up much faster than the software was evolving. The timing on some programs couldn't compensate for the faster CPU. An example might be a game where a character moves across the screen at a given rate... but on the faster machine it would fly across faster than you could even see it... so you would switch the "Turbo" off.

  • BIOS doesnt recognize SATA connected Hard Drive- need help flashing bios from bootable USB

    hi
I have an envy laptop running InsydeH20 bios rev f14.
the bios doesn't recognize the internally connected hdd/ssd.
I have heard that with insyde bios', sometimes you have to unlock 'secret capabilities' to recognize hardware incl internal hdd.
but I am just trying to reflash my bios.
the problem is that I cant get into windows because it doesn't recognize my hard drive and windows doesn't allow insallation to usb connected drives.
I downloaded the patch from hp.com for my product and it actually has an option for making a bootable USB for use on the actual system, and I did this. the instructions are to just restart my computer with the bootable usb. I have tried Legacy support on and off, neither updates bios.
I highly doubt it has anything to do with the physical sata connector.
basically I need to flash my bios from bootable usb. I have done some research about making a bootable dos usb etc etc but I don't know what program to even run and how..
