K9N SLI/K9N Ultra NVIDIA nForce 570 series chipset based. Boot problems

Hi
Im new to these kinds of things and I cant claim to be a tech wiz. I have never encountered this kind of a problem and im not familiar with anything relating to computer hardware, motherboards etc. I will however attempt to describe my dilemma. I have a booting issue with my computer and regardless of re-installing the OS the problem persists. To even get the computer to start i might have to press the power button repeatedly about 30 times. I also get this message on the screen: "Warning!!! The previous performance of overclocking is failed and the system restored to the default settings....". However, I have never attempted any kind of overclocking, nor do I know how to do such a thing. To solve the problem I tried various things, first I reinstalled the OD(win vista). Then I ran various diagnostic tests and eventually entered BIIOS and tried to solve the problem by loading failsafe defaults and later loading optimized defaults. I also reset the CMOS using the red button located next to my chipset. None of the above seem to work and currently im at a loss as to how to solve my predicament. I have no cash to buy a new PC so I HAVE to make it work!
Keep in mind im merely refering to what it says on the box and I have no idea whatsoever about the meaning and/or interpretation of the combinations of letters and numbers!

"starting" means my fans and everything else starts running. Well, starting means the power goes on(and stays on) with the familiar whirr of the fans . starting also implies the OS and everything else works. However I cant even get the power to stay on before pushing the power button about 30 times. Slowly and surely it powers up but it really struggles as of late. Its an old computer(about 5 years) and it was running fine until about a week ago.
Im merely a casual user of my pc, although I enjoy playing games such as world of warcraft, rift or any other MMO. I was thinking that it could be the power supply that is on it's last leg. However, I dont know how to change to a new one, despite reading the guides posted here. I also checked the power supply manual but the information contained within was far too technical for me to comprehend, it might aswell have been written in chinese.
Im also hesitant to flash BIOS as I have never done such a thing and as far as I know I might fry the whole system if I dont do it right. Lets asume I want to change the powersupply for a new one, should I go with an identical model as the old one? The power supply is a HIPER type-R series 580 W. I can provide all the technical data if necessary, I just want to solver the problem. I cant really think of any other likely solution as it should work asuming the power suppy isnt the problem. I reinstalled the OS from scratch anyway thinking it might be a software problem.
Could the problem also be caused by an old BIOS version? Not sure which one I have right now but considering I have never dared to update it, its more than likely an old version.

  • Intel 845E Max Series Chipset Based

    Hi,
i have few questions need to ask.
i'm using Intel 845E Max Series Chipset Based (MS-6566E v1.0 ATX Mainboard)
i want to know is that, is my this mainboard can support the harddisk which have 160gb of capacity?
will it slow down my p4 1.7 speed if not support that high of capacity?
what can i do in order to let this mainboard support it?
what information u need to know to help me solve my problem?
    thanks.

The worst case would be it only recognizes approximately 130 GB of it.  Check mobo manual for hard drive support.  also check for bios updates to add support.  Try partitioning it into 2 drives.  I know that works when OS is the limiting factor.  Not sure if that works when hardware is the limiting factor.  If you have not already bought the drive the safest answer is to buy a 120 GB drive.  The other solution is to purchase a PCI controller card that supports 160 GB drives (sometimes even packaged with the drive if you do not have the drive yet).

  • 1st series iMac G5: Booting problems, kernel panics, waking from sleep...

