K9AGM3 and Phenom 9500

Trying to use an AMD Phenom in my K9aGM3 and its not posting.. says it is supported but can't get it to boot. Will boot with an older Athlon X2. Bios is 1.20.

I have K9AGM3-FIH and bios A7367AMS 2.0B6 103007
Configuration:
Phenom Agena 9500+/MSI K9AGM3-FIH/1024Mb PC-6400 Elixir (or Hynix - I`ve tried two of them and together)/8600Gt Palit Sonic (works perfect on other platform)/300ПGb Seagate SATA/Windows XP Professional SP2
After flashing bios system starts normal, but I have other problem:
Try to explain. When I start 3DMark 2001,for example, It works perfect some time, but some time later the scene start repeat themslelf. Try to tell other words: for example title moves from bottom to up, but after 5 sec screen changes and title begin from bottom to up like 5 sec before. Then scene changes and we see the same on other. Some times screen going black.
Bios set as default. Sistem driver ATI 8.452. No overheating

  • K9N series support Phenom 9500/9600/9700 ?

Hi i've read under Cpu support tab of K9N SLI platinum description web page that  Phenom 9500 / 9600 / 9700  are under testing ... any news if this processor can works with MSI K9N series mainboard?

    ***Urgent***
I've already had MSI motherboards working with CPUs that were being tested at the moment, all went fine.
However my K9N Platinum (with latest BIOS (1A)) doesn't even boot with my new Phenom, the monitor stays black!
I put the "old" X2 5000+ back in and everything worked fine.
Is there any way to fix it? Beta BIOS? Or do I have to buy a new motherboard? (I need this info as soon as possible, sorry)
    Thanks in advance!!

Hmm... I didn't try to hijack this thread in any way!
I thought it was good for people to know that they have to pay attention! I don't want others to be disappointed after having spend a lot of money on a Phenom!
Thereby a workaround (which is in no way phenom specific, but general) would provide both a warning and solution for potential users of this combination.
    Thanks for your help
Take a look at the German Msi Forum   http://www.msi-forum.de/board.php?boardid=52
    You have to click here:
Ich habe den Haftungsausschluß gelesen und bin damit einverstanden.
    Have in mind the following:
I do not have the board so i do not know if a bios is working.
Modded or beta bios is not the best one.
Finaly i am sure that MSI will release a proper Bios.
    Good luck

  • MSI K9A2 with Phenom 9500 problems

I've been asking MSI technical support some questions and after a day or two they just delete the post without giving a reason, so this is nagging me now.
Firstly, I've tried BIOS 1.0, 1.1, P0C, P0D and 113 BETA. The latter is the best one and I'm using it right now.
    Problems are many:
    1) Before I have booted up at NB frequency 3.1GHz and P95 4-cores over 1hr20mins no problems and ran over 30 benchmarks. Now suddenly I cannot bootup at even NB frequency above 2GHz.
I've booted over 2GHz NB frequency over 60 times neched/tortured stable on stock volts so that can't be the problem. This messes up overclocking completely.
    2) I have booted up HT reference clocks of 266MHz maximum. No crash. Now I can't even boot up 241MHz
What is happening, is the source code having problems?
    3) Why does AMD OverDrive 2.10 freeze my system if I start it? Why does it suddenly crash my system at stock? Enthusiasts have said its MSI BIOS issue. Whenever I change a single value in there or press "Apply" it will freeze my system. Any fix?
    4) Do you have any BETA BIOSes that I can test or modded BIOS yet? I will test them for you if you want because I'm testing this system now and need them. Yes I know the issues with BETA etc, I'm an ex-programmer.
    5) Why can I not run DDR2-1066 or higher than ratio 1:2? This is so limiting. Why is there no option for tRC higher than 26?
    6) Why can I not run HT from 2GHz-2.6GHz?
    7) Why can I not change CPU VID and if so, why does the system not POST?
    8) Why can I at times bootup 265MHz HT ref., bench it perfect, pass stability testing and at other time randomly the system will not boot up even if 1MHz above 200MHz?  >:(
    8) Why does CPU/HT speed downclock if I set NB speed higher than 2GHz or NB multi higher than 9x?
*** Is there any fix to any of the above? I would like some information as soon as you can please, to know what Phenom performs like to sell it or keep it before Xmas.
Thank you in advance. And FYI yes I know how to overclock using MSR Editor/Memset/AOD/AM2+ P-State Values/WPCREDIT, its dangers, how teh NB/HT/CPU speed and voltages are worked out etc. Mmy system is very well cooled in ambient 2-4C and I've only needed stock volts on everything to get 2904MHz screenable, 2860MHz benchable yet. But suddenly, after flashing this BIOS, things have gotten bad.

