K9N neo - F, Stuttering / harddrive over reading / caching noticeable in games.

I've been experiencing a really strange issue, my hard drive seems to be over reading / caching , It's mostly noticeable in BF2, and in world of warcraft, it sputters for a split second then the game goes back into smooth game play. It happens every 20 seconds or so really irritating lol. My settings for the games are medium detail levels nothing to taxing on the ram, the system I had previously 3000+ w/ DDR 400 1 gig and a 9800 pro I had no issues and it actually loaded maps faster under the same graphic settings. One harddrive is a sata samsung 160 gig, the other is an IDE 120 gig western digital. Both 7200 rpm 8 megs cache. The previous system I had ran these games fine with no issue under the same graphic settings, so it's really odd.
Some of the things I've tired:
I tried using a totally different hard drive with the OS / games and it does the same thing
I've ran a diag tool on both harddrives and they check outfine
I've checked out the ram specs and tried setting them manually, 5 5 5 12, and using auto (thinking it may be something with the ram possibly.)
I've disabled SMART in bios which didn't do anything.
I've messed around with disabling spredspectrum which didn't do anything
I tired using on board sound and ditching the audigy thinking mabey the sound was causing lag issues, cause when it sputtered the sound would lag for a split second, unfornately didn't do anything.
Any suggestions would be greatly appericated, it's a really strange issue that I haven't encountered before, tried everything I could think of. Thanks.

Not sure about it. Have you tried to benchmarks for the HDD? Did you do any bios flashing recently? Have you tried reset the bios? If increased the PCI-X bus to 104MhZ is there any different?

I also play WoW.. I get the stuttering too. I cant completely get rid of it but i got it down to a minimum. If i read your post right you have 1gig of ram.. Same here. WoW runs best on 2 gigs. When you hearth into IF or ride the gryphon there are so many new items/textures loading that your pagefile is working overtime hence the hard drive light is in contant flicker. The best solution as i said is to get 2 gigs of ram.. Another solution that i used that seemed to help is to set my pagefile to a diff hard drive. I run 2 Seagates 8meg cache 7200 rpm and disabled pagefile on drive c and put it on drive f. By putting it on another drive it will run faster with less hickups as you utilize both drives for better performance instead of one. If you want to try it let me know ill tell you how..
Please create your own rig and post it in details including the PSU and Bios revision so others can help you!! Not sure if your HDD need to update the firmware from the Seagate if you're using the SATAII. Gd luck.

  • K9N Neo-F, just over a week old and now won't boot.

