K9N NEO V3 - Heatsink bracket

One of the heatsink clips on the mounting bracket for the CUP heatsink and fan broke loose. Would anyone have any idea where to get another one? I need specifics please, I've already tried searching for replacement parts but not having any luck whatsoever.

are you talking about the stock plastic heatsink mounting bracket around the CPU socket has broken? if so look up am2 retention bracket on amazon as the sellers on there stock replacement holders (note AM2 AM2+ AM3 AM3+ and FM are all the same mounts for stock coolers) there about $12 including shipping and are avalible in Black, Red and yellow!
if its an aftermarket mount not a stock type then you need to contact the manufacturer to ask for a replacement!

I think I'm slowly getting the whole game on my new board.
Had to learn about RAM timings (5.5.5.12-1T or 2T for 4gb) and had to learn how to get teh best from the MOBO, I mean lowering HT and ram timings in order to make it work. This was the thoughest part, becasue is hard to overclock with 4gb RAM.
Had to add an extra FAN feeding air from the side panel, VGA and chipset likes that.
I ordered a better heatsink from Zalman for the Northbridge chip. Because the nForce550 chip gets really hot, it hurts if you touch the stock heatsink for a long time (I think is a very bad heatsink by the way)....I assume all other NV chipsets are hot too...but better cooled perhaps. (The HS on my old Intel MOBO is a crown type one with multiple spikes, it works 300% better)
About temps...I could reach 2.4ghz without any glitch on my machine, and max temp was 47 while running a intensive app. And chipset temp didn't changed at all.
Didn't tried more OC since I'm sill waiting for my Arctic Freezer cooler.
So, just for the record...if anyone else has this MOBO and wants to OC.
K9N Neo quick, personal OC guide (not general, but it will help)
THE RULE OF THUMB IS "CHECK TEMPERATURES ALL THE TIME, FROM BIOS AND FROM CORE CENTER"
The second most important rule is...keep the system cool, it likes a good amount of airflow.
Third important rule is: If you want to change something physical in your mahcine TURN OFF THE PSU FIRST!...you may end provoking a shortcut and burn something (most likely RAM, which is very sensitive)
A final rule, not less important is...Always discharge yourself from any static (go to the toillete and grab a WC metal tube for a second or so)...a spark can DAMAGE a ramstick while handling it, remember we are surrounded by things that could charge you with static...including polyester clothes, plastic bags....how many times you got a spark while opening your fridge?...a spark like that on a ramstick and you can say bye bye to it.
1) Set RAM timings at the specified values, change to 2T if you find any trouble,
2) Disable Spread Spectrum for the CPU, and Disable auto FAN speed, disable Cool n Quiet, disable all stuff you don't need on your machine such as parallel and serial ports.
3) Set RAM clock to 333 or less.
4) Set HT to manual and set it to 800mhz...the more you want to OC the more you need to lower this.
5) Slowly increase CPU FSB....by 5mhz...monitor temp again, raise more, monitor temp...etc...
6) Even if you OC a lot and can POST, that doesn't guarantee you can boot Windows. So check that too.
Now, some troubleshooting if you can't POST at all.
Rule of thumb here is, DONT PANICK! panicking could make you try nonsense things and you may end with a disaster.
1) If the system don't POST, try waiting 10sec and press the reset button, sometimes you need to try this more than one time...sometimes 5...but it works.
2) If the reset button still doesn't works and you can't POST, is most likely that your RAM timings aren't right at all...so try removing some RAM then start the PC again, that will reset CMOS to default settings. (or give you an option to do that by pressing F2)
3) If still doesn't work, dude...you burnt the "I'm a potty mouth" out....next time be more careful.

K9N Neo V3 wont boot at all and has constant green light

Hi guys, as you can see I'm new to the forum and new to PC building this is my second rig and not my favorite for some reason this motherboard just wont boot. when i push the start button the heatsink fan spins and the power led stays green but other than that there's no other activity
heres my specs
MSI K9N Neo V3
AMD Semphron 3000 am2
512mb NANYA PC2-4200
Tested with 250w and 300w psus
Ati radion graphics card Pci-e
200gb hd
note these parts are mostly testing items to test the board before i buy more expensive parts any help would be great

thanks for the reply im currently using a dell system but my new builds motherboard just wont boot at all thats the main problem the psus seem to boot other systems so im unsure to whether the board is healthy or not since i cant connect the cases original audio plug to this mobo :( its unable to give me beep commands and the green light as ive read else where often means something bad but the condition dosent seem to change even when i change out parts

Well there is no real issue. The passive heatsink is not very good and the northbridge gets pretty warm. That would cause trouble if there is not a good airflow inside of your case. But getting to critical temp should only happen in cases with very bad or no ventilation at all. So the K9N very unlikely dies because of overheating. Of course it could when the inside temp gets far too hot what shouldn't happen. Besides you would get instabilities long before it would die. You don't need to worry the dead of the other guy's K9N has nothing to do with a general K9N issue.

