K9n Platinum Won't Post!!! Memory Incompatible or Mobo failure???

Like so many others, I am having trouble with my K9N PLatinum. When I turn the system on, everything powers on, CPU fan, case fans, leds. It begins to post, no video, but the D bracket just hangs on (1, 3, 4, red and 2, green). I have tried all of the usual troubleshooting. Using just one stick of memory in each DIMM slot, reseating CPU, only having CPU/memory/video card plugged in. I even went and bought some cheap RAM from a local retailer and the same thing, D bracket just hangs. Taking out battery, resetting CMOS switch, etc. This build has been very frustrating. I have read there are BIOS updates, but have never updated bios before. How would I do an update when the system won't even post? PLEASE HELP!!!

I got it to post and install windows on the Kingston valueram. I did a live update via MSI's website to BIOS version 1.2. But version 1.2 would still not post using my OCZ memory. I wanted to try to flash the beta 1.31 bios, ut I am having difficulty flashing the beta 1.31 bios version ins DOS mode. Has anyone else done this? Also, when is MSI going to put the newest bios version up for Live Update. That would make a lot of unsatisfied customers, happy. I was about ready to return my board and go ASUS. But I wanted to stick it out with MSI because I like you guys the best! Any info on flashing bios would be great! AMD

P45 Platinum won't POST with full memory banks

I have 4 identical 2GB DDR2-800 modules. If I install 2 the system runs fine. If I install 4 the system will not POST, hangs with the memory code. I am replacing an old P35 Platinum that had exactly the same problem (though I was using 1GB modules with that instead of these 2GB modules). 2 modules fine. It doesn't matter which 2. 4 modules bad. Won't POST. Is there some setting that prevents you from using both banks unless you change it?

They are PNY Optima. I am running them at the default timings (I think the default is for BIOS to handle it itself with SPD). I probably wasn't clear before but both modules are installed in the same bank (both in orange or both in green). I just can't fill more than one bank and get it to POST. These modules all work fine independently. There is some board/BIOS issue that is not allowing me to use both banks. I had the same exact problem with my P35 Platinum with different modules. I could run one pair, but not two pair.

K9N Platinum won't recognise AM2 6000

Hi Everyone
My problem is similar to baja_83s post on 21st november.
I've bought a new AM2 64 6000+ but the mobo says contact bios maufacturer.
Details are;
K9N Platinum A7250NMS V1.0 042506
MSI's auto update says V1.0 is the latest version.
Have tried the flash USB butwas unsucessful-I just got a 'missing operating system' message when I tried to boot but this seems uneccessary as the bios would seem up to date
Anyone any ideas?

Follow exact instructions: {Don't delete anything, but format the drive with the Tool below, then rerun MSI HQ Tool to prepare the drive and re-test}

Hi everyone. Hope you all had a nice Xmas.
This is my first post on the forums. I’m from Portugal ,so I might write things that won’t make much sense to you but I´ll try to keep it simple.
I bought a Sapphire 5750 vapor-X for my kid's PC and I’m afraid I’m yet another one with the “black screen, no post” syndrome. I have tried the card on another system and it works fine.
What I did:
Remove old card (6800GT)
Put new card in
Reset CMOS
Switch PC on… no image on screen.
The fan on the graphics card starts spinning, the blue lights are ON, but no dice. My HDD LED stays on, my CD+DVD drives LEDs keep flashing but system won’t post, not even show MSI logo.
If I remove new card and get my old one back in the PC, it will post first time.
I have spent Xmas reading forums and haven’t found anything but a lot of ppl with the same problem and no real solution for it.
Hope you guys can help .

Neo Platinum won't post after BIOS change...

I changed a few BIOS settings in my machine. Everything was working fine before; all I switched (to my recollection) was changing the boot order and also switching from Manual to Automatic for High Performance Timings (named something like that).
After doing this, the machine won't even POST; I get a ~2 second long beep shortly after turning the machine on, and this beep repeats with a ~2 second pause between each beep.
I have tried:
- taking out the memory in bank 2
- taking out both DIMMs
- doing the JBAT1 CMOS reset (pins 1-2 going to 2-3)
- doing the 'remove the battery' CMOS reset
- doing both the JBAT1 and battery reset approaches, leaving it in 2-3 and battery out all last night
After all of these, there was no change -- I still get the beeps.
D-Bracket seems to have the bottom left light red, and the rest green, if I recall.
Any guesses? Thanks.

