K9N Ultra BIOS update

Hi. I have K9N Ultra. I had Sempron 2800+ installed on it, and everything worked fine. Now I'd like to install Athlon64 X2 5600. BIOS POST said that it doesn't know processor's revision and won't work at all. I downloaded new BIOS from http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=253 (7250v3A.zip). Unpacked and copied Afud408.exe and A7250NMS.3A0 to disk C:\. Then I booted from win98 boot floppy and did the following actions:
> c:\
> Afud408.exe A7250NMS.3A0
BIOS update was successful, I turned off the computer, cleared CMOS with SW2 button and installed new Athlon64 X2 5600 CPU. Then I booted again.
The problem is that my system works unstable now. It may suddenly turn off in Windows when I play games. In Linux it may suddenly turn off when I use microphone in Skype.
Motherboard's version as it written on the board between PCI slots: MS-7250 Ver: 2.1.
How to fix it? Thanks!

Reseat the CPU and make sure CPU heatsink is mounted properly and no overheating issue occur.
It is not overheated, because my system turns off immediately after test call in Skype (in Debian Linux). I can compile software for hours, using 100% of both CPU cores, and my system works stable, so I can conclude that it is not overheated.
I have 2x1GB Kingston DDR2-800, GeForce 7600GS PCI-E, 2x250 GB SATA Seagate drives, Athlon 64 X2 5600 (AM2).

  • MSI K9N SLI/K9N ULTRA bios update

    Hello everyone,
I want to install windows 7 on my Pc but during the installation my PC stucks and do nothing.
I have already tried a lot of things but nothing happened. The same thing again.
Finaly I think that I need to update my BIOS version because I have not do it before.(since 2006 when I bought my PC)
Probably I should do it from a bootable CD because my motherboard can not boot from a usb stick and also I don't have a flopy Drive.
Is there any official tutorial (maybe from MSI) to do it?
Do you have anything else to propose???
    Thank you in advance!!!

  • Bios updates for 845 Ultra?

Is anyone aware of any pending bios updates for this motherboard or has it been put out to pasture ?  I'd still like to see a fix for the warm restart problem when overclocking in addition to the 1.65 core voltage limitation.  Before anyone says that those won't be fixed - I can wish, can't I?

I have the 845 Ultra-ARU and I am running my 1.8A at 2.52 GHz with a voltage of 1.71 actual applied volts.  This system is rock stable with a fsb of 140.  I have done the VID-pin mod, however.  I too would also like to see a BIOS update for a couple of reasons.
    1)  According to the temperatures being reported by PC Alert III, my BIOS, and MBM5, my CPU idles at 50 C and goes up to 67-68 C under a full Prime95 load.  The reason why I think this is faulty is because I have run my computer with the side panel off, and there is no difference in the CPU or system temperature.  Also, when running the Prime95 test, I've put my hand right on the heatsink and it is BARELY warm.  The heatsink is making solid contact with the CPU, so if the CPU was actually at 68 degrees C, the heatsink too would be incredibly warm.  My own hand tells me that it cannot be 152 degrees Fahrenheit.
    2)  THE MEMORY RATIOS ARE GARBAGE!!!!!  I've got a 2.52 GHz CPU that is suffering a bottleneck from the measly 2.0 GB/s that my RAM is able to feed it.  Every other motherboard I've ever seen gives you the options of a couple different memory ratios.  I would at least like the option to run my memory at a different speed than my fsb.  Perhaps a 3:4 ratio could be done?  Just something so that I can try and get a little more bandwidth out of my RAM.  I know that the board is only designed to support PC1600 and PC2100 DDR RAM, but how could it hurt to give the option to support PC2400 or PC2700, maybe even PC3200 DDR RAM?  Plenty of other 845 chipset based boards can do that.  (Not officially, but through a variety of memory ratios.)  I'm just tired of not being able to do anything with my memory.

  • DC7700 Compac ULTRA SLIM DESKTOP PC BIOS UPDATE

    Hello world
I’m using Windows 7 Ultimate on a DC7700 Ultra-Slim Desktop PC and I’ve been getting these really annoying freezes where the screen goes black for a few seconds then I get an error message “Intel Accelerated Graphics Drivers for Windows Vista stopped responding and has recovered.” Sometimes I get a bluescreen and the PC reboots- mostly when I play a video file or PC game.
I downloaded an updated Intel graphics driver which installed fine and actually boosted performance significantly but the screen flashes persist. After a lot of research I think I need a bios update but I can’t seem to find one for win 7 ultimate. Information on this stuff isn’t always accurate and I don’t want to take any chances with the installation. My current BIOS software is 786E1 v01.09, 1/5/2007 (Q965/Q963 Express Chipset Family) and the updated Intel Graphics Accelerator driver is version 8.15.10.1930, 9/23/3009.
I don’t want to mess with the BIOS so I’m hoping someone can point me to the right download. Also would it be possible to do the upgrade in a Windows environment as opposed to Setup or Command mode? Please help!

