K9AGM2 - Long post time or slow post time

I don't understand ...  its takes about a minute for xp to start booting.  I have fast booting enabled.   Specs, AMD 64x2 3800, 1Gb ram, Seagate 120gb IDE HD, panasonic IDE cd-rom drive.  Machine works fine, just wondering if the slow post time is a feature?

Disconnect all USB devices and see if boot delay will persist.
Check storages cables(data&power) and jumper configurations, make sure that they are jumper-ed properly.

    So I'm using a Canon D30 (3.1 megapixel). My ISO speed is set to 100, but when take phots at very slow shutter speeds I get a lot of noise. And I mean a lot. Can anybody help?

    Long exposure time is the 2nd main way to get noise in an image.  Not a lot you can do other than post processing.  How long an exposure?  Perhaps a compromise like ISO 200 and a shutter that is half as long (twice as fast) would be slightly better if you played around with it.  Or perhaps that would be even worse.

    Here are the FB posts I have got about this issue. I tried to paste them neatly but didn't work.
    To be honest I am baffled that such an advanced NLE has so many issues. There should be a warning about the Warp Stabilizer messing up a project I had no idea till now.
    This was my question to a PP user group on FB.
    I am cutting a 60+ minute doc with lots of source material and the project takes a dogs age to save now which is beginning to interrupt my workflow. I would have thought the save would take less time depending on how much work was done since the last save. I suppose working with Proxies might be the solution but I am already 70% done.

    Saving the project file on an SSD might be a good idea.
    Your project size is slowing you down. Create a couple of projects, each containing a part of the footage. Organized in bins as needed. Call them footage projects. Create an other project named edit and cut in there. Use the media browser to browse the footage projects. Import what you need and use search bins to keep it organized.
    If you didn't transcode your footage before you started the project it could be part of the problem. And like the other post says only having the footage you are currently working on will also help. The claim that you don't have to transcode when working in Premiere is misleading because in most cases when working with many different source codecs transcoding will always improve your computers performance.
    I had the exact same experience cutting a 90 min feature with 120 hours of Pro Res 4444 footage. Long save times are caused by project bloat, either by having too many assets loaded or a lot of warp stabilizer effects applied. Transcoding will only affect playback performance and exports - it doesn't sound like it's the problem in this case.
    only some codecs (4K GoPro, 6K R3D, lengthy h264/AVCHD clips for example) benefit from transcoding and will be snappier and playback smoother. But transcoding will never ever help the loading or saving time of your project
    Don't apply warp stabilizsr to everything. All those coordinates get stored in project file
    All I can say is that I worked on a Premiere project in November where my computer spent up to 5-7 minutes scanning through all the different directories with footage after the project was open before I could play back the sequences in my project. I ha...
    some of the ftg is in need of stabilization so I did use the warp stabilizer but not excessively. 15 x 3-10 second clips. Is there a way of managing the storage of the coordinates too minimize the hit on the project size?
    nope. Try importing existing project into a new project.
    I usually stabilize footage in a separate project to avoid huge project files, and export the stabilized result. Then I use the stabilized version in the main project.
    I also work with Nested Sequences a lot. Working in short, manageable timelines. When opening a large project, Premiere will find the footage for the active sequence first, so I can start working quickly, while Premiere is still finding the rest of the footage.
    Could do your warp stabilizing in AE and export renders of them, then import those renders into your project so the are just media files instead of files with stabilizer tracking points.

    Save heavy duty  FX application until after you have locked down your edit. (eg Blurs , Warp, 3rd party FX(MB)
    I Create separate sequences or Duplicate Projects for many reasons.  eg CC/Grade  and
    Warp Stabiliser ...definitely.  Its even has a slow save  impact on After Effects Projects!

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Shut down from safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Drop down menu (sorry long post)

    Hi, im at university and for a piece of coursework I have to
    make a professional looking website. I have decided to load
    external SWFs, rather that have long loading times, because of this
    I have a container, which the SWFs are loaded into. I also have a
    drop down menu, which is in its own Movieclip, the structure of the
    menu is below:

    The container is on Scene 1, at the moment I can load the SWF
    by clicking on 'box1' but it loads in its own window, not the
    container, my question is how do I load the SWF into the container
    on scene 1 by clicking box1?

    Last week i bought the thinkpad E440. When i am poweing ON it is taking Incredibely long bootup time or it hangs..
    It is not always but sometime it is happening.

    As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with slow boot on your ThinkPad E440.
    Have you checked booting the system into safe mode?
    Check with uninstalling unwanted software and also antivirus application for temporary.
    Is the system is getting overheated?
    Optimize Windows for better performance.

