K9copy issues ripping
After some use and ripping in the past using k9copy it's come to the present day that for some reason i ripping doesn't seems to work "right"
After tryign to rip some personal dvds (marriages, baptisms, holidays) it seems that i have some issue when i start the operation .
for example i inserted some dvd to rip and when i select the mencoder using the copy profiles for audio/video the ripping will crash usually at 51% , and some other times when i select the x264 profile it seems to work flawlessly . dont know the reason this is happening as in the past it used to work alright.
Having set up the exact same OS/software on a friend's PC it seems to work without problems with all profiles.
When i executed it in the terminal i was getting some errors about libdvdread. (sorry i m not posting the output as i m at work now and dont have the machine in front of me, i ll post it later) i have tried both libdvdread /libdvdnav from both extra / aur / and an external user repo all failing with the same message. i ll try to reproduce it if it helps however i m still sorry if this has been asked again , didn't find the same question being asked .
p.s. or i m just a noob when it comes to usign the search button

After ripping about 75 cds everything slowed down. Help- is it cache issue?
Please help me out. I am new to this. I ripped about 100 cds into itunes and everything slowed where I couldnt rip and listen at the same time, or use other programs for that matter. Definitely a RAM issue or so it seems. I cleared my temp internet files to see if it would help, but no. I had also downloaded some updates by coincidence around the same time so i restored my puter back to yesterday thinking that was those updates. Everything went back to normal and started ripping quickly 10x, 11x while playing tunes and me surfing. Now it slowed again about 75 cds later. No reason why. i didnt do anything but rip the tunes.
Is there some play to clear the RAM or cache or something? What is stealing away my resources. Rebooting does not help.
I hope you can!!!
Thanks a lot !!NOT true. Going back does not reverse all the work you have done. It simply restores settings and files to where they were. All the cds I burned remained as did every other file i created or edited.
But going back is not recommended and certainly shouldnt be done regularily. -
Having issue of ripping a cd into my iTunes
I'm having an issue on ripping my cd into my iTunes how can I fix that?
I am having the same issue, which is this: I attempt to rip a cd to Apple Lossless (using an external LG burner). It starts, gets all the way to the end of the track, then it continues in a holding pattern, never moving on to the next track.
If you stop, exit and try again, it will tell you that you have imported that first track, which is not found in iTunes.
In other words, iTunes will no longer import tracks from cd's. iMac mid 2010 2.93 GHz/8GB RAM -
Has anyone experienced an issue with ripping cd's to their MBP? Everytime I rip a music cd using iTunes it gets about halfway through the cd and then iTunes freezes and the disc drive acts like its struggling to read the disk. I have experienced this issue on this program on two different MBP's so I don't think its a technical issue. Does anyone know of any other programs that I could use to rip my music (Free would be awesome). I tried to drag and drop but it estimated an insane amount of time?
Thanks everyone!
JohnAre MBP's Disc Drives usualy really sensitive. I tried just for the fun of it to drag and drop the song that it froze on to the hard drive and again it froze and said it had an error. I am experiencing this same problem with maybe 3 out of every 5 cd's?

I post this under optical drive issues because that's the only place I can think of for it.
I've been trying to rip several movies and TV shows to my hard drive for iPod use. This used to work fine, but a few months ago it stopped working so well. Now, every time I do, after ~52 minutes the video and audio lock up, so I just get a still frame with no sound for about a half hour, where the video picks up again from that point, missing a whole 30 or so minutes of the movie.
I recently bought an external optical drive to test if that was the problem, but the external drive does the same thing, which makes me think it's either a hardware problem outside of the disc drive, or a software problem.
A quick note - PLAYING any DVDs works perfectly fine, with none of these issues. I've tried ripping with several programs, such as MacTheRipper, Handbrake, OSEx, and MPEG Streamclip for non-CSS discs, and all turn up the exact same result.
Any help with this?Sorry, but discussions about how to rip commercial (and hence copy-protected) DVDs are forbidden here by the Terms of Use for the Discussions. So we're not allowed to help you with your issue in these forums.

