K9Copy and K3b - no devices found

I'm Running Arch with kernel 2.6.28.8-1 (a custom parallel kernel) with GNOME as the DE with the KDE 4.2.2 libs installed and the latest repo versions of K9copy and K3b.
The problem is that neither K3b nor K9copy are showing any selectable devices i.e. my Benq DW1640 DVD RW drive (which is on IDE interface, Slave 0).
The drive is detected and runs fine under Nero Linux which I have installed as well.
My user is a member of the optical group, and I've tried running both programs as root, but still no devices are found.
Not many ideas turned up on a search, other than permissions and ensuring user is a member of 'optical', which I've already done.
Thoughts on where to next?

I think there was a bug that made the link between /dev/sr0 and /dev/cdrom disappear. Most programs look for /dev/cdrom. If you can change that, try pointing them to /dev/sr0 until that little bug is fixed. I can't remember if it's a kernel bug or udev or ??? There's a thread about it here somewhere...
Good luck!

  • "Disk not found" and "No boot device found"

Please share any knowledge that may help in overcoming this problem. Installing Solaris 7 on Dell Precision 620, 933 Mhz, PIII. At the point where all systems seem about ready to go in completing interactive install, it comes back with "Disk not Found". A friend tried to help with his limited knowldeg from having loaded Solaris software before, but was unable to ascertain the problem. set_ environment command was not recognized. If its any help the boot path read: /pci@o,o/pci_ide@1f,1/ide@1/sd@o,o : boot args kernel/unix_-r
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi ,
I have not faced this problem on solaris 7 however I did face a problem similar to this on Solaris 8. I made a small dos partition and made it active and then started the solaris 8 installation which then went through fine.
    Hope that helps.

  • [workarounded] no device found after installation

I just installed arch on a dell inspiron R (came with windows 8, now erased from the hd) from a USB uefi image. Everything went well (so it seemed) but after rebooting i only get a "check media [failed]" and "no bootable device found". I alredy reinstalled everything the second time, just to be sure.
Since i got no errors of sort during the installation process I have no idea where to look. Is there something I can do from the uefi shell to see where the problem is?
    Last edited by Box0 (2013-04-12 12:55:16)

    I followed the beginner guide:
    1) created 3 partition (efi,root,home)
    2) installed the base system
    3) installed efistub (installation went well, but it didn't boot)
3b) removed efistub and installed grub2 (installation went well, no errors, but it still didn't boot)
    4) restarted the entire installation process, this time installing grub2 first, again no errors and no
    boot.
In the bios setup (or whatever is called now) I have three options:
    1) legacy boot mode
    2) uefi boot without secure boot
    3) uefi boot with secure boot.
    I'm using the second.

  • No volume control elements and/or devices found

Hi, I recently installed Arch Linux and I followed the tutorials on how to configure it. At this moment I have Gnome installed and it is working fine, I only have one problem.
Every time if I try to access volume control I get the following error:
"No volume control elements and/or devices found"
I'm relatively new to Linux so it might be me just being stupid(Maybe I just don't have the right packages installed) but I've searched the web and I didn't find anything that could help, I also searched this site but there are only a few things about sound problems. I think the problem is caused because Linux is not detecting my sound card (its an on board sound card) or maybe I have not given the command to detect it/activate it. In Google I've found that 'lsmod' and 'lspci' commands are for detecting drivers, so I executed those in my terminal and put them here, I hope this might help fixing my problem.

Gonna reinstall it, things usually go better the second time.
make sure u have adding the user to audio group in order to access sound device.
    gpasswd -a user audio
Yes, I think that was the problem. Anyways, I reinstalled Arch Linux and everything is working fine now.