  • Long loading times for Safari on iPad Air with iOS8

    I've had long loading times in Safari sInce upgrading to iOS8 on my iPad Air 128 GB. Are any of you having the same experience?

    Sometimes I question myself, how come that iOS being held in beta for over quarter or even over a half a year, and most certainly long enough in alpha, still comes out so much raw and buggy every release? Sometimes it feels like it's only getting worse concerning the debugging.
    I wanted to address the HR manager of the Apple Inc. to query him/her about HIS/HER dedication to the overall work being done. Why, the ****, does Safari get slow, why, the ****, is it unpredictable to define whether a sound stream in Safari's tab will end upon tab closure or not. Morever, why do iPhone iMessages fail to mark a message or a chain as a read one even thought you just really did it. Beyond that miriad of similar questions I have just another three, since when is it official Apple support position to advise you to wipe out your device and install everything back from iTunes, not the cloud? But what is more important, how come that support representative tells you first to back up your buggy iPad, wipe it out and restore from that backup both with iTunes? Finally, we all know how Apple does cherish it's developers, can somebody tell me how, for heavens sake, this website ever possible to exist then — Texts From Xcode?
    I don't want neither need to mention that switching between tabs in iOS7 (I have had no chance to test it in iOS8) in Safari never gave you any sure answer whether your tab will be reloaded when you get back or not: whether have you copy any post before leaving, to paste back on return or not.
    After all I do still love Apple, I do love people's ideas. I do love the overall outcome, but I want to tell Mr. Cook one phrase I heard when I used to be a head of a department in a medium size company and had to deal with continuous fails of the personnel and most often ended up doing much things myself, it was not the exact situation as with Apple although I hope you can trace a path: If a manager has to do anything besides managing he or she failed to manage one major issue — the personnel one.