    Thanks for the replies.

Increasing the memory controller's operating frequency will increase performance for sure, but having the HyperTransport speed higher than 1GHz is pointless.
Firstly, the HT frequency can never run above the NB frequency on Phenoms. The system will always make sure the NB frequency is higher than the HT frequency. So to get 2GHz-2.6GHz HT, we have to have high NB speed at 2-2.6GHz or above. But I can't increase NB frequency past 2GHz at all. I can't change NB and CPU VID which AMD said should be changeable and allows overclocking properly. They said its a BIOS problem. And having high HT is supported by Phenoms and should be easy. Which means either the BIOS/board is buggy or the CPU is buggy.
    Quote
What other people get doesn't mean you will get the same results; overclocking is a gamble. Give the system some time to breath, run it at stock for a few days, then try overclocking again.
I've had it for 3rd week now and gave it time, first two weeks stock. I think that's long enough. I know it's a gamble, but HT 2.6GHz is not a gamble, it's basic specs it should do with ease. Same with DDR2-1066. The board cannot run anything above  divider 1:2 and HT ref. is stuck at 260MHz for the CPU. Which means I cannot run above DDR2-1040 which is still less than my RAM rated speed. I also cannot run the tRC needed for those speeds. BIOS gives no options for it above 24. AMD said it's the BIOS bug.
    Quote
The default HT 3.0 speed is 3600MT/s which I believe converts to 2600MHz. Try running the HyperTransport @ 2.6GHz so a x13 multi, then run everything else at stock. Try to see if everything clocks correctly and that the system is stable at stock.
    At stock the system runs:
    2200MHz CPU speed
    200MHz HT ref.
    5x 1000MHz HT link
    1800MHz NB speed
I can't do above ~1980 on HT and NB no matter what BIOS/OD setting I choose. Absolutely no way, the system will either not POST or downclock automatically. :(

Have you read about the Phenom's L3 cache bug? Could be a cause of crashes and what not...
Yes. I've been thinking the same thing but how can I be sure if it's the CPU that's buggy?

    2) Reference clock of 300 here with considerable ease, BIOS 1.0. Might be the cpu that's holding you back...
Yep, it's CPU. My X2 5000 BE can do 400 on the board easy. Maybe more, I've only booted with it 3 times just to check.
    Quote
    7) By CPU VID you mean Vcore? Only CPU voltage setting available in BIOS, works fine here.
CPU VID is the Voltage ID to each individual core. It decides the Amps fed to each core and is locked on some systems and unlcoked on others AFAIK. It's different to VCore.

Seems like this L3 cache bug might cause your Hyper Transport querks:

...We tested at a 2.3GHz core clock with a 2.0GHz north bridge clock, because AMD told us those speeds were representative of the Phenom 9600. Our production samples of the Phenom 9500 and 9600, however, have north bridge clocks of 1.8GHz. Because the L3 cache runs at the speed of the north bridge, this clock plays a noteworthy role in overall Phenom performance. We've already confirmed lower scores in some benchmarks...

Does AMD Overdrive provide you with the option to toggle the bug fix on/off?
Hmm.. it looks like I cannot run anything above 1980 on NB or HT anymore.  NB frequency really does increase perf. I've tested 2GHz-3.1GHz before last week.

Other recommendation, switch to SP3(google for it)
Yea but what if that gives me more problems? It'll leave me no where. At least now I know that its not the OS giving me problems.

  • K7N2 AND radeon 9500 : NO post!!

    Hallo @ all!
    I have a big problem.
i read some similar issues all over the forum with the K7n2 and radeon 9500/9700 and Kingston RAM.
    Well, i have 2x 256 MB 333 cl 2.5 kingston ram.
when i use the radeon 9500 non pro 128 MB, the fan just moves a short time and the system is off and can only be put on after PSU switched off.
So I cant switch on my SYSTEM ! (
    PSU enermax 365 (3.3V 32A    5V 32A )
the graphics card works, tested on ECS K7S5a AND MSI KT400!
    with SAME PSU.
AGP is OK tested with GF 2 mx.
but not the combination 9500 AND K7N2.
    im so sad!
i have to run the syst with a VODDO BANSHEE :-(
the system is ok, if i remove the 4 pol aux power plug from the graphics card, BUT: then the graph card hinders system from booting. (intentionally , its made by sapphire)
If sombody has a solution or a tipp PLZ PLZ PLZ help.
    Greetings, JENS.