Specifications of the iMac described: 1.8 Ghz, 1GB, 80GB, 64 Mb Nvidia VRAM, Airport, 10.5.5
Back in August 2004 my dad bought us kids an iMac G5 for ‘family use’. It had a fresh install of 10.3.5 on it and compared to the (1999) iMac G3 it replaced it was amazingly fast.
The iMac never showed any signs of probable issues, until we decided to upgrade to Leopard in January 2008. Initially, this upgrade was only meant to be able to sync with the latest iPod nano (who demanded a newer version of iTunes).
After the installation the first thing I noticed was a high CPU usage, the machine seemed slower than ever and that with 1 Gb of RAM (the minimum sys. req. for Leopard are 512 Mb of RAM). Anyway, then the real thing started, it wouldn’t turn on anymore. We brought it to an Authorized Apple Reseller, the Tech department said the Logic board had failed. The costs of the fix weren’t the worth the computer anymore, so...end of story. The iMac was indeed one of the bad series, although it hadn’t any swollen capacitors.
My dad already made up his mind and bought himself a Macbook. He then told me that if I was able to get the broken iMac fixed, I could keep it. And so, I bought an ‘as-is’ logic board on Ebay. Last weekend I installed it, and it actually seemed to work! Yet, the problems are during the startup: the first thing I see is a screen full with horizontal lines flickering all the time, like an old TV with bad signal. Mostly it won’t boot and I get the message to restart the computer (kernel panic, I got dozens of logs already!). Sometimes it got stuck during booting (grey apple screen with gear in the middle) making the fans go crazy (after a while) and sounding what others describe as a ‘jetliner taking off’ sound. Sometimes the screen remains black. Generally it takes me 5 to 10 minutes to start up properly. Maybe it’s just me but it seems like when the computer has warmed up a little (by turning on and off on and on) starting up gets smoother. I mean the startup screen suffers from less horizontal flickering lines.
During the use of Leopard, I again get high CPU usage, especially when I use multiple programs at the same time, or when starting multiple programs. My iStat Pro said once that the fans were running at 4700 rpm and the heat of the CPU was about 70 Celsius. If I really want to **** my iMac off I should play a racing game. That just totally freaks him out! These problems could probably be solved by adding more RAM. Right?
The iMac also has a sleep problem. Sometimes after lets say an hour or so, you can’t get it out of sleep mode (by manipulating keyboard and/or mouse, the sleep light stops, but the screen stays off --> only solution is to restart). What happened to me once was that it slept so long that it just got into a deep sleep by turning itself off completely!
Here’s a list of what I tried so far:
    - Disk Utility: Resetting the permissions, no problems were found.
    - Resetting the SMU, both on the logic board itself as by pressing the power button 5 - 8 seconds, no improvements.
    - Resetting the PRAM, no improvements.
    - Did the Hardware test of the original install CD, nothing was found, all good.
    - Did Archive and Instal, this actually messed my system entirely, cause it wouldn't boot at all and when starting up from the Leopard installation DVD it wouldn't recognize the Macintosh HD.
    - Did Archive and Instal with the original disks, this disk did recognize Macintosh HD and so I installed the original system, 10.3. Booting problems and those flickering lines are still there though.
Next phase will be erase and install, but first I want to know what you guys think about all this.
Oh eh, One more thing; The guys at Applecare (phone support) told me that the replaced logic board was also out of warranty and so they couldn’t help me. But as the man on the phone was kind, he told me to go look for a special ‘driver’ on the net. He said that the driver should be able to resolve some of the issues described. He said that I had to give in the name of the LB on google and look for results. Is this bogus? Because I haven’t found anything useful on google so far. What’s the name (rather than a number) of the LB in the first place?
I hope you guys can give me some answers. I'm kinda desperate. But I still feel there's hope...

The symptoms of a flakey power supply are sleep problems and you have done all the right things as far as resetting the SMU and PRAM. Your CPU usage can be tracked by going to Utilities>Activity Monitor - look and see what is hogging the memory. The flickering lines could also be an optical system going south.
The other thing you can do is run DiskWarrior or TechToolPro to see if you have corrupted directories. Preferential Treatment will let you check for corrupted preferences.

