K9n ultra - 2f cpu bios update

I have one of these boards with a dual core AMD 5600xp cpu. At bootup I get a fatal error saying " CMOS checksum bad, Processor of an unknown revision"
Do i need to update the bios? I thinks its version v0565     5 .72. 22. 43. 00
As i have no floppy, I will have to install one but will i be able to update the bios even though the cpu isnt recognised? ie boot up from the A drive even though I cant enter the bios, due to the CPU?
Thanks
I have 1G pc6400 ram (which is recognised)
BFG 7300gs gfx
600 watt psu
400 GB hdd

  • MSI DKA790GX Platinum and AM3 CPU - BIOS Update

    Hi,
I am going to upgrade my current computer from an older AMD socket 939 setup to an AMD Phenom II based system
I am thinking of the MSI DKA790GX Platinum motherboard and AMD Phenom II X3 720 (Black edition) CPU (AM2+ Motherboard and AM3 CPU), but I need to clear up the BIOS update for AM3 issue before buying the components.
The motherboard advertisement states that the BIOS has to be upgraded to support AM3 CPU
My issue is this: I do not have an AM2/AM2+ CPU, and I am looking to jump right into buying an AM3 CPU - so will the unit power-up/POST with the combination of the newer AM3 CPU and older BIOS to allow me to update the BIOS using either FDD or Bootable USB Pen in a DOS environment?
Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of this? Any help on this would be appreciated
    Thanks

The 1.74 Bios is one I got from MSI tech support.  We're trying to work through a problem with my new board. nothing major, but we're not quite there yet.
I know that Nvidia was The chipset to have for several years, but I think AMD has upset that applecart a bit with the 780 & now 790 chipsets, and with Intel
getting into the chipset game as well, Nvidia could see some rough times ahead.  They may even end up dropping out of the chipset game, since Intel's new CPUs have the memory controller built on die.  Hence, Intel has no real need for NVidia any more, Nvidia may end up just focusing on the video card market, unless?
My board defaults to 800mhz as well and I'm running a 720. You have to keep in mind that they have to make the boards default to the lowest common denominator as not everyone runs 1066 capable memory on their board (even though Manufacturers may spec the memory so). I also have to manually bump up the voltage, as well as timings and ratio for 1066.  But, my Mushkin ram plugged in and booted with no problems, but I did have to bump up the voltage and tighten up the timings even at 800.
Interesting (Abut BIOS version 1.74). I guess it is not yet available for downloads.
So now Intel CPU's have the memory controller on the die (just like AMD). So does this prove as an advantageous concept? I expect Intel to implement better memory management than AMD. AMD drops speed when all 4 memory banks are occupied... what is the use of utilizing max RAM capability if memory controller cannot sustain the max RAM speed?
I may agree with you on the concept that motherboard should support the lowest (RAM) denominator...
However if someone uses lower than 1066 MHz sticks, system should detect accordingly, and when 1066 sticks are used, auto-detect as 1066... I still do not see the issue here. On former nVidia based boards like my MSI K9A Platinum SLI (with an AMD X2 CPU), 800 MHz modules are detected as 800 on auto, no need to manually tweak anything in BIOS. I still have to see an nVidia EPP profile enabled board which is claimed to auto detect 1066 MHz capable memory sticks by default.
On my system it is also the same... I have to up the RAM voltage to 2.2V (otherwise system is not stable), as well as setting up the timings and of course the RAM/FSB speed ratio to 1:2.66.
I am running currently 4 chips of OCZ platinum 2 GHZ (for a total of 8 GB RAM, for 64 bit Vista and Linux). Also with mine (as we know Phenom II does not support 4 sticks of 1066 MHz) it drops to 800 MHz. As well as, I needed to bump the voltage to 2.2 V... otherwise in the middle of operation, system reboots. We know what this is about, dont we ?

  • K9N Ultra BIOS update

Hi. I have K9N Ultra. I had Sempron 2800+ installed on it, and everything worked fine. Now I'd like to install Athlon64 X2 5600. BIOS POST said that it doesn't know processor's revision and won't work at all. I downloaded new BIOS from http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=253 (7250v3A.zip). Unpacked and copied Afud408.exe and A7250NMS.3A0 to disk C:\. Then I booted from win98 boot floppy and did the following actions:
    > c:\
    > Afud408.exe A7250NMS.3A0
BIOS update was successful, I turned off the computer, cleared CMOS with SW2 button and installed new Athlon64 X2 5600 CPU. Then I booted again.
The problem is that my system works unstable now. It may suddenly turn off in Windows when I play games. In Linux it may suddenly turn off when I use microphone in Skype.
Motherboard's version as it written on the board between PCI slots: MS-7250 Ver: 2.1.
    How to fix it? Thanks!