  • 'No bootable device found - insert boot disk and press any key'

    Dear all,
I just tried to install a version of Windows 7 on my Mac yesterday and used bootcamp for this purpose. Unfortunately the process could not be completed since bootcamp did not partition the hard drive as NTFS. I had to terminate the installation process and whenever I start up my Mac Mini now see a black screen telling me 'No bootable device found - insert boot disk and press any key'. I have tried to push the Option/Alt key to select the boot device but this does not work. I created a USB with a version of OSX to start from externally which also did not work and I used an older hard drive with a fully OSX system and tried to boot from that which also did not work. I am out of ideas and hope that one of you can help me.
    Best regards
    Bernhard

OS X cannot as standard write to NTFS partitions so it is likely that initially the Boot Camp utility created a FAT32 partition. This is not however a problem, when you run the Windows 7 installer either you can manually and specifically reformat that partition to NTFS or it may even do this automatically because it knows that Windows 7 can only be installed in to a NTFS partition.
Obviously if you are using the Windows 7 installer to manually reformat a partition make sure you select the right one!
It sounds like the Boot Camp utility got as far as setting the new 'Windows' partition to be the choice to boot from but of course it is currently empty. However if you are using a Windows CD/DVD disc to install from you should still be able to insert it, turn on the Mac, and hold down the letter 'C' to boot from it. If you are using a USB memory stick to install from then plug it in, hold down the Option/Alt key and turn on the Mac. Hopefully it will then list the USB drive as one of the boot choices or at least list the normal Mac boot disk.
With a Bluetooth keyboard the above keys for use during boot up may not work as mentioned by mjl2013.

  • No Devices Found (Input and Output) After 10.9.3 Update

    Hi,
I just update my Macbook Air (Mid 2013) to 10.9.3. After I finsih updating, I got a problem of no sound at all. Also when I check on System Preferences it shows that "No (Input/Output) device found".
When I try changing the volume using the volume control key on my keboard it shows this image,
I already tried doing some audio bug "fix" trick like reboot, deleting BezelService Preference File, and reset PRAM. However, nothing work.
I am not sure whether I have to reinstall just the audio driver or anything. Audio bug has always been an issue for me since I update to Mavericks.
    Could anyone help?
    Thanks!

  • No Output Devices Found and Track Pad Issues

I bought my Macbook Pro in mid-November 2011.  Yesterday I noticed that my Macbook did not have any sound and when I checked System Preferences it gave me the dreaded "No output devices found" message.  I could hear a start up sound but nothing after I have already logged in to any of my accounts.  This is the first time I encountered it and I did some research so I have already done a PRAM reset, permission repair and I even created a new user account to see if I will encounter the same problem.  Same thing on the other user account, still no sound.  I also found out that the sound would only come out with a USB headset.  Headsets with jacks won't work either.
I brought the unit to a service center and they advised me to reinstall OS X Lion and I did.  There was sound right after I reinstalled the OS.  However, it was gone again when I did a reboot.  I also noticed that my track pad won't respond on certain occasions and I have to do a force shutdown by pressing the power button.  What could be the problem?  I am fearing that this is a hardware issue.  I prefer not to have to bring the unit to a service center, wait for a week to get it back then only to encounter the same problem in the future.

Try resetting the PRAM and SMC...

    Problem Description:
Yesterday I updated my laptop's BIOS to F 5A - latest available on HP Website. Since then I have lost the bluetooth functionality, which was wroking just fine prior to the update. Now the system doesn't find a bluetooth device.
    What I have already done:
    1. Switched back to previous versions of BIOS (available on HP Website coz I didn't note the BIOS version before I updated it). - That didn't work.
    2. Reseated the wireless card - Didn't work.
    3. Manually checked the connection of bluetooth module to the motherboard - Connection was fine but it still didn't work.
    4. Uninstalled the bluetooth driver and reinstalled it (HP integrated module WIDCOM) - still didn't work
    5. Installed HP Wireless Agent - Didn't work
    6. Installed HP Integrated module driver along with HP Wireless Agent - Didn't work
    7. Installed Ubuntu to check if its recognizing the device - Even its not recognizing the device which it used to do earlier.
    8. Sadly there's no BIOS setting in Setup which I can change to correct the bluetooth behaviour (Phoenix BIOS with limited interface).
After all the research, I am posting this because I am unable to find a sloution to this problem on my own. I request the members to please help.
    Uday

I got the bluetooth working. Had to dismantle the laptop and found that a small switch was loose.