  • Suspend Problems-K9N SLI Platinum (NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP)

I have a problem in that after a suspend (S3) and then restoring back to windows, the PC insists upon doing a full shutdown.
    This is a new problem.
Also, the BIOS seems to be not saving it's settings - eg it asked for a 3.5 " floppy at one reboot (never had one installed)
I suspect it is not "remembering the "Restore on AC power Loss" setting. Sometime the "Cool and Quiet" feature works and other times it doesn't. (I have set it and the used Dual Core Centre and I it reports I can change the fan speed)
    Any help would be appreciated.

Check the Jbat1 jumper if you have one, it MUST be set to normal mode, not clearing position.
Can you tell me more about the Jbat1 jumper ? I can't seem to find it in the manual.
I will check all connectors (had a slightly different problem once and it turned out a power lead was loose ...) and try removing my cards and usb devices one at a time.

  • MSI K9N SLI/K9N ULTRA bios update

    Hello everyone,
I want to install windows 7 on my Pc but during the installation my PC stucks and do nothing.
I have already tried a lot of things but nothing happened. The same thing again.
Finaly I think that I need to update my BIOS version because I have not do it before.(since 2006 when I bought my PC)
Probably I should do it from a bootable CD because my motherboard can not boot from a usb stick and also I don't have a flopy Drive.
Is there any official tutorial (maybe from MSI) to do it?
Do you have anything else to propose???
    Thank you in advance!!!

So I recently jumped ship from XP Home to Vista x64 to XP pro x64 and I am having issues updating my drivers I downloaded the MCP55_64_9.17_MW31006 at this site http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1415
NVIDIA nForce 550/570/570/590 SLI System Drivers
When I run the install though nothing happens Nvidia splash then nothing and the files are not recognized by the device manager.
Any idea what the issue could be? sadly need the ethernet update so I can connect to the internet lol also the 2 discs have no effect neither work vista or the xp (tried vista since the x64 drives actually worked on it)

Vista x64 ultimate. I wanted to try X64 XP but I ran into problems thus the original post ^-^
Vista is nice I could live with it for Dx10 but man UAC sucks every attempt to disable = vista freak out and repair the file ^-^
ATM I use XP Home with the DX10 crack (I own vista so I don't see a issue) but yet to install any games on it. I will load up and check it out   Still the fact I get medium with x8 aa is good imo. Game looks fantastic and with luck the FC2 engine won't be such a resource whore like crysis. I recall the Sandune (think thats the name) for FC1 even on low settings things still looked fantastic.

  • Vista Beta 2 (v5472) + K9N SLI Platinum

Has anyone managed to get Vista installed from scratch with the "K9N SLI Platinum"?
    I tried, 32bit and 64bit. both failed.

I got Vista Beta 2 32-bit installed on K9N Ultra + 4200+ X2, but because of the poweroff-issues of K9N-series, Vista was really unstable. Well, my mobo is RMA'd now, so let's see how's gonna work with the new revision.

  • K9N SLI Platinum MS7250 ver1.1 ... need help with Windows 7 install

    Hello,
Having an intermittant issue with Windows 7 32bit.  During startup Windows 7 gets stuck at the logo screen.  Not always though.  Every 7-8th reboot it will make it past and go all the way into Windows 7.  I've tried all sorts of combinations of "ebabling/disabling".  This system ran XP professional for 3 years without any issues.  Currently, I have the most luck by connecting the keyboard and mouse to PS2 and leaving USB disabled.  This may not be the issue though.  Once I got Win7 to boot I performed driver updates etc.
If someone has suggestions please let me know.  I'm about to try the USB bios flash but have never done it before.
    Thank you,
    BK

    Hi Guys,
    Thank you for the replies.
    -  Yes it is a fresh install of Windows7 on a drive that originally had XP Pro
    -  If I boot into safe mode it does go into Win7 most of the time.
    -  I posted on the MSI tech support page (http://support.msi.com/index.php) and the response was to upgrade the BIOS.  What do you think?
    -  I've been using this graphics card for three years and is nowhere near as powerful as what's out there now.  In fact all of the components are three years old except the RAM
    -  I tried the old RAM (2GB Corsair) and it also had the same issue.  Even at default RAM settings or otherwise.  Now I'm back to the 4GB Patriot Vipers.
    -  What is this capacitor problem people are referring to?  Is it a problem specifically on this model board?
    Thank you..