We recently purchased a WTR54GS for evaluation as a travel router.
The basic function of the router works fine, however, when NAT is disabled and the Internet interface is connected to an upstream router running RIP version 2, the upstream router will not learn about the WTR54GS's directly connected Ethernet interface.
After performing some packet capture with Ethereal, I determined this issue to be due to an invalid next hop IP address specified in the WTR54GS's outgoing RIP update. I've checked for a firmware update for this router, but there is none.
Does anyone have any ideas about this? I have attached the packet details of the outgoing RIP v2 update from the WTR54GS. Note that the packet is a broadcast, although true RIP v2 should be a multicast packet on 224.0.0.9
Packet details:
No. Time Source Destination Protocol Info

As you can see, the outgoing update from the Internet interface of the WTR54GS indicates that 192.168.16.0 /24 is accessible via 192.168.16.1. Obviously, if the upstream router doesn't have a static route indicating that 192.168.16.0 /24 is available via the WTR54GS's Internet interface's IP address, then 192.168.16.0 /24 will be unreachable.

You can try the below and update as to what is the effect.
1) Try increasing the interpacket delay for RIP updates. By default its none, but you may want to introduce a delay just in case to check if the packets being dropped is the reason for some routers not reflecting the updates.
Router(config)# router rip
Router(router-config)#output-delay 15
2) Alternatively you can try triggered updates on the links connecting to your DSL routers. This will send updates only when there is a change and keep the periodic updates suppressed.
Router(config-if)#ip rip triggered
Please do update what is the effect.

Feeling Ripped Off - Logic Express 9 Upgrade Issue
Hi, I have been using Logic Express 8 for about a year. I just bought the upgrade for Logic Express 9. I started installing it, entered the serial number and then I was prompted to enter the serial number for my Logic Express 8.
I have since misplaced my LE 8 booklet with the serial number on the back (a bunch of stuff didn't make it to my new apartment in a move). I didn't think this would be a big deal. I thought I would be able to find the serial number of my current version of LE 8 by clicking on the "About Logic Express" tab when I have the program running. However, when you click this all you get is who it is registered to (me) and the version number (8.02).
I called technical support and asked them where I can find the serial number and they said sure, "click on About Logic Express when you have the program open and it will be right there (he also called it the splash page)." It wasn't and isn't. The tech support person said "ah yes, only the previous versions of Logic Express show you the serial number of the version you currently are running." I asked if there was anywhere else that I could find this number and he said "no."
Solutions? He suggested I find my receipt and fax it in and get a new serial number. Impossible, I don't have the receipt. Call the store and see if they can dig it up. Let's get real. It was purchased with Xmas money in cash I got from my parents.
Basically, I'm screwed. I have an opened LE 9 upgrade that I can't return. I have a version of LE 8 that I legally purchased and for some dumb reason there isn't a file or page or something in the program that notes my serial number.
Not fair. I guess I have to tattoo all serial numbers for stuff I purchase from Apple to my arms on the chance that I lose a booklet. Why Apple doesn't include a file or store the serial number of the LE version you are running somewhere on the system is beyond me.
So, I feel ripped off. Apple doesn't care. I thought there would be some way we could work this out (like printing the screenshot of the page that says I am the registered owner) but they would rather try to get another $100 out of a loyal Apple customer and force me to buy LE 9 straight up. I've probably spent about $7,000 on Apple stuff in the past 6 years. I am the definition of a loyal customer.
Not fair. You didn't buy Logic Express, you merely paid for the right to use it. When you install it, you are presented with the license agreement to which you must agree.
At the top of the agreement it reads "IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THE LICENSE, YOU MAY RETURN THE APPLE SOFTWARE TO THE PLACE WHERE YOU OBTAINED IT FOR A REFUND...."
So, try taking it back to the store and telling them you declined the license agreement and want a refund.
You can find a copy of the Logic Express license agreement here: http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/logicexpress.pdf -
Dbpoweramp song name issue/free program that rips MP3s with song titl
Hi,
I was just wondering if there is a way around paying for the DbpowerAmp in order to get it to provide the song titles when you rip to MP3 format. I've ripped around 20 Cds - am I going to have to go in manually and add track numbers and titles? If so, and I go through all that hassle, will that carry over to Creative's songs when I import them into the software (all the titles i've added)?
Thanks!!!DBPowerAmp is one of the best MP3 rippers around for 4 reasons:
. It's highly configurable to your preferred naming format, and can be expanded to support other compression formats with plugins.
2. It's accurate.
3. It's fast - in fact, it's the fastest CD ripper available.
4. It's completely free.
You should not have to pay for any part of it. When you install DB Power Amp, it comes with a program called "CD Audio Input". Use that to rip your CDs. It should be pre-configured to connect to the free online CD database (freedb.org) and will automatically try to get the CD titles when you start it up. If it doesn't then it means you are either behind a firewall (is it on a work computer?), or you are not connected to the internet, or freedb.org is down (unlikely).
The options allow you to configure how the MP3 tracks are named, and once correctly configured, you should never need another MP3 ripper.
If you are having problems using it, I would suggest going to the DBPowerAmp website for support - it will be worth it! Trust me.
If you need to tag existing MP3's, then I'd recommend Media Monkey. Again, it's free (for the basic version anyway), and allows you to perform bulk ID3 tag editing on your existing music collection.Message Edited by nanite2000 on 02-8-2005 0:48 AM -
Indesign CS4 colour issues with Onyx 7.3 RIP
Hi all. I understand that Onyx Production house and postershop are having problems with colours dropping to white or changing to a completely different colour when sent from Indesign CS4 or a PDF created from the programme. I want to swap to indesign completely, but find myself having to go back to Quark, because the results I get in the rip from indesign files are so random. Has anyone found a solid work around?
Thanks in advance for your helpInDesign can often send more complex postscript than the other apps, it is after all, dealing with a lot more types of information all at the same time. The problem comes in when ID invokes a part of the Postscript standard that hasn't been properly implemented in the RIP.
As you've seen, a workaround that commonly is successful is to export, or even print, to PDF, and sned tot he RIP from Acrobat.