Reseat the CPU and make sure CPU heatsink is mounted properly and no overheating issue occur.
It is not overheated, because my system turns off immediately after test call in Skype (in Debian Linux). I can compile software for hours, using 100% of both CPU cores, and my system works stable, so I can conclude that it is not overheated.
    I have 2x1GB Kingston DDR2-800, GeForce 7600GS PCI-E, 2x250 GB SATA Seagate drives, Athlon 64 X2 5600 (AM2).

  • Bios updates for 845 Ultra?

Is anyone aware of any pending bios updates for this motherboard or has it been put out to pasture ?  I'd still like to see a fix for the warm restart problem when overclocking in addition to the 1.65 core voltage limitation.  Before anyone says that those won't be fixed - I can wish, can't I?

I have the 845 Ultra-ARU and I am running my 1.8A at 2.52 GHz with a voltage of 1.71 actual applied volts.  This system is rock stable with a fsb of 140.  I have done the VID-pin mod, however.  I too would also like to see a BIOS update for a couple of reasons.
    1)  According to the temperatures being reported by PC Alert III, my BIOS, and MBM5, my CPU idles at 50 C and goes up to 67-68 C under a full Prime95 load.  The reason why I think this is faulty is because I have run my computer with the side panel off, and there is no difference in the CPU or system temperature.  Also, when running the Prime95 test, I've put my hand right on the heatsink and it is BARELY warm.  The heatsink is making solid contact with the CPU, so if the CPU was actually at 68 degrees C, the heatsink too would be incredibly warm.  My own hand tells me that it cannot be 152 degrees Fahrenheit.
    2)  THE MEMORY RATIOS ARE GARBAGE!!!!!  I've got a 2.52 GHz CPU that is suffering a bottleneck from the measly 2.0 GB/s that my RAM is able to feed it.  Every other motherboard I've ever seen gives you the options of a couple different memory ratios.  I would at least like the option to run my memory at a different speed than my fsb.  Perhaps a 3:4 ratio could be done?  Just something so that I can try and get a little more bandwidth out of my RAM.  I know that the board is only designed to support PC1600 and PC2100 DDR RAM, but how could it hurt to give the option to support PC2400 or PC2700, maybe even PC3200 DDR RAM?  Plenty of other 845 chipset based boards can do that.  (Not officially, but through a variety of memory ratios.)  I'm just tired of not being able to do anything with my memory.

    thank you for your repley
i am very much in favor of stability ,reliability and performance but the fact remains
that Toshiba Techs have made a conscious  and willfull decision to under clock the laptop and make no
mention that the bios updates may result in processing reduction, as for the call to tech support it was fruitless
because they are clueless as to why such things happen (Corporate Denial).
In Canada there were two very close speced laptops
one for 899.00 CAD with 1.9 GHz CPU
and the one I bought 2 months ago 1149.00 CAD 2.0 GHz
To me this looks like Toshiba overclocking the laptop to get out the retail door.
its not just affecting me, it affects everyone that buys a Toshiba laptop.
I will not back down on this point. The origional advertised and paid for specs, should
be restored in an upcoming bios update. If not, then it just confirms my original
    findings.
This is refered to as "BAIT and SWITCH" and the practice is illegal in Canada.

You don't need a BIOS update.
When it is stated that a CPU is supported in the motherboard specifications document it means that BIOS support is already present.

  • KT4 Ultra-B BIOS Update problem

Well, I runned Live Update BIOS and found out that I didn't have the newest version. So i downloaded the newest (1.4), and followed the instruction for the installation. After it was installed, every thing seemed okay. Untill I started the PC, then I got an 'error' message:
    CMOS Settings Wrong
    Press F1 to Run SETUP
Press F2 to load default values and continue
I checked the CMOS Settings, nothing I could find was wrong. So everytime I start the PC I have to press F2, or else it won't start, it will just jump back to that message. This is not so much of a problem, but when I have to use the default values from now on it _IS_ a problem, because default FSB is 100MHz, and I loose alot of CPU. I now have AMD Athlon 1500+ 1,35GHz because of that BIOS update. What I really should have is AMD Athlon 2200+ 1,8GHz.
So anyone that could help me with this problem ??