    Hello!
I found a "solution". although u cant call it so... .
Well, 1st i tried an enermax 465 watts, but of course, the problem is the same.
the fans just moves 1 sec and then u cant do another till u switch PSU off/on.
its no RAM problem, because system ran fine with voodoo banshee PCI.
    so i tried sth. "brave" :-D .
but what should happen bad, if the Graphics card is layed out for the 12V ???
I removed the 12v Power plug, booted the system till the Warning: plug in 12V aux power in ur radeon 9700....
(i posted before, that system starts till this point when power plug (12V) is removed).
And then I plugged in and hit the RESET button:
    See, system booted well *sheesh*.
But, its no solution due to its necessary any start....
So, would U built in a delayed switch, which overtakes this work, or would u send in the Mainboard?
    Greetings, Jens.
What a curies thing a PC is...

A Phenom II even if AM2+ will not work even if it is below 125w
If that's true then why would MSI claim AM2+ support with BIOS 1.3 and later. They may not be in the outdated CPU support list but clearly stated in the BIOS download listing from BIOS 1.3 to 1.6. MSI CPU support pages on some of the MBs have been woefully out of date for years.
    Description    - Support AM2+ CPU.
       Version    1.3
Type    AMI BIOS    Release Date    2008-03-28
Download    7367V13.zip    File Size    0.55 MB
Note    1. This BIOS version must be used in order to support AM2+ CPU.
    2. Please do not use BIOS version 1.2 or older version when using AM2+ CPU.
See here for list of supported AM2+:
    http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-MSI/K9AGM3-FIH_%28MS-7367%29.html
As mentioned do not use 125W CPU nor OC any 95W CPU. Either will fry CPU VRM (Voltage Regulator Module). MOSFETs.

  • PC Upgrader and Nokia 9500 Communicator

If anybody hears that the 9500 can be upgraded using PC Suite, please post. Or is it possible that the 9500 cannot ever be upgraded this way. If so, I will start looking for a 3rd party to upgrade to firmware version 6.27. Despite much info about this new version on the internet and 3rd parties that will install it, NOKIA US insists that it does not exist. Understand the new web browser in the 6.27 firmware version will accept cookies that are not accepted by browser in version I have. Also blackberry support. Thus any info on how the 9500 firmware can be upgraded in the U.S. would be appreciated.

hi, well i am not in the US. but today i updated my nokia 9500 software 6.27.
Maybe this version is for Europe Africa Middle east... anyway what the service center told me, that in case this is not the latest version, they usually contact Nokia to update them with the latest software for their Nokia mobiles.
so maybe you need to either contact Nokia and ask them to send the latest software to your dealer . or ask your dealer to contact Nokia

    Hi,
Have Windows XP PC, used to have 6.8.20 PC Suite, upgraded couple of weeks ago to 6.8.22 and since then synchronisation of calendar items with Lotus Notes no longer work.
Have read almost every post on the internet and performed the following steps:
Uninstall PC Suite 6.8.22 and all of its components
    Used Registry Cleaner
    Reinstalled PC Suite 6.8.20
    Still the same
    Factory Format 9500
    Still the same
    Registered OLE32.dll
    Still the same
Synchronising contacts works fine, but agenda totally fails
    Always get the following error:
PC Sync has encountered a problem and has terminated the synchronisation.
This thing is driving me totalla crazy and I really need my agenda to be synchronized.
Any kind of help is greatly appreciated.
    With kind regards,
    Kris.

    Hi,
Didn't know there was a new version out recently, but also found yet one more post telling that sync profile is kept under documents and settings profile.
Uninstalled all Nokia SW, used registry cleaner, removed couple of remaining entries manually in the registry (the keys that point to which application needs to be used for which extension), rebooted PC, removed Nokia-folder and its entire content under my profile, installed 6.82.22 and now I've got it working again?!?!
Glad to see it working, but not 100% whether or not just the new version solved it.
Post can be closed as for as I'm concerned.
Thanks for pointing out there was yet a newer version!
    With kind regards,
    Kris.