My phone worked only while it was on a charger. I took it in to have the battery replaced. Afterward, my phone wouldn't work at all. He says my board is bad and offers me my $60 back that I paid for battery replacement and he keeps my phone for replacement parts. I think I'm getting scammed. What do you think?
Thanks for all of the replies. I wanted to post an update as a courtesy. This store has had my phone for 5 days. Yesterday, after testing, he said my board is defective. He wanted to put it in a diferent case, but he didn't have time, so I gave him another day. Went in the next day, still not done, but offered me my $60 back, but he was going to keep my phone for extra parts. I said no, I wanted to keep it. So I went in the next day to pick it up. Again, it wasn't ready. I told him I'll come back later to pick it up, he said OK. I went in again today, it still wasn't ready. I said I want my phone NOW, so he conceded and looked at my phone, said "hmmm...it appears to be working. Maybe it was the port." I just took my phone and got the **** out of there. I've been using it for the past 3 hours and it hasn't shut down on me and the battery is still full. All I gotta say is, don't go to anyone but the original maker. Lesson learned. Thanks for bearing with me.

Making an iTunes library protected against ripping onto CD, listen only
Hi there
we have a security issue with itunes. We are a secure college within an HMP&YOI and we use 16 imacs in two rooms. We have installed the same master music library (currently 8500 tunes)on each machine and all students have access to it under their own account.
Our problem is this. 1 (How) is it possible to make a library read only, i.e. so it is not burnable onto a CD, for copyright protection. We want the lads to be able to hear the music without being able to 'rip' it to CD.
2. Is it possible to split the library into two libraries, making the content of one burnable and the content of the second not burnable. This way we can offer them instrumentals and original titles for burning and commercial copyright protected titles for listening only.
NB None of the content has been downloaded from the itunes store.
Your help on this matter would be very much appreciated.