There is a reason why it did not work.
When you buy a board and put a CPU in it, the board may not detect the CPU correctly,
So if your cpu was a 1470Mhz Athlon and the board detected it as 2.2Ghz what would happen?
The CPU would try to run at 2200Mhz and blow up
So manufacturers such as MSI set the CPU FSB to 100Mhz, must modern CPUs run at 166Mhz so by having it at 100Mhz you prevent the board from overclocking the CPU.
Do you see how that is a safety feature?
Now when you flash a BIOS you clear all your settings and the board gets reset to the safety defaults (100Mhz). This also happens when you clear the CMOS using the jumper, thats why it did not work
I assume someone else originally setup the motherboard and CPU settings for you?

  • DC7700 Compac ULTRA SLIM DESKTOP PC BIOS UPDATE

    Hello world
I’m using Windows 7 Ultimate on a DC7700 Ultra-Slim Desktop PC and I’ve been getting these really annoying freezes where the screen goes black for a few seconds then I get an error message “Intel Accelerated Graphics Drivers for Windows Vista stopped responding and has recovered.” Sometimes I get a bluescreen and the PC reboots- mostly when I play a video file or PC game.
I downloaded an updated Intel graphics driver which installed fine and actually boosted performance significantly but the screen flashes persist. After a lot of research I think I need a bios update but I can’t seem to find one for win 7 ultimate. Information on this stuff isn’t always accurate and I don’t want to take any chances with the installation. My current BIOS software is 786E1 v01.09, 1/5/2007 (Q965/Q963 Express Chipset Family) and the updated Intel Graphics Accelerator driver is version 8.15.10.1930, 9/23/3009.
I don’t want to mess with the BIOS so I’m hoping someone can point me to the right download. Also would it be possible to do the upgrade in a Windows environment as opposed to Setup or Command mode? Please help!

Could you please give me the exact product number for your computer?

Well, first off, sorry to inform you, but in case you haven't noticed, the BIOS update does not solve the jumpy touchpad issue.  In my opinion we are going to see some board swaps probably related to both the touchpad and CPU throttling issues, though I hope I am wrong.
Secondly, I haven't really noticed that, but then again, my power consumption has always been pretty spotty from day one.  I'm not sure if it's USB devices to blame or possibly even Google Chrome, but I have been monitoring the possible culprits and haven't really reached any definitive conclusions.
You might try the following from a command prompt:
    powercfg -energy
This will produce a report about power consumption after monitoring your laptop's idling over a 60-second period.

  • Sun Ultra 24 - BIOS Update problem

I have a Sun Ultra 24 where I attempted to update the BIOS to v1.5 using the Sun Tools CD v1.3. After successful install and validation of the BIOS, I am at a POST screen where I have the option to press F1 to load default values or F2 to run setup.
The problem is that my USB keyboards are not being recognized. I have tried all USB ports and two different USB keyboards. The system gives a beep, recognizing that the keyboards are being plugged in and out, and the Caps lock LED is lit for just a second, but after that it is not recognized.
The internal LED BIOS POST code is showing "85", indicating (from the Sun manual): 1. USB final initialization. 2. Switch screen back to text mode.
I have also attempted to remove and replace the BIOS battery.
Any other thoughts as to how I can recover my BIOS or get the system to recognize a USB keyboard? I do not have any PS2 ports on this system.
    Thanks for any assistance.

I posted too soon, I was able to find another way to update the BIOS, and this worked. For some reason, my keyboard would not work earlier to enter the BIOS settings, but I was able to use Ctrl+Home to update the BIOS from my USB flash drive.
Here are the instructions from the Sun 820-2480-11 document:
Corrupted BIOS: System Does Not Perform POST
An interrupted or failed BIOS update, might result in a corrupted BIOS, which could
cause the system to fail POST and not boot. To resolve this, perform the following
    BIOS recovery procedure:
    1. Copy the file /BIOS/BIOSxxx.ROM from the Tools and Drivers DVD to the
root directory of a USB flash drive.
    2. On the flash drive, rename the file BIOSxxx.ROM to AMIBOOT.ROM.
    3. Insert USB flash drive into an available USB port on the workstation.
    4. Power on the workstation, press and hold the Ctrl + Home keys, and watch the
    USB flash drive’s access light.
    5. When the flash drive’s access light starts to blink, release the keys.
    6. Follow the onscreen instructions to recover system BIOS.
This procedure will be added to the Sun Ultra 24 Workstation Service Manual.