Could you please give me the exact product number for your computer?

  • Sun Ultra 24 - BIOS Update problem

I have a Sun Ultra 24 where I attempted to update the BIOS to v1.5 using the Sun Tools CD v1.3. After successful install and validation of the BIOS, I am at a POST screen where I have the option to press F1 to load default values or F2 to run setup.
The problem is that my USB keyboards are not being recognized. I have tried all USB ports and two different USB keyboards. The system gives a beep, recognizing that the keyboards are being plugged in and out, and the Caps lock LED is lit for just a second, but after that it is not recognized.
The internal LED BIOS POST code is showing "85", indicating (from the Sun manual): 1. USB final initialization. 2. Switch screen back to text mode.
I have also attempted to remove and replace the BIOS battery.
Any other thoughts as to how I can recover my BIOS or get the system to recognize a USB keyboard? I do not have any PS2 ports on this system.
    Thanks for any assistance.

I posted too soon, I was able to find another way to update the BIOS, and this worked. For some reason, my keyboard would not work earlier to enter the BIOS settings, but I was able to use Ctrl+Home to update the BIOS from my USB flash drive.
Here are the instructions from the Sun 820-2480-11 document:
Corrupted BIOS: System Does Not Perform POST
An interrupted or failed BIOS update, might result in a corrupted BIOS, which could
cause the system to fail POST and not boot. To resolve this, perform the following
    BIOS recovery procedure:
    1. Copy the file /BIOS/BIOSxxx.ROM from the Tools and Drivers DVD to the
root directory of a USB flash drive.
    2. On the flash drive, rename the file BIOSxxx.ROM to AMIBOOT.ROM.
    3. Insert USB flash drive into an available USB port on the workstation.
    4. Power on the workstation, press and hold the Ctrl + Home keys, and watch the
    USB flash drive’s access light.
    5. When the flash drive’s access light starts to blink, release the keys.
    6. Follow the onscreen instructions to recover system BIOS.
This procedure will be added to the Sun Ultra 24 Workstation Service Manual.

  • BIOS Update HP DC 7900 ultra slim PC from 1.08 to an higher version - ERROR

Hello,i'm trying to process an BIOS Update from Version 1.08 to a newer Version. Therefore i've checked many BIOS files you are providing. Even the BIOS file of 1.09 verion. It will not work. Please find attached the response of the Update process:  Trying to flash via BIOS (F10 function) from USB stick or CD:Copying of BIOS file = 100%flashing of BIOS = 104% and nothing else will change  Trying to flash via DOS Boot Stick and DOS Flash Tool:Copying of BIOS file = 100%flashing of BIOS = the percent counter will increase and NEVER stop (for example it reaches 389% and so on....)  Trying to flas via Windows software:The process will run until 100% and than nothing happens. It seems that the program will freeze (program will not response anymore).  Can you please try to help me to update my BIOS version? I need the update because Version 1.22 seems to have an update of the grafic component which i need. Thank you very much! • KT4 Ultra-B BIOS Update problem

Well, I runned Live Update BIOS and found out that I didn't have the newest version. So i downloaded the newest (1.4), and followed the instruction for the installation. After it was installed, every thing seemed okay. Untill I started the PC, then I got an 'error' message:
    CMOS Settings Wrong
    Press F1 to Run SETUP
Press F2 to load default values and continue
I checked the CMOS Settings, nothing I could find was wrong. So everytime I start the PC I have to press F2, or else it won't start, it will just jump back to that message. This is not so much of a problem, but when I have to use the default values from now on it _IS_ a problem, because default FSB is 100MHz, and I loose alot of CPU. I now have AMD Athlon 1500+ 1,35GHz because of that BIOS update. What I really should have is AMD Athlon 2200+ 1,8GHz.
So anyone that could help me with this problem ??

There is a reason why it did not work.
When you buy a board and put a CPU in it, the board may not detect the CPU correctly,
So if your cpu was a 1470Mhz Athlon and the board detected it as 2.2Ghz what would happen?
The CPU would try to run at 2200Mhz and blow up
So manufacturers such as MSI set the CPU FSB to 100Mhz, must modern CPUs run at 166Mhz so by having it at 100Mhz you prevent the board from overclocking the CPU.
Do you see how that is a safety feature?
Now when you flash a BIOS you clear all your settings and the board gets reset to the safety defaults (100Mhz). This also happens when you clear the CMOS using the jumper, thats why it did not work
I assume someone else originally setup the motherboard and CPU settings for you?

