K9A2Gm V2 under W2k - SATA/IDE issues

I am having trouble to get W2k running on the K9A2 GM V2 board (I would need that for sw-compatibility issues).
I got it installed and running by enabling IDE emulation. Problem is that the drive gives me 1.5 Mbit/s transfer rate. On another PC with SB600 in RAID-1 configuration same drives gives me 80MB/sec. I used the MSI F-6 x86 drivers that came with the mobo (ATIDrv/SBDrv/IDEATA133). BIOS tells me that the drive has UDMA-6 enabled. The driver is fine in the device manager and shows up as AMD PCI SATA/IDE Bus Driver. Version is 5.1.0.8.
-> Did anyone succeed to run W2K with acceptable disk performance?
I also tried a SATA/RAID setup (using a single drive RAID READY configuration). After the F6 drivers were loaded I got a message that the AHCI drive file is corrupted. I tried several drivers and floppy disks. I also changed the floppy drive with no other effect.
A bit confused I noted a bunch of other drivers on the MSI CD as JMicron, Promise and Silicon_image. I thought the drives work though the SB700 and thus only AMD drivers would make sense. Is that a misunderstanding?
I am running out of ideas. Any experiences or comments?
Thanks,
tiger
My system specs are:
    AMD Phenom 9950 Quad Core
    2GB Ram
    1x 500GB SATA HDD Hitachi HDP725050GLA360
1x DVD Rom on IDE Primary Master
ATI HD 3450 Graphics card, 512MB
    400W PSU
1 additional TP-Link GB LAN card
    W2K Pro SP4
    BIOS A7302 AMS V2.1 021109
I also observed: in Device Manager mit DVD is listed with UDMA mode. The HDD however is not. The fields look like that:
  - type: "automatic detection" but its grayed out
  - mode "Use DMA if available"
  - actual mode "not accessible", or "not available" (its a translation, I dunno what the EN version displays)
That must be the reason that the thing is so slow, but why does it not use the UDMA mode?

What PIO bug?
There used to be a problem with Win2K, but that has nothing to do with the controller used, this was Win2K going wrong and that was fixed in SP1 or 2, forgot the exact one.
There fix should be in included in SP3 or SP4 (which i use). I saw couple of Microsoft posts how to deal with that. However, I found many postings in the web with the problem and very often the Microsoft fixed did not work too. I have been trying workarounds for a couple of days now. For some guys another driver did the job (e.g. some "SATA" driver, but I did not find a case with a SB700 chipset.)

However, when putting the controller in RAID is doesn't use the normal IDE way but it uses SCSI (mini-port) way.
There are no drivers for Win2K, so use IDE mode or XP, btw AHCI in XP is fairly unstable too but that's an XP problem.
But you only have 1 drive, so why bother with RAID or ACHI? IDE-mode is faster anyway.
I agree. RAID/AHCI would have been a workaround for the slow IDE only.
Quote from: Bas on 03-January-10, 23:20:21
Set the controller in IDE mode and use the Microsoft drivers! as there are no specific Win2k drivers.
The slow IDE mode is the initial problem I described in the first post. With the MS drivers I could not get the HDD out of PIO mode. On the MSI driver disk I found specific AMD SB700 drivers for "SATA Controller (Native IDE mode)". The driver was 5.1.0.8 and is designated WinXP32, but usually the XP drivers work fine for W2K. I tried those as well as the standard MS drivers, but I could not get my HDD out of PIO mode.