    WD 500 GB AAKS

    450 W PSU
Recently i got another 2x1 GB DDR2 Vitesta Extrema 800+.My OS was Windows XP SP2.Of course i knew about de 32bit SO limitation and didn't expect my Windows to take advantage of all 4Gigs.My PC started to freeze on random ocassions.so i decided to install Windows Vista x64.It didn't start to install it just freezes after unpacking (gray bar with black background screen).I take out 2 Gigs.Works like a charm,so it isn't a dvd read problem. I inserted the 2GIGS back PC doesn't even get to boot screen(with 2GB works).I installed SP1 too,to get all hotfixes up to date.same thing.Memory hole is enabled in bios.Tested the sticks 1 by 1 no problem with eighter of them.Just as i write i am running the recently bought sticks, for 2 days,no problem. My bios is 3.8 now,but i downgraded from 3.9 thinking it may solve the problem.I also don't think that the PSU is the problem, because before i had 4x512 DDR2 800 GEIL Ultra (2.1V) wich practicly need same power to run.Hope somebody can help me :(

You have tested with all sorts of el-cheapo PSU's.
Do you really believe any of those will run a power eating videocard like a 8800GTS?
I believe it's the videocard and/or the powersupply.
As you managed to install XP without a problem it seems, well then the memory and CPU are fine, as they use a whole lot of memory and CPU power during install.
It would have stalled during installation as well if it was the board/CPU/memory.
However, during that stage the videocard isn't initialized to full potential, but just acting like a 100 year old VGA card and thus not using any power or GPU calculations at all.
Please test your system on a >30A @ 12V powersupply SINGLE rail, to exclude the PSU.
Also, take your friends videocard and put it in your system, but with a heavy 12V amp psu.
Wouldn't be the first time it was both.
Bad memory/CPU/board usually results into BSOD, but underpowered PSU can also cause freezing and those nVidia videocards do react on unstable power by reducing stuff....so yes it can run underpowered...but how long and how good?
BAS, thanks but no thanks.Already solved, and it wasn't the PSU, you PSU FANATIK ).I already said i finished Crysis with this stinky PSU ,no problems.Go buy a PSU that costs twice your PC if that makes you happy, untill proven otherwise i stick to my cheap'o PSU

  • K9N SLI with weird USB beeping and freezing

    Greetings
I have a K9N SLI-F V2 MB that seems to have a weird reaction to USB devices. Right now I only have PS/2 devices plugged in (Keyboard & Mouse) and It seems to boot and run normally. I get only 1 "beep" immediately  after the BIOS screen, and it runs XP just fine. If I replace the PS/2 mouse with a USB mouse, I will now get an addition "chirp" (I think of these more as a "chirp" because its a little faster than the "beep") during the BIOS screen, as well as the original "beep" right after the BIOS screen. One thing I discovered is that the number of "chirps" I receive is the same number of USB devices I have plugged in. So if I have a USB keyboard, mouse, and printer (3 USB devices) plugged in, I will get 3 "chirps" during the BIOS screen, and still get the single "beep" after the BIOS screen. The other thing is that whenever USB devices are plugged in, Windows will freeze, but with the PS/2 devices, it works fine. I cant really find a pattern to the freezing, sometimes during the log in screen, sometimes if the computer has been idle for a while, and sometimes while using browsers/applications/games, but it ONLY freezes when USB devices are plugged in. I have gone through each USB device and made sure that all the most recent drivers are installed. So whats the deal....any thoughts?