Ah, to clarify -- I looked at the Basic Troubleshooting Guide for the exact description of what the D-Bracket is showing. It looks to be "Initializing Keyboard Controller".
Maybe someone else knows -- in the list of all of the D-Bracket codes -- which are meant to be green and which are meant to be red? (As the page has white and black..so I'm trying to confirm that I'm right in mapping correctly between white/black and red/green; if my mapping is backwards, then it really means "Assign Resources to all ISA").
As for possible memory issues -- if I hadn't changed anything in the BIOS other than memory timings -- wouldn't resetting the CMOS have gone back to default timings (which were working a-ok until I made that BIOS change). (Plus, I don't have any other RAM, so I'm looking for other things to also try

MSI P6N Sli Platinum won't Post with E8500

Ok, I've been pulling my hair out on this one off and on for a couple of weeks, and I figured I'd finally just post here and hope for some advice.
I recently bought a C2D E8500 CPU on newegg to replace the E6420 I currently have running in my system. The motherboard is a P6N SLI Platinum with the v1.7 Bios. The problem is that whenever I swap the E8500 in for the E6420 the computer powers on, fans start spinning, and then it just sits. No beeps, no lights, nothing. When I put the E6420 back in the whole thing boots up just fine. I've cleared the CMOS two different ways (removing the battery and hitting the CMOS reset button), and nothing seems to help. I have tested the CPU in another machine, and it works just fine. The MSI tech support has told me that the problem shouldn't be happening, and has suggested that I RMA the board to them. I'd rather not be without my computer for 3-4 weeks, so I figured I'd post here and see if anyone had any advice before I pull the whole system apart and send the MB in.
PSU is a 700W OCZ
Graphics Card is EVGA 9800GT 512MB
Ram is 4GB AData
Let me know if anyone sees any obvious problems.

Sending the board to MSI to be serviced is probably your only option to solve this.

K9A2 Platinum won't POST

Ok, I'm not sure if this is a board problem or a video card problem. My machine was working great. I opened it up, took out a network card, copied my SATA hard drive onto an IDE drive as a backup through a USB enclosure, then hooked the drive directly to the IDE port on the board and configured BIOS to boot off of that drive to make sure the OS copied correctly. Now it won't display anything at all. The red light on the monitor won't even turn green. I've tried each of my video cards separately in each of the four PCIe slots with no success. I've tried removing everything but the ram, I've reset CMOS, I've tried a new DVI cable to the monitor, as well as a VGA cable. I know the cards are still getting power since the fans on the coolers still spin up, but no signal at all.
Anyone have any ideas? Hard to believe both cards failed completely at the same time.

It's possible that the way Windows identifies the type of hard drive connection you are using, but I could be wrong. Copying everything over from SATA to IDE might have the OS confused.
As for the monitor not getting a display, there's a long running thread over on AMD Game! Forums which has what could be your display problem. Don't fret though, as this issue is not just for ATi cards, as it is plaguing Nvidia cards as well.
Here is the link to the thread, feel free to join up, and post. We are trying to gather as many users as possible to see if AMD/ATi knows about the issue. I have also contacted tech support about it, in hopes that maybe they get off their asses and actually do something. I've even asked them to make a post, but as we know, the elitists don't like communicating with the pawns, so my lengthy email might be a lost cause.

Help! K9A2 Platinum won't post

Hi all, I hope you can give me some assistance with this problem.
I have just recently purchased a K9A2 platinum, put a 9500 in the socket, 4 gig ram. Running vista 32 bit. It was working okay, but CnQ was freezing up the computer. I decided to update the bios to 1.1 using the usb tool (thanks, that is a great tool). I did not clear the CMOS after doing this, but the system seemed to run fine. AMD AOD has never given me core temps, I don't know if anyone else experiences that, but it never did when I initially built the system using WinXP either.
Regardless, I noticed that the 12V line was reading 8.5 V according to AOD so I was concerned (I have a Antec Quattro 850 and only one HD, one DVD and a old ATI x700 (my 3870 has not shown up yet)) so there is not that significant a power draw. I figured, that before performing any voltage measurements, I would clear the CMOS and then test it. So this morning I turned off the PS, unplugged it and switched the clear CMOS jumper, then switched back. Now the system will not post at all. It turns on. It has not given any post codes on the speaker (I had to pull an old one from another system as my case did not have one). So is my CPU dead? My mobo? What? How do I resurect the system? What could have happened?

I replaced the processor, original ram, HD, DVD, still no front panel, but the system comes up into vista no probs. Temp of cpu is a little higher than before, but that may be because I had to redo the HS compound and since I am waiting for a new heat sink ...
I was originally planning to try bios 1.12 - but I think I will hold off on any bios updates until v1.2 or something shows up.
So that is the end of that saga.
Just two final questions: Is there any chance of a bios update that will provide for turning on the system using the keyboard? It can wake, but how about power up (kinda like the K9A sticky thread).
2) Near the cmos jumper are another pair of pins - just what are those for? They are awfully close to the clear cmos pins. I really am just curious what they do (and I don't want to mess with them!).