    Hi, I'm some guy on the internet and I am 15 years old. For the sake of this post and the answers I hope to have, please ignore my age and understand my maturity and I hope that you can understand why I would like to learn this language so much. I seem to have major issues with learning this language and online tutorials and stacks of books do not seem to do the trick. Please do not reply saying "this is not for you, try something else" because although I do not know much in Java in terms of making good applications, I have learned quite a few things and I am able to make simple things with the console such as making a calculator where the user has to type in what operator they want to use and then they are asked to enter two numbers in which they are timed/added/divided etc. together and it gives the answer. Considering this I really want to continue learning this language because I find it fun to learn and fun to program in, yet I am having serious stress issues because I can't understand simple things and I just forget some of them and I then find it difficult to make simple applications. For example, I am trying to make a simple snake game where you have to find all the apples and eat them and then your body grows larger etc. but I just can't think of how I would do it. I know a few simple application type things and maybe how to put them to use, but I just don't know how to use them in this situation and how to start off making games like these.
    Just to tell you a little bit about my background of programming, I have known about programming since I was about 11, I made a virus in Visual Basic believe it or not. It would disguise itself as Mozilla Firefox and would slowly delete random files that were opened or edited in the last month starting from the last used files in said month. It would delete a set amount of files every time you booted up and it was pretty nasty. It was obviously quite easy to get rid of it and it probably had many bugs, but it was a nasty virus nonetheless. Anyway, that lasted around 2 months and I never really picked up on programming until around 13 at which point I learned a bit of Java up until the System.out.println part, so not very far at all and I barely understood anything. Then I kinda picked it up at 14 last summer (2012) and learned almost as much I know now over the summer holidays and then kind of left it until after Christmas because I couldn't really get past a certain 'barrier' so I got bored and gave up. Until now. After Christmas I got back into it and starting learning a few more things, understood functions a little more and downloaded a bunch of source code from lots of different websites. I've now been extremely stressed out for the past 2 weeks going crazy because I can't fit anything else into my head because I just forget it or just don't understand it. So I am now in a complete frenzy not doing homework, being a douche to my friends and just not being very social or doing stupid things.
    Unfortunately this is going to be a rather long post as you can probably already tell and there will be a 20 Q's kind of 'game' below where I ask things that I desperately need to know and maybe things that I want to know but don't necessarily need to know.
    If you can, I would greatly appreciate it if you could answer all of the first 14 questions in one post instead of 1 or 2. They are both booleans and if used correctly can be used to do the exact same thing with just one or two lines of codes difference. Which one should I pick over the other and why?     15) What is the best way to get into the mindset of 'a programmer'? What is the best way to understand the ways in which you would build an application and learning the step by step processes so you know what you have to do next and how to do it.
    16) I seem to always be worried that it takes programmers 5 minutes to program a very simple game, like Tetris because I've seen videos and just other places where it makes it look like it takes them a very small amount of time to make something that might take me months to learn. Is this how it works? Or can it take hours to program 5 classes for a very simple game? If so, why does it, if said programmer hypothetically understands the language well enough to make said program? Surely they would know what to do and how to make it so it would not take long at all?
    17) How often are IF and ELSE statements used in common programs? I feel when I am making a program I am always using them too much and I just stop programming from there because I feel that I am using too much of something so maybe it isn't the right way to do it or maybe there is a better way to do it.
    18) What would be the best way to learn programming for someone who finds it difficult to teach himself said topic yet has no efficient way to have someone teach him? I feel I am somewhat intelligent enough to learn a programming language, I have gotten this far, so I feel I should just keep going. Besides, despite the difficulties I have and the ridiculous amount of stress I get from not being able to learn on my own, I find it very entertaining to program things, read over other peoples code and slowly learn the world of programming. I feel that I see myself as a programmer in the future and I just really hope that I can learn this language quickly before I am too old to have time to learn this as a hobbie as I do now.
    19) I am someone who hopes to become a games developer as I thoroughly enjoy playing games as much as I do finding out how they work. What would be the right way about learning how to make games? Should I stick with Java or should I go to C++? I've only stuck with Java because I have more experience with it and I feel that I should learn an easy language and get used to OOP and other things before I go off making complex programs with a difficult language. I know how to print something to the console in C++ and that's about it.
    20) I have no way of having an education on programming in my school at the moment and all courses that have programming in them aren't very good - you make a simple application for coursework and you do a computer physics exam at the end of the year, not too helpful for me. Also, I don't have many friends that are diversed in any language of programming and the ones I do have, coincidentally, absolutely none of them are any good at making games or painting anything in graphics or anything to do with frames and windows. They're all about the console and making mods for games instead of making full on programs with a window and what not so it's difficult to get any of them to teach me anything. I've looked at college courses and none of them are for my age and what I am wanting, or they are just too damn expensive. I have also looked at online courses, one-to-one tutoring etc. but they are either way too expensive or they aren't very good in terms of being in a country half way across the world or maybe they have bad ratings. Anyway, what I'm trying to ask, despite all the negative put backs and all the issues that seem to follow me whenever I try to learn this damn language, what would be the best way to teach myself this language or any other language, or where are the best places to have someone teach me for free/cheap prices? I just essentially want to make something basic like a video game like Tetris or something so I at least have some knowledge of making a video game so I can maybe learn other things much easier.
    P.S. I am in top sets for all my classes at school, so any intelligence issues aren't a part of this. I guess you could maybe call it laziness, but I just prefer to say that I am too used to people teaching me things and doing things for me rather than teaching and doing things myself. So if I were stuck on an island alone I really would not know what to do at all because I would mainly rely on other people.

    Before reading this MASSIVE postI didn't read it. I went straight to the questions. The rest of it was a complete waste of your time. Nobody cares whether you are 15, are stressed, get bored, etc. You should spend more time learning and less time emoting, and typing.

'public' is used for a purpose that is described in [etc as above]. The class name needs to agree with the file name because that is a rule of Java. Period.     I have a very long boot time with my Arch.
    Startup finished in 828766ms (kernel) + 63430ms (userspace) = 892196ms
    Especially after login into gnome, it takes quite a while until the desktop is visible. In meanwhile, I only see the wallpaper.  Does anyone has a suggestion how to fix that?

    Wow, that solved this problem. I had 5 GB of systemd logs. I deleted them (after making a backup on another disk), I limited the journal size to only 50MB, and now NetworkManager only lasts 4 seconds to start, and GDM appears 10 seconds earlier. Thanks a lot

  • A question about arrays (brace yourself this is a long post)