Having trouble with a new build using a MSI K9N Neo-F motherboard.  I suspect my Motherboard is faulty :( and plan on sending it back to Newegg for replacement unless someone has something else for me to try.  Here’s the original configuration:
    MSI K9N Neo-F motherboard (MS-7260 Ver 1.0 w/ 1.3 BIOS)
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ (65W – 2.4 GHz Windsor ADO4600CUBOX)
    Gskill F2-6400CL4D-2GBPK (DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 @ 1.9~2.0V)
Gigabyte GV-NX76T256D-RH (GeForce 7600 GT) video card
    Rosewill AP-500X (3.3V 30A, 5V 45A, 12V 22A)
    NEC ND-3520A CD/DVD Burner
    Seagate ST3320620AS SATA2 hard drive
For the first few days, everything appeared to work ok (though I had to leave the SATA 150 compatibility jumper on the hard drive in order for the motherboard to recognize it  ).  After day 3, it started locking up randomly (no blue screen) and restarting automatically, both while under high load and virtually no load at all.  Past day 5, it’s now to the point where it locks up even in the BIOS, and that’s only when I can get it to POST (otherwise, all I get is fan spinning and a blank screen, not even a beep).
The first thing I tried after day 5 was replacing the PSU with a Silverstone SST-ST56F 560 W PSU I have on hand for another build (this PSU is extremely well made and heavy by the way  ).  I figured this 560W monster could easily power the setup above, however the setup remained as unstable as ever.  I did notice in the BIOS while looking at the voltages before it locked up that the Vcore is jumping all over the place, from 1.240V to 1.372V!   I’ve built a fair share of A64 setups and never seen anything like this before.  It seems to point to a failure of a power regulator on the motherboard, just hope it didn’t damage my CPU as a result.
Next suspect was the memory, which I memtested overnight on another AM2 board and passed with no errors.  However, I read on a few other forums that the nVidia 550MCP chipset on the board doesn’t like RAM with a Tras under 15, so I swapped the RAM for another set of Gskill I had on hand (F2-6400CL5D-1GBNQ, DDR2-800 5-5-5-15 @ 1.8~1.9V) and reset the CMOS.  Unfortunately still no luck, it won’t POST half the time and when it does, it locks up less than a minute later while still in the BIOS.
My last shot was removing the 7600GT video card and replacing it with an old Matrox Milenium PCI one I had laying around.  My theory was not only to eliminate the video card from the list of suspects, but also the high power draw on the board that PCIe video cards tend to have.  However, it still fails to POST half the time.  Does anyone have any suggestions of things for me to try before sending back?  Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for quick replies guys!
Bosskiller - Yes, I tested both memory kits on another AM2 motherboard (Asus M2N) for ~24 hours each and both passed with no errors.  I tried setting the Vdim to 2.1 volts in the BIOS (while I was still able to get it to POST fully), but no luck.  However, since it's gotten very unstable and I reset the CMOS, the Vdim is probably back at the default 1.8 volts.  If I could just get it stable enough to make changes in the BIOS without it locking up, at least that would be an improvement.
BAS - As mentioned, I tried using a Silverstone 560W PSU I had on hand with no luck either, that's when I noticed the big fluctuations in Vcore.  Speaking of which, are such fluctuation in the Vcore normal?  I've read several contradictor forum post on the topic and don't know if this is "normal" behavior for the k9n neo-f.
    Thanks again in advance.

  • K9N Neo V3 : PCI-E and PCI-E x1/PCI VGA cards at the same time ?

    Hello,
I'm thinking about getting one more VGA card to resolve my dual screen issue :
    Quote
I use two monitors. PC monitor as first screen, TV is extended for watching videos.
    PC : Philips 220aw (22", 1680x1050 @ 60Hz) DVI-DVI
    TV : LG 42lh3000 (42", 1920x1080 @ 24Hz) DVI-HDMI
I've been trying to get smooth playback on the TV for days, but random stutter happens.
When a video (mostly HD contents) is played on the TV while using the PC monitor, things like minimize/maximize windows, page scrolls stutter and so does the video. Idle while watching videos also stutters randomly.
I tried almost every combinations of renderers/codecs/players, tried by desactivating aero and all the fancy graphics, but it didn't solve the problem.
The only way i get smooth playback on the TV, is by desactivating the PC monitor. (Using nVidia panel or "Win" key+P), so only the TV is active.
I tried with a Blu-Ray using DXVA and it was smooth.
I haven't got a chance to test with a better graphic card yet. This issue doesnt happen on XP though.
    Here are the specs :
    K9N Neo V3
    Athlon 64 x2 @ 3Ghz
    4Go DDR2-800
    8800 GT 512Mo (driver 197.45)
    Win7 Ultimate 32 Bits.
    Corsair 450W 80+
My question is : Can i add a PCI-E x1 or a PCI VGA card on this motherboard, so each screen will have its own VGA card ?
If so, both nVidia or ATI would work ?
    Thank you.

It would be one of these, if it is allowed by the K9N Neo V3.

  • K9N Neo V1 - No Multipliers?