Yes I did a CMOS clear and replaced the battery with new. Bios was then updated to most current: v 1.1
    Biggin101:
Wow, I dont feel alone. Yes some similarities. My thoughts are the same: I dont see how this could be OS related. I am currently trying a different memory setup too that doesnt seem to help really (2 x 1 Gb 800Mhz sticks in dual channel mode slowed to 667Mhz). Yes , I also test the same components in other systems with no problems, but when i get everything back on the MSI board, it starts again. I also have been getting the "device removed" message but for my rear audio plug. Since the new PSU I installed certainly have seen a reduction in these odd occurrences, but no total solution.
My board has the nV 570 chipset
hows your PCIe Slots, running on all x16 lanes?
    TP:
Ill go ahead and post all Specs I can remember, and get as many details as I can later when Im back at that computer. Yes I have been using the MSI site for drivers/patches. XP has been installed a few times and then updated to SP3, so i dont really see what I could be missing. Looking in the BIOS I dont see anywhere to manually select x16 lanes for the PCIe slot. everything has been reinstalled as if it were the 1st time out of the box
    thanks guys!
    (PC specs in signature)
I too have seen a bit of difference since PSU upgrade, and this morning I transferred over 200 gig of files without a hitch,
Then went onto the next set of files, another 100 gig or so and bam 30 seconds in(never even completed the first file transfer),PC locks up again.
And just when I thought I "mysteriously" fixed it.
Now I get a "network discovery" is not turned on message and when I turn it on it will not stay turned on.
That I believe is OS related. But due to the other issues I am experiencing I am not 100% sure.
Thank god I use Network Magic by Cisco,so I do not need Discovery to transfer files.
Only time I seem to have this lockup problem is when the USB drives are directly connected(any USB port,3 front,6 rear)
to the desktop PC in question. And none have the "extra" lead on Pin10 as per another post here.
I can connect to the network with these drives on any PC in the house,
I have 5 to choose from or my laptop and have no Transfer issues at all.

  • K9N SLI PLATINUM low data transfer rate

Hi, (sorry for my pour english) I had to go back to Winxp native SATA/IDE drivers and my pc crash & BSOD problem it's gone! :D (BSOD when i install some programs or some games, listening music and moving data at the same time, etc.) now i'm available to execute multitasks without any troubles. But now the transference it's quite poor  , I think this is an easy and temporary solution for this big problem.
I bought my PC on 2006 and the Windows XP drivers are from 2001, aren't new Nvidia/MSI drivers to fix this annoying problem?
    Thanks.

I've got nearly the same problem, but a little worse. My data transfer rate seems very slow for a 100mb network and if I start copying files over the network, after only a couple of megs I lose connectivity to the network completely! I've removed the network cable and windows notices this, and when I put it back in windows also notices the change, but the green and orange lights on the port itself stay on solid. If I reboot windows everything comes back. I don't have problems browsing the web, seems to only happen when the ethernat port is running close to full load (for the connection speed of 100mb as apposed to 1gb).
Anyone else seen this? I'm on the latest drivers, the latest bios and I've tried disabling on of the network ports in the bios but his didn't work.

HEY GUYS FINALLY GOT A ANSWER FROM MSI Co.
According to this best thing is RMA..
    Dear Kamal,
We have fixed this issue by changing C565 from 100pF to 220pF. All the stock had been reworked, and we have informed all the MSI™ Distributor locators.
So please get your MB for RMA.
As to the RMA, The normal procedure is to contact your reseller (the place you bought the board from) for repair/exchange , If the reseller for some reason like bankrupt cannot be contacted, then contact MSI distributor http://www.msi.com.tw/program/contact/where2buy/ or MSI office near your place http://www.msi.com.tw/program/about/w2b/index.php
    Sorry for any inconveniency.