  • Sata & IDE Hard drive question

OK im running an Neo4 Platinum SLI MB and i have 2 Western Digital Raptors hooked up in raid 0 array and everything works fine, Now when i try to hook up my old IDE Maxtor Dimondmax 250gb Hard drive it wont be detected in windows.  Do the jumpers need to be changed on all the drives? Am i missing a setting in the bios I tried changing the maxtors jumpers to slave or master and either way made no differance.
In the bios/Nvidia raid config area i had the IDE secondary master and IDE secondary slave options disabled, If i enabled them the detecting array at start up shows my raid hard drives as well as my DVD-rom and burner.
    mesa confused

When i installed the 2 sata drives i unpluged my Maxtor so it was never detected..
    The Bios Boot order:
    1st boot priority: DISABLED
    2nd boot priority: DISABLED
    3rd boot priority: HARD DRIVE

    2. Bootable Add in cards
Thats It as soon as i shut down the computer and reconnect my maxtor it hangs at the boot IDE detect screen,  i cant even get into Bios.

  • P35 PLATINUM sata performance issue.

    p35 plat

    2 x maxtor 200 gig sata 2 drives
    1 seagate 320 gig sata 2 drive
    4 gig 1066 mem
    winxp32 sp 2
Hi all, I'm on my second p35 as my first one died due to a duff mem slot and I think this ones developed a fault to. Up until about 3 weeks ago the board and 3 individual sata 2 drives have performed flawlessly but then while burning a dvd with nero the buffer emptied and the disk failed. I also noticed that winrar extraction of dvdr in .rar format that normally takes 1min 25 secs to unrar to a drive was taking as long as 4 minutes if not more.
The normal sata performance seems to have halved for no apparent reason, hdd tach was reporting problems with 2 drives but these have now disappeared. It seems like there is a problem but I cant pin it down to one specific thing because the system runs fine other than that. No crashes, bosd's or anything else; just really crap hdd drive performance when transferring files and and unraring file between the drives.I'm even seeing cyclic redundancy errors from my hdd when transferring files. I have just tried encoding a dvd image [ on 1 drive to another ] using dvdshrink and where in the past I would see 40,000kbs speed now it crawled along at 19,000.
So is my sata contoller on the board broken/failing and how can I test it to prove it? Thanks in advance people.

The system ran fine for weeks with no probs. Same psu no change [ enermax is not a cheap generic psu plus its a carry over from my old sytem that ran 2 7800 gtx's in sli with the same hdd's]. I find it hard to believe that sustained data transfer between drives would be a psu issue all of a sudden. Burning a dvd to disk would not be an excessive power drain, that was the first time the fault maifested itself. Also that was the only thing happening at the time. Im not a multi tasker, one thing at a time. I do appreciate you guys throwing idea's my way. I'm hedging towards an intermitent hdd problem but as its not all the time its going to be a bugger to pin down as which drive it is. I would love it to be as simple as a dodgey hdd as otherwise how do you recreate a sata controller issue when faulting a mobo

  • Oracle Com Suit under W2k or WNT 4.0

Any suggestions about using Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0 as a plataform for Oracle 8i Server and client?
Some sites said that Oracle8i relase 2 is aproved for working under W2k. It's this true.

    Hi Farbod,
I think there may be some confusion as the names are quite similar.
Oracle Identity Management is a Suite of products for managing identities over the enterprise. This includes products such as the OID server. It also includes Oracle Identity Manager (OIM) which is a product. The latest version of the "Suite" is 10.1.4.x (Not exactly sure of version)
Oracle Identity Manager is an identity and access provisioning engine. It was formerly known as Xellerate.
The key is: Oracle Identity Manager is not the same as Oracle Identity Management. Oracle Identity Management suite of products includes Oracle Identity Manager.
    Clear as mud? :)

Hello ! I've got problem connected with copy Oracle 8.1.7 db under W2K (but I know that problem does not concern with Unix). So step by step:

Finally, after log on to the new db and open resetlogs I've got information that db is incosistent - I've done lots of times the same things with Oracle 8.0.6 and there wasn't any problems.