    I am working on an assignment that is about generating a random rabbit race by using arrays:
    Rabbit Race
    Write a program to simulate a race between 4 rabbits (numbered 0 to 3). Initially, all contestants are at the start of the race track (position 0) and must race on a 20 meter track (positions numbered 0 to 19). Each participant has its own technique; some run fast, but are sometimes lazy; while others run slowly but steadily. All rabbits make 1 movement one after the other and the one who arrives at the end of the track before the others, wins the race. Here are the rabbit?s strategies :
    At each turn, rabbit 0:
    - sleeps (so does not run), 50% of the time;
    - runs 4 meters, 30% of the time;
    - runs 3 meters, 20% of the time.
    At every turn, rabbit 1 runs 2 meters.
    At each turn, rabbit 2:
    - sleeps, 30% of the time;
    - runs 3 meters, 70% of the time.
    At each turn, rabbit 3:
    - runs 1 meter, 80% of the time;
    - runs 10 meters, 20% of the time.
    The difficulty in the race is that the track has little slippery hills. So after each movement, rabbits can slide down a hill bringing them either closer to the finishing line, or closer to the starting line. How much they slide and in what direction depends on the slope of the hill at their current position, and how many meters they ran during this turn. Each position (or meter) of the hill has a slope represented by an integer between -3 and +2. If the slope is :
    - zero : then, there is no hill at this position and rabbits that reach this position stay there.
    - a negative integer : then, there is a declining side of a hill at this position, and all rabbits reaching this position will slide down
    to a new position that is closer to the finishing line. The new position will be the current position minus the slope times the number of meters the rabbit ran.
    For example, assume a rabbit was in position 10, then ran 5 meters to position 15. If the slope at position 15 is -2, then the new position of the rabbit will be 15 - (-2 x 5) = 25.

    I'm not going to read that long post. As suggested, produce an SSCCE
    and paste in the exact, complete error message, and indicate clearly which line causes it.
    I did notice this though:

    Maybe the instructor is calling index 0 position 1--separating Java's array impelementation details from
    colloquial 1-based counting, so that the rabbit starts at "position 1" (index 0) goes through "position 20"
    (index 19), and when he's done, he's "at postion 21"--i.e., past the finish line, off the end of the course, etc.
    This won't correspond to any index in the array, but can still be considered a logical position in the race. "Oh, he's
    at position 21. He's done. There's nothing more to do with the array, as it has no slot corresponding to
    this 'done' position."
    That's pure speculation on my part. You'll have to ask your instructor or figure out for yourself what's going on.

    This  worked for me after 7 attempts with all kind of solutions on different forums. HP Envy 15 Notebook - Intel HD 4000, Nvidia 740
    Locate the F11 key and start tapping it as soon as you turn on the system.
    Stop tapping once you reach the recovery manager screen.
    Click Troubleshoot .
    On the Troubleshoot screen, click Recovery Manager .
    On the OS selection screen, click Windows 8 . Recovery Manager opens.
    Under I need immediate help , click Minimized Image Recovery .
    When Recovery Manager prompts you to back up your files, select a backup option.
    If you have already backed up personal files or you do not want to back up personal files, select Recover without backing up your files , then click Next . Continue to the next step.
    Follow the on screen options and complete the system recovery.
    After the system recovery is complete, click Finish to restart the computer. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup
    -Then, make sure to install all updates via Windows Update. Do NOT install any drivers for graphics etc.
    -I did NOT do any updates with HP Assistant
    -Run the update via Wired network, disable WiFi and Bluetooth
    -I did disable all things in Autostart. Could be reached via Win8 taskmanager
    -Ran Microsoft Compability checker
    Update went fine this time.
    Some of my steps might not be needed. And of course if MS compbility checker says a driver is not compatible you will have to update it.
    Hopefully it will get you there.

    For Map, we do create the datasource and related maps, themes, styles to be used for Map. The exeuction part is done by Mapviewer and we don't have much control on the mapviewer code on performance tuning point of view.

    Issue:
    After MapViewer being idle for some time (+/- 60 minutes) it takes a long time to generate the first map image --> 5 minutes.
    In the MapViewer logfile with log-level=finest, I see that there is a very long preparation time.
    After producing the first map image the next (same!) image is produced very fast.
    What could be the reason?
    What does MapViewer do during "preparation"?

    The database is restarted once a day in the morning. That could explain the problems in the morning. But there are also problems during day time after some hours of idle time when the database in not restarted.
    After testing we noticed that we don't have the problem if we use database connection through OC4J (data-sources.xml).
    If we use that method every database connection is cleaned up if it is not used for 15 seconds or so.
    If we use the other method (database connection in mapviewerconfig.xml) then the database connection is open for a long time and then we have the problem with the long preparation time.
    This problem only occurs in a DMZ environment. MapViewer is installed on a DMZ server and connects through the firewall with a intranet database.
    Is it possible that the firewall software prevents communication of an open database connection after a long period of idle time?

    When MapViewer is not used for more than 1 hour it takes a very long time to produce the first map. After that the same map is produced in less than 2 seconds. In the MapViewer logfile I see a long preparation time. What can be the reason?