  • K9N SLI 2F, another networking problem

    Hi @ll!
I've read a lot about the networking random shutdown problems of some K9N SLI 2F Series, but mine is not within the buggy list (S/N: 601 - 7250 - 090...). But my problem is nearly the same:
I've tried Windows Vista x64, Windows XP x64, Windows Vista32 and Windows XP32. Everytime when i leave the settings for my network controllers on standard settings, my computer shuts down as soon as i start network traffic by my browser. If i just do a "ping xxxx.xxx", i get responses without problems. But i can't use my network otherwise.
If I switch my network controllers to 10Mbit in the device manager, i have no problems with surfing or network traffic.
Has anyone some tipps or advices where my problem comes from or what i can du furthermore?

So first I can run the PC works perfectly I just upgraded from a 120gb IDE that was on for close to 32,000 hours and was physically dying to a 320gb SATA (I removed the jumper from 1.5 to 3.0)
First when I boot the PC up after the MSI splash I get this message.
"not enough space in in runtime area SMBIOS data will not be available." now it happens so fast that I didn't see it for a few days I only noticed it by chance.
I searched BIOS and didn't see a option to clean it...google wasn't much help.
Also I am getting stuttering in music/videos mostly happens in videos but this is kinda bad the drive passed all of Seagates tool tests but its delaying loading of games. Crysis on my old 2mb IDE took 60 seconds to load it now takes 120 seconds on warhead.
Now the stutters don't always happen but on big files (bigger then 200mb) it seems to happen a lot when I jump forward and it will randomly do it as well.
Is there a configuration issue here? Also I am using Bios 1.0 I never updated it since its not broken and I hear horror stories on BIOS update failures.
    What to do?
Also how do I fill my SMBIOS up?

    And Athlon X2 doesn't support 4 sticks at DDR800, only at DDR667.
Use 2 sticks if you want to use DDR800 at max speed.
well its been running all 4 sticks for about 6 months now so I guess it underclocked it to 667. I am not a tech as you can clearly tell by now bass ^-^
Also the freeze might have been a one time thing...I got it after rebooting to check bios version and I loaded this page before the PC was fully booted up and the screen froze it never did this before now...this was the first time it happened. Forgive me for confusing you I get the "stuttering" during the first boot up to desktop it dadadad the music and during videos/audio it randomly stutters the sound but only from time to time.
Also I just reset the cmos (msi manuals could be better in detail) and I don't see any message after the MSI splash it goes directly to the XP logo.
I ran a software called Bootvis with SP3 because of slow boot times and it speed things up a bit more...but I heard there was some issues with AMD and SP3....going to try loading Vista Ultimate x64 again to see if its the OS or the HD.
Is there a special setting for IDE vs SATA? All options are on "auto" in bios could it not be doing it?
I have had no problems until I installed this new HD. I noticed the SMBIOS text after the hard drive and every other component has been in my PC for at 3 months or more.
I will run the memtest a bit later but I just did a test a month ago and all 4 sticks worked fine each working in dual channel as well.
I just ran HD Tune and it says my transfer rate is 11mb-12mb which seems horribly slow I never ran this on my old IDE but I am about too.

  • K9n SLI Platinum + 4x1GB = Cold

Got som problems running my K9n SLI platinum with 2x VS2GBKIT667D2 (= 4x1GB dimms)
With 2x1GB DIMMs , it works fine, in any DIMM slots.
But when i put in all 4 of them I got Major Freezing problems.
    Memtest86+ works fine.
But in XP it freezez, in Vista it freezes.
Trying to install Vista with 4GB it freezes before the installation program even starts..
    Any helpfull thoughts?

V-ICE, there are at least 3 more people (myself included) who are having this "HT sync flood" error. All of us have K9N motherboards with V1.7 BIOS:
    - K9N SLI Platinum + BIOS 7250v17 (V-ICE)
    - K9N SLI Platinum + BIOS 7250v17 (TomMe)
    - K9N4 Ultra-F + BIOS 7310v17 (zzkey)
    - K9N Platinum + BIOS 7250v17 (Grawp)
I think there is a problem with those BIOS versions. I've had 3 K9N SLI Platinum boards, never had that error before. Only with my latest board + v1.7 BIOS.
Have you had any "overclock failed" messages so far?