K9N Neo v2 & Windows 7

Hello,
I have installed Windows 7 32bit on a box with the K9N Neo V2 and now my CPU Fan speed is 100% all the time, even though Cool'n'quiet downclocking seems to work just fine (in a Windows 7 sort of fine, but still, it does work). Microsoft, of course, blames the problem on the motherboard BIOS (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprohardware/thread/8254d3e2-73cd-413a-af86-21203e8c1402?prof=required&wa=wsignin1.0). I might add that CPU fan speed is fine on every other operating system, including Windows XP and Ubuntu 10.04.
Can I ever hope for a solution to this?

That is not true, 125W support usually have high end mainboards.

K9N Neo-F, just over a week old and now won't boot.

Having trouble with a new build using a MSI K9N Neo-F motherboard. I suspect my Motherboard is faulty :( and plan on sending it back to Newegg for replacement unless someone has something else for me to try. Here’s the original configuration:
MSI K9N Neo-F motherboard (MS-7260 Ver 1.0 w/ 1.3 BIOS)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ (65W – 2.4 GHz Windsor ADO4600CUBOX)
Gskill F2-6400CL4D-2GBPK (DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 @ 1.9~2.0V)
Gigabyte GV-NX76T256D-RH (GeForce 7600 GT) video card
Rosewill AP-500X (3.3V 30A, 5V 45A, 12V 22A)
NEC ND-3520A CD/DVD Burner
Seagate ST3320620AS SATA2 hard drive
For the first few days, everything appeared to work ok (though I had to leave the SATA 150 compatibility jumper on the hard drive in order for the motherboard to recognize it ). After day 3, it started locking up randomly (no blue screen) and restarting automatically, both while under high load and virtually no load at all. Past day 5, it’s now to the point where it locks up even in the BIOS, and that’s only when I can get it to POST (otherwise, all I get is fan spinning and a blank screen, not even a beep).
The first thing I tried after day 5 was replacing the PSU with a Silverstone SST-ST56F 560 W PSU I have on hand for another build (this PSU is extremely well made and heavy by the way :smiley: ). I figured this 560W monster could easily power the setup above, however the setup remained as unstable as ever. I did notice in the BIOS while looking at the voltages before it locked up that the Vcore is jumping all over the place, from 1.240V to 1.372V! I’ve built a fair share of A64 setups and never seen anything like this before. It seems to point to a failure of a power regulator on the motherboard, just hope it didn’t damage my CPU as a result.
Next suspect was the memory, which I memtested overnight on another AM2 board and passed with no errors. However, I read on a few other forums that the nVidia 550MCP chipset on the board doesn’t like RAM with a Tras under 15, so I swapped the RAM for another set of Gskill I had on hand (F2-6400CL5D-1GBNQ, DDR2-800 5-5-5-15 @ 1.8~1.9V) and reset the CMOS. Unfortunately still no luck, it won’t POST half the time and when it does, it locks up less than a minute later while still in the BIOS.
My last shot was removing the 7600GT video card and replacing it with an old Matrox Milenium PCI one I had laying around. My theory was not only to eliminate the video card from the list of suspects, but also the high power draw on the board that PCIe video cards tend to have. However, it still fails to POST half the time. Does anyone have any suggestions of things for me to try before sending back? Thanks in advance.

Bosskiller - Yes, I tested both memory kits on another AM2 motherboard (Asus M2N) for ~24 hours each and both passed with no errors. I tried setting the Vdim to 2.1 volts in the BIOS (while I was still able to get it to POST fully), but no luck. However, since it's gotten very unstable and I reset the CMOS, the Vdim is probably back at the default 1.8 volts. If I could just get it stable enough to make changes in the BIOS without it locking up, at least that would be an improvement.
BAS - As mentioned, I tried using a Silverstone 560W PSU I had on hand with no luck either, that's when I noticed the big fluctuations in Vcore. Speaking of which, are such fluctuation in the Vcore normal? I've read several contradictor forum post on the topic and don't know if this is "normal" behavior for the k9n neo-f.

