K9M6SGM-V supports AM3 socket??

Hi guys..
I have a MSI mother board (K9M6SGM-V) and my processor AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core is giving me hints that its gonna die soon..
I have my eyes on AMD 3.5 GHz AM3 Phenom II 970 Processor and just wanted to know whether it will be supported by my motherboard??
Probably it will not, but just wanted to confirm.. Also, if possible, what could be the best motherboard for the same processor?? Preferred MSI or Asus..
Thanks..

Or to put it simple the answer is no. You have a AM2 board there. Only some AM2+ boards would also support AM3 cpus.

Ah, we will of course solely recommend MSI products as this is an MSI forum. There are many good boards but what kind of board you want? High-end, value, onboard vga or no onboard vga?

  • 890fxa-gd65 with amd fx6100 am3+ socket

Hi all, I'm having trouble rebuilding a pc.  I have the 890fxa-gd65 mainboard (which states that is supports am3+) and for the cpu i have amd fx6100 am3+.  I bought the card in December 2011, according to the msi website cpu support, the FX series is supported with a bios update (which was supposed to have been applied before they shipped the board).  Looking at the bios versions, it shows initial support of am3+ in April 2011, but the version of bios they list next to the FX series cpu came out in September 2011.  I'm wondering if my board really got the updated bios to support this cpu.
Here are the symptoms.  With everything plugged up, i get no video (monitor says there is no signal), and I get no lights on the mouse except for a quick blip of the lights, then looks like no power to mouse or it is turned off.  Also, i get no audible beeps to indicate anything is happening.  All fans are running, and all 8 mainboard leds are lit solid.
I tried removing things one by one and still no beeps to indicate anything.  I have tried with just one memory stick (I'm using ddr3 1600).  same problem.  I tried it without any memory...expecting to hear that beep.  I tried it with nothing attached to the board, no video, no hard drive, no dvd...still nothing to indicate an error.
I would upgrade the bios to the newest version, but of course can't since it won't even post.  I have no older cpu i could put in it to use temporarily just to upgrade the bios.
Any ideas on how to solve this?
    Thanks.

It depends on when the MB left the factory, most likely it left the factory before the updated BIOS was available. What is the BIOS number printed on the sticker on the BIOS chip?
You need at least I4 (18.4) for the FX6100
To flash the BIOS you would need to take it to a local shop to do it for you which could cost very little or much more than you're willing to pay, depends on the shop. You could send it back to the store you bought it from and see if they will do it. You could buy a cheap supported Sempron CPU and do it yourself.

    Hi,
Does Java2 support raw socket programming? If not, are there any third-party libraries providing such support? Thanks for any comments!

    no,
first result on google would suggest so.

  • HTTPS support in socket object?

Is there any support for HTTPS requests in the socket object? I know there is a BUNCH of data encryption that needs to go on and I'm not sure if indesign has anything built in to do so.

no need...  falconindy has already coded a switch from libfetch to libcurl.  https support will be there once that is finished.
Oh man those pacman devs are so cool they just add features even if you don't want too

  • Why does not java support raw sockets?

Java does not have support for raw sockets, that means it cannot receive the packet header, just the payload data.
But the header data of an ICMP packet consists of 20 bytes, and you can still write single bytes in Java, so why isn´t is possible to write a header for an ICMP packet in Java?
Can someone explain how it all works?
    Thanks!

You can do raw sockets with third party libraries. They won't be pure java - but you didn't really expect to do raw sockets on your cell phone or TV set top box, or spy and spoof someone's network using an applet.
The FAQ for one such library hints what kind of a mess raw sockets are due to differences in common operating systems; see http://www.savarese.com/software/rocksaw/

  • Operation Not Supported on Socket/Backup disc wont mount

For a few months I have been wirelessly backing on a G5 iMac and Intel Macbook to a partition on a G4 mac mini with no problems. All are on Leopard and all updates applied.
    I now cant:
connect to the Time Machine backup
    back up
    mount the sparesbundle
Help! I have recently lost a harddrive on my mini and macbook so def want to back up!
The error I get when I try to do the above is either "the backup disk could not be mounted' or 'not supported on this socket"
I recently ran all updates. Also, until yesterday I had only used that partition for back ups. I used it to transfer iTunes music then deleted the folder and wondering if this has affected it.
    Thanks!
    Gus