Decided to purchase a 5000+ 64x2 Black Edition today as all accounts suggested it would work well in my MB.. (K9N Neo V1.0) well, it does but I want to over clock it of course!
I found to my horror that my Bios (v1.9) does not allow me to change the multiplier.. I found somewhere that it may be possible to use the bios for a 7250, what I want to know is has anybody actually tried this and does it work?
I have the bios file ready.. I even have the usb flash tool (the one with the included Trojan)
Or should I just buy another board and put this down to experience?

MSI Support did reply and said they sent me the new Bios file via email, they didnt actually send the file but they did give me the files name: A7260NMS.1A2
    I found said file elsewhere.
Re-Downloaded the USB tool you guys kindly made available: MSIHQ Tool 1.17a Stand Alone
Ran that and tried to update the bios.. it didnt work, all I got after pressing F11 (opting to boot from USB) was a blinking cursor.. so...
I read more of this wonderful forum and realised my USB stick was not formatted correctly, so I found the: HP_USB_Boot_Utility
Formatted the USB drive, put the BIOS file back on there and proceeded to use the: USBMSIHQ flash tool (the one with the Trojan that actually isn't a Trojan).
Followed the simple instructions and booted from the USB drive - updated the BIOS to the Beta version.
Now I have control over the FSB Freq (its in the Bios under Cell_xxx(whatever it is) - so, Happy Days.
I now run my 5000+BE at 3ghz, I got there by selecting an FSB of 230 - any higher will not get past POST on my machine.
Thanks to this forum I am happy again... Wonderful work guys - have a game on me: www.uvmeplay.com

  • K9N Neo-F Freeze and restart problem. Help needed!

    Hi there,
I recently bought a Mainboard (K9N Neo-F S/N: 601-7260-010K0605023133) that seems to shutdown every now and then. No blue screen... it just freezes for a while and then shuts down. My CPU temperature is very low, I've used a lot of coolingpaste and I have tried every possible way of mounting memorys... 1,2,4... and in different slots. I've run Memtest also. The BIOS-version is the newest according to the Liveupdate-function. The power supply should be enough but I have tested disconnecting everything else then one harddrive and the mobo... doesn't work.
Sometimes it happens with three hours between the occations and sometimes five minutes. Not related to anything special that is done on the computer.
Is this a problem that is common...? Related to hardware or bios...? I would be glad for any advice you could give.
Thanks in advance. Really need help... this drives me mad...
    /Christian

I started Orthos and then left the computer alone. Went and watched a film, when I got back after 1 hour and 38 minutes or something like that the computer freezed. I will try leaving it on all night without touching a thing... kind of strange that it happens right when I sit down and move the mouse.
Thanks a lot for trying to help... it's appreciated.

  • Mainboard issue. (K9N Neo)

    Hi everyone.
Problem is that my PC completely freeze (After 1 sec in Bootscreen or even BIOS) or after 1 hour. I then have to press on\off button. Sometimes I have to do it many times to even boot. In log it says:
IRQARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI slot 11, function 0.
IRQARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI slot 12, function 0.
IRQARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI slot 13, function 0.
IRQARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI slot 14, function 0.
IRQARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI slot 15, function 0.
I have a MSI K9N Neo Mainboard. PS: Where is the BIOS update for my K9N? In the MB page I only see the LiveUpdate thing, and my Windows is not stable so I wont update from there.... The direct file anyone?
I've tried to reformate and reinstall, but no help. It's HW related. Any ideas?

    , 12-17dBA, 2xSATA, PCI-E, 20/24pin
All temps are good. Nothing is overheating. (As far as I can see)
The Windows MemTest did not find any errors. I've also tried to change brand\sticks\slots. Nothing helps. I've also tried to UN-plug the CD-ROM and tried to change Harddrive. Also the graphic-card. Must be my MSI card... Any other ideas? What does the error message say to you? It's crappy... In the end I will give two choices:
    - Dump the MSI card in the trash
    - Try to update the BIOS
Even if I fail I don't care, because it's (For me) already broken. I can't use my PC anyway.