Im trying to migrate files from my old mac hard drive (old mac isnt working- just hooked up hard drive to sata ide adapter) --- when I go to Migration Assistant, "select your disk" it just keeps thinking, it doesnt pull anything up.  When just plugging in the sata adapter, it doesnt come up automatically to run either.  I have used this adapter before with this old harddrive, so I know it works (I had help the last time)....I just cant figure it out this time.  Please help

You cannot use Migration Assistant.  When you connect the old HDD, does it appear on the desktop of the MBP.  If it does, you will have to transfer the files manually.
If not, does it appear in Disk Utility?  Post a screen shot such as this:

  • SATA/IDE channel configuration issues

    Ok here's the setup:
First SATA Channel: Seagate 7200RPM 80GB HDD
Primary IDE Channel: LG 52x CD-ROM Drive
Secondary IDE Channel: Western Digital 7200RPM 160GB HDD
    OS: Windows XP SP1
    Mobo: MSI 865PE Neo2-P MS-6728 Version 2
The bios can detect all drives.
If I use the recommended On-chip IDE Configuration mode as mentioned on page 3-23 in the manual, Windows XP loads and then goes through the process of detecting the Primary and Secondary IDE channel.
After detecting it reports that Windows reports that the "Driver is not intended for this platform".
If you look under Administrative Tools in Control Panel is refuses to detect the PATA drive as well.
I tried swapping the PATA and the CD drives around but the above applied.
If I try the following drive configuration and set the bios ATA Configuration to PATA & SATA then all drives are detected in Windows:
First SATA Channel: Seagate 7200RPM 80GB HDD
Primary IDE Channel Master: LG 52x CD-ROM Drive
Primary IDE Channel Slave: Western Digital 7200RPM 160GB HDD
So what's up? I've tried tinkering around with Legacy/Native, PATA/SATA Only etc and I've run out of ideas.

I got similiar problem as b52 when I plugin an old P-ATA deathstar drive as master on first primary IDE and a LITE-ON dvd-rom as master on secondary. When I enter Windows the hardware auto wiz starts working and after a little while reports that two devices of type "IDE channel" have "Driver is not intended for this platform". I currently use the settings Danny recommends above. Weird thing is both the deathstar and the LITE-ON drive seem to work great. Of course I want to get rid of the exclamation marks in my device manager though. I read elsewhere drive emulation software could be a culprit, and renaming/deleting atapi.sys could be a problem solver - but not for me it turned out. Anyone got other methods to try out?

  • [Athlon64] SATA & IDE Config issue

    Hi,
Sorry if this has been covered before, (I did search but theres nothing) I have a K8MM-V set up with Maxtor on SATA1, and a DVDRW as Primary Master on IDE. Is this correct? Although I am experiencing no real performance issues, the DVDRW, a Sony unit, seems a bit slow at reading discs - maybe its my imagination!! Thanks in advance for any answers!

Quote from: Tiresmoke on 05-August-05, 08:36:32
Set the DVD drive as a master and any other drive as slave that shares that cable. The SATA drive uses a different controller so it is not the cause. Most DVD players only like to be a slave drive. If you have a 40 wire IDE cable do replace it with an 80 Wire and if teh drive allows DMA then do turn on DMA mode for it.
Ok, it seems its just a quirk of the Sony unit - its seems slow on spin-up compared to the new LiteOn DVDRom
While I'm here, any recommendations for a graphics card for this K8MM-V? I've heard of Via/ATI issues, so I'll avoid them, but I'm looking for budget to mid range cards.. Any suggestions welcome! Thanks

  • PM8M-V Motherboard SATA HD issue

My PM8M-V(BIOS v2.3) Motherboard is not supporting SATA HD (Seagate 250GB).
I searched every where in BIOS but didn't find any option to resolve issue.
Upon booting it asks for pressing TAB to run RAID Utility. It detects my HD there correctely. But I don't want RAID setup. I just need to use it as normal.
Someone put following picture in another forum to resolve same issue but I didn't find any such option anywhere in my BIOS setup.
    OnChip SATA   ENABLED
At an other forum with very same issue person suggested a new version for BIOS. I did search at (http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=205) for new BIOS update but didn't find any new version v2.4 there.
Can anyone help me with this or just send me now version of BIOS v2.4
    Thanks