  • Pb with MS-6380, XP 2100+ and ATI 9500 pro

    Hello,
I have a MSI K7T266 Pro2(MS-6380). I recently upgraded my CPU from 1500+ to 2100+ and have bought an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro.
I have reset all default BIOS values except for:
    - Video card set to AGP,
    - disable internal sound card and game port,
    - disable parallel port,
    - disable Spread spectrum.
I have removed all other PCI cards. I was able to play to my 3D games: Mafia, Rise of Nations and Quake 3.
But the FSB was at 100 (old value from my 1500+) and if i set FSB to 133, the pc works fine except in games: after few seconds with high resolution (1280*1024 for example), the game freezes and i have to reboot.
The temperature of the CPU is ok: 55°C at full use with the case openned (usually it's near 62°C with the case closed).
I noticed that at FSB 133, the AGP is working at 68Mhz and 66Mhz with a FSB of 100.
I'm using windows XP with all updates, i have the last bios version and all the drivers up to date. I have installed the PCI latency patch and i have tested my RAM with memtest without any error. I have changed my PSU to an Enermax 460W. But the problem is still there: with a FSB of 133, i can not play games.
Do you have any idea ?
    Bye,
    Grom.

my  advice  buy  a  copper cylinder fan     adjustable  version  good to 3ghz  cpu
will take  temp  down to  30 degrees
this temp is far too  hot  man
     ?(   your processor  will fry
also  most of the better heatsinks
come  with  a  little  plastic  pouck  of  heatsink "gunk"
this type  of  silicone  greese  is  also  very  differeant  from the normal  trasistor  stuff  from  hobby  shops  and  catalogues
and has  far better thermal  properties  than the  types avalibel
so  using it  and  stashing the left  stuff is a good idea
    when buying a new  fan
be  sure it  fits in  the  space  first
incase  the psu is on top of the cpu space
    etc
also  buying  a  psu  with two  fans  in it  will  give much  better flow
    better  30 - 40  that  55 -  wow 62 degrees
    {very hot!!!!}
i think  you  also  need a  case fan   to  pull air  out the case  or into it via  another case fan
some people  use  a  cooler  unit  mounted to the case  to   cool it in hot  country
or  a snale  fan   and  a tube  froma   tumble  dryer  to mount the fan outside
under the house  etc ... or  the input the the  snale near to air  condition unit
i think your   agp  clocks  are out  of  sync
you  may  need to boot block  flash the bios  and   then set  the  fsb  to 133   or  166  for  barton/thouroubred  processors
if the palimino  runs  that  hot  its  out  of  normal  range
and you  need to amend  the heat
    or  pop

  • Kt4V L and Radeon 9500 pro= no overclock

Hi, just wondering if anyone has been able to overclock successfully with a KT4V L (VIA KT 400 chipset )and a Radeon 9500 pro. The system will overclock with my old Ge force 2 no problem. But moving the fsb even 1 or 2 Mhz over 166 with the Radeon installed and CRASH !! I've tried everything ,increased voltage on proc. vid card and ram, loosend ram timings , heat isn't an issue temps are ok. Pwr supply should be ok as I'm getting or slightly exceeding voltages across all rails.
Have  tried with one stick of ram (pc 3200) and with both sticks in( one 3200 and one 2700) All my drivers are the newest including chipset and vidcard. The Radeon does have the modded bios installed to enable overclocking and it overclocks like a champ !  I know the ATI cards have issues with the VIA KT 400 chipset but the system runs rock solid at 166 fsb. Anyway if anyone has had any luck please let me know or if anyone has any ideas on overclocking this thing. Thanks !
Specs: MSI KT4V L mobo, AMD Barton 2500 XP Superlocked processor (I tried unlocking ,no luck) one stick 512mb pc 3200 and one stick 512 mb 2700, Sapphire Radeon 9500 pro with unlocked bios, Enermax 350W psu, one WD 80gb 7200 hdd,one Maxtor 30gb 5400 hdd, cd burner,cd rom Antec Plusview 1000 AMG ,Thermaltake Volcano 9 heatsink and fan. AND 11,650 3dMark 2001se score.
    Wanna get it over 13000.

The 9500pro is a great card. It does have the 9700pro bios in it. That was the first thing I did to it when I got it last year Got the core at 310Mhz but the memory maxes out around 281Mhz.
The amperages across the rails are as follows 3.3V is 32A, 5V is 32A and the 12 V is 26A. The -5V and -12V are both 1A and the =5Vsb is 2.2A .
I have already tried overclocking with one ram stick . Using both the 3200 and the 2700 seperately.
I've also set the vid card to stock settings and still no OC.

Well you know that othergfx cards do work oin ur board, so I still say you RMA it, or swap if with another card that will work

Maximum Supported CPU only 1090T, according to that list.
    My question is :
I am in needs to upgrade to more powerful CPU.
    (Considering that, X6 1035T - X6 1090T are supported)
will 1100T be working on my Board?
    Thanks

When will MSI update the BIOS to support 1100T?
All six cores Thuban are already supported except 1100T.
I think it is not that difficult for MS to edit BIOS and add support for 1100T.
C'mon, i am your loyal customer. Pleaaseee...
    Thx