  • K9N NEO-BIOS ver 1.3: Cool 'n Quiet option missing

    Hey guys,
I recently flashed my BIOS (AMI) to 1.3 for the K9N NEO motherboard and noticed that the Cool 'n Quiet option in the H/W menu group is missing.  I don't know if it was already missing prior to flashing the BIOS, but I am assuming that it was removed since it was already enabled by default.  Is this correct?
I observed the behavior of the machine using CPU-Z after setting the Power Scheme to Minimal Power Management in Windows, but did not notice any drop in voltage nor CPU speed.
Any thoughts on this?  Did they really remove the option from version 1.3 of the BIOS?  How long must the machine remain idle while in Windows for the Cool 'n Quiet feature to kick in?
Thanks in advance for your response!  Here are the specifications of my machine:
    Processor: Sempron 3000+ 1.6GHz
    Motherboard: K9N Neo
    Memory: 1-Generic 512MB DDR2 PC533
    O/S: Windows XP Professional SP2
    Thanks again!

There is no CnQ support for that model Am2 Sempron 3000+
    http://www.hkepc.com/hwdb/am2sempron-1.htm
(so it's just logical the BIOS detects it and hides the CnQ option)
Reason : It runs at just 1.6ghz and as semprons also has the low amount of cache so it already
runs with very little wattage/heat.No sense in having CnQ on it.

I was looking for a 125watt board too and its really hard to find one from MSI that have the things I want, I cant even find a board with Nvidia chipset, amd2+ and support a 125 watt processor (or not tested OK yet) or some boards without a cpu support list yet. So no AM2+ for you if you want a 125watt processor on it and a nvidia chipset. is there any reason why MSI cant fix 125watt support?
If you dont care about a future quadcores upgrade you can buy a old AM2 board, but dont forgot to look at the cpu support list, because the most AM2 boards doesnt support 125watt either.  ???

That is not true, 125W support usually have high end mainboards.

MSI K9N NEO-F V3 Motherboard with BIOS American Megatrends Inc. V2.4
    AMD 64 X2 3.00 Gigahertz
    2 Gigs of RAM
    Windows XP Pro 32 bit
    500 gigs SATA HDD
120 gig and 40 gig IDE HDDs
As it has to be a clean install, I start the computer with the Windows 7 in the DVD drive. I get loading files, Starting Widows and then the background picture (picture with vapour trails, a dove and some grass) for the "Select Language etc." screen. Then nothing, no matter how long I leave it.
Got onto Microsoft and spent 1.5 hours trying to get it to work. We even went into the BIOS, made sure the DVD drive was the first boot device. When I clicked F10 to save and exit I did not get the "Press any key to boot from the CD/DVD", it went back to the beginning of booting.
The disk is OK, it is a Microsoft disk and worked fine when I tested it in my PC.
    Can anyone help, please?

Disconnect the two PATA hard drives.
Make sure the hard drive you're installing Windows on is formatted before running the setup.

Don't know if it is that, but BIOS supports the 5000 BE from v. 2.3. Perhaps you can get help in making sure what BIOS version you got.
It does sound like Bas says processor related. Cause all required power cables are in place, right?
Why the rush in RMA-ing? You must be pretty good at computers to be able to say definitely when it is RMA time, and what to RMA... Or think you are pretty good.
I do computer support for a living but I will be the first to tell you that I don't know everything.  I just don't know what else it could be and I guess I'm anxious to get my new rig up and running!!  BF2 awaits me . . .     It's comforting to hear someone with the same issue so that I don't feel like I'm going crazy here.