I just re-checkd BIOS setup again but didn't find and of these features there
    I checked following options
     1-Advanced BIOS Features
     2-Advanced Chipset Features
     3-Integrated Peripherals
I just didn't find any place to disable RAID or Switching SATA controller to IDE mode. Don't I need update to new BIOS v2.4 to have these options?
Again if someone can guide me to new version for my BIOS please let me know.
    Thanks
You need to go into the submenu of these main options at the Bios. Pls look at your Bios more carefully on how to go into these submenu.
Under Integrated Peripherals > on-chip IDE configuration >
ATA Configuration: PATA+SATA or SATA Only or PATA only (by moving the up and down or left or right arrow keys depending what are available option)
If there is this 'Configure Sata as Raid' option here, select disable or set as No (by moving the up and down or left or right arrow keys depending what are available option) since you do not wish to raid harddisk.
Else pls post a pic of your BIOs Integrated Peripherals > on-chip IDE configuration page with camera for people to see.

  • More XP/SATA install issues: What am I doing wrong?

    Dear all,
Before I begin, I want to say that I've read and re-read the RAID setup FAQ several times.  Please don't tell me simply to read the FAQ.
    This is my setup:
    K8N Neo Plat
    A64 3200 1MB L2 CG Rev.
    512MB PC4000 Ballistix
    R9800 Pro
    2 x 80GB SATA Seagate Barracuda
    530W Fortron PSU
This is my second K8N Neo Plat.  I had the following same issue with the first one.  The above setup is all I have connected when I try to install XP Pro SP1.
I first went into BIOS, enabled all appropriate SATA/RAID options (using ports 3/4), exited, setup my RAID O, exited, and went back and set HD Priority to the RAID in BIOS.
That said, I loaded from XP CD, did F6, loaded everything off the floppy, but at the end of the load screen, instead of "Starting Windows", I get:
"Setup either detected multiple disks in your machine that are indistinguishable or detected raw disks. Setup has corrected the problem but a reboot is required.
"Setup cannot continue, press any key to restart"
So, I figure okay, it could be a fluke, so I go back through and load XP again, and this time I get past the blue load screen and am able to setup partition, format, and copy files.
Upon Reboot, I hit F11 to make sure my RAID will boot.  When it does, however, I get this error instead of the normal XP Setup:
"Windows could not load because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware."
This is where system hangs.  Why is this all happening? I have followed the FAQ word for word, but the stupid thing just will not load from my RAID.
    Frustrated.  Please help
    Odie

    Hi Odie 812,
I'm no expert on this either, but I have gotten mine working, and there a number of steps I would consider relevant.  It sounds like you've done the first 4 steps perfectly, and so this may be "teaching my grandmother to suck eggs".  You should probably just jump straight to the drivers issue in (5).
However, I'm going to spell out all the steps for clarity for other users.  I would re-check all stages up to 5 anyway, just to be sure.
    1) Check and double check that the settings in BIOS are correct.  That is, you need to set your RAID and SATA array up under "Integrated Peripherals" in at least 3 places:
    a) Under "onboard device" the relevant SATA interfaces need to be enabled (either or both SATA 1/2 or SATA 3/4).
    b) Under RAID Config, you need to set RAID as "enabled"
    c) Under RAID Config, you then need to specifically enable the 2 or more SATA interfaces you are going to use for your array.
    2) Make sure that after you have restarted that neither of the 2 drives now appear in the initial "detecting devices" screen.  After this has passes, the NVIDIA RAID config setup should appear instead, allowing you to press F10 and enter setup.
    3) set up the array, and make sure it is recognised as "good".
    4) Go back into BIOS and ensure the array is recognised and is the first item in the boot list.
[This appears to be exactly what you did to date.  If so, all well and good.]
    5) Set up Windows using the appropriate drivers.
Here's where the problem is likely to lie.  I never got a floppy disk with the Mobo and tried to install first using the drivers that came on my CD.  These did NOT work, and Windows just saw 2 unpartitioned HDDs, which it did not want to install to (similar to your comment below).
So, what drivers should you use?  Well, I extracted the IDE drivers from the 4.24 NVidia drivers package (you can extract directly using Winzip) and ensure that all the drivers in the IDE/WinXP directory are copied to a floppy (or CD) for booting at F6 in Windows setup.
However, I have recently found out that the IDE drivers in the MSI 5.03 package appear to be later ones than in the NVidia package.  Som my current inclination would be to use these.
    I hope this helps,
    David