MSI K9N NEO-F V3 Cannot install Windows 7

I am trying to install Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on my wife's desktop computer.
The system is:
MSI K9N NEO-F V3 Motherboard with BIOS American Megatrends Inc. V2.4
AMD 64 X2 3.00 Gigahertz
2 Gigs of RAM
Windows XP Pro 32 bit
500 gigs SATA HDD
120 gig and 40 gig IDE HDDs
As it has to be a clean install, I start the computer with the Windows 7 in the DVD drive. I get loading files, Starting Widows and then the background picture (picture with vapour trails, a dove and some grass) for the "Select Language etc." screen. Then nothing, no matter how long I leave it.
Got onto Microsoft and spent 1.5 hours trying to get it to work. We even went into the BIOS, made sure the DVD drive was the first boot device. When I clicked F10 to save and exit I did not get the "Press any key to boot from the CD/DVD", it went back to the beginning of booting.
The disk is OK, it is a Microsoft disk and worked fine when I tested it in my PC.
Can anyone help, please?

Disconnect the two PATA hard drives.
Make sure the hard drive you're installing Windows on is formatted before running the setup.

No video on new build K9N NEO V3

Hello all,
New build turns on, no beeps and of course no video. Stays running when is turned on just no video. All fans working (CPU, case, power, and video fans). Have tried detaching the mother board and tested with two video cards (one video card per test) and one stick of memory. Used a CRT monitor and a LCD monitor.
Here are the numbers:
msi k9n neo v3
amd athlon 64 x2 5000+ black edition
chaintech geforce 7300gt (tried other pci video card, pulled from working system)
crucial 2-1GB 6400
power supply:
dc output: 3.3v / 5v 12v--12v 5v / -12v / 5vsb
max output current: 12a / 46a 26a--26a .5a / .8a / 3.0a
32a
max combined: 230w 384w 25w

Crackling sound on Windows 7 x64 with K9N neo V 1.0

I installed Windows 7 x64 ultimate on my computer yesterday and everything worked fine except the audio, I installed the latest realtek drivers from MSI for x64 windows vista/7. But still I got the problem that it play fine and suddenly it "cracks" for less than a second and then it's like fastforwarding the missed ~halfsecond.
My hardware is:
4600+ X2 amd athlon
Ms-7260 ver 1.0 k9n neo nForce 550
6Gb of 667 MhZ kingston ram (2x2GB, 2x1GB)
GTS250 1024 mb MSI
samsung 500gb internal sata hdd (which windows 7 x64 ultimate is installed on)
q-tec 650w powersupply
The audio works perfectly in windows xp x86 and has done that the last 3+ years.
Is there a "fix" for this?

Man, that's quite some time ago I could do this...
I know, you may find it a bit overdone but really, a Q-Tec PSU is just one piece of junk. It's just some componetns thrown into a box and then they call it a power supply. Did you actually feel the weight of that thing? I bet you didn't. It weighs nothing, so you can't even use it as a door stop or paerweight.
Really, shut down your pc, take it out and throw it away. Be careful not to hit someone while doing that. (I mean, throw it in the bin or take it back to the guy who sold you this thing).
Get a good power supply. One with enough juice on the 12V-line. Take a psu with one 12V-rail. A good psu will cost you, but you will most certainly notice the difference.

K9N Neo V3 and SATA DVD-RW, need help

Hi all!
I've got a K9N Neo V3 mainboard and a Pioneer DVR-215BK DVD-RW (which is a Serial ATA drive). The problem is, when attempting to read any disc (CD or DVD), the drive recognizes it OK - but then hangs the very moment data transfer begins, then after 3-4 attempts (i.e. read-hang-read-hang etc) starts reading, but transfer mode is set to PIO by the OS (I have Windows XP SP2 installed). I can change it back to UDMA 4, but when I load a disc the whole story repeats :( . Reading speed in this mode is not too impressive, of course.
I have upgraded mainboard's BIOS and the writer's firmware to the latest versions; tried NVidia IDE SW drivers; checked the RAM for errors; connected the writer to different SATA ports with different cables; changed RAID mode in BIOS setup - and, of course, surfed the web searching for the solution - and now I'm here... Seems like few people had quite the same problem, but I've tried what they were proposing (even disabling error control for the corresponding IDE channel in Windows registry) - with no result at all.
Here's what I have inside my PC case:
MB and DVD-RW - you already know; RAM: KingMax 2*1024 Mb 800 MHz; HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (SATA); Graphics: NVidia 8800 GS; Sound: Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio; PSU: Delta 500W.
Note: SATA HDD works fine in UDMA 6 mode, without any errors. Any other piece of hardware I have also operates fine...
Hope anyone can tell me what causes this issue and what I can do about it. Is it my DVD-RW or motherboard that's faulty, or some compatibility issue, or I'm just stupid ? Thanks in advance.