  • Monitor doesnt wake up when booting first time, have to restart - k9n ultra-2f

So, I have few problems. The main problem is in da topic:
I bought an used computer about two weeks ago. I installed windows and all drivers etc.
With the old bios (cant remember what version) all was okay except always in boot an error message was shown that said something that the proseccor could not be recognised but the processor was still shown right in My Computer.. :s
Because of that error message i decided to update bios. I updated it throught live update 3 to v.3.6 and now i dont get the processor error message but the monitor doesnt wake up in the boot.. I have to press reset button and then when the monitor wakes up there comes an error message what says something like "Warning!!! The previous performance of overclocking is failed, and the system is restored to the defauls settings". Then I press any key and windows boots normally.
I reupdated v.3.6 bios today manually from floppydisk but the problem didnt go anywhere.
I have searched this forum but cant find same kind of problem posted.
Can somebody please help me with this and tell what could be the problem?
Also when booting second time so that the monitor wakes up, i get four alert sounds.. What could those mean?
My computer is pretty powerful (amd athlon 64 5600+ x2, club3d gf 7950gt, 2gb 533mhz..) It should be very smooth and fast but it often appears slowliness and ..how can i say it.. temporary tilting? :p And the 3dmark03 benchmark gives me 19465 points, it should be giving much more. The computer is clean, no viruses or adware. What could cause this?
Sorry for the messy message and bad english and im not really good at computers

    Thanks for the reply.
I didnt have this issue before updating BIOS..
And i didnt find jbat1 from my k9n ultra-2f. I didnt even find it from the mb manual. Theres only a Clear CMOS Button: SW2. I pushed it few times and then i rebooted my computer. At the first time the monitor woke up instantly and i was like wohooooo but then i shut down the computer and booted it again.. The monitor didnt wake up before pressing the reset button, the same problem was back.
I think that the SW2 button reset the bios settings like the jbat1 would do, because i had disabled the big logo at the boot and after pressing SW2 the logo was back.
Then i set the memory vcore to 2.0V but it didnt help. Infact i think the computer had come a bit more slowly.. :s I think it may be the RAM what makes my comp so slow... dunno.

  • K9N Ultra wont boot up anymore

    Hi, 1st time poster here.
I have about 2 years old "K9N Ultra - 2F v. 2.1" non-SLi MB, wich just wont boot up anymore. I have readed the post about the same MB having some condensator problems, the sticky considerring it, and found that my MB should have the same issues as spoken there (S/N 601-7250-050Kxxxx....)
But the problem at hand isn't about burning CD's/DVD's nor LAN or anything. I was gaming few days back and my PC and started to have FPS drops so i decided to boot it up, the problem consisted after boot so decided to check up temps and stuff, everything was ok. After booting up PC few times again the computer just didn't start up at all any more. It jams to the point where MB should give the small *beep* on boot and GPU should start sending info to screen. (Similiar to when you oc'd your PC too much and it wont boot up)
So, i zeroed my bios with the button, and just to make sure took of bios battery for few mins and tried again, and the problem consists. I also tried with another (working) PSU & GPU but got no help from it.
    The rig consists of:
    MB: K9N Ultra - 2F v. 2.1 non-SLi
Proc: AMD 2x 64 bulk processor, cant remember model no.
    Mem: 2x 512MB Buffalo 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
GPU: nVidia 7600 GT 256Mb (Also tested with nVidia 8800GTS 640MB)
Any help given would be preciated, thank you.

    Thanks for the update!
The processor model per se should be no problem for your system. Image getting poor after a long while, well, sure it can be a graphics card problem but that should show itself immediately I think. Are you allowed to borrow your friend's PSU? Perhaps you have already?
Like said earlier i have 550W PSU on main PC and i tried to boot up with it without any results, so lack of power shouldn't be problem.
And for that color mixing problem, it starts out right at the point when i boot up. Its kinda hard to explain so i tooked few pics from what happens when i boot that PC up, here it goes:
    Quote
Ok, so 1st off when i hit power button it gives post screen:
    Quote
2:nd pic, just before that "Windows XP loading" -screen blinks up:
    Quote
.... and theres the load up screen
    Quote
windows boots up, prompts admin pass and goes to desktop, everything ok (even colors)
    Quote
Havent done anything with PC but after like 1-2mins of idle in desktop; screen gives 1-2 secs blink of this:
After that last pic the screen goes black it doesnt turn off or go to power saving mode, just stays on with nothing on it. Waited for 5-10 mins and when nothing happened I rebooted pc and same cycle goes around again.
That windows is fresh format & install i made today and all i have installed on it are latest MSI drivers (chipset, real audio, lan) wich i downloaded today from global.msi.eu.
I also tried to install latest nvidia drivers for that 7600 but it hangs on install just like mentioned above.
ps. sry for posting pics instead of url's, but i think you get the whole picture easier this way.