Music dept
HMP & YOI AshfieldHi Patrick
Your solution to the problem seemed to be the answer but I now have another problem: not all the macs in the music room can 'see' i.e. share the new intel mac.
They are all connected via a Belkin switch using ethernet and sharing is enabled in all machines. Some of the iSite white iMacs can be seen by the new intel mac but they cannot 'see' the new intel mac. How can an ethernet connection work only one way ? We are using standard ethernet two way cable. All machines are running 10.5.3 apart from the new mac which is happy running 10.4.11.
If I could get all the macs in the room to 'see' the new intel machine, then we could run the intel machine as the Master iTunes Library and share it as you suggest 'read-only' to the other machines.
Has anyone any suggestions as to why this is happening ? Is there something other than turning sharing on in system prefs that one has to do to enable two communication between all machines ?
Thanks

My iTunes library and metadata/ID3 tags issue
Since 2010, iTunes is the only media player I use to play music. My library consists of music purchased from the iTunes Store, CD rips and stuff many artists these days release as freebies on the internet to promote a new album. Also, M4A and MP3 are the only formats I use so far.
Since iTunes, I really got into editing my library's metadata tags by hand, in order to create a custom archive which serves my preferences best. I should mention that besides iTunes being the only software I use to play my music library, it's also the only software I use to edit their metadata. Also, before iTunes – when my library was on different media players – I never bothered with editing them.
A few days ago, I found how a lot of people in forums complain about the way iTunes edits and stores metadata. So, I experimented and moved a few of my songs to other media players after editing their tags within iTunes. And indeed the tags and/or artwork were often displayed messed up and/or incorrect, some times partially and some times completely.
Some people were referring to the version of the ID3 tags being the issue, while others suggested using the "convert ID3 tags" feature. I myself am a little bit confused. "Converting the ID3 tags" wasn't available for my M4A files and once I performed it for my MP3's I didn't know which setting I should apply or what version to choose. I chose one version randomly but I'm not sure what happened.
My goal is to make my music library able to play and display my custom metadata on the majority of the popular media players. I hope that firstly this is possible and that secondly it won't be a solution which requires me going through every single song individually.
I really hope that all those years work on my library wasn't for nothing.
I'm using a MacBook running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and my iTunes version is 10.7
While my music library is more important that my iTunes version, I do like iTunes 10 more than 11.
I apologize for any grammar mistakes, since English is not my first language. Thank you all for your time and any suggestion is welcome.itsjamesd wrote:
Hello turingtest2 and thank you for your reply.
In response to "a possible cause of problems is multiple embedded tags", what exactly does that mean and how can I avoid doing it in the future?
Anything ripped with iTunes should get a single tag. If multiple tags in some of your older mp3 rips are the cause of the problems when you try to access the files elsewhere then you should apply the suggested remedy selectively, not to the whole library indiscriminately. Once fixed you shouldn't have the problem again unless you use different ripping software. If so check the options to ensure you generate a single ID3v2.3 tag. Downloads from elsewhere are pot luck.
If I use Convert ID3 Tags>None before converting to v2.3 as you suggested, how many times is "several times" and why do I have to do it more than once? Also, what are your thoughts on 'v2.3 vs. v2.4'?
Several is at least two, but more could be needed if a file has both v1 and v2 tags in multiple languages. If there are two tags, the first conversion to none should remove the first one, and the second conversion the second. Experiment, And stick to v2.3.
In response to "the process removes any embedded art but otherwise preserves the data that iTunes knows". All fields excluding cover art remain the same? Does that mean that I will have to start from scratch and apply new cover art individually for each album? That would be too time consuming given the fact that I embed custom art.
Yes, everything but artwork is held in the iTunes database and is restored with the final Convert ID3 Tags... v2.3. Use Doug's scripts SaveAlbumArtJpeg before you start and RestoreArtworkFromAlbumFolder afterwards to save and the restore your existing artwork.
Also, what happens with my M4A files' metadata? ID3 tags are only used for MP3's, right?
Yes, m4a/aac files have a different tag mechanism. Multiple ID3 tags is just one possible issue that you might have. You said:
So, I experimented and moved a few of my songs to other media players after editing their tags within iTunes. And indeed the tags and/or artwork were often displayed messed up and/or incorrect, some times partially and some times completely.
It might be worth going into some more detail about exactly what differences you noticed. iTunes can automatically associate (instead of embedding) artwork when it can match the album in the store which could be why some tracks didn't get artwork.