Well, that's at least something! Means I'm not alone.
Yesterday I cleaned up whatever was remaining that could have caused the issue: removed everything but vital components; uninstalled all programs that might use additional drivers (like Nero, WinCinema and such); had the RAM checked again by MemTest86+ 2.01. Well, nothing changed, of course.
Tomorrow I'm taking the system to the dealer I've bought it from (that's gonna be a challenge, we got a lot of snow here ) - we'll see what the service personnel has to tell me.
I will let you know as soon as the problem is solved.

In your case - what's the brand and model of your DVD-RW? Have you tried downloading the latest drivers - or maybe your installation CD is bad or a buggy installer? Try installing the drivers manually.

Black screen after BIOS update on K9N Neo V2, help pls?

I have K9N Neo V2 motherboard and Athlon X2 5400, I've decided to upgrade and bought Phenom x4 9750.
So I've updated the bios to 3.0O from https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=124305.0 using the instruction, it went fine, I've been using it for a week but found out some bugs (windows blue screen and applications and OS hangups), then I got to restore OS from acronis true image - failed. And then I decided to check if the new bios supports my old athlon or not, I've changed the CPU and started - failed, dark screen no bios, I plugged back Phenom and now it also is not working :((. Have no idea why and what to do now..
Would really appreciate any suggestions and help.

[SOLVED] Front audio panel still not working on K9N Neo V3

I still didn't get front audio panel to work on MSI K9N Neo V3.
Even with my new case; Sharkoon Revenge, it is not working. It wasn't working on my previous noname case too. However, front audio panel on my previous case was working on several other MBs except on this MSI K9N.
Now, I'm using the latest Realtek HD audio driver. I think it's from February '08. Just as with the driver dowloaded by Vista via Windows Update, anything plugged in front audio panel isn't recognized. In this new version of Realtek driver I can't find this Disable front audio panel option so I can't tell if it is checked or not.
Once more, there is not much to do wrong while connecting. Case front audio panel cabel is the same as on all other cases I've ever seen/had. It's a cable with the same number and position of pins as in all other cases. It fits fine on MSI K9N Neo V3. Rear audio panel is working fine.
Any solution to this!?

Front panel audio jack is not working on K9N Neo V2

My front panel audio jack is not working on K9N Neo V2. I check the JAUD1 cable and it appears to be connected to the front panel audio jack. My soundcard driver cannot detect any gadgets when I plug it in the front panel. My audio drivers and BIOS are up to date. Is there any known solution to this? My computer is only a few months old and I have not tried the front audio jack until recently. I'm on Vista home premium btw.
Also, I've got another problem, my processor is AMD 64x2 4400+ overclocked to 2.63Ghz. I've been using that clock value ever since I built this computer and stress tested the processor and found that it would not cause any problems like hanging or overheating. However, I recently decided the need for AMD's Cool & Quiet technology and enabled it. It caused BSODs every few days or per week that didn't happen before. I tried it with the default clock value and it still causes BSODs. Can someone help me?

I actually have a two-part question:
First, according to my POST I'm running the a7369nms bios (v2.4), and thereby I have determined that I'm running either a K9N Neo V2 or V3. Unfortunately, I don't have the box and instructions anymore and I can't seem to remember which it is. Is there any way I can determine which one I have?
Second, I would like to upgrade my processor. I'm currently running an X2 4200+, and would like to upgrade if possible to a Phenom X3 720 BE. Is this possible?

Yes, I failed to make that distinction. Though I knew they were different sockets, I thought they were theoretically compatible if the bios supported the cpu and the thermal power design rating was sufficient. Hmm... so which would you learned gentlemen/women agree that the fastest cpu I could bolt on to my board would be? A 95W phenom x3 8750, x4 9750 (if I can find a 95W one), or an athlon x2 6000+?