  • Ext Drive Prob:Upgrade 10.3.9 to 10.4.3 SeriTek 1VE4 PCI SATA cntlr issue

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else has reported issues with the Firmtek PCI SATA controller during upgrades to Tiger.
I did a basic Tiger install on a clean drive, then migrated my user account & apps, then applied 10.4.3 combo update then installed FCP Suite & used system update to get the remaining updates it recommended. (security fix & FCP suite component updates.) Did this on a G4 1G DP MDD system 300/16 PATA Maxtor boot drive and on a G5 2.5DP 250/8 Hitachi boot drive system and both exhibit the same condition regarding external SATA drives.
Basically, the card still works and the drives show up on the desktop, I just can't right-click and "eject" them for hot-swap. (which I used all the time under 10.3.9 to move video files from system to system.) System profiler can't find the external drives attached to the Firmtek card, but I saw that was a known bug. If I physically power down the external enclosure, or remove (hotswap) one of the drives, I still get the old dialogue box about SATA configuration has changed and everything appears to work properly. This just sounds scary since the drives aren't dismounted (ejected) properly. Also, I have noticed that sometimes only one of the two drives in the enclosure is detected at startup (neither of the drives is the boot drive).
Just looking for answers. I have had no problems whatsoever with the Firmtek stuff up til now.

Here's the reply Seritek gave me (and I did the firmware update to 5.1.3, but that didn't fix the eject problem).

Subject: Technical Support Question 1ve4 pci card
    Hi,
I have a seritek 1ve4 pci card connected to a 2 bay external enclosure.
Today I upgraded from osx 10.3.9 to 10.4.3.
Now my external sata drives show up on the desktop, but if I right click
on them I am unable to "eject" since that option does not appear to let me
do a hotswap. This always worked under 10.3.9. Do I need a firmware upgrade?
This same behavior happens on my G4 dual 1G MDD system and
    also a G5 dual 2.5G system
Here is the system profile for the pci controller card
    SeriTek/1VE4 v.5.1.1,03/14/05, 23:42:20:
    Name: Seri-Tek1VE4
    Type: ata
    Bus: PCI
    Slot: SLOT-3
    Vendor ID: 0x8086
    Device ID: 0x3200
    Subsystem Vendor ID: 0x8086
    Subsystem ID: 0x3200
    ROM Revision: 5.1.1.1VE4
    Revision ID: 0x0000
System profiler does not show the external drives under ATA or Serial ATA,
yet they show up on the desktop and in finder
    Thank you for your help

I have the same problem with no recognition of the Seritek /1V4 card. After numerous reinstalls, I got it to recognize it with only two drives attached, but it didn't last and now I can't get it back. Very frustrating since the older Seritek 2 port card works fine.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

  • JSPServlet can't load taglib class under W2K

    Hello,
    iAS version: 10g (9.0.4)
    platform: w2k
    Service Pack: sp4
I've deployed a custom application. When I try to access to the application I get the following error in the application.log:
    JSPServlet: Exception: oracle.jsp.parse.JspParseException: line number 18, <%@ taglib uri="/includes/TTT_TagLib.tld" prefix="ttt" %>
Error: Unable to load taghandler class: /includes/TTT_TagLib.tld
The deploy of the same ear under Linux platform with the same iAS version ( 9.0.4 ) is working fine.
    Any idea?