  • Crackling sound on Windows 7 x64 with K9N neo V 1.0

    Hi
I installed Windows 7 x64 ultimate on my computer yesterday and everything worked fine except the audio, I installed the latest realtek drivers from MSI for x64 windows vista/7. But still I got the problem that it play fine and suddenly it "cracks" for less than a second and then it's like fastforwarding the missed ~halfsecond.
    My hardware is:
    4600+ X2 amd athlon
    Ms-7260 ver 1.0 k9n neo nForce 550
    6Gb of 667 MhZ kingston ram (2x2GB, 2x1GB)
    GTS250 1024 mb MSI
samsung 500gb internal sata hdd (which windows 7 x64 ultimate is installed on)
    q-tec 650w powersupply
The audio works perfectly in windows xp x86 and has done that the last 3+ years.
Is there a "fix" for this?
    Thanks in advance

Oh man, this is quite some time ago that I could do this...
    here it comes, BRASE YOURSELVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EVERYBODY GET OF THIS FORUM NOW!!
    THERE IS A FIRE HAZARD!!
A Q-TEC POWER SUPPLY HAS BEEN SPOTTED!!
    LEAVE NOW, WHILE YOU CAN!!!!
Man, that's quite some time ago I could do this...
I know, you may find it a bit overdone but really, a Q-Tec PSU is just one piece of junk. It's just some componetns thrown into a box and then they call it a power supply. Did you actually feel the weight of that thing? I bet you didn't. It weighs nothing, so you can't even use it as a door stop or paerweight.
Really, shut down your pc, take it out and throw it away. Be careful not to hit someone while doing that. (I mean, throw it in the bin or take it back to the guy who sold you this thing).
Get a good power supply. One with enough juice on the 12V-line. Take a psu with one 12V-rail. A good psu will cost you, but you will most certainly notice the difference.

  • K9N Neo V3 and SATA DVD-RW, need help

    Hi all!
I've got a K9N Neo V3 mainboard and a Pioneer DVR-215BK DVD-RW (which is a Serial ATA drive). The problem is, when attempting to read any disc (CD or DVD), the drive recognizes it OK - but then hangs the very moment data transfer begins, then after 3-4 attempts (i.e. read-hang-read-hang etc) starts reading, but transfer mode is set to PIO by the OS (I have Windows XP SP2 installed). I can change it back to UDMA 4, but when I load a disc the whole story repeats :( . Reading speed in this mode is not too impressive, of course.
I have upgraded mainboard's BIOS and the writer's firmware to the latest versions; tried NVidia IDE SW drivers; checked the RAM for errors; connected the writer to different SATA ports with different cables; changed RAID mode in BIOS setup - and, of course, surfed the web searching for the solution - and now I'm here... Seems like few people had quite the same problem, but I've tried what they were proposing (even disabling error control for the corresponding IDE channel in Windows registry) - with no result at all.
Here's what I have inside my PC case:
MB and DVD-RW - you already know; RAM: KingMax 2*1024 Mb 800 MHz; HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (SATA); Graphics: NVidia 8800 GS; Sound: Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio; PSU: Delta 500W.
Note: SATA HDD works fine in UDMA 6 mode, without any errors. Any other piece of hardware I have also operates fine...
Hope anyone can tell me what causes this issue and what I can do about it. Is it my DVD-RW or motherboard that's faulty, or some compatibility issue, or I'm just stupid ? Thanks in advance.

Quote from: Nestemat on 28-March-08, 05:11:31
The burner is not the issue , the issue is the motherboard or  some simple bios settings or the bios itself .I have a K9n Neo v2 mcp 520 and it has the same problem dvd-rw under pio , i think the problem is caused by the drivers , because they just won't install
Well, that's at least something! Means I'm not alone.
Yesterday I cleaned up whatever was remaining that could have caused the issue: removed everything but vital components; uninstalled all programs that might use additional drivers (like Nero, WinCinema and such); had the RAM checked again by MemTest86+ 2.01. Well, nothing changed, of course.
Tomorrow I'm taking the system to the dealer I've bought it from (that's gonna be a challenge, we got a lot of snow here   ) - we'll see what the service personnel has to tell me.
I will let you know as soon as the problem is solved.
    Nestemat
In your case - what's the brand and model of your DVD-RW? Have you tried downloading the latest drivers - or maybe your installation CD is bad or a buggy installer? Try installing the drivers manually.