I think what you did was a "Clean" reset of the CMOS, I normally pull the plug out of the wall, remove the battery, place the CMOS jumper in reset and then hit the start switch a couple of times to make sure the PSU's capacitors are completely depleted then I try to wait a couple of minutes, put the CMOS Jumper to default reinstall the battery and plug it back in to the wall, hit the start button. ....... Some people say just turning off the PSU switch in back will work as well, I say they are just lazy. If you absolutely want to be sure, unplug it!
I thought I had a problem with my K9A2 CF board, but I was just trying crossfire too early.
I also have a Antec 850 and I am somewhat luke cool toward it. For sure next PSU will be a PC Power & Cooling 750 or similar, I will go back to a single rail.

P45 platinum won't post

Got my new p45 platinum after a long wait. But it just fail to post, monitor displays nothing.

K8N Neo4 Platinum - won't post with cards in pci slots

Just completed a new build - with 3800 + Dual processor - everything works fine but when I plug a PCI card in any PCI slot the computer then refuses to even post.
I've tried different cards and all of the pci slots but it makes no difference. Could it be a driver problem ? When I remove the card and try again the computer then starts up as normal.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

1: PCI cards are bad, most likely your problem
2: PCI slots on MB are bad, highly doubt this
3: PCI cards drawing to much power, very doubtfull

MSI K9N2 Platinum won't POST

So, long story short, I had this machine up and running. I plopped in a PCI-E graphics card, however switching primary graphics in BIoS wouldn't get it working. This was fine, it had happened to me before, all I had to do was clear CMOS.
So, I decided to take the battery out to have a complete wipe; while taking the battery out, a third of the battery 'holder' snapped off. This didn't have any conductive materials on it, it's strictly the plastic. The battery still fits inside nicely.
Upon booting the machine now, it sits on the BIOS screen. Hitting tab to POST gives me a screen that lets me know all devices were detected...then it just sits there. The board's built in D-bracket gives me 4 red lights. I have no clue as to what I can do.
I've tried clearing CMOS again and removed all HDDs, but still no luck. Did I just bust my motherboard?

Are you sure you didn't re-install the battery upside down? When you removed the battery did you pry it out or did you release the metal tab that holds it in place? It seems to me the only reason any of the holder would break off is by prying the battery out with some kind of tool.

I have no trouble with the overclocking since this is only a minor overclock (2.8GHz), the only problem I have with this is it gets stuck at restart. With that 2.8GHz OC, i have the vcore @ 1.285v which was stable running 1hr Prime95. I just can't understand why it gets stuck during warm boot.. might try to experiment (400x6 = 2.4GHz) when I get home from work to see if the 400 FSB is causing this. And yes, I agree with you that it would be easier to use a lower FSB with a higher multiplier. I just wanted to try having 400 and having a perfect 1:1 ratio. I have some data suggesting a 1:1 (@ 400:400) is better than 1:1.2 or any other divider. I used Everest cache & memory bandwidth benchmark to test this. I got lower "ns" testing my RAMs (PC6400 DDR2 800) during 1:1 FSB:Ratio (400:400) vs 1:1.2 (333:400)

K8N Neo2 Platinum 2 DIMMs won't post

I have two 512 MB Crucial DIMMs (DDR PC3200, CL=3, UNBUFFERED, NON-ECC, DDR400, 2.6V, 64Meg x 64, Part #CT6464Z40B). If I have either one installed, the system will POST. If I have both installed (I've tried them in both recommended combinations, in DIMM1 and 2 and in DIMM3 and 4), the system won't POST. The D-Bracket displays the Memory Detection Test signal. Since each stick works alone, I don't think either one is faulty. Can anyone explain why this is happening, and how to fix it?

im having the same problem. same ram, same motherboard. except when i put the ram in slots 1 and 3 the computer will start up, but it will freeze in windows everytime. what should i do? i want to use all of my ram now only one stick!!!!!!!!!

K9n platinum memory

I just purchased a k9n platinum motherboard.Does anyone have any suggestions on memory for this board? I was considering corsair twin 2x1024-5400c4 or kingston khx5400d2/1g.Also I am not sure if i should go with dual channel or single {does it really make much of a difference with dual channel}If i go with the corsair memory can i still use the default settings in the bios.The k9n board supports 1.8v, the corsair uses 1.9v will I have to change bios setting for this ram. default voltages depend on the memory SPD defaults not on the mobo. so if the memory modules have a 1.8V SPD default, the BIOS will set the memory at 1.8V.