I run Time Machine between a dual G4 and an external RAID 1 drive connected by Firewire; no problems there, but I also decided to back up a Mac Mini to the same drive via Time Machine, over the network and through the G4 to reach the external drive. I wasn't expecting the sparsebundle structure to be created on the drive-- I had not heard of a sparsebundle before and thought Time Machine on the Mac Mini would create a backup structure similar to the one the G4 had created on the external drive, as I gather happens with a networked disk like Time Capsule. In any case, the Mac Mini created and populated the sparsebundle fine the first time it backed up and continued to add to it hourly/daily, but a few days later, after restarting the machines, the sparsebundle could no longer be mounted. I thought it might be something shaky in the Firewire link to the external drive, so I also tried backing up to a G4 internal drive which would then be backed up by the G4's Time Machine to the external drive. Same result-- the sparsebundle backup worked the first time and continued hourly/daily, but could no longer be mounted after restarting. (This seems to me like a simpler situation than some in the discussion, where people are dealing with a sparsebundle via a different machine than created it.) Permission fixing with chmod does not seem to have helped thus far, though I am not so familiar with chmod as to be sure I am doing it right. I'm approaching this incrementally, as I've heard the warnings about chmod's power and I'm not in a crisis mode at the moment, e.g., having lost data I really need to recover. Still, it seems reasonable to me to be able to use networked machines to spread valuable data recoverably across different physical drives, so I'm wondering why it is not simpler.

  • 790xt-g45

Ok I bought a 790xt-g45 board a while ago and I've been using a AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ BE for a while and I want to upgrade I bought this boarding reading on newegg and the box that it supports AM3 sockets. When I go to the support page it doesn't list any AM3 sockets, do anyone have any insight as to what AM3 cpu's work with this board?

    Hi,
Follow Mike's advise. I got my 790XT-G45 last June and have been using it with my P2X4 945 every since with 0 problems. This is a 4-core AM3 processor and I have been running at stock speed (3GHz) with Cool 'n Quiet or with a 20% (3.6GHz) overclock without Cool 'n Quiet (needed a 0.05v CPU power boost for stability). I'm using a Cooler Master Hyper N520 CPU cooler, which does a good job keeping my processor core temperatures down while running the cooler fan at half speed (very quiet).
Except for the number and control of system fan headers, I am very happy with this mobo (the BIOS-based CPU cooler support is great). I solved my system fans (front, side, and back) issue with a NZXT Sentry-2 fan controller (5 3-pin headers with independent temperature sensor-based controls for each one - highly recommended).
I have also been using the 2.5 BIOS since it came out, last August (sorry Mike, couldn't resist trying it). Sm3K3R, what DRAM settings and possible USB issues are you referring to in the 2.5 BIOS? My DRAM has a standard CL5 mode (1.8v) and an enhanced CL4 mode (1.9v). I'm able to setup up either one in the BIOS. I also have not had any problems with my USB devices (multifunction printer, keyboard & mouse, camera, and MP3 player). Don't know if it matters, but I also keep my mobo and device drivers and OS updates at their latest versions.

  • Is my 790GX-G65 (MS-7576) Socket AM2+ (940) or Socket AM3 ???

Im a bit confused on this subject,as cpu-z is reporting my motherboard as a Socket AM2+ (940), because i thought it was a AM3 motherboard, the very reason i bought it.
Am i missing something or am i genuinely thick
    can anyone please enlighten me

The difference is mainly in support for DDR3, hence the 3 in AM3. By pin count the programs can't see a difference if they don't have a list of all MSI  (AM2 and AM3) motherboards to compare with.
    Here is from Wikipedia:
"Socket AM3 breaks compatibility with AM2/AM2+ processors due to a subtle change in key placement. The AM3 socket has 941 pin contacts[1] while current AM3 processors have only 938 pins. Tom's Hardware removed the two obstructing key pins from an AM2+ Phenom processor in order to fit it into an AM3 socket. The processor did not work in the AM3 socket, but still worked in an AM2+ socket, suggesting that compatibility issues run deeper than merely the key pins.[4]"