  • Black screen after BIOS update on K9N Neo V2, help pls?

    Hi guys!
    I have K9N Neo V2 motherboard and Athlon X2 5400, I've decided to upgrade and bought Phenom x4 9750.
So I've updated the bios to 3.0O from https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=124305.0 using the instruction, it went fine, I've been using it for a week but found out some bugs (windows blue screen and applications and OS hangups), then I got to restore OS from acronis true image - failed. And then I decided to check if the new bios supports my old athlon or not, I've changed the CPU and started - failed, dark screen no bios, I plugged back Phenom and now it also is not working :((. Have no idea why and what to do now..
Would really appreciate any suggestions and help.
    Thank you in advance

  • [SOLVED] Front audio panel still not working on K9N Neo V3

I already posted on this here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=113813.0.
I still didn't get front audio panel to work on MSI K9N Neo V3.
Even with my new case; Sharkoon Revenge, it is not working. It wasn't working on my previous noname case too. However, front audio panel on my previous case was working on several other MBs except on this MSI K9N.
Now, I'm using the latest Realtek HD audio driver.  I think it's from February '08. Just as with the driver dowloaded by Vista via Windows Update, anything plugged in front audio panel isn't recognized. In this new version of Realtek driver I can't find this Disable front audio panel option so I can't tell if it is checked or not.
Once more, there is not much to do wrong while connecting. Case front audio panel cabel is the same as on all other cases I've ever seen/had. It's a cable with the same number and position of pins as in all other cases. It fits fine on MSI K9N Neo V3. Rear audio panel is working fine.
    Any solution to this!?

From what I can see from the Sharkoon product page, the front panel connectors of your case are not compliant with the Intel HD Audio Pin Standard.
Do you have a manual for your case that includes Pin/wire definitions for the front audio connectors?
No. There was no manual in package. I never thought I will need one either.

Have you tried disabling automatic front panel jack detection in the Realtek HD Audio configuration utility?  If you don't know were to find that option, access the tab labeled "Audio I/O" and click on the tool icon.
Yes, I tried disabling it. Two tabs (front audio out and front mic) appeared but none of it works.
Quote from: HenryW on 07-April-08, 03:35:46
From something I read: You can also physically check the audio cable of the front panel audio solution.  If there is a cable connected to Pin 4, you have an HD Audio module; if there is no cable to Pin 4, you have an AC97 module.
I don't really understand this. Could you please check this on Pin Assignment scan I uploaded above!?

  • Front panel audio jack is not working on K9N Neo V2

My front panel audio jack is not working on K9N Neo V2. I check the JAUD1 cable and it appears to be connected to the front panel audio jack. My soundcard driver cannot detect any gadgets when I plug it in the front panel. My audio drivers and BIOS are up to date.  Is there any known solution to this? My computer is only a few months old and I have not tried the front audio jack until recently. I'm on Vista home premium btw.
Also, I've got another problem, my processor is AMD 64x2 4400+ overclocked to 2.63Ghz. I've been using that clock value ever since I built this computer and stress tested the processor and found that it would not cause any problems like hanging or overheating. However, I recently decided the need for AMD's Cool & Quiet technology and enabled it. It caused BSODs every few days or per week that didn't happen before. I tried it with the default clock value and it still causes BSODs. Can someone help me?

    Quote
Thanks. Its ironic that disabling it actually enables it.
It has to day with the front panel audio wiring of your case.  How many wires are there that can be connected to the board's pin header?

    Sound quality isn't very good
Can you be more descriptive?  Is the quality better if you plug the headphone into one of the jack at the back panel?  (Also, make sure you tell the Realtek HD Audio Manager, that a headphone is connected (and not regular speakers).