Can no longer recommend Fascinate due to non-support of issues - class action time?
I loved my Fascinate when I got it, but the failure of Verizon to promptly resolve KNOWN software issues with known-to-Verizon solutions constitutes something dangerously close to fraud. Like others, I was promised a prompt upgrade to Froyo by a Verizon rep when I bought the phone. Like others. my GPS performance is terrible, with frequent delays of 10 minutes to infinity to achieve a location lock. Like others, I let my 30 day return expire because I was promised a software fix was coming out Real Soon Now, so now I am screwed.
The issue is NOT the delayed Froyo update, the issue is that the phone does not function as promised by Verizon when sold. Knowing sale of a defective product that does not meet its advertised features is fraudulent under the commercial code in any state of the union.
Therefore I am doing some of the few things I can do under the circumstances:
First of all, new buyers are warned that the phone DOES NOT WORK as advertised in many cases due to software issues with GPS, email push, and other features. If you buy it, don't expect it to work. If you are promised otherwise by a Verizon store or rep, be warned that the promises are empty. Be warned that the Verizon implementation of Bing en lieu of Google search and other disruptions of the base Google services makes the phone almost unusable compared to a true Android environment such as that on certain other Android phones and providers. Bing is terrible. VZNavigator is a rip off (and terrible). If you are a lawyer interested in a class action against Verizon related to thi sphone be aware that you should have plenty of interested parties. Personally I would like my service fees waved for the period from September when I bought the phone through whenever-they-actually-make-it-work with debugged software. It is clear that engineering KNOWS how to make the GPS work even without a full Froyo update - they just haven't released a patch.
I wish I could love this phone - but I can't recommend it any more to any one for any reason until Samsung/Verizon fix the software and de-Bing and de-bloat an otherwise excellent piece of hardware. This is EXACTLY what Apple got right, and that Verizon has wrong. A pox on them and their bloatware and BIng and broken search functions. It's like a bad dream. Swapping the hardware out for another Fasicinate won't fix it. I'm stuck.Do I actually expect to see a suit? No, not really. But, message reads on the first page of the Fascinate forum suggest that as of now at least 4000 potential Fascinate owners may have received enough reasons to consider either a different phone or a different carrier. Verizon execs might have a look over the fence at IPhone land, where there is a mob wielding torches and pitch forks that loves their iPhones (but hates ATT for the poor service experience). Provide even average service and you build brand loyalty that overcomes almost any foul up. Give your customers good reasons to hate you, and they surely will.
Today I drove a 30 mile round trip with a fresh A-GPS almanac and never got GPS located closer than 1100 yards. If it ever DOES synch, it will be good to 10 ft. and stay locked until I go indoors. If. The Bluetooth refused to connect (again). Works great WHEN it actually occasionally works though. The hardware can do it. The software is a bad joke. Is is Samsung's fault? Maybe. Could Verizon provide a timely fix by internal or Samsung resources? Definitely. Samsung has fixed these issues for other markets long ago. The shame is that it takes what could be a great experience and sours it all. It's not about Froyo, it's about having basic features that work. While some of thse phones work perfectly, some combination of hardware and software issues means that too many customers did not receive what the paid for, and they have good reason to be angry with Verizon for the poor experience and callous treatment. -
Safari Issues - Mavericks 10.9.1
Hi everyone.
I have been having major issues with Safari in the last week.
Basically, when I first open the App, it doesn't open. It is displayed in the Menu Bar at the top as being open, but it's not.
The only way I can actually get the Safari window to open is to Reset Safari from the menu (Which I have done).
All of my bookmarks have disappeared, and pages cease to load properly.
I constantly get the pinwheel of death, and can't exit out of tabs!
After browsing the support communities, these are the actions I have taken:
Reset Safari
Disable Extensions, Plug-Ins - Removed appropriate files from Library.
Attempt to access the Safari file in my library (see photo below - it appears to be somewhat missing? Along with messages and mail, which I have also had issues with, not a big deal because I do not use these apps frequently on my Macbook)
And lastly, I have reinstalled/reset Mavericks about 3 times.
I have copied and pasted the Diagnostic Report in hope that somebody is able to help me.
Please let me know if i've included the correct information and whether or not there is anything else I can provide to help diagnose the problem!