  • 890gxm-g65 and AM3+ support

My computer has a gigabyte board and am getting ready to upgrade my CPU from the FX-4100 to the 6300 piledriver...
My nephew lives with me and is an amateur computer ethusiast ...  I myself have never done anything with bios updates and such but here is my question
His board is the MSI 890gxm-g65, it normally supports the am3 socket CPUs..  but looking at MSI's website.. it says with a bios update it can support AM3+ CPUs.. according to Everest Ultimate..  his current bios version is 1.6..  I am wondering if that bios will support the FX-4100 or if i need to get him an updated bios version and need to better understand how to update or "flash" the bios..  any help would be appreciated..  thank you in advance
also i know this is an old question..  the AM3+ support for these boards came out a couple years ago..  I am just new to bios updating and flashing..  and not sure how to proceed..  I know that this particular board will support the AM3+ socket CPUs..  but i am not sure his boards BIOS is the right version or not

That MB requires at least BIOS 1.C for FX-4100.
     Download BIOS file here:

Use the forum flash tool to flash the BIOS, see here how to do it:

  • 890GXM-G65 AM3+/black socket

Hi all. Just wanted to know if the 890GXM-G65 will be getting a black socket/AM3+ revision in the near future...since it is certified AM3+ but the one on the site still has a white/AM3 socket (BD/FX chips won't fit). Thanks.

Ask MSI: >>How to contact MSI.<<
As we are not MSI we don't know.

  • Does the motherboard model L-NC51M support Phenom II X2 cpus

I have the 3000 J115 model and I found out the motherboard it uses is model L-NC51M.  I'm trying to upgrade my cpu and I'm wonder where I can find a list of cpu types that this board supports.
Or if anyone knows of the top of their head which types, that would be nice too.

    Hi,
According to HP's specifications, the socket in the CQ5700f is AM3 rated at 95 watts.
Some AMD processor models come in both 95 watt and 125 watt models.
In theory this AMD processor list for AM3 sockets rated at 95 watt should work.  I wouldn't try the "B" models.
Know what the return policy is before your buy.
Install the latest bios posted for your PC and make sure that your PC is stable before installing a new processor. Clear the CMOS before booting up your PC with the new processor.

  • Upgrading from K9A2 to AM3: What board for Win2k?

I know that anything having to do with Digital Rights Management won't work with Win2k, but I was wondering which AM3 socket board would offer "pretty good" support for Win2k in terms of drivers.
In some instances there's simply no Win2k driver download available, and I don't know if the installer immediately barfs on Win2k systems, or if you could unpack drivers individually so that ALMOST everything would work.
I'm using Windows 2000 Server to access all four cores ...
Note:  I'm not a gamer and not heavy into multi-media stuff, so more basic audio/video operation would be OK.

Quote from: Fredrik on 10-March-11, 23:22:11
Isn't it better to trim your current system for what W2000 likes best, office work and networking maybe, and have a separate system for media handling, gaming and such? I imagine this would amount to less money and work and difficulties.
My problem at the moment is just locating any AM3 mainboard with ANY chipset drivers for Win2k.
I hate activation / "phoning home" to M$, so I've avoided upgrading to XP.
I know that XP Pro would give me support for the cores I have and most any chipset. It looks like I could go that route pretty cheaply, but I don't know how ugly it would be to put a non-server OS over top of a server installation, even though I'm just using Win2k Server as a fast workstation.
I've also considered crossing over to some flavor of Linux and running windows apps under WINE (whatever). I've had very modest Linux experience years ago, and don't know how much of a nightmare that change would be.
I like the idea of having a 64-bit OS some day, but I've always been afraid that any newer version of Windows would be so bloated compared to the older ones that any added performance gains would be more than offset by the snails pace of the OS / "new and improved" apps ...
I've loved Win2k because it was the first version of the OS where USB support REALLY worked, and the kernel was relatively light and fast compared to what followed.
Thinking about getting everything to work all over again on a new platform makes me CRINGE, and I've been at this for decades!

  • Mobo support for FX, please!

With the launch of the new FX chips with AM3+ socket type, it allows a person to upgrade a system without replacing RAM, Mobo, and various other components.
Problem: Motherboard BIOS updates for these chips.
I kindly ask if there is going to be any support for FX chips in older strictly AM3+ motherboards, and if so, may I ask a generalized time frame for release?
I'm a big advocate of MSI and promote them very well to friends that prefer ASUS and other brands, while they have problems, MSI remains rock solid. I would hope to keep this great and positive track record for such a wonderful product. Thanks in advance.
